Quick question, how to properly test a car during test drive? My friend offer me his Wira 1.6 XLi, 4 Speed AT(?) not sure but his speedo can go to 240km, I drive feels fine no nasty vibration during high speed or in D when a stop. Basically what to look out for?

Wira 1.6xli is a good car.
So you're assessing a Ferrari?
Why you need to do high speed test?  laugh.gif

Drivetrain assessment can be done from 20-60kmh.
Look out for weird jerks during gear shifts.
Make sure your route has turns, speed bumps, and a long straight.
You can assess the gears going up smoothly, then up down shifts during corners, and quick downshifts when aproaching speed bumps.

*
TBH I rarely drive auto car, I kid you not all my family's car is manual. The Wira is Auto, Auto can downshift by self ka? Or need to put to 2? Noob auto driver here LOL.

What should I do pre test drive? How to check the engine? Or if the drive is good, then engine = good condition? icon_question.gif My other friend say just check for leaks when the car is stationery, any white exhaust smoke, ask for full service record(? not sure about this)

QUOTE(VeeJay @ Sep 30 2016, 02:17 PM)
hahaha...just to share...

I used to own a wira 1.6 manual for 13 years...easily one of my best local car experience, in terms of reliability, suspension, performance and pretty economical at 13km/L

I could easily push it to 200kmh, max was at 220kmh (standard engine, with Porting and polishing)
*
Yea that's what I taught too but so far just drove it in city, not yet test drive long distance.

LOL! yes they down shift on their own.

If the engine bay wasn't cleaned look for signs of oil leaks.
See if the radiator top got any cracks or leaks.
Smoke should be clear, any color white/black would be an issue for exhaust.

idk I just feel that I can't engine brake with autos laugh.gif

Hi guys i need a recommendation here, among 4 choices:

HRV E Spec 108k after discount
HRV V Spec 119k after discount
Mazda 3 GL Spec 104k after discount
Mazda 3 Hi Spec 119k after discount

I know it is quite difficult to compare between mini SuV with Sedan.
Currently i am driving Honda City and would like to try an SUV but the quality and interior of Mazda 3 really attracts me.

My current dilemma:

Pro HRV
-Suv
-More Space and bigger
-Honda has more sell value?

Pro Mazda-3
-Excellent interior design and quality
-Sporty look

Would appreciate any comment Thank you!
*
IMO Mazda 3 is a better drive. If you want a proper small SUV look at Subaru XV.

sorry noob question, actually where to find all these price list? For parts? Do they even release them online?

Hi, i am in the market looking for 2nd hand cars which I narrowed down into these models. It is for my brother.

Budget is 40-50k

1. Mazda 3- (High spec 2.0, MZD engine but worry of spare parts cost and availability?)
2. Honda CRV-(Reliable, Honda, SUV)
3. Kia Forte-(Decent specs even 1.6, Safety, but what about spare parts cost and availability?)
4.New Perodua Bezza Advance (Brand new car)
5.New Persona

Any advice?
*
M3.

Do let your brother test drive first.

city
-abit bigger than the vos iirc?
-i think the E has folding seats compared to the vios J (double check, not sure)

vios
-this is a sort of 'new' vios. One would think that the car is not really mature enough to tell if there are any potential issues BUT toyota really looooooves reusing stuff. Its pretty much the same case here.... same old body (proven stuff), same engine used in other cars (avanza/sienta) and what i assume to be a very similar cvt in there as well. heck they even threw in stability control.
-Spare parts im not sure but im guessing it wont be far off the old vios other than when it comes to the cvt. (again just guessing). The vios and city's maintanance costs are not really that far off, the city being alittle more to maintain in general. It was only the city's 1st cvt gearbox which cost a crapton more to replace in event it kaputs

bezza
-imo basically a low cost vois... maybe a 'vios-lite'
-i guess you pay more you get more applies here?
-a very decent town car but a not a great option if you do lots of long distance traveling.
-if driven carefully... the fc for this thing is fantastic
*
Which is a better car if you include the new Persona? hmm.gif

if you ask me, persona oklah.... its also very similar... bigger than the axia....
persona
-more stable (imo not that great actually.... old persona was better)
-bigger
-stability control throughout the range!!

bezza
-better fc (even without a cvt)
-fancy start stop thing (kenot ingat whats it called)
*
So Vios,City or Persona? laugh.gif

shop
+ you can view a plethora of cars
+ easier process, insurance transfer matters all handled
- trustworthy?? well wont trust anyone (even owners). Anyone might cheat you, and chances that the average buyer finding out is slim to none if damage or issues are covered up by some who knows what he/she is doing
- more expensive (including processing fees and whatever crap they can throw at you)

direct seller
+ usually cheaper (usually much cheaper)
- you can usually only view one car at one time (unless you go to somehing like the sunday car market in pj, tho should note that nice cheaper cars are very quickly swiped by dealers)
- could be lying but since they dont do this for a living, possibility reduced not negated
- buying process is alittle more complex if done yourself

Edit: also if looking for older car (10years+), what are some great models or are there any that I should stay away from?
What kind of car are you looking for? What are your priorities?

decent cars:
-latio
-sentra
-city (check tranny)
-persona, large simple cheap
-saga, even simpler~

i like: (avoid if you dont know how to jaga/maintain cars or are working with a very limited budget)
-e36

avoid:
- s class merc
- 7 series beemer
too many sillychoices to list
*
Curious why to avoid S class and 7 series? hmm.gif

Hi Bros

want to ask your opinion on the following choice

1. Brand : Mercedes - Benz
2. Budget : RM150k and below
3. New/Used/Unreg : used or unreg
4. Specs : C200 (2013 year) or C180
5. Transmission : AUTO
6. NA or FI :
7. Type :
8. Remarks : prefer white, if unreg better cause want to transfer my old number plate over

Planning to get MB, can also used as wedding car, prefer white
also want to get the one with face-lift (which have the 'C' shape LED light in front)

- can see Mudah they selling around 110k - 150k, mostly used car, but their advertisement looks very fake
- 1st time 2nd hand car buyer here
- what are the common things to do? go to the autocity and test drive? or drive to mercedes workshop and ask them check?

the current model is W205? - not very sure on merc, just wanna upgrade to a decent car
- many people say, buy 2nd hand merc sure masuk workshop many times (this abit scary)
*
Find a friend/mechanic that is knowledgeable in Benz. Do a lot of research on the model you're aming for.

Hi all I need a recommendation for a sedan/suv/wagon.

Brand : Doesn't matter, except no korean cars.
2. Budget : MYR 50-60k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Doesn't matter.
4. Specs : Best specs money can buy
5. Transmission : I'm fine with manual, tbh I'd rather take a 6spd manual over 4 AT
6. NA or FI : Prefer NA but fine with Turbo as long as the lag isn't too much
7. Type : Sedan/Wagon/SUV
8. Remarks : Main priority is comfort as in able to seat 5 for long journeys and practicality,in terms of fold flat seats, boot size etc. Decent handling, performance(<8sec 0-100km/h) and a reverse camera would be a great to have.

Not too bothered about electronic driver aids. Maintenance doesn't really bother me, as long as <5k per year for service. FC not important. I can buy with cash no problem.

A lot of thanks for your explanation.  biggrin.gif  ohh lol for the weird pricing, I originally wanted 20-30k since I am going for 2nd hand, but on second thought I don't mind spending more money if there's any other reliable cars around. And what else should I consider before buying a 2nd hand car though? It's my first time and I don't have much knowledge on cars so I don't wanna get conned or anything lel.

Do lots of research on the particular model you want, ask someone who knows about cars to accompany you to the test drive.

Hi All,

1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : 80 to 90k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Doesn't matter. For used car, I prefer it to be newer than 3-4 years as any older may require more maintenance.
4. Specs : Full Spec.
5. Transmission : Preferably auto
6. NA or FI :  Any
7. Type : Sedan/ Hatchback
8. Remarks :

Currently driving a 2007 Myvi. Looking forward to upgrading to a car that has some power and handling to cater for some moments of spirited driving and yet able to ferry four adults comfortably. Point to note is that I drive mostly alone but I will still like to be able to fetch my family members around occasionally.

I have recently test driven the new City and new Mazda 2. While I do enjoy the big cabin space and looks of the City, I prefer the interior finishing, power and handling of Mazda 2.

The Mazda 2 is a decent car, but the small legroom space for the rear passenger is really saddening. Besides, I personally feel that the exterior design seems to be more feminine, especially the hatchback version.

I'm looking for suggestions on the options available for my budget that has the performance of the Mazda (or better..!) and yet with decent cabin space to ferry passengers around.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/ advices.  smile.gif

Try searching for used Mazda 3 or 6, IINM with your budget should be no problem for used 2016 Mazda 3, for Mazda 6 maybe 2014 model can get.

Hi All, just hope to hear some comments / recommendations, am researching to get a car but not really in a rush
1. Brand. Non Local
2. Budget. <100k
3. Used car between 2- 3 years old
4. Specs. above 1.6cc, below 2.5cc. nothing much about fuel efficiency, as long as not worse than my persona (7.2L / 100km)
5. Transmission. Automatic
6. Any
7. Type. Crossover SUV
8. Remarks: currently am driving 2nd-hand Persona (8 years old car; 3 years with me now). pretty happy with it overall but just exploring some better ride options with larger space & speed. So far after comparing a few, Mazda 3 2015 Facelift model comes into my mind. Fits my bill and I just loves their exterior look. Only if their interior can be pushed further similar with VW's digital led instruments

As for now I'm not really keen with new cars (due to depreciation paper loss) but feel free to welcome any other models that's not SUV, as long as it's not smaller than Persona both in speed / space / comfort.
*
If you want a proper SUV go hunt for used Subaru Forester 2.0XT, under 100k can get. biggrin.gif

If you're buying used you may want to consider f10 5-series as well as there are many recons at almost same price as used f30.

Not OP, but curious what F10 model to look for and which model to stay away from? or more to do with what engines they use?

Anyway, I've test drive a Mazda 6 and decided on it. It might be lethargic on low speed but quite good on high speed, plus it's comfortable and spacious.

IMHO if you need peppy response for low speed for D-segment, need to be hybrid like 330e
