the 10k budger + reliability would be the major limiting factor here... only reliable + somewhat pretty thing i can think of atm is the satria....
mind you these 2 cost alot more to maintain
*
The maintenance part of it is pretty standard pricing for any D segment cars. Its still worth it to consider Optima/Sonata, if you ask me... smile.gif

depends on what you're looking for.
i suppose you're attracted to it's looks and cheapness?
More inclined to the price... i'm looking for a 2nd hand japanese car that's fun to drive, no more than 35k (total cost) and won't cost me a hand and leg for maintenance. I'm clueless about its maintenance costs though.

drop by the nearest spare parts shop to your house and ask for these items:

engine oil + oil filter : you're expected to change this around every 5,000km
radiator coolant + air filter : you're expected to change this around every 25,000km
gearbox oil : you're expected to change this around every 20,000km
absorbers/lower arms/mountings/bearings/bushes : usual stuff that needs replacement when buying used cars

mechanically the engine itself is relatively easy to maintain.... its a basic mitsu anyway. wear and tear also ok... (not sure bout drive shafts tho)... just keep in mind that, the body panels, trim might cost alot more (assuming you want to refurbish it), frankly speaking would not get that if you are on a tight budget. if you just like it for what it is and are willing to spend bits here and there on the car, sure go ahead....

i have a tiny update, have a friend who owns one of these. He says interior parts are alright, can get from halfcut shops..... the thing you should worry bout would be the gearbox which is an amt..... apparently not a common problem since not many have issues with it but you should keep in mind that the gearbox related components can cost an arm....

hmmm i think you need to do a little more research before you continue... at this point, im pretty sure you have not really done much research on this car. Find out which parts are shared and which parts are not.....

mechanically 60% shared possible. now, what about the the other 40%?

between the 2, personally like the inspira (i did always have a soft spot for the inspira), maintanance and fc might be alittle higher then the vios but it is a larger and more powerful car. only thing missing on the inspira is esc (or whatever u call it). Best would be to find a non-abused STANDARD unit. no kits no rims, 100% STANDARD.

well... a vw with no dsg ehh? the polo 1.6 has no dsg... but its pretty much a kosong car with a german badge same like how the vios is a kosong car with a japanese badge

vios
-kosong car
-reliable as hell!
-cheap to maintain (relatively)
-kinda not worth it due to the high resale value (since you are buying used, its not in your favor)
*admit, i have a hatred of this car so could be biased*

inspira
-its basically a sushi car (earlier batches were mainly japanese)
-fairly reliable if not abused and maintained (typical sushi car)
-cheap to buy, maintanance is reasonable.
-looks decent, nice to drive, powerfulish (its not really a performance car but its no slouch)
-slightly ahbengish cause many convert it into evos tarnishing its image
-proton badge (dont think its a problem)
-no esc (not like the rest have it anyway)

polo 1.6
-also a kosong car (saga of for germans!)
-cheap to buy, maintanance while is not crazy, is on the highish side of things
-not really special if the tsi+dsg combo is missing (but at least the problems dont come along)

or you know... new persona which if you can deal with the size, is a viable option~

AMT's are automated manuals so they're quite hardy like manuals, however since they're uncommon parts would be more expensive if anything goes wrong.

worst come to worst the mounting points should be the same, just transplant a mitsu/proton engine/gearbox into it.

amt's yeah same like manuals... BUT big but here..... that mechatronic system (i think they call it the arm or actuator) once rosak, fuuuyohhhhh!!!!

not sure if the gearbox mounts are the same.. but logically speaking, our mechanics are very creative, if wana masuk, sure can masuk punya whistling.gif

im confused.....
getz
-much older..... and much cheaper
-not exactly a cheap and cheerful car. Cheap to buy, not very cheap to maintain

i10
-to me this is like a getz replacement
-not sure about maintanance dont think it will be that cheap, (cost price to maintanance ratio ofc)

axia
-wait what... new for 20k or less ??!!
-cheaper to maintain (im sure) than the 2 above
-better mileage than the 2 above
-im also sure its out of your budget

satria neo
-simple no problems
-makan minyak je

LOL! yes they down shift on their own.

If the engine bay wasn't cleaned look for signs of oil leaks.
See if the radiator top got any cracks or leaks.
Smoke should be clear, any color white/black would be an issue for exhaust.

Sifu lsm1991 zenix Dilemma on choosing either one, my current ride is honda City IDSI 2003 (13 yrs) and plans to change one soon.

Got few options.

(1) Madza 6, 2.0 (yr2012) - 65k to 68k
(2) Madza 3, 2.0 (yr2012) - 60k to 65k
(3) Honda Civic, 1.8 S (yr2012) - 65k to 70k
(4) Honda City, 1.5E (yr2012) - 53k to 57k
(5) Honda Jazz, 1.5E (New) - 70k to 72k

Dislike Toyota although admit it has a good RV but the design is too awful for me.

Thanks Ism1991 for your reply,

I have no issue to extend my budget a bit, new Axia cost RM35k, but considering its quite high to purchase cash, so I'm opt for different brands.

Satria Neo sounds interesting. Any other car you would think of?
