What is the best if my budget is under RM4K?
I've been eyeing for the Sony STR-DA1200ES, but what speaker shud i pairing with it?

Any ideas from u guys will be much appreciated. Thanks.

for 4k dude, you planning on getting a full 7.1 channel set up of 5.1 channel set up?
Seem you should go for the 7.1 to enjoy the best out of your PS3 dude, but since there are so many brands out there, i really feel that you need time to shop around and test test test the speakers of your choice.

As different people have different criterias they wanna meet on their speaker set up.
High end set up cost around RM10K easilly for brands like BOSE, B&O, etc

Maybe try to read more reviews on speakers set up in mags like WHAT Hi Fi, Stuff Magazine or T3.

Creative Gigaworks 7.1 or Logitech Z5500 would do

The Gigaworks and the Z5500 is just only the speakers right? Coz I cannot see the receiver.
Gigaworks S750 is a nice looking speakers indeed
The Logitech z5500 also nice

For cheap but decent quality, the suitable combination is Creative S750 + Creative DDTS-100. Cost around 2k maybe..

But the decoder doesn't support 7.1 decoding, so might as well just get the decoder along with a 5.1 speaker such as the Gigaworks ProGamer G500 which retails for RM988.

or else you can buy A/V Receiver..

Speaking of AV receivers anyone knows whether either Onkyo TX-SR604 or Onkyo TX-SR674 pairs well with the PS3 for 7.1 channel and 1080p output. Also will there be any issues if let say I use pc speakers like the Gigaworks S750 with it? Thanks.

For RM4000, you could get a pretty decent system.

First of all I would not recommend sony as I think sony doesn't make good recievers and speakers.

Bose is way overprice and they are so so only. A lot of people are attracted to Bose because they come in very small package and very attractive styling but sound wise its really not very attractive if you are an audiophile. You can easily get a cheaper sets that is way better than a Bose.

And don't get those 5.1 surround system that comes with those nice looking speakers and DVD players with some cool looking woofers. Those really sucks. Get some good bookshelf speakers from UK and match it with a good subwoofer and you should get better sound than even the BOSE can't match!!

For receivers, I would recommend Harmon Kardon AVR 245 or AVR 145. It sounds great and it would match the PS3 in the looks department. It's rated 50W RMS and its a high current amp. Don't be fool by the 50W per channel only as this is a high current amp which can easily beat those rated 100W. One thing you should know about channel power rating such as those used by Sony or Yamaha etc is that they rate their amp base on maximum watts per channel which means that the maximum output per channel is 100w but it rarely can achieve that and it won't sound good at that output too.

Here is a link to Harmon Kardon website and go check it out how beautiful the AVR 245 looks and its a perfect match when place beside the PS3.

My actual plan was to buy the Harmon Kradon but then I got a good deal for Denon AVR 3805 so I bought the denon instead. It was price at RM3900 but i bought it for RM2500 and pair it with my worthy B&W front speakers, Wharfedale Diamond 9 CM centre speakers and 3 Wharfedale Diamond DFS surround speakers.

Now what is missing is the PS3.

Is the 7.1 channel can be past thru optical or must use hdmi?

Just set it up in the amp which one you wanna use.

Here what i've found out while doing some research about sound systems for the PS3. It is about the game Resistance: Fall of Man that can output one of the advance sound tech in the videogames history, the 7.1 PCM Uncompressed . (note: this impression was a personal opinion from the IGN blogger called Chubigans, but IMO he got a valid impressions that i take his word for it. Oh, btw, he's using the Onkyo 604 receiver).

Neoardi good find. That settles it for me. So anyone knows where in Malaysia, they have ready stocks of either the Onkyo TX-SR674 or TX-SR804? Am interested in getting either one, but want to test them out personally first, before splurging!

The US discounted price is very attractive, so hopefully it's reasonably priced here too.

RM4k can get u Sony STR-DA5200ES, the only amp from Sony that has graphical user interface similar to PS3.

Is it available here? Please tell me what shop (i must see this ). I guess RM4k are only for the receiver without the speakers right?

Nice review.. I really admit that Resistance Fall of Man is one the best game to showcase PS3 capability in surround sound.

Even with my 5.1 setup, the surround sound is unbelievable. You can actually hear from where the Chimera is approaching, can hear their footsteps, not to mention explosion here and there.

Nooo... I won't want to get a Sony receiver if I were you. There so many better choice than Sony at RM4000.

Hehehe , i just wan to know the Sony's potential only. But i'm tempting to get the Onkyo SR605 (the info on g5sim's thread).
HDMI 1.3, DTS Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD ........oh well....hope i can afford it.

I have a gigaworks 7.1 and benq 24 fpw with HDMI. Using Xtrememusic soundcard. I was wondering how will i get PS3 to play 1080p and uncompressed sound. Thank you for your input.

if ur benq supports 1080p, and u have those HDCP compliant thingy, then with proper medium, u can play 1080p lor

for uncompressed sound u need a receiver with HDMI

remind u,anything about sound system....dont forget to buy good active sub woofer that cost more then 1k..and also good cable..

yah from i been looking on9, the HDMI seems to be the onli thing tat can go for 7 channel speaker! Coaxial cable only up to 5. So maybe they will be more and more hdmi sound card or receiver coming up this coming year...

yape, only HDMI can, unles 2.0 LPCM, then optical i think can, but for surround pcm, only hdmi

oh well, then the future DDTS is out of the question. Already using 5.1 so no point upgrading to another 5.1 right? Problem is, the table where i put all my gear is already full, no space for an AV receiver unless I ditch the table and go with an AV rack (<--more money, duh..).. Moral of the story, forget about upgrades for the time being.

Get the Sony HT-DDW685 5.2 speaker then. Retails for RM999, comes with a receiver, 5 speakers and 2 subwoofers.

I have just order a AV receiver which comes with HDMI v1.2, 2 input/ 1 output. Now i need some advice on wat type of speaker to get for 7 channel experience!!! Prefer to be desktop size!!! What brand for really good uncompressed sound!!!!!!!

I got it RM2800.

I bought a old (but new) Pioneer 5.1 DTS model at a retail outlet for 150 USD. Now, there were two reasons why I wanted this model -- 1. The price 2. It has frontal surround sound (bounces off the wall so I don't have to bother with wiring) 3. It has a DIGITAL INPUT.

This is so important because all the new pioneer models no longer have a digital input because they are trying to cut costs.

yea, new pioneer no optical inputliao, but personally, i dun like those frontal surround, and i also odn like wriring, hence, wireless surround speakers

K.L -- bought the display model in Megamall. If you look around then you should be able to find the model -- theres another one with a wireless back speaker but that didn't look good and it didn't fit properly in my living room so we opted for the frontal surround. Sounds good for the price anyway.

I saw one Pioneer model at Sogo yesterday, came with optical in and wireless also. It was a display set and the salesman mati-mati say negative things about it sampai i terpengaruh also...hehe

Im looking for a 5.1 ch surround system. Currently, my Samsung LCD is connected to my PS3 via HDMI and to my normal DVD via the normal connectors that came with it.

Im currently looking at the HITBs - Sony DAV-DZ555k, Pioneer PIO-HTZ555 or the Pioneer PEE-HTP2700. Alternate will be the Logitech 5500 (which means I will still use my old DVD player). Budget <RM1.8k.

I know i should connect my PS3 to the HTIBs / Logitech via optical input. Tapi kalau ada HDMI in pun boleh kan ie:

LCD TV -> PS3 (HDMI) -> HTIBs / Logitech?

My grouse like most of u is that the newer HTIBs don't have optical input.

Having the PS3 is a blast, but getting the best value for money 5.1 ch surround system is quite pening lah for me. Pls advise.

In the KLAV i only see Receivers with HDMI in and out. Didnt notice anything else that come with HDMI in and out.

Guy guy, new here.. for your information, I own the muteki series.. and the hdmi just pass through, it won't support uncompress PCM from blu-ray
that's mean the audio just came out from your tv speaker don't be fool by the price like I did

I guess only optical in, not really sure la bcoz the brochure don't given any much info.
The 2 subwoofer really give enuff BOOM!!! hahaha
Thats why it called 6.2 and 5.2 ch surround...
