Hi

I am looking at Onyx. Not a very pc savvy guy. I wanted to know GTX1060 worth the money or not? Or better invest the money for better RAM and Processor for about the same money.

I dont really gaming. Only play games like DOTA2 and CS once awhile. Mostly play Chinese mobile rpg games using 3rd party software like bluestack. I'm considering illegear as I got bored with all those ultrabook from other makers. They are laggy when using bluestack. Normally i will use for 3-4 years only changed.

Or with my low requirement, i just get the most basic version of onyx and it will do me good for the next few years?

One more question, how long the battery last for video playing? I travel a lot by plane and train.

Hi bro, I recently purchase the ONYX i7 (1050Ti) . If you don't do content creation or heavy game loading, 1050TI is suffice even for dota 2 with good framerate. Battery life is not all good given it's using a intel H processor.. not U(for power saving) if you bring it along and use it for web only and casual browsing ..expect up to maximum 3hr 50min or 4 hour usage.

If you have the budget perhaps consider a good CPU & GPU as these aren't changeable in future, however ram can. Hope this helps

I think this is "IPS Glow" (with a bit of bleed). The "glow" we can't do much about (it's an avoidable part of the IPS tech) but the bleed severity depends on your particular panel (and - to a lesser extent - how it's installed).
*
how do you differentiate a bleed and a glow ? seems like mine is more to a glow ? here's another pic.. it's a black wallpaper but my phone somehow capture it with a different colour abit

The white "bar of light" coming from the center bottom frame (and a few smaller ones on the top edge) looks like bleed, while the larger orange-ish patches seems to look like IPS Glow to me.

And yeah, don't worry about glow. Depending on the angle you're shooting the photo you can actually make it even worse or go away completely, but it's not gonna mess up your screen in actual use.

Bad bleed however, can show up in actual use and can be pretty distracting in a dark setting. Fortunately, yours look pretty tame from my experience, I've seen far worse bleed for sure.
*
thanks for enlighten me on this. if this case was to be yours, would you take it back to fix under warranty or just leave it ? it doesn't really bother me on normal usage but it's disturbing to now know that my screen have this kind of light bleed.. kinda like unconsciously i know this issue exists but doesnt affect my normal jsage in a normal light setting though

I'm still facing random laptop shutdowns due to battery regardless of battery percentage but pretty sure its' above 15%. Needs to plug in to turn my laptop back on to find that it's charging at 0% after that. anyone experience this ???? Will illegear change my battery ? don't just send to run another bloody diagnostic when i'm kinda fed up with this random shutdowns already and when the parking is so expensive there.

ONYX i7 GTX 1050 Ti

Hi limwekit,

It sounds like a battery percentage indication error. We will replace your battery if the battery is found to be defective, will reimburse for the parking fee too.
*
If it's an battery indication errror.. it would cause the laptop to shutdown directly with no warning? also unable to turn back on unless i plug in charger. after on, as mentioned charging at 0%.. regardless previous prercentage was 30 or 50 or 60%..

i will try to bring it to the showroom, but can this problem be fix on the day itself or how many days needed to leave it over there at ur Oval office.?

We have to check the physical machine only knows what's the root cause of the problem. if it's battery replacement, we can replace in a day. Please send in next week wednesday onwards because most of our staff are having Raya holiday.
*
Alright.. i can pass to Azim on Wednesday right. will he be there?

Would Like to ask some other users here

Onyx i7 8750 w 1050Ti

Done x1 keyboard replacement (no idea what happened. malfunctioned, no light, no input.etc)
Done x2 Battery replacement and i'm still having unexpected/auto shutdown.

Event Viewers states ""The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.""

anyone have this problems? The laptop is fine if plugged in. If it's on battery it tends to shutdown automatically and will only boot up when plugged in to charger with 0% battery afterwards.

Bought this last year 2018 October and i'm very sad i couldn't bring my ONYX around and it has to be plugged in ALL the TIME.

Illegear offered a new replacement unit of a Raven SE laptop for my ONYX and i felt it wasn't fair to replaced it with a different model plus Raven SE is price RM 3k versus my ONYX rm 5.4k when i bought. Sure, there are depreciation on value but i didn't buy ONYX alone based on it's performance. All manufacturers (asus,acer..etc) offers the latest gen chipset too at that time of me buying and i buy it for it's premium look and feel, mechanical keyboard and per key RGB. It wasn't fair to replace with a RavenSE. ONYX to ONYX would be fairbut they no longer produce unit with specs like mine. They mentioned they don't have the expertise to fix this and would need to ship to manufacturer to fix and i'm pretty sure this is gonna take months and definitely forever. But if the laptop i purchase is defective, the fair replacement would be the same model, no? i don't really care if the raven se has i7 9th gen with 1650 (better spec then my ONYX i7 8th gen 1050Ti) it's a totally different model and i didn't buy a laptop base on the chipset alone !!!!

Azim probably remembers me, and technician who last did the battery replacement was Brenden. I'm voicing out my disappointment on the ONYX product issue that couldnt be rectified.

What should i do now????
Appreciate your view on this rather frustrating matter

I think they already tried their best to resolve the issue. They even offered you a replacement unit which is much better than other big companies out there. If I were you I will let them handle the RMA and send to their factory in China to make the necessary repairs. If urgent and need the laptop for work then just accept the new replacement unit which has better spec.

For reference, I had to RMA my Asus republic of gamers laptop before, it took 3 months and there was no reply from queries until my laptop was ready for collection.

If you are lucky you can get the laptop within 1 month. Otherwise prepare to wait at least 2 months due to shipping from China and back.

Sigh.. i understand what u try to say. what would you do if u r in my situation ?

Hi limwekit,

Thank you for giving us your valuable feedback.

I have done the investigation of your RMA case, the tech team has changed your laptop battery and the laptop doesn't shutdown after the battery change. I believe you also have verified it upon laptop collection. I am sorry to hear the issue comes back again.

This time, we would be very much appreciated if you could send in your laptop for a longer period because we were only given a short period of time to test and fix the intermittent shutdown issue under battery mode.

We can also replace your laptop to another new laptop with similar specifications if you needed a quick solution.

Please let us know and we can be contacted at +60 18-261 8599.

I couldn't verify immediately on the battery issue upon collection because it does not shutdown immediately, it shutdowns on random when not plugged in regardless of battery percentage. I have already in touch with Brenden hope he can give me better option
