hi,
i am currently using kenda kriterium 20x1 tyres and notice they wear out pretty fast to a point that even small stones can easily break through and puncture the tube.
can anyone share their experience with 451 tyres or any good recommendation for a more durable model? and also which shops might stock them.

Guys,

I am new to the folding scene and i read through some of the notes in V2 and now V3.

I am on the big size and weigh 105 kg, i have used my bro's Dahon in the ride of silence with no issues.

Now i plan to get one my self for "mostly" the same reason some of you have.

1. Portability
2. Ease of use
3. For the wife to use but, since i am buying i get to pick tongue.gif
4. Itchy just to get one

I have narrowed down to the following :

1. Java Fit 22" 16S-D (From GW Cycle Boutique)
2. Java Mini Velo (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=591425014239724&set=a.591424960906396.1073741829.591173320931560&type=1&theater_

My question is, is there any guys here in Lowyat with my weight riding the above mentioned selection ?

I am looking at budget of around RM 2400.00

Seeking advice from some of the experts in this forum.

Buying for wife but setting your own weight as main criteria? hmm.gif

Option 1 if your wife will be the "primary" rider and u just cycle occasionally over short distance.
if you're considering one for yourself, maybe a mtb or bigger size 24" foldie might be a better and safer option.

Hehehe....bro, well i have a KHS All Season 3000 - Fatboy Bike, but this is an extra ma...

Anyway, if pass my weight criteria sure, pass my wife, she only 51 kg....so no issues hehehe

Primary Rider is very subjective, most likely is me...

Though i need to ask, i thought the Velo would be better since no folding contraption so the frame would be stronger ?
*
mini velo frame will be sturdier but they usually comes in narrow 451 wheels flavour. If you can squeeze in 406 rims with wider tyres then that might do the trick. should also consider a more reputable brand since the frame strength and QC is quite important here.
height also plays a role when comes to riding mini velo as the geometry is more sportier...hence the golden rule, test ride first to make sure you can handle the bike comfortably especially at higher speed or steep descend.

I thank you so much for the replies, after researching for a bit i settled for the KHS F20 T3F.

Mainly due to my concern on weight, so i took a chormoly frame body.

Picture a bit too big sorry, so i put spoiler.

True - parts are important - that's why Dahon and Tern seem the easiest - what about XDS and TRS?
*
dahon and tern..u get more choices in accessories especially racks, luggage truss if u plan to go touring or ride long distance in the future.
not sure bout XDS and TRS...there are also similar brands in your price range such as LG, Oyama, Hasa, Java, Trinx, GTA, Raleigh,Le Run, Mongoose,KHS... usually for this segment..pretty straight forward. choose the spd, frame design and colour that you like. all also lebih kurang sama...down to personal preference and your budget in the end.

Either disc brakes or V-brakes( the other kind of brake system) has it advantages and disadvantages. It's hard to get a very good V-brakes though but me, I prefer V-brakes as maintenance is much easier and also if you get a good one, it performs better than a disc brake. I won't mind a hydraulic disc brake but I don't trust a mechanical disc brake (cable actuated brake). In a disc brake the braking surface is only 6 to 8 inch in diameter while the braking surface of the V-brake is 20 inch in diameter.

Also there is also the characteristics of both type of brake. I like to feel the braking and with V-brakes you can feel it and also the modulation and feel of a V-brake is more. Ever wonder why a real touring bike never uses disc brake?

agree with sifu etigge also. heard so many bad stories of newbies going downhill with disc brakes on their foldie. when panic, they squeeze the calipers too hard which lock up both tires. imagine the horror of kena buang/endo or getting drag along with your bike down the slope.
bicycle hydraulic disc brake real advantage is the braking power in all weather condition ..which is applicable only if you are hardcore cyclocross and mtb.

When i decided to go for folding bike my intention was to have something compact, easier to transport and of course fun of riding it. As of now yes i really enjoy riding this bike and eager to explore what sort of enhancement this bike can go. Looking at its size i know it cannot par with mtb or road bike  but i really want to explore the potential of this bike can deliver. It is like turbo car ..the torque and hp will depend on the turbine and other mechanical parts which help to achieved the desired HP ...  nod.gif     But sometimes if the setup  is not engage accordingly the car with hundred ponnies also surprisingly kena tapau with small cubics. Maybe i am too ambitious since this is my first bicycle since i was in primary but your input will always welcome for me to analyse and execute  thumbup.gif

hahaha.. rclxms.gif i like that way u think but let's not get too carried away here.bicycle burns on fat not fuel. hence to truly unleash your ride's potential really depends more on your engine as the rider.
i believe it will be more satisfying if u can tapau those roadies or mtbs on the road using your existing setup. stock vigor p9 is already a very nice package and target bike for some of us here. thumbup.gif

Went bike shop ask about Tiagra rd , they told me new Tiagra is 10speed ask me take Sora
*
sora won't be much of an upgrade. might as well top up for a complete 10spd and lighter group set.
if on tight budget..10spd microshift arsis components + shimano 105 cassette is pretty decent value for the amount of weight saved.

V brake or disc brake better...my uncle said he bought a TRS folding bike with disc brake for rm500 whereas mine is dahon visc with v brake. Why I'm paying premium price get lower quality brakes. Got such saying one?
*
Mcm buying car. Proton with 4 disc brakes all around or Toyota vios E but with rear drum brakes? Both also perform the same basic function.down to individual preference and budget.
