i7-8750H? If yes then you must undervolt since the chip itself runs hot
*
Yea, and I already undervolt around -100mA. Any ideas to reduce the temp?

1. Repaste - but I think it has Kryonaut applied out of the box
2. Lift up the back of the laptop by a bit (don't block the intakes)
3. Try lower down PL1 limit (eg 45W, original is 70W), maybe reduce all core clock speed (eg 3.6GHz instead of 3.9)

Hi, I found that my Onyx runs hot while gaming
Is it considered as normal as the CPU temperature goes to nearly 90ish or more than that while playing dota2? I just bought my Onyx 1month ago.. think that the thermal paste still new and workable.
*
For DotA2, Disable turbo boost then use msi afterburner and set max clock curve to 1.4-1.45ghz. if 1.4 is not providing you with stable FPS while playing at max, increase memory clock to 300-500 where it is stable for your unit.

Some people will say this is bad because boosting is disabled but dota2 doesn't require much CPU to game on anyway. Even at clock non boosted 2.2ghz max it suffice for most non triple A games.

Try it. If on 60fps cap and 1080p, you'll get a steady below 70degrees temp. If you go 100fps or 120+, it may go around 75ish. I can get 60fps consistent on Fortnite at all epic settings with grass disabled, motion blur On.

The above is a quick and lazy solution though. You can do this just by XTU by toggling turbo on and off with a single restart in between. If you wanna go more advanced, use throttlestop then keep turbo boost enabled and modify multipliers for each cores to see where you want the CPU to boost max to (say 3.6ghz max). The temps would be higher indeed and fans will be louder but you'll get more performance out of 8750h.

It's CPU dependent game, higher clock speed does make a difference

I'm eyeing on the new Onyx

with 9750H and 2070 Max-Q.

Not sure if the heat management is alright? For those who has been using this laptop for a year, do you like this notebook?

Any serious unsolved issue?

I would appreciate any realistic comment. Thank you.

No serious issue so far, my only complaint would be the super loud fan noise

How about the keyboard typing experience?

I saw some reviews mentioned that the Keyboard is rather erratic.
Key registered sometimes with a gentle touch and sometimes don't even register after a full touch

Solid feel

The issue you mentioned above is there, but it doesn't happen often. At least from my testing

Nope. Keycap in Selenite is wobblier

Shouldn't be an issue if you used to press key very hard. I type very gentle so that's why I can feel the wobbliness more

Keyboard "issues" used to happen more with the Blue switches and older keycaps, and it's more of the former (registering accidentally with light touches). However, I have NEVER experienced the other "don't even register after a full touch" thing you're describing, with either keyboard configs.

With the newer Brown switches and V2 caps, there's not so much of even the "light touch mis-register" thing anymore anyway, so that's that.

That said, the overly compact layout (thanks to the numpad) does lead to a bit more typing errors to those used to a bit more space between their keys.

Advise you drop by the Illegear showroom to test if possible, because keyboards can be rather subjective really.

So, I had my ONYX sent to the office for BIOS update around 2 months ago which fix the common problem I had before but now, its comes with another problem(s).

1. My ONYX suffers 'windows lag' where when scrolling down the windows, it doesn't respond as fast as it should. This occurs quite common when not charging & when battery percentage is below 60%. Even YT videos need to buffer not because of Internet connection.

2. I noticed that my ONYX has a worse battery life than before. Before, I could run Onenote for around 2.5 - 4 hours. But now, it barely reach 1.2 hours.

Hi Tokio_Hot, I shall trace back your RMA number to review the case report during your previous visit. I've sent you a PM for further communication regarding this smile.gif

Hi pluginbaby, kindly note that Onyx with RTX GPUs are using a different version for the Gaming Center and for your model, the v2.0.1.4 is indeed the latest version for your system (RTX2060) smile.gif

If typing is your main thing vs gaming. Probably you shouldn't be looking at Illgear. However if gaming > typing then yes this laptop is good.

So you'll have to pick one...which is important to you.
