But again, if you guys xprocdannygeni have the money and willing to splurge, i would suggest going for dahon/tern/khs or any other foldie with more gears. you dont want to make ppl wait for you in group rides, unless if you are like me, just riding with wife without any thing to rush.

I used 2 cateye on both my bike.. if halfway run out of power..can still buy at any 7/11 or mamak stalls.. I used to use those rechargeable creek lighting..but always forgot to charge.. ohh.. I strongly recommend install an air horn on your bike..very useful.. even my mtb I also installed 1.. This post has been edited by myak9: Feb 20 2014, 12:47 AM |

QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Feb 20 2014, 07:29 AM) Imduno about others but i only lube when i sees the chain is dry. And qith my current riding pattern, it would be quite some time between lubing. Chain dry is better than wet. When it is wet, you can see the light reflection. It makes me feel uneasy because it is OIL there.. When it is dry, i like it. But the chair looks blackie because of the lube dried and deposited like solid as the sand/dust stick to it. So eventually i become uneasy as well. While cycling, it is easy to notice the chain rubbing the teeths sound. That is how i gauge when to lube. I have yet to lube my chain with proper lube (using singer oil all this while) So, i bought this for Rm50. Before using it, i need to clean my chain first, might as well give a SPA to my UGO too. Dishwasher liquid is ready. Just need a time and little bit of effort/discipline to move my butt to clean. Hahaha. ![]() |

R.N.Samy bicycle shop seems pretty good with lots of selections.
The Raleigh UGO is Rm750.00 Friendly service I found USJ bicycle shop to be quite expensive, rude and arrogant when i went there and the owner spoke as if i was a little kid, you know like he was ta;king down on me rather then answering my simple questions. The Raleigh UGO was Rm920.00 nett there, but what really made me angry was his attitude, and i told him off in a very firm manner , which he sort of went off as i told him, he should do his homework 1st before talking crap. Opinion needed. I have a l MTB and am looking for a reasonable Folding Bike... Raleigh UGO..Rm750.00 Or better ..my budget is around 1.5K maximum..dont want to spend too much, although i can afford it as i also jog , swim and work out at the GYM. Any suggestions plse ?? Brake pad may give some loud sound when u brake. It is annoying but it is good to let people know your presence when you brake or sudden brake. At first, i was thinking to get AirZound (horn like LORRY) but i think my brake pads works the same. LOL. This post has been edited by zeliustitan: Feb 20 2014, 09:45 AM |

With foldie, i can just fold it up, put it at the car backseat and just drive to anywhere to ride. I can also take trains/lrt. Store in bag can masuk bas or naik aeroplane. With a full sized bicycle, i need to invest in a rack. Plus i cant take public transport with it. I wanted to go sightseeing and travel on bicycle but i cant cyle long and far. Hece bring a bicycle to a destination and ride short short there.foldie really slow ah? since u ask about mobility issue... Thats why i was looking nt touring/hybrid, in the end settled for a foldie. Exercise, is one of the reason too. |

Anyone here can comment on Dahon Boardwalk D8 vs Tern Link D8 vs Dahon Speed P8 vs Dahon Mu P8?
All 8-speed, though there are differences in price due to diff parts. Question is, are the "better" parts on the pricier models worth the extra diff in price? |

hi,
i am currently using kenda kriterium 20x1 tyres and notice they wear out pretty fast to a point that even small stones can easily break through and puncture the tube. can anyone share their experience with 451 tyres or any good recommendation for a more durable model? and also which shops might stock them. |

After so much internet searching and also with the help of many LYN forum members here , i decided to not think too much again, as too much thinking sometimes muddles the mind.
Narrowing down to 3 choices and increasing my budget slightly, as i could not get a good reasonable bike at Rm750.00 to Rm1,500.00, i decided on the Java Fit 16 speed , as it had mostly what i wanted. Sure, i could have spent Rm2,500.00 and gone for a Dahon for that speed, but i told myself that since i had 2 MTB's, all i needed was something reasonable and affordable, hence the decision. As a Hobbyist photographer, i would not hesitate to pay 4k or more for a good Camera or Lens, but since i am not that a Cyclist, i really had not much of an idea. Wished i could have gone with the Dahons or TErns..but i decided not to. What i realized is that if one can increase his/her budget slightly , there is nothing like riding a bike with minimum 16speed and more will be better , as i found out at Putrajaya that i needed the extra gears for slight hill climbs, extra gears really do help . I am sure the professionals here will be able to elaborate more.. Meanwhile i will use my MTB while at home and the Foldie when i need convince.. Oh, the butt hurts a little , hihi.. |

Were you with the group of cyclists with kids, adults ? @danieltwl: Me n my mates are looking to check out Ara Damansara or Bukit Cahaya (not night ride) perhaps this weekend or so but if we go Putrajaya again we'll let u know Paging for fellow fake china Hummer users. Do you guys have this problem with the top tube quick release skewer? The one that holds the folding mechanism together, mine is like crooked after a couple of rides Has anyone replaced this with some other quick release skewers? I think it should be a standard 5mm skewer from the front or the rear wheel |

QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Feb 25 2014, 09:29 AM) definitely! The Vybe is actually the former Eco C7 which was my first foldie. I have also modded it to 27 speed. It took me to many rides and places. If I were to choose between Tern Link C7 and Dahon Eco C7, I would choose the Dahon. The new folding latch and the color is the dissapointing factor in the new Dahon Vybe. If you don't mind tbose, it is still a good ride especially the C7a.josh hon cringed when his c7 was compared to c7s rodalink in kch offer me free shipping so now i am waiting for their email to confirm the deal This post has been edited by etigge: Feb 26 2014, 12:38 AM |

QUOTE(Ghosthunter @ Feb 20 2014, 09:58 AM) R.N.Samy bicycle shop seems pretty good with lots of selections. going back to that usj shop is rubbish. i bought my speed p8 from them. end up like wat u said. Thanks |

QUOTE(dannygeni @ Feb 27 2014, 02:52 PM) Yes, most Dahons and Terns already came with foldable pedals as stock. Even my Ugo. you can also buy a pair cheaply at about RM30-50 from bicycle shops. Convenient and space saving when your foldies are folded for storage or transport.HOWEVER, (this is my personal feel) they felt abit wobbly and not so confidence inspiring when pedalling or standing on pedals. so i went and bought a platform pedal that has wider footprints, it felt much more stable than folding pedals, and more comfortable compared to the metal pedal on my wife's stock Java Fit. |

QUOTE(H2D @ Feb 28 2014, 03:03 AM) 90 psi is a lot of pressure Dunno, the marker on the sidewall indicated 80-100psi. I took the middle path to be safe, so it is 90psi. Plus, the petrol station punya air pump are always rated higher than what it actually pumps in. I selected 37psi but when counter checked with a gauge after pumping, only 34.5psi.it might be right for 100kg rider.... otherwise u will get bone jarring ride... so if you select 90 on the pump, maybe you'd get around 85. My wife commented that it is less bumpy after we put in "90"psi after i realised that her tyres has been pretty under-inflated all this while. |

Hi Sifu Etigge, thanks for advice. Didn't know that it is higher spec-ed. The ride is solid. The other parts other than the pedal that I really like to change is the RD and shifter. The level 1 and 2 not shifting smoothly. Took it back to Kimbell to tune the RD. But after a few rides, the problem came back again. Worry once I change the RD and shifter, I need to change the cassette, chainset and grip too. Don't know what else must change together bcos of the compatibility issue. Any recommendation and how much would it cost? Kimbell have a pair of Shimano Tiagra shifter. Trying not to spend too much on upgrading bcos I might as well get another bike. BTW saw the Birdy Disc at GW. Very tempted to buy. Also considering Tern Verge X-10 but don't like the white colored saddle and grip. Performance will be better if you change the rear derailleurs though and also trigger shifters shifts better than grip shifts. Tiagra shifters are 10 speed road bike shifters and unless you are prepared to change the whole set up, it won't work on the existing set up. Yours are only 8 speed now. I have a set of old 8 speed triggers (one side ), RD and adapter. If you want to upgrade, let me know. Just message me. |

FRIM under highway threat
KUALA LUMPUR: The largest and oldest man-made tropical forest in the world is under threat by a proposal to build an elevated highway across it, said Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) director-general, Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod on Saturday. “We will fight to the end against such a move, which is detrimental for the many endangered plant species within the grounds. “If this buffer zone for endangered plant species is damaged, where else can we keep them? FRIM is a national and natural heritage and any threat to it must be fought,” he told reporters after a media appreciation ceremony on Saturday. Dr Abd Latif said the issue first arose when he was approached by a group, whom he declined to name, in February last year, suggesting that FRIM be “split in half” for the highway construction. He said that this could be because FRIM, which spans 544.3ha, was under single ownership after receiving its freehold land title from the Selangor government in 2007, making it easier for negotiations. “But they forget that FRIM is now under Selangor and not Kuala Lumpur. Selangor is a state that does not allow logging because it depends on business and commercial activities (for income),” he said. Dr Abd Latif said they had assumed the proposal was set aside after FRIM handed the group a petition which showed 99% of its personnel were against the plan. However, he said he was informed earlier this week that the proposal had now been taken to “higher authorities”. Dr Abd Latif also thanked the media for constantly providing public awareness on environmental issues as well as highlighting FRIM’s work. “Many of the awards we have received is mainly due to the media exposure given to us. The value and impact of your reports have helped FRIM maintain our position as a tropical forest research institute that is known worldwide,” he said. Among the media recognised by FRIM were The Star journalists Tan Cheng Li and Isabelle Lai for their respective reports last year on Merapoh, Pahang and Gunung Kanthan, Perak, as well as StarMetro section for its support for FRIM activities. FRIM’s Kepong campus, renowned for being a model of successful reforestation, was established in the 1920s and recognised as a natural heritage in 2009 and national heritage in 2011. It is working to attain Unesco World Heritage Status by 2017. Source: http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014...M-Under-threat/ |

Hi all,
What is your preferable choices for front light? Over 500 lumen or below? Some suggested if too high, it will blindes other road user. Some suggested use mini torclight with bracket. Way cheaper than branded bike light |

QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Mar 3 2014, 08:00 AM) Hi all, IMHO I won't spend too much on front lighting unless you are going into trekking. I guess most of us are leisure cyclist and would prefer to cycle in a bright area. Thus, lighting are the extra precautions that we take for others to see us. Therefore, it is something that we must have though. Cheaper ones will do but prefer those that have blinking function. What is your preferable choices for front light? Over 500 lumen or below? Therefore, it is something that we must have though. Cheaper ones will do but prefer those that have blinking function. Even those RM5 ones from Daiso have blinking functions. If you are near Pasar Road, KL, there are many sellers there. The holders are only RM3 to RM5 and the torchlights as low as RM10. There some nice rechargeble ones too. It is also good to have a blinking small light on the front handle bar.The budget depends on your needs. I sometimes ride in the dark, very dark so I need something bright. Mine and wife's are 780 lumens but usually we set at quarter power only for longer use. Only in certain dark stretches we hit the full power. I used to use the ones with external batteries but has since changed to internal one as it is bothersome to have another bag on the handlebar. At least use a cat eye. Saves the trouble of buying again and again if using the cheap ones. |

Not allowed to ride without helmet ok la BUT no official event jersey also not allowed to participate cannot accept lo. Why must force to pay for participation as this is a fun ride and not a race? This event is suppose to be organised in conjunction with Malaysia’s 56th National Day Celebration. It should be those who want the goodie bag then pay lo. Else they prefer not to then no need lo. |

Some suggested if too high, it will blindes other road user. Some suggested use mini torclight with bracket. Way cheaper than branded bike light i never have a chance to hold or test anything above 400 lumen led touch light yet ... btw i test lumen by lumen tester from hella beam + lumen detector, not by eye .... any one kind enough to borrow his +500 lumen led touch ? |

Go up just for the sake of registering and then go again for the event? Doesnt seem viable. Anyway i guess i'll take the risk of ghosting. I have no intention on the goodies or shirts. I just wana have an excuse to ride once on the bridge and that's it, not like wana do it again after that one time anyway,.for those who interested can still register but u have to do it manually. go to their office (bicycle town) penang. they closed at 5pm. online registration already tutup. |

Guys,
I am new to the folding scene and i read through some of the notes in V2 and now V3. I am on the big size and weigh 105 kg, i have used my bro's Dahon in the ride of silence with no issues. Now i plan to get one my self for "mostly" the same reason some of you have. 1. Portability 2. Ease of use 3. For the wife to use but, since i am buying i get to pick 4. Itchy just to get one I have narrowed down to the following : 1. Java Fit 22" 16S-D (From GW Cycle Boutique) 2. Java Mini Velo (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=591425014239724&set=a.591424960906396.1073741829.591173320931560&type=1&theater_ My question is, is there any guys here in Lowyat with my weight riding the above mentioned selection ? I am looking at budget of around RM 2400.00 Seeking advice from some of the experts in this forum. This post has been edited by jeisern: Mar 6 2014, 02:46 PM |

Option 1 if your wife will be the "primary" rider and u just cycle occasionally over short distance. if you're considering one for yourself, maybe a mtb or bigger size 24" foldie might be a better and safer option. |

They do have bigger 451 tires with more treads. Although choice is limited, they do have. If you ever want to change from a 451 to a 406 wheelset, let me know. I will be glad to change it with you. I have an unused 406 wheelset. height also plays a role when comes to riding mini velo as the geometry is more sportier...hence the golden rule, test ride first to make sure you can handle the bike comfortably especially at higher speed or steep descend. |

I have ridden Jave side by side on my 4 days trip to Penang and although the rider was strong and fast, the folding is really terrible though. The fold is thick and bulky and also the handle bar is meddling with the fold. Just visit Pedalsport and they have 2 units folded there and yopu can see the bulkiness. I have never mentioned because I really did not see it folded before and now that I did, it became another disadvantage over tha few others! As for the Jave foldies, it's quite popular among a few lady riders in Penang. |

Yes, because java's handlebar stem fold outside the body instead of over inside the body as with the norm of most other foldies.

Last week I bought my KHS foldies for flat tyre repair at shop. The shop owner said my stock wheelset is a cheap one. He recommend me to upgrade. After upgrade the wheelset will have better sound during rotation.
I would like to check here anybody upgrade their stock wheelset? What other advantage? 1. Sound 2. smoother bearing - less power loss 3. Faster spinning 4. Rim is more center?? My stock spinning wild a bit even after truing. 5. Etc... Thanks |

Thanks Some like the ratcheting sound of the hub, some don't but it is not in any way better. As for no.2, check if yours is a seal bearing hub, if it is, no point changing but then again, Shimano have never used seal bearings right from their low end till the XTRs and Dura Aces and they are performing well. Reason is, easier to actually service and maintain more regularly. But on the same note, I think KHS wheelsets uses 32 holes hub (pls check) and if it is, I think it is easier to just change hubs as 32 holes are common and you can buy mountain bike or road bike hubs so easily here. PS/ Also KHS uses the standard 100mm front hubs. So much cheaper if just get a used seal bearing hub from BBs and relace the rims. Faster spinning depends mainly on your legs and also the condition of your hubs. Rim dishing (centering) is the adjustments of the spokes and not the design of the rims or hubs. It's spinning wild means it is badly trued or else your rims 'bengkok' already! Etc.etc. too This post has been edited by etigge: Mar 7 2014, 12:47 PM |

As for me to avoid ass pain, I would tend to shift my ass to another position at the saddle once I feel uncomfortable rather than just sitting still n cycle. Currently cycle abt 15km each session n no pain. Maybe this distance is too short for me to get an ass pain. Is it normal? Alternatively get a gel or foam seat cover. Plus, practise to sit towards the back of the seat instead of the long thin nose. Not good for our sperm count, i was told.Is it normal? Hi guys, just curious that any of you have a recommended grip pedals for folding bike? I'm currently using the original folding pedals when I first bought my dahon boardwalk and it tends to slip most of the time.
I'm not keen for the one with clip but just a one with "claw" that could grip my shoe better. |

Want to buy a foldable bike - checked out rodalink and they had dahon, tern and lerun. they handed me a tern brochure and the bike's all look the same - but the price seems a bit expensive for dahon and tern.
I did an online research and realised there are even more brands - lerun, trinx, giant, ori, hasa, birdy, java, doppleganger, volcano - how do I pick?! - The person riding won't be very tall - around 5 feet and a female - just starting out and wants to ride for recreation and exercise but wants to explore more things - wants the bike to be portable and to fit in the boot of her myvi - obviously the most affordable but then it depends - if it rides well, then the person will want to ride more and if it doesn't ride as well, then they will ride it less - riding on roads and maybe slight terrain - easy to fold - light - portable - may want to take it on travels How do I pick? What do you suggest? This post has been edited by pigduck: Mar 10 2014, 12:28 AM |

The last 5 rides of the Penang trip we did, there were 2 retired Cikgus who uses it with no problems as it is compact enough to put into IKEA bags! ![]() This post has been edited by etigge: Mar 10 2014, 10:34 AM |

In Malaysia they swapped the Marathons for the Rotolos, to cut the selling price a bit. OK larr! for a Vector frame. It's the top level frame from Dahon at a cheaper price. In fact you should have got 2 Vigors instead of another choice. Marathon Plus comes in 2 forms, one is the wire ribbed for OEM which are heavier and the ones sold separately are those folded ones which are much lighter and better. |

hey all
finally got myself a Boardwalk D8 too a couple of weeks ago... a good ride, though looking at a few upgrades to improve comfort/ergonomics: - saddle to a comfier one - the handlebar is slightly too close to the saddle to my liking.. looking to get one of those litepro handlebar stems to push the the handlebar in front a bit - probably switch to bigger tyres (Schwalbe BA maybe?). lot of bumps and hardened concrete on the roads in my area - to change the grips. however as the Boardwalk comes with a twist shifter, looks like i have to change that first.. is it possible to use another brand 8-speed shifter (e.g. shimano) to go with the Neos RD? longer-term upgrades would probably be to increase the gears to at least 16 speeds.. struggling with 1st gear up hills, and 8th gear is not fast enough going downhill.. but as that might be costly, i may as just save up for a better bike in the future |

This bike is built better than XDS 20 inch counterparts. Whether you can ride long distances depends on the rider. The last 5 rides of the Penang trip we did, there were 2 retired Cikgus who uses it with no problems as it is compact enough to put into IKEA bags! ![]() QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Mar 10 2014, 09:11 AM) See ur budget Rodalink is quite expensive isn't it? QUOTE(pigduck @ Mar 10 2014, 12:23 AM) Want to buy a foldable bike - checked out rodalink and they had dahon, tern and lerun. they handed me a tern brochure and the bike's all look the same - but the price seems a bit expensive for dahon and tern. Hi, if you find Dahon and Tern to be a bit expensive then Brompton will be expensive for you. Brompton look is classic. Like it or hate it. This post has been edited by hsiman: Mar 11 2014, 03:34 PM |

A fellow rider bought this MIT folding bike which resembles a Brompton but it is not a Brompton. It's sold in Singapore for S$1699 but this one is brought in from Thailand which cost less, RM2700 after conversion. Although there are some flaws, it can be remedied, that's why it was brought to me. I improve on the rear latch so it will latch properly and release properly, else it was falling off everytime the bike is carried!
Also it has been modded to 16 speed already, using 55T/44T chainrings while the rear is modded to Shimano Tiagra RD. Originally it came with grip shift which the riders says is spraining his palm twisting it. Like the Brommie, the wheels are smaller. It folds real small like a Brompton but I can't fold it now as he has put too many items on his handlebar ![]() ![]() |

Here in Malaysia, so far the usual models are the top end model which is 6 speed and it's almost 7K. Many says they are snobbish, hahaha but not my few fellow riders. Just that we don't comment on other rider's ride, be it a Trinx or an Alex Moulton. We just ride together. Sometimes I hear them complaining about parts and servicing though and also their tires and tubes are always out of stock! it is like having a ferrari but no much workshop can service it in Malaysia. Spare parts might be an issue. Some might afford to buy but may not well verse in doing self-servicing. So i go to learn how to do it, at least the basic one. No doubt you can get from HK and UK cheaper after you get the VAT refund, if you can claim the VAT. Either you are going there coincidentally for business trip or holiday, then it is good idea to get one. But purposely fly there, nevertheless, this is what i found from Brompton Support: QUOTE We only sell our bikes through specialist bicycle retailers, partly because we believe that there is no substitute for proper advice at the point of sale, but also because we consider it essential that our bikes are properly serviced by qualified mechanics. The maintenance needs of a Brompton are much the same as those of any conventional, fixed-frame bike. Every Brompton dealer should carry a minimum complement of spare parts and be able to handle most of the servicing that a Brompton may require over the course of its working life. Very occasionally, repairs or servicing may be required that are beyond the facilities of a typical dealership; nevertheless, such off-site work will be arranged through the dealer as well. We cannot accept delivery of bicycles for servicing direct from the public, even for substantial repairs or warranty claims. By handling relations with the public, our dealers allow us to focus on our manufacturing operations while offering the public the best service possible. Source : https://brompton.zendesk.com/entries/216972...ing-information QUOTE Certain items on any bicycle take time to bed in; to avoid damage, these need attention soon after you have bought the bike. The dealer that sold you your bike will be happy to perform this first important service without charge, however, it must be redeemed within three months of purchase; they will pay particular attention to the following items: -Spokes The tension of the spokes should be checked and adjustments made to suit. If a spoke becomes loose for any reason, neighbouring spokes will be carrying extra load and may fail. -Crank Axle Bolts & Pedals These must be checked for tightness. The correct torque is 30NM (the thread for the LH pedal is left hand). If these items work loose, the aluminium cranks will almost certainly become irretrievably damaged. -Cables Although the cables are pre-stretched, inevitably there is further initial stretch. As this affects hub-gear control, the gears should be checked for correct adjustment. It's well worth setting the brakes at the same time. Source : https://brompton.zendesk.com/entries/216978...00-mile-service This can be a good reason why it is better to buy locally. Anything goes wrong within 3 months, you can get the dealer to repair without charge. Or you prefer to send to HK where you got it from? Brompton comes with reputation (honoured with 2 Queen's award), i hope the dealers wont screw up their reputation.. haha This post has been edited by zeliustitan: Mar 11 2014, 04:06 PM |

Went to Rodalink today and saw the following:-
- Verge X10 (sweet and light but so expensive!) - Tern C7 (2014 - has a rack and is affordable - heavier than Vigor P9 but it looks nice) - Dahon Vigor P9 (2014 - very nice and comes with bike pump, nice body but quite expensive) - Dahon Visc P18 (2014 - same as Vigor P9 but a little rougher) - Dr Hon Boardwalk D8 (2013 - affordable and classic look) I'm not sure if I should spend over RM2000 for a bike even though I find the Vigor P9 and Visc P18 light. So far I like the Tern C7 and the Dahon P9 but then was looking at other bikes online tonight and the TRS and Trinx bikes are cheaper. I find the Doppelganger bikes nice and affordable also. I might want a Doppelganger - it looks nice. The thing is, I could go for the trusted Tern/Dahon but wonder what about other brands. Thoughts? Think my budget is ~RM800-1500 - not sure whether I'll really ride around - the incentive of buying an expensive bike would force me to go riding but then again, since I'm just starting out, I'm not sure. True - parts are important - that's why Dahon and Tern seem the easiest - what about XDS and TRS?

If there is, then you can install disx brakenormal brake and disc brake diff.. disc brake more grippy IMO |

QUOTE(pigduck @ Mar 12 2014, 01:05 AM) dahon and tern..u get more choices in accessories especially racks, luggage truss if u plan to go touring or ride long distance in the future.not sure bout XDS and TRS...there are also similar brands in your price range such as LG, Oyama, Hasa, Java, Trinx, GTA, Raleigh,Le Run, Mongoose,KHS... usually for this segment..pretty straight forward. choose the spd, frame design and colour that you like. all also lebih kurang sama...down to personal preference and your budget in the end. I won't mind a hydraulic disc brake but I don't trust a mechanical disc brake (cable actuated brake). In a disc brake the braking surface is only 6 to 8 inch in diameter while the braking surface of the V-brake is 20 inch in diameter. Also there is also the characteristics of both type of brake. I like to feel the braking and with V-brakes you can feel it and also the modulation and feel of a V-brake is more. Ever wonder why a real touring bike never uses disc brake? |

Also there is also the characteristics of both type of brake. I like to feel the braking and with V-brakes you can feel it and also the modulation and feel of a V-brake is more. Ever wonder why a real touring bike never uses disc brake? bicycle hydraulic disc brake real advantage is the braking power in all weather condition ..which is applicable only if you are hardcore cyclocross and mtb. Disc brake is easier than v brake which nid to set-up n tune n will run out of balance. Oso it is easier n faster to remove the wheels, now road bikes are getting disc brake n soon a lot will b using it...

Yes, road bikes are going that way and the manufacturers are getting it sanction as well. Then again I have nothing against disc brakes which are hydraulic actuated as in the disc brakes researched by Shimano and they are Ultegra level and above. They won't be using mechanical disc brakes for road bikes. We are speaking of disc brakes used in folding bikes which are ALL mechanical and cheap sets! It is actually now cheaper to use disc brakes than to use V-brakes due to the large scale manufacturing for disc brakes. It is also hard to come by a good V-brakes now. You only need to carefully adjust all angles for V-brakes in particular as dishing of the wheels are paramount for even braking. Sadly this is never done by bike shops, they rather just adjust the distance of the brake pads regardless of the wheel dishing and also the they are never parrallel to the rims. It all comes to the bike tech! |

Last is a 39T chainring to add onto your existing crank and chainring. So, all the needed item is in red! |

QUOTE(sepat @ Mar 13 2014, 04:19 PM) There's a black Dahon Visc P18 in Kimbell Jaya. Difference though when you upgrade a Vigor is you will get the better Dalloy Vector frame but off course the price is about 1K higher than a Visc P18 after modding. When I had the Vigor (mine traded off already with a Dahon Dash P18), I followed the Vector P20 specs. I change the drive train to SRAM X5 just like the Vector P20 use. Effectively it becomes the Vector P20 which cost slightly over RM4000 locally.Mine was, RM2000 for the bike, another RM800 for the SRAM X5 cassette, chain, X5 RD, X5 shifters and SRAM Apex FD. Add in another RM160 for the FD adapter and RD hanger. Total cost less than RM3000 plus also the old 9 speed components can be sold to offset a few hundred Ringgit. So, roughly about RM2600 for the Dahon Vector P20. |

I can get the SRAM parts at the price mentioned. Yes, after modding it, it's the same specs as the Vector P20. 2 X 10 speed. If you go to V2, there's a picture of the Vigor modified there. When I traded the Vigor for the Dash, the whole groupset is taken out and it is now on the Dash (which is really not my choice as I wanted Shimano 105). If you are interested, I can transfer all the SRAM X5 to your bike, off course it will be cheaper larr. Do you sell and install parts as well? Or any friend's shop you recommend most? QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Mar 13 2014, 11:24 PM) Hard to say now, many of the parts are discontinued already like the Sora triple chainring crank and the LX RD. The Boardwalk is modded gradually and it's almost over 3K plus the bike itself. |

Interesting. I have been looking up on bikes and these 14-16" bikes seem lighter. So what I need to do is get one with good gears. Is that upgradeable?

QUOTE(sepat @ Mar 14 2014, 12:51 PM) i would take your advice dont worry seems you know every single things about bicycle.. To chip in my opinion on gear upgrading. I assumed the no.1 reason of upgrading from 8/9 speed to 21++ speeds is to help climbing. I am in the opinion that such thinking/rationale may not necessary 'sound'. The OEM 8/9 speed in most cases are sufficient for normal climbing fits for what the original intention of the bike is for. Sure, if one to take his/her folding bike to Genting and the like, he/she may finds 8/9 speed is insufficient. The question is how likely are you going to ride on Genting-like road? Even you do so (like more of the advanced cyclists), more gearing can only helps you to certain level, your up right seating geometric is 'hindering' your climbing efficiency, you will still find yourself struggling. If your are not struggling, it is likely that the climb is not steep enough and the regular 8/9 speed with reasonable fitness would just do the job fine (if you are not reasonably fit you probably won't attempted to steep climb type of ride). In the 'normal' outing rides, even there are some parts that are steep, it usually just a short climb, you can just tahan a bit and ride over it.In most of the situation, 8/9 speed can climbs but what is lacking is the flat road speed. Therefore, instead of looking at increasing more speed, it make sense to have a bigger crank set, like 52T for the flat road speed. Frankly, easily 80-90% of the ride are on flat road. Make sense? |

There are some points in your comment but it takes many types of riders to make a community just the same as there are many types of people in this world. But I will start with why I always mod my foldie to the max, especially on the drive train. In most of the situation, 8/9 speed can climbs but what is lacking is the flat road speed. Therefore, instead of looking at increasing more speed, it make sense to have a bigger crank set, like 52T for the flat road speed. Frankly, easily 80-90% of the ride are on flat road. Make sense? Once you join a group or groups and ride very frequently, you most definitely will improve and the rides will even be longer. If you say extra gears is not really a rational or sound moves, I will beg to differ in my case. The rides I ride with a few groups may last the whole day and in some occasion continuous 3 days. When I was riding Genting Peras, I started with an Eco C7 and the amount of effort to ride up , it's possible but it's also killing. Sometimes, when we are tired, we just need to 'cruise uphill'. We need to rest our legs a bit although we are still riding uphill. So we tend to ride easy but it is slow. We are like resting but still moving. If we are still on 8/9 gears, we have to stop as the lowest ratio, we still need to push hard! So, if we stop and rest, our muscles will relax and it will be hard to start again. To sum it all, I have 3 chain rings on my Speed and 2 chain rings on my Dash. BUT I use the biggest most of the time and very rarely I use smaller chain ring (this concurs to your comments) BUT I also need the smaller chain ring there, just in case. Least but not least, there's a reason why folding bike companies comes out with 18 speed and even 30 speed folding bikes. It's just that, you need to figure out WHY do you need the foldie for? Off course if it is just to ride around the park and sweat it out, a single speed would suffice already. If you go on long rides, unfamiliar routes, the more gears I have the better prepared I am for it! |

QUOTE(etigge @ Mar 17 2014, 07:11 AM) There are some points in your comment but it takes many types of riders to make a community just the same as there are many types of people in this world. But I will start with why I always mod my foldie to the max, especially on the drive train. i second you etigge .. it's like a preparation for your foot just in case you encounter such obstacles which your kaki not ready for that amount of energy to climb up .. If you go on long rides, unfamiliar routes, the more gears I have the better prepared I am for it! anyway every cyclists have their own preference and bike setup .. such comments above are positive and based on your cycling experiences .. so i would use and consume those inputs to get the best for the bike.. and of course lah stamina is necessary not just the bike only thank you for the pleasant reply |

Hi guys
Heard of Volt? I saw it at the bike shop in Damansara Utama. It's quite nice and light. It comes with front and back racks. It's ~RM1550. It's 8 speed. The tires are quick release so it's easy to pack away. See the link http://www.voltbicycle.es/ Do you think this is better than Tern Link C7? |
