Onyx 1060 vs Onyx 2060, which GPU is lesser power demanding eh? I couldn't find any comparison of power draw of 1060 mobile vs 2060 mobile.
Anyone able to comment? I don't play AAA games but I'm just curious of how power efficient is rtx2060 mobile. Gonna try undervolting when I get my onyx2060 soon to see how much it can drop down the temps This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Mar 8 2019, 02:43 PM |

QUOTE(ZM Fong @ Mar 9 2019, 02:58 PM) Both consumes about the same power (2060N is heavily throttled, lower clock speed compared to desktop counterpart) MSI Afterburner 1-Click OC works on Onyx 2060 but that's not what I'm trying to achieve. The result was 180ish mhz boost over stock with 90% confidence reported in MSI Afterburner. That didn't touch memory OC yet.I don't think you can undervolt RTX GPU in Onyx Will explore further when I have time to reduce heat as I don't play AAA games. I plan to cool it down when running mainstream games at high settings at 60fps 1080p. The unit does feel hotter than the Raven. Most likely due to smaller body footprint for thermals |

QUOTE(hshern95 @ Mar 23 2019, 01:48 PM) just get my unit yesterday. I disabled my turbo boost due to this. It is just too hot for meWhen doing web browsing, the CPU and GPU temp is maintained 40 ~ 50 deg C. I tried to play pubg, and found that the CPU temp goes to 95deg C with enabling turbo boost. Is this temp consider as normal ??? |

QUOTE(hshern95 @ Mar 23 2019, 01:59 PM) During gaming it is 60-70degrees. During non gaming it is 40-50ish. You may need turbo boost when playing CPU intensive games tho. Mind you I'm on rtx2060 with i7 8750h. I do believe it matters as the cooling is linked together between CPU and gpu.It could be cooler on i5+gtx1050ti combination |

QUOTE(hshern95 @ Mar 24 2019, 06:22 PM) I saw someone claimed that it can run on XTU with throttlestop undervolting. Eh bro. Did u say u run Throttlestop + XTU at the same time on your laptop previously? After u removed one of it, still crashes?Unfortunately, I already removed throttlestop in my laptop. I just watched youtube and configured it. QUOTE(azwn @ Mar 24 2019, 06:10 PM) I believed that the power button will only pull the fan curve at a full speed. There is no difference for the performance wise except for the temp. That button actually toggles between game mode and office mode. But sometime it boosts up the fan. I'm not sure how it was triggered When in game mode, TDP is set higher and you can see your GPU do boosting. In office mode, max clock is lower. Well this is from my observation though on onyx8750h+rtx2060. And true, limiting max clock is a good way too. Just that I prefer using XTU for now which only has normal non boost core multiplier settings. This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Mar 24 2019, 07:36 PM |

QUOTE(azwn @ Mar 24 2019, 09:06 PM) Oh ok. But how much core clock do you get with that non boost core setting eh? Have you try cinebench r15? How's the score? Core clock is 2.19Ghz with turbo boost disabled and no other thing touched.Score? hahahahaa. just 690-695 based 3 runs i did just now. If on turbo boost usually it is around 12xx. Tried playing with this setup while setting afterburner for flat curve at 1.4Ghz. Fortnite at High preset with motion blur disabled at 60fps and grass disabled, fps averages at 65-68 degrees with it peaked at 70 degrees just for short while. I tried to add in epic Anti Aliasing and epic Textures but that just doesnt improve the quality to a significant level so im sticking to High preset now. QUOTE(Grevil @ Apr 11 2019, 04:32 PM) So currently disable turbo boost is the best way to keep temp low abit? I'm using this way to disable turno boost: I think there's no way to reduce the temp of the top panel near the power button since the placement of the cooling pipes and CPU+GPU is right near the bottom of it. I even trying to aim a stand fan at it yet it is still warm lol. https://www.geeks3d.com/20170213/how-to-dis...-on-a-notebook/. But still felt very hot on the panel of power button. Any others recommended way? Internal or external(is cooling pad still a thing?) both also ok, as long as it cool down onyx when gaming. Anyway it is better to have it warm there rather than right under keyboard or touchpad as that would be unpleasant for daily usage. Should be fine I guess unless you are doing great stressing productivity tasks that constantly ramps up to turbo boost and temp go above 80 degrees. Disabling turbo boost for me looks to be good as my normal productivity tasks and gaming doesn't require super intensive CPU clocks. Haven't tried the setting to 99%. Could work and will try soon but for now Intel XTU serves me fine to control that. This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Apr 12 2019, 09:14 AM |

QUOTE(tch23 @ Apr 25 2019, 08:21 AM) Hmm, noticed that there are no 144hz screen option for onyx lite currently. And big different between 60hz and 144hz? If you game on something that is higher than 100fps, then it would be worth it. MOBA usually benefit a lot since it is not insanely graphic intensive. If your FPS is usually just around 60-70fps on high/epic settings, then 60hz screen should do fine. FPS is not equivalent to screen refresh rate though. Yet again, pushing the GPU to render high will cause high fan noise and heat as well. So in my opinion, there isnt much regret of going for 60hz screen. |

QUOTE(hshern95 @ May 5 2019, 02:07 AM) Hi, I found that my Onyx runs hot while gaming For DotA2, Disable turbo boost then use msi afterburner and set max clock curve to 1.4-1.45ghz. if 1.4 is not providing you with stable FPS while playing at max, increase memory clock to 300-500 where it is stable for your unit.Is it considered as normal as the CPU temperature goes to nearly 90ish or more than that while playing dota2? I just bought my Onyx 1month ago.. think that the thermal paste still new and workable. Some people will say this is bad because boosting is disabled but dota2 doesn't require much CPU to game on anyway. Even at clock non boosted 2.2ghz max it suffice for most non triple A games. Try it. If on 60fps cap and 1080p, you'll get a steady below 70degrees temp. If you go 100fps or 120+, it may go around 75ish. I can get 60fps consistent on Fortnite at all epic settings with grass disabled, motion blur On. The above is a quick and lazy solution though. You can do this just by XTU by toggling turbo on and off with a single restart in between. If you wanna go more advanced, use throttlestop then keep turbo boost enabled and modify multipliers for each cores to see where you want the CPU to boost max to (say 3.6ghz max). The temps would be higher indeed and fans will be louder but you'll get more performance out of 8750h. This post has been edited by pluginbaby: May 5 2019, 12:42 PM |

QUOTE(wookp @ May 20 2019, 10:55 AM) Anyone from Illegear that can answer my query? Does my Illegear Onyx have the option to run on Gsync when i connect it with external freesync monitors? Because for now, I can't seem to find that option even though i am connecting to 2 freesync monitors. U need to connect using mini DP and the monitor needs to be Gsync Compatible. If you check reviews on other models of this chassis, it works (unless illegear is running a custom bios that disables that)Thanks. This post has been edited by pluginbaby: May 21 2019, 05:00 AM |

QUOTE(k!nex @ Jun 15 2019, 07:36 PM) Any Illegear rep can tell me whether it is okay for me to upgrade Win10 to version 1903. I'm running on 1809 now with no issues but I'm looking forward to upgrade to 1903. 8750H+rtx2060 onyx user here as well. So far things seems to be normal. Even throttlestop and msi afterburn works as usual as well. Not sure bout XTU though as I've stopped using it since moving to throttlestop.I am afraid the Illegear Control Center wouldn't work or some other weird stuffs happening due to bios not compatible and stuffs. Onyx 8th gen i7+RTX2060 user here. |

QUOTE(k!nex @ Jun 15 2019, 08:18 PM) Anything weird about wifi you encountered ? I heard a lot of users who migrated to 1903 having issues with intermittent wifi disconnection. So far none. Connected to vpn for 8hours during office via WiFi and it didn't even disconnect even once. If there's a disconnection surely I would notice as I need to relogin again.Same at home. No issues. Just to note that my access point I connect to are 5ghz. Not sure bout 2.4ghz. which devices do they use anyway that heard bout the disconnection? Not illegear onyx? There was a later update rolled out tho after 1903. Installed that one as well already few days ago. |
