As best to my knowledge Tx3 mini or Tx3 can still support Official Apkpure UstoGoal app. Do confirm this with sellers if their stocks comply. If they avoid answering or don't know, then better take your business elsewhere if the app is a priority.

Other wise there is a very active modder who has released at least 3 Mod apks of the latest version. Sadly the modder's sharing group has gone underground due to multiples copyright infringement notices on various platforms. If you search long and hard, you may find it. If I am not mistaken, the mod apk will work as it has been extensively tested on Amlogic devices, even on Mecool KM2 and KM6 with ATV remote.

Sadly though, the advice given by the modder is to avoid Allwinner boxes except for one Tx6.

If Tx6 or Tx6S is your consideration, then I advise against Tx6S. Tx6s is actually an inferior model to Tx6. S - just meaning SLIM while others thought it is SPECIAL. Although it has Android 10, I find its wifi suspect albeit both equally powerful. Both though is stil operates at a very high temperature.

Is it now "officially acknowledged" as the best and most compatible box for AsterosakGo app?

If anyone looking specifically for Tx3 or Tx3mini, just do a search for Tx6 in Shopee or Lazada and private message the Tx6 big sellers about Tx3 availability while they still have stock. Read further below for recommended local and overseas sellers. Given the Tx3 search has been blocked, it is only a matter of time before sellers stop importing or re-stock this box.

It is my opinion recent changes to a more secured Astrogo login along with this webview changes is to counter illegal account, rather than to hamper tvbox usage with Astrogo. Just my 2 cents.

As for playtv@unifi, Tx3 mini also works well with it provided Root Switch is closed. My comments below :-

Tx3 mini has upgraded 2 times since my last edit on the 17th August. Tx3 mini has upgraded to Android 8 and even comes with bluetooth and 5GHz wifi on some variations.

Seems recently Tx3 model itself, has a major upgrade to S905X3 SOC, from its older S905W. The new Tx3 S905X3 model Antutu benchmark is very impressive. Upwards of 70k according to others.

Regardless of old or new Tx3, they are still the best value box for Astro GO 2.194.2/AC19.4.2/3c4f19c ( Released 2019-12-13) in HD quality. The box comes with Root Switch to open or close root access with ease which is required for Astro Go to work. Tx3 Mini Android 8 or Tx3 S905X3 Android 9 would be fine. But to be on the safe side, do ask sellers if their Tx3 Mini Android 8 is updated with Root Open /Close Setting option as explained back in the 17 August amendment of this post.

Tx3 still remains the best value box to run the new Astro Go new app v2.192.5/AC/9.2.5.
However, do take note that only Tx3 mini Android 7.1.2 is suitable at the moment.
Most of the new batch of stocks are Tx3 Mini Android 8.1 with Alice UX which is not suitable.

If you do buy from this seller or any other seller, please make sure you are getting Android 7.1.2 and suitable to run Astro Go Version 8.2.6 (modded) or Astro Go v2.192.5.
Ask the seller specifically what Android Version you are getting, even though the Description says it is Android 7. OEM manufacturers has released Android 8 Tx3 mini which is not suitable for Astro Go or Unifi Play TV at the time of this post. It seems they are working on this issue.

This box has been around for a few years.
I believe there are a few manufacturers manufacturing the same design.
What is different is merely the branding on the box.

I think even the kernel and rom is the same for all the different manufacturers (I might be wrong)

Because it has been so long, its hardware and software is pretty stable. Not much problem of crash or brick.

Albeit, 1GB is not recommended to get unless you know what apps you want to install. And Generally recommended not more than a handful of extra apps on top of the already built in Android 7.1. The android OS plus all the google play/services stuff.. can take up to a big chunk out of the 1GB ram.

Mostly recommend 2GB ram, as it should be sufficient for most casual users.

Generally, the hardcore experts now play with 3GB or 4GB ram boxes.

However with that being said, the TX3 is the best affordable ENTRY-LEVEL box for new enthusiast in to this field. It can handle a lot and perform admirably for the low price.

That is why you see lots of "a-hem"sellers, sell their stuff with this box.

Not just this box.. most of the other boxes (even latest models) suffer internet speed degradation from 2.4G wifi performance.

5G is always recommended, but 5G is best when the router is in the same room.
But if the router in the same room, might as well just connect Ethernet LAN cable...lol

If Wifi Router is far or in another room.. 2.4G wifi is the better option in most cases, unless your house is surrounded with a lot of neighbours' wifi routers also on 2.4G. Then guarantee, got problem.. only Channel 1,6,11 on the band spectrum does not interfere with each other. no matter which channel you set, you are guaranteed to have a clash with neighbours wifi. Thus you won't get your full internet speed.

As said by mych, best to connect a LAN Cable.

FOUR months ago, I was a noob in this field. Back then, been reading a lot in here of recommendation getting RM300-600 branded boxes.
I only wanted to to run Astro-On-the Go and Unifi Play TV, anything else is bonus. Jargons such as side loading, root, set orientation app,TWRP, recovery mode, etc etc was getting to my head.

Instead of asking for help in here, I jump right in and ask online sellers instead.
Mostly I only asks two Questions :-
a) Can the box run Astro-On-the GO and Unifi Play TV
b) What form of after sales support can I get.

I ended buying a Tx3 mini for only RM118 and other essential accessories, and met probably the BEST SELLER IN SHOPEE.
Technically sound, Honest and patient seller. Patient in answering all my doubts of android boxes. Came to a point, I was embarrassed to ask more questions. I have bought more expensive stuff and never ask that many questions before putting down payment.
Most importantly, a dedicated seller who responds to my queries with diligence and honesty up until late in the night. By far the most impressive seller who not only packs the box in a BIG AIR PACK bubble before delivery, but also provided SUPERB after sales service, with tips, help and apps to get me going.

Four months later, every day running 10 hours on average, the Tx3 mini is still going strong.
I have installed all imaginable streaming apps available free online, and some from the seller, the box performs well.
Yes there were crashes every now and then, but I felt I installed way too many apps. I monitored the memory, and removed unused apps taking up RAM memory. I have not even had to do any factory rest till today.


Get the 2 GB version as mentioned above. It is a must, if you want to install the freely available apps given.
Even though I don't have any issues with wifi in my surroundings, I still connect a LAN cable to the wifi router to make sure any problem arises is not due to the internet fault or wifi. Touch wood, no connection issues till today.

My only hesitation at first was why the seller doesn't pre-install apps like others sellers do.
The reason was of Legal issues promoting terms like Pre-install, Apps, Kodi in the description, as that is barred in US and EU.

But I felt it is a good thing, as I play with a bare bones box and learn my way around it. Instead of being populated with mass amount of apps and when things go wrong, I dunno where to start.

In fact, android boxes is no different to Android Mobile phones. If you use ES Explorer in your android phones, there shouldn't be any problem navigating any android box. For those who don't, then a handy USB drive is required to copy files and apps over to the box. It is not rocket science to install apps that are not available from Google Play Store. The seller will guide you step by step.

Google Play Store works perfectly but I suggest using a different Google account for the box for security reasons if you intend to try out all types of apps.


Overall, well worth the RM118 I spent. A great performing box for my needs, and an enjoyable experience buying from Shopee with the Shopee Chat.

Indeed, 4 months ago before meeting the seller, I am of the understanding of the need to close root access via some highly technical procedure to run Unify and AstroGo. When I received the box I found this setting. But that is only one half of the solution, the other half would require help from the seller.

To permanently Unroot the Tx3 Mini box, I have no idea how it is done. I read about it, but don't dare to do it. It involves editing a file and deleting some bin files.

Another method of unrooting, is to install one particular app from Playstore to a close root,I think SU or SUperSU, but that will brick the Tx3 box.

The usual recommended method for ALL BOXES is to mod the box with TWRP recovery, reroot using MagisK to hide the root access from whatever apps you wish. As to the step by step process, I have not done it. I heard others say it is quite easy. But there is always a risk of brick if we do it wrongly.

Instead of taking the risk, I stick with just changing the setting which is available in the custom side bar of the Tx3 Mini.

Yeah, that is why I mentioned closing the root is only part of the solution.
I think the proper hardware or correct rom/kernel is also required for it to work along with mod apks.
I don't think all Tx3 mini are build the same.

I read there are Tanix branded tx3, original OEM hardware tx3, there are also unofficial hardware copies of tx3 manufacturers, and some even sells refurbished boxes (dunno what it is meaning of refurbished??).

But I got Astro and Unify working using the tx3 mini I bought from the seller mentioned in my earlier post.

Let me get this straight first, I am just an end-user like many in here. I could feel your frustrations of trying to get your Tx3 Mini to run AstroGo. I consider myself extremely lucky to have bought my Tx3 mini from THIS SELLER [click here], and not have to go through the experience you went through. Albeit I was prepared to experiment in case it didn't work, if too bad - I just take the RM118 as a total loss and get another box. Alas, my Tx3 only needed a setting change and a modded apk to work. I sincerely do not if the seller has made any modifications prior delivery and didn't tell me about it.

For your case, I would advise you to go straight back to your seller and ask for guidance. However I sincerely doubt they even know or have the expertise. Even if they know, a lot of them I notice would not divulge these trade secrets. I can understand that this is their rice and bowl and very hesitant to tell. In the past 4 months, I have met with people like you asking for help in facebook groups. There are online sellers that bluntly tell them, to google about it and the sellers are hesitant to spell it out step by step.

At the very best, they will give some very vague hints, or general process. When asks for more info, they won't respond anymore.

I can tell you everything here of what I do know.

There are essentially 2 other ways apart from the one I have performed that uses mod APK.
1) I am sure you have read apps.atvxperience.com. In there there is some guide on how to install TWRP and reroot with MagisK to hide root from any apps you want.

2)Unroot the box and thus can use official app.
Method a) Edit build prop. Then delete system file
Method b) Edit build prop. Use SuperSU(V2.xx)

there are other mothods as you mentioned, app exposed n rootcloak. Sometimes reported works, others don't.
Others even reported using the SuperSU and tap full unroot works, but again it only works when the proper hardware, kernel and SuperSU version is correctly employed. Other wise soft brick will happen whereby the box cannot boot up.

Google about it, or consult your supplier.
Other wise just get another cheap box that runs AstroGo and Unifi and nothing else.

for its price of rm111, it is a no brainer, best value for money for simple use.

amlogic s905w, 2+16gb, android 7.1.2, build dated 2018.12.29.

non-gigabit rj45, 2.4ghz only, works good even for 50ft.

comes with renamed kodi17.6.

has (simple) native video player app.

does 1080p, 4k, hdr, 10bit rips quite well.

can do dd, dd+, dts playback.

not smooth for full 1080p/2160p bdmv, struggles with ddtruehd, dtshdma audio.

has auto framerate switching feature but does not work very well.

can't do astrogo; closing root does not help.

other simple popular apps - rss, adrama, youtube, etc., no problem.

gets warm but not hot.

tiny in size - smaller than a burger, can fit into yr pocket.


i suppose tanix tx5 max with s905x2/android 8.1 would be a lot more powerful, more suitable for bigger tasks.

He's selling H model. Most of us here are using A model which have problem using Astro Go.

i wud think if enough work done on it... root/unroot, hide, etc... it can work as reported by many... seller will charge more, i suppose.

still, there are boxes with original firmware ready to install astrogo/olaytv direct from playstore, will work just like that, no hassle.

astrogo and playtv needs same requirements

for any device, if one works, the other will; if one doesn't work the other will not.

I have used the modded apk. It can login and but most channel are not watchable.

I tried and installed Magisk to hide root and installed the official apk. The outcome is the same.

Precisely. I too have tried various firmware from original, Alice to ATV. All turned out to be the same. So when some user reported it's working I'm baffled. Model H is the explanation I guess.

original will not work... alice is tanix own firmware/UI with ATV skin but is not ATV.

if full ATV, it should work - seen in smart tv androidTV's (the sharp's and sony's), mibox s, shield.

I was in disbelieve, this seller in China can have such intricate knowledge of not only the box but also the apps Malaysian use. Dunno if he is a Malaysian who is posted there in Shenzen. Wrote Malay to him, and no reply... kekeke :-)

I told him, if I am ever going to buy another box, I will come looking for him.
Primarily because Electronic Components in China have different grades.
Same as fake imitation goods. Good quality AAA, and and others not so good.
If a seller doesn't know how to differentiate Good boxes from reputable manufacturers and unreliable boxes from unknown backyard company, then the losers will be the eventual buyers.

These boxes, better off buying from a specialist (be it local or overseas) who trades solely in this field.
My box been running daily for more than 4 months, at least 10 hours daily. It is still going strong, installing, uninstalling new apps.

My bro was impressed and thought why not mod the box into the his MPV to provide in-car entertainment as the car has DC-AC Converter installed.... I said these boxes are not designed to last long under the hot sun. He said it should be fine hidden under the car seat.... keke ke :-)

I have successfully solved the problem by flashing back to the old firmware. Astro Go finally playing good.

So it is not a matter of Hardware Model A or H. It is the correct firmware that is crucial?

Yes. The problem is the old interface is such a turnoff. You need to revert back to the original firmware back from 2 years ago.

I did a few flashing on other newer firmware and none of it is working. So to use Astro Go must flash back to the old firmware.

No idea about unifiplay as I'm not using.

alice ui (quite pretty); comes with tv center (kodi 18.0), u can remove, DIY 18.1.

does dd, dd+, dts 5.1; 4k hdr, 10 bit - pretty smooth, no judders despite no auto framerate switching.

netflix in SD; can't do astrogo; all other common apps OK.

box is a bit thicker than tx3 mini but is still smaller than a burger.

stays cool , no need fan or whatever.

I dunno why the seller would tell you that.
Maybe AstroGo ver 8.2.6 (latest) has stability problems with Android 7.1.2 on Tx3 mini! I am aware there were some problems with 8.2.6 in the initial release some weeks back as reported by a few forumers in other threads.

I was given a mod Aotg 8.2.4 by the seller 4 months ago, and it works perfectly to my needs.
The mod version bypass the jailbroken notice, and Tx3 mini>setting>close root will allow the channels to stream instead of red turning circle. I didn't see any need to upgrade to 8.2.6 when 8.2.4 is working well.

Upon reading your comment, I search for latest Mod AoTG v 8.2.6. Found two mod apks. Installed them on my Tx3 Mini.
Works perfectly on my Tx3 Mini, no difference with v8.2.4. Seems more stable and faster as well.

I sincerely dunno why the seller would tell you the Tx3 Mini CURRENTLY cannot do AoTG. Maybe they haven't got the mod apk yet. I downloaded mine from Telegram groups that is freely available to public.

But that is one of the reason why I like the seller. A seller with integrity and honest with their replies.
You don't get comments such as :-

"..great seller.."
"..responsible seller.."
".. very responsive seller.."
"... second purchase for family..."
"...best packaging ever..."

if there is even a hint of doubt of the seller's integrity.

Just from the Air Pak packaging alone, tells me the seller intends to make sure they want deliver the best they could and items reach customers safely.

They seem to try to reply to all questions posted to them. And they would spend a lot of effort to explain, offer advise and supply information required for the products.

Me too using the same 8.2.4 mod version with close root access on my Tanix TX92. It work perfectly too! But my friend with other rooted box, cannot stream channels. Keep loading. Maybe the "super use-close root access" did help much.

yes, the seller did tell me that, and i'm ok with it.

becos i already have other devices that can run astrogo, no need for this one.

explanation is probably the firmware change.

tx3 mini is a high value box, no doubt.

i also bought tx5 max, which is a lot more powerful - s905x2, 4+32gb, gigabit ethernet, ac wifi.

both are working the way i want them to do.

the only thing missing is auto framerate switching and hd audio (dtshdma, ddtruehd, dtsx, atmos).

for that, i hv yet another box.

ok, out of curiosity, i just tried a modified 8.2.4 apk.

yep, if u close root in superuser, it works.

i had previously tried official 8.2.6, doesn't work.

so, the modified version does something, i guess.


this means the tanix tx3 mini at rm118 is probably the cheapest box available that can run astrogo!

And the seller I mentioned is not selling Tanix brand of Tx3, but OEM Tx3, or what the industry calls as OTT boxes.
However, unlike others who only provides 3 months or 6 months warranty period, this seller's product has 1 year warranty and every box comes with serial number label.

A way to differentiate Tanix Tx3 and Tx3, is the word Tanix on the box.

Tanix has their own Home Launcher page design they called Alice UI. It is just a fancy lean back launcher like Nova Launcher etc...
Tx3 has a more traditional home launcher, but more importantly it has a "Pull down status bar", and "Pull up navigation bar" if a mouse or airmouse or wireless keyboard with touchpad is used.

From my understanding, Tx3 can be flash with other ROMS, including Tanix Alice UI or Android TV experience ROM. As posted earlier, I too agree all the hardware design of Tx3 is the same only difference is the ROM and kernel different manufacturer install into the box.

Don't think there is any Intellectual Property Rights to this Tx3 boxes and definitely not enforced in China. So no reason to reinvent the wheel, might as well just copy the hardware blueprint and mass manufacture from different manufacturer. That is when quality of the electronic components come to question.
If the box sellers cannot differentiate AAA grade boxes from lower grade boxes, the eventual losers will be overseas buyers. That is why it is critical to buy these from Specialist Box sellers be it local or overseas. Don't always go for the cheapest of the cheapest, always check the previous customers comments and seller product history.

but really, 1+8gb leaves no room for anything else after a few simple apps.
2+16 wud be minimum for present use, imo.
3 or 4+32 is ideal to cater for a lot more apps and contingencies.
bigger storage bodes well for those wanting to use kodi quasar.

for potential buyers of Tanix:

Tanix TX3 Mini has this "superuser" close or open root option in android settings, which is something i do not see in other boxes.
Once root closed, Astrogo go modified and Unifi Playtv official will work.
i suppose it is built in the s905w soc - a simple and useful feature.

Tanix TX5 Max uses s905x2 chipset, doesn't have that superuser option.
BUT, can easily install SuperSU app from playstore, unroot, restart - that's all.
Then, Astrogo modified and Unifi Playtv official will work.
Done that, all good.

So strange. my TX92 s912 box have the super user function too.
I thought TX5 Max will have too
I thought all Tanix box will have it.
So I thought my next box will be targeted on Tanix new box too

i think that is due to the various types of chipsets and soc they use... amlogic s905w, s912, s905x2, allwinner, rockchip...

which is why it is good to have a thread for each brand so that buyers can get specific info about the model they buy.

after 2 weeks, i have to say i am very pleased with tx3 min and tx5 max.

i did not go for tx6 becos of allwinner chipset which is said to heat up bad...?

Hi bro, how's the 2.5Ghz WIFI signal strength for the TX3 MINI? Planning to get one connected via WIFI.

tx3 mini can only run on 2.4ghz, quite alright for say max 50ft.

if u need higher speed, tx5 max on 5ghz is much stronger.

I'm good with this box. Just that the interface is so old school. Can't do Alice nor ATV cos need to use Astro Go.

And the IR remote sucks. Need to be very close.

true... but overall, not too shabby for rm118!

tx5max is a lot better in every aspect but cost double that of tx3mini.

Yep.. I'm currently having Unifi turbo 300Mbps with Tenda AC18 router. Pulled the trigger last night to get the TX3 mini given that AOTG & unifi PLAYTV apk able to install on it.

u r using sharp ue630x, r u not?

the tv can already do the 2 apps... will be bit of a redundant.

or for another tv?

Yeah i hv the sharp ue630x with Astro on it thus bought this box for another TV in my room.

For astrogo and playtv, tx3mini at such a price will be perfect.

Of course, u can install other apps too.

Maybe your battery is really weak.
I remember the Tx3 mini remote can operate well even at 15 ft away even with used AAA batteries.
Activated its mouse pointer function and moving around with no visible lag when pressing the direction/navigation button on the Tx3 remote.

Definitely no complains from me of the remote. I even got an extra remote for my parents. One for father, one for mother, ha ha ha.. no fighting.

Anyone try iflix on this box? When putting the player full screen, it always hang

Just checking, Are u updated to the latest version? They change the interface in the latest version. I can confirmed its not connection, coz when the player is minimized, it plays fine, but when maximize it then the picture hang, audio plays like normal.

After that I install the old version and everything is fine..

my unit is new... firmware 20181229.

so far, all is working gud - astrogo, unifi playtv, iflix, kodi +++...

playtv works only on wifi.

u gotta turn on wifi... if not, u get "temp unavailable" msg.

Hi, I've just bought the tx3 2gb/16gb box from the shopee ling lang seller. I've go to superuser and closed the root but when loading it still says cannot run on this device.. Pls advise

are u using a modified apk?

Yes, I've try from apk mirror, aptoide.. Cos when I try download from Google play store it also says my box not supported.. Is there anywhere I can get the astro go running?
