Anyone feel it's harder to apply for cc nowadays?

I applied for 2 cards, both got rejected. Not sure the reason.

My ccris good, salary no issue.

Currently only got 2 credit cards, but plan to cut 1 if the next one approved.

Do the banks limit the number of cc can be held by an individual?

Depends on individual, my own applications have had no issue, and I have 10 cards currently (slightly down, used to be more). My industry is super stable though so maybe that contributes to it.

The problem is M2U Artificial Intelligence.
You can be rejected if you apply for a low end card with high income.
Don't use M2U to apply Maybank CC. Go to Maybank Card Centre (including manually fill up and print out the application form and email to Card Centre) or branch, so the human can read and check your documents.

Now this makes sense

Not to say my salary high, but I was actually applying for credit card with low annual income requirement.

Will try the manual way and see.

Thanks for your input!

Most likely not, but if your expectation not too high of redeeming frequently, maybe still ok.

can use Alliance Bank Visa Infinite as example. let's say you spend these things per month

2000 on ewallet reload / online
1000 on dining/grcoery

You get 16000 points from the 1st item and 5000 points on the 2nd item. Total points 21000.

1 year you get 252,000 points. Converted to enrich miles, it's only 16k miles because conversion is 15k points for 1k miles.

You can google for some pictures, i found one from genx geny genz blog... according to his picture april 2024, economy one way to tokyo starts from 19,600 and business one way to tokyo starts from 66,600.

So you spend one year + maybe 2 months, to get potentially one way ticket to tokyo (you still need to pay tax) and 19.6k is probably lowest, but still achievable if you are ok with odd-days. then you need to kumpul 4 years to get 1 way business class ticket.

this is based on lowest (saver rate) vs cashback you could have earn...? depends on what you want...

The answer is depends. If you are frequent flier than 2-3K monthly spending won't cut it at all. I don't fly frequently, which allows me to collect some points to convert to miles.

You can pay for your air ticket using points. Meaning to say a RM 200+ air ticket may be offset by 15K enrich points [this was way back before the mile points got inflated].

In instances of emergency, say a death of a relative close to festive season, air tickets would cost an arm and a leg, you can also use the points to knock it off.

If you intend to go down this path i.e. collect miles, then i suggestion the following:

1. identify the carrier that you intend to use most frequent (for instance, certain credit card only offer MAS example, HL VI, AMbank VI Enrich or Alliance Bank VI)

2. find the card that gives most BANG for the buck RM 4 spend to 1 Enrich miles (Ambank) or RM 3.5 spend to 1 Enrich (HL VI).

3. find a card with the least amount of exclusions, for instance, if the 2-3K monthly spend is mainly JomPay and the card excludes collection of points using JomPay, then you will get nothing at all.

Why is the UOB ONE being discussed / recommended more frequently, compared to HLB WISE?

With lower annual fee, and better cashback per category, with the same minimum requirement of RM500 spend, why is the HLB WISE not more preferable?

Why better cashback per category? UOB One gives 10% without date restriction. HLB gives 8% (less) with date restriction (weekend only). This is fine for some types of spending (e.g. petrol and online spend) but other types not so much. Dining isn't weekend-only (in fact for working adults trying to save money, dining spend probably less on weekends since have time to cook), grocery spend as well depends on individual timing (e.g. grocery near to workplace then weekend cashback isn't too helpful).

HLB is good because online is not limited to only grab (like UOB One is) and I believe the grocery list is MCC based and hence wider than UOB One's limited list (I say limited but practically for my KV usage that's the only grocers I can use CC at anyway).

Anyway because of that I and my wife hold 3 UOB One cards and I've cancelled my HLB Wise long ago. Our weekend spend not sufficient to justify the card.

Another reason - WISE I only held for 11 months due to refuse to pay annual fee. HLB doesn't provide annual fee waivers.
