QUOTE(Ghosthunter @ Feb 23 2014, 02:47 AM) Hi, Oh that wasn't me, we were a group of 3 adult dudes. I was there around 8.30pm to maybe 11pm. i was at Putrajaya too, trying out my new foldie... Were you with the group of cyclists with kids, adults ? @danieltwl: Me n my mates are looking to check out Ara Damansara or Bukit Cahaya (not night ride) perhaps this weekend or so but if we go Putrajaya again we'll let u know Paging for fellow fake china Hummer users. Do you guys have this problem with the top tube quick release skewer? The one that holds the folding mechanism together, mine is like crooked after a couple of rides Has anyone replaced this with some other quick release skewers? I think it should be a standard 5mm skewer from the front or the rear wheel |

QUOTE(Ghosthunter @ Feb 27 2014, 11:01 PM) Good bike, fast , so far no problems. This Saturday I'll be heading to Bukit Cahaya but in the morning, but will most likely go Putrajaya again on the evening of 8th March (next Saturday). But if got more cash, Dahon has better reputation and costs appx 2.4K.. Me, since i have a MTB, i didnt want to spend more, So far Java is good and fast.. But if you get one, try the thicker tires .. Cheers Anyone cycling at Putrajaya this Saturday evening?.. Plse post here time and place, perhaps others may want to join.. Thanks |

Well I ride a China Hummer. Got it for 850 bucks
Although is china fake, some say the difference in material is that original Montague is using 7005 aluminium which is stronger and lighter, while china Hummers are using 6061 aluminium with maybe less sophisticated welding methods. Other than this, some other differences i can notice is - Original Montague uses CLIX quick release, can operate with one hand, china Hummer uses regular 9mm QR - Some parts are covered and sealed off in original Montague so water kenot masuk, same part in china Hummer is exposed (see comparisons here : http://www.zhuangbei2012.com/survival_equi...e-montague.html - Original Montague supports V n disc brakes I think, China Hummer only disc brakes. Other than this, I don't see much difference. The specs for the other components for Montague u can find online, for my China Hummer I've noticed the following: - Saddle, fork, handler bar, seat post, wheels i dunno what brand, can't locate. - Cassette and RD, shifter + brake lever is Shimano Tourney - Brakes itself are of Repute, some china brand - Front crankset I think is Sunwheel or something - FD is Microshift. What I like about the Montague/Hummer design is it doesn't break the top tube in half. I can say it's good enough for most trails in Msia (but maybe not downhill). I've fallen off the bike a few times and tried stupid stunts also still ok LOL. Recently upgraded some components and rides even better now. For the Ranger ... i find that a big load of BS LOL if it's 6k original price it had better come with at least SLX groupset and Rockshox fork! QUOTE(desastar @ Jun 4 2014, 12:43 PM) crankset usually no need to replace, but upgrading from 7-speed to 8/9/10 usually needs more parts to be changed because 7 speed rear sprocket mostly uses freewheel mechanism whereas 8 speed onwards are mostly freehub, that means u need to change:- shifter - rear hub - cassette - RD - chain how did I know? I upgraded from 7 speed to 9 speed rear sprocket and it costs me as much as the bike itself LOL so yeah, get 8 speed onwards better. Easier to upgrade. Honestly for folding bikes i don't think there's much use for 3 chainrings at the front. 3 chain rings would be something like 24T smallest? I have 24-34-44T on my 26" foldie and I have never even used the smallest one before, middle chainring 34 with rear cog 32T is already super light and I've used that only a handful of times at extreme hills like Bukit Cahaya.
With a 20" wheel and 24T front chainring you'll pedal like mad but the bike will hardly move, if that's the case you're probably better off getting down the bike n push Get something with 2 chainring max is enough. If u're ok with 1 chainring even better, less weight and less complications This post has been edited by 180jin: Jun 6 2014, 02:35 PM |

QUOTE(jenli_84 @ Jun 15 2014, 01:56 PM) V brake or disc brake better...my uncle said he bought a TRS folding bike with disc brake for rm500 whereas mine is dahon visc with v brake. Why I'm paying premium price get lower quality brakes. Got such saying one? Because there are such things as good V brakes and crappy disc brakes... but i think ur case, as H2D said .... because it's Dahon LOL |

yup 7 speed is mostly freewheel, not freehub with cassettes, i also kena this and have to buy new wheelset to mod up to 9 speed cassette.
Anyway, my friends' XDS or Java Fit has 52T biggest chainring and 11T smallest rear cog, so that's road bike gears already, but it'll not be as fast due to 20" wheels. Then again as desastar said u won't feel comfortable even if u can go fast simply because the geometry (especially the smaller wheels) are not designed to go at road bike speed. |

QUOTE(TheSecRet @ Jul 9 2014, 04:58 PM) Haha true. Original Paratrooper frame is made of 7005 aluminium, supposedly lighter. China copies are using 6061 aluminium, strength-wise seems the same but heavierAnyway i am planning the get the original paratrooper. Just wanted to do some research only haha. There's some link floating around comparing original Montague frame and china Hummer copy Best giveaway is probably that the original Hummer frame uses CLIX quick release while China hummer copies use just the normal 9mm QR from MTB front forks. |

QUOTE(budgee @ Jul 21 2014, 10:05 PM) ok ok.. you're right. It's not that the B can't be used for more than 10km daily, of course it can. Bro how did you manage the sweat problem? I'm planning to do that once I get my 20" foldie, but more of a cycle - bus - cycle thingy than full cycling. Expected to cover around 5km in total. Hopefully won't get too sweaty co's i dun wanna be spending time showering in office (eventhough they got facility)It depends on the cyclist. As it turns out, I was using a under-geared XDS FA 16 inch to cycle the 12km PJ- KL- PJ route and found that its still ok. Of course I would prefer the higher gearing on the more expensive bikes like the Brompton. So its a matter of budget and rider capability. Eventually, I use the 20 inch Tern to go the distance much faster. And probably by year's end, I will get the Brompton to ride daily to work. |
