any asrock users? i recently bought motherboard, was initially looking at asrock, but the more recent news in 2025 was bad news for the brand. previously they were lauded for being good  sweat.gif

i can't remember which youtube showed the stats (hardware unboxed maybe?) but they showed a statistic for which brand motherboard had the worst rate of failure when used with 9800x3d. Asrock was #1 for that  sweat.gif other brands got mentioned also but by the numbers, asrock had many more hits.
dont know if this is true, but maybe that is why wendel couldn't discover  issue. maybe the newer batch fixed the issues prior?

Yup, Asrock in 2024 was rock solid, but not so in 2025, particularly 8xx series mobos.. GN investigated but couldn't really pinpoint the root cause.

hm... any1 see the cpu cooler prices?

Noctua NH-D15 G2 = RM 700

ID-Cooling Frozn A720 CPU Air Cooler - Black = RM265 *this is what i use

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE Non-ARGB/ARGB Dual Tower CPU Cooler = RM168.30

i almost went with a thermal spirit 120 or SE because on charts it was the best price per cooling proposition in the charts. it did a decent job despite being one of the cheapest cpu air fan coolers. but i didn't get it because after checking, seems there was not enough room clearance for the ram i planned to use..

so i went with the A720. the price wasn't too excessive and in the benchmark cooling charts for an air cooler, it performed very well.

After doing stress test benchmarking with amd 7800x3d, the temps min/avg around 50-55c (this is for normal usage even while gaming), then max 75-80c (this is when doing the max full stress benchmark hardcore mode using OCCT).

Yeah, just go with best price/performance and skip the insanely overpriced Noctua. Next gen mounting area is the same. All coolers that supports current mounting should work.

i did get 1 noctua for my server. i never got noctua before.

NOCTUA NH-D12L

only reason i got this was because i wasn't sure what was a decent cpu cooler for thin profile. i only knew this one was reliable.' price? Rm 609. Never doing that again. Only reason i did was to try once. yes the quality looked good, and came with their own thermal paste. but the price? probably not a good deal tbh sad.gif

i initially wanted to get the scythe fuma but i realized the one i got cannot fit. so got a refund for that. the casing i got was a rack 3 bay size, apparently i under estimated the height. next time i'll check height specifications properly, lesson learned laugh.gif

if anyone has a good recommendation for thin profile nas cpu cooler, do share.

for the server fans (or even desktop), artic is highly recommend. It's almost as good as the noctuas, but they aren't over priced.

if you are getting especially for server, get the correct model. the one with dual ball bearing and rated for 24/7 operation.

if you get the other, sure it will still work, but chances are they will break sooner since they weren't designed for 24/7 usage.

artic is the brand for pc/server which is good value. the only reason i didn't get for my desktop case, is because the fractal torrent default fans is more than sufficient, and doesn't require additional fans. it would probably impact negatively the air pressure if i added anymore.
