QUOTE(SSJBen @ Nov 8 2022, 03:09 PM) If retailers here can really follow the new MSRP for 5800x3D, that is a mega deal for a CPU simply for gaming. Combine that with a decent x570 and some outgoing DDR4 kits, you'll have a system that'll last as long as Sandy Bridge did. which are the 'decent' ones?currently on a 7700k with with asus max hero suddenly GAS strike |

AM5 so far got like a few issues for me.. cold boot time is pretty long.
Also remember to disabled usb selective suspend setting in power options.. this thing cost some usb issue like AM4 and stutters. The rest quite happy so far. |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Nov 24 2022, 01:59 PM) I can't speak for others, but me personally been using x570 Crosshair VIII since 2019, mostly been error free other than:1) Slow cold boot time back during Zen 3 launch AGESA (forgot the version), has been fixed obviously. 2) Random USB disconnects (brought over from the days of Zen+), I personally haven't encountered the issue for a long time already, so AFAIC it's fixed - for me. Board has been solid otherwise, holds up zero issues with my 5900x with 1:1:1 config of 2000mhz FCLK + ultra tight RAM timings. Of course FCLK is CPU silicon lottery dependent, but some of the AGESA updates has helped me achieve the "golden" 2000mhz so at least I can't say Asus has been doing nothing and just counting their cash. One last note: AGESA 1.2.0.3c and beyond (latest is 1.2.0.7) still has the unresolved EDC bug. So if you do OC beyond limits, that's one thing to consider. |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Nov 24 2022, 05:38 PM) I mean if you're building a new system, just go for Intel 13th gen instead. Better value there with a 13700k. If you wanna bet big on Zen 4, that's not a terrible choice either but the price of entry for that platform is still stupidly high at the moment.EDIT - forgot to mention AM5 does have some issues like long cold boot, system hang during sleep/suspend, randomly poor Win11 performance. Can you test idle power for your setup? Watt meter is enough. Use these Browser with 5 tabs media player steam battle.net My 5900X setup was drinking 120-150W idle. |

QUOTE(TristanX @ Jan 2 2023, 09:26 AM) Idk man power consumption means nothing here in Malaysia unless you live elsewhere in the world. Electric bill hasn't even gone up ever since I use my new build for 3 months now and I'm running mine at least 10 hours a day. There is always Eco mode if you want to "save". Eco mode solve everything if you care about power consumption.Edit: I'm more worried about food going up in price then paying for my electric bill atm. So x3d is official for 8, 12, 16 7000 series. Wonder if the temp will reach 125 "C at full load.

Lower price and much lower power draw but only slower by 5% in gaming and slower 10% in productivity. 7900 only 40c in Prime95, that's very low temperature. |

QUOTE(John Chaser @ Jan 5 2023, 11:17 AM) No, AMD set the max tjmax for the 7000 series x3d chips at 89C. So I guess how much performance you get depends on how good your cooler is because the CPU will keep on ramping up until it hits the temp limit or power limit |

Hi, I'm trying to understand how to OC my ryzen 5 3600.
Watching youtube guides and reading article online, what i found to be the the "go-to" way is to set CPU ratio and set voltage to override mode in order to set a static voltage. Reading other people's comments that they managed to get stable at 4.2ghz at 1.25 volts etc etc. When I tried to set all core to 4.2ghz at various voltages like 1.25v, 1.275v, 1.325v, 1.35v. The higher voltages can pass full 10 min run of Cinebench R23 but it can't pass Prime95 stress test. Each of the voltages once i try to stress test with Prime 95 the text would immediately say error occurred or hardware failure. That means my OC isn't stable right? I dont know why i cant replicate other people's results even with more voltage. I understand silicon lottery is a thing and that what works for some may not work for others but i'm confused as to what im doing wrong. |
