Lenovo phones have lousy reliability issues. I have 2 units of P770 and in less than 3 months, 1 died of motherboard failure and another have faulty microphone. To claim warranty, need to wait 1 month plus.

well MTK chipset not that bad... better than i pay for my S3... Mobo faulty got it replaced and need about 10 days... frame cracks which they did not admit their fault, ask me to repair it with RM600... all those happen within 6 months... haha... i rather pay less than 1k then a problematic phone by Samsung...

BTW i'm waiting for this to come over... have S920 now...

after try out s890 and s920, this one will be the hit one IMO , main part is 4k mah and 5inch , bonus with quad core.

btw , this phone can do phone to another phone charging ( like P780 charge your S3 etc )

Custom Rom Choice : MIUI v5 available for this phone

I thought its on mtk6589 same like my A830 which on 3G data speed rch more than that, i think..
Looking at speedtest my umobile rch 7.59Mbps possibly higher if at better signal area. How?
Agreed that lte is next but its still limited area coverage.

Some may argued about Lenovo reliability but I personally thinks it more robust and better built compared to most makers. I was from higher end phone bought this a830 for temp use after sold my HO but later stuck to enjoy its long battery. I really not miss features offered of my former S4 nor HO. Those are premium but still slave to carry power bank. Ha.ha..

Btw, what's the expected retail price for A780?

I would have grabbed this p780 on impulse but price is still soo 'keras'. I guess wait a little while won't hurt since I'm still gud on my A830 which offers great endurance nevertheless.

S920 more metro looks but short of breath.
P780 more like kampong girl, can up down but still can perform..
Premium like S4 or HO like high class girl.. u become slave in order to enjoy features...
Just my 2Β’.

You are smart but lack info.. thumbup.gif
Pls dun compare local set with china set.
Direct import dun have playstore (why u may ask.. go google, u smart kan?). However if root and flash rom all playstore glory are avail.
Btw.. im using A830 china set with playstore insde.
Local set playstore included.

Where u got this info?
Based from experience?
I'm on MTK and was from S4 & HO. To be frank, I don't miss a thing other than better screen and camera. What I now enjoy most is loooonggg hrs of SOT.
P780 have similar chipset to what I using now A830 and therefore should not have much issue running most worthwhile apps. Again, Lenovo most likely have optimized its launcher and things alike.

I would love to get my hands on this P780 soon tho my A830 is still making me happy everyday for its 4000mAh awesome power.

Well the phone is made of metallic material so it is heavy and very sturdy...
the screen nice like S920 but a lil smaller, just nice for our hands to hold and can operate with single hand...
UI wise i can say it is smooth and well...
when i take the phone it has 49% of battery...
after i install my wanted apps and sync some others email and chatting apps...
use mybackup pro to send my settings, sms, mms and some other things over...
until now i still have 28% more to go...
i'll go drain all the battery before let it charge until tomorrow morning...
of course what makes me wanna get this instead of S920 is the battery...
S920 i can stand around 9 hours left around 20%... this i hope it can last me around 12 hours easily...

compare to S920 stylish, sleek and big, the P780 is very old skool design but it is sturdy and elegant...

smile.gif agree... had S3 and Pantech R3 which has smooth UI but it cos RM1300...
even though MTK quad core chipset does not have the matching performance but it is not far behind...
my S3 is not lag free, it freeze from time to time... it is the worst Top Range phone I ever use...
most common problem Cracked Frame, tried to claim but said user fault...
had a few colleagues and frens also has this problem...
even this problem has been highlighted since Jul 2012 but Samsung never come out and admit their problem...
laggy due to their firmware and also freezing problem is also related to their poor motherboard problem...
i had mine changed before i sold it...
please ask those ppl to google for S3 issues before say it is very good and problem free...

Hey Mike, I so envy u ady got ur P780. Wah u now got 2 lenovos = 4 phones. notworthy.gif

For Lenovo basher to be.. pls chk ur fab phone thread first b4 displaying ur 'awesomeness' here.
Fact.. this phone price compared to urs.
Fact.. how real life user satisfaction for ur fan phone then compare here.
If ur never use any Lenovo phone than u better keep ur comment to urself.

I'm one very satisfied Lenovo hp user. No, I don't get paid to say this. Just my personal experience. nod.gif

Oh.. btw, Samseng fanboys go play ur phone somewhere secluded coz its gonna hang soon and don't forget bring along power bank. whistling.gif

haha... Mat... no la... i'll pass the S920 to some one else...
i already chasing the guy since i got the S920...
i told him once the P780 arrive PM me the price and reserve 1 for me if not more than RM900...
i'm having 1 iPhone4 and 1 SE Xperia Ray to use also...
my gf have Sony Xperia SP... i would say SP also a good buy, battery can last... UI also very smooth did not notice slow down since 2 months ago...
with her daily usage, the SP can last from 7am till 6pm easily... if heavy gaming then she might need powerbank to standby after 6pm...

haha... Mat... no la... i'll pass the S920 to some one else...
i already chasing the guy since i got the S920...
i told him once the P780 arrive PM me the price and reserve 1 for me if not more than RM900...
i'm having 1 iPhone4 and 1 SE Xperia Ray to use also...
my gf have Sony Xperia SP... i would say SP also a good buy, battery can last... UI also very smooth did not notice slow down since 2 months ago...
with her daily usage, the SP can last from 7am till 6pm easily... if heavy gaming then she might need powerbank to standby after 6pm...

Wow! like that u may need a backpack to carry all phones.
For me 1 is OK, 2 gonna be a hassle and more is a burden.
Most of my old phones taken by family members except few I managed to quietly sell like my S4 & HO.
This A830 on 2sims is my daily driver for awhile now. Love it!
Now salivating P780.
The thought of backing up data, restoring, while I also afraid miss backup are holding me back for now.
Enjoy ur new toy.. not toy as of child toy can baling2 w/o crying. thumbup.gif

*
waiting for your comments abt battery few days later.. smile.gif but i like p780 design a bit more. S series design too much alike htc's...the only thing is the battery cannot remove like p770 sad.gif or else, it will be even better.. blush.gif
oh yeah..would you mind to tell me the scene mode inside p780? does it have remove the unwanted object mode as i saw in the ad for p780? and wat else it got inside the camera scene?

most of the time just 1 core is needed. the rest of the core just sit there waiting for thing to happen. most likely core 3 just fire 1% of the cpu time and core 4 almost never fire.

thats y an advanced chipset with dual core can be faster than a old generation quadcore. (remember intel vs amd's big bike vs tricycle?)

in benchmarks, all cores are used to achieve higher score.

i mean, during normal use of phone - call, browse internet, facebook, scroll screen etc, 2 core is more than enough.

very few application make full use of 4 cores.

Planning to get 1 soon but internal storage too low, split partition some more.
Any of you rooted to combine with ext sdcard?
No need custom rom just root with stock rom will do.
Btw, how much ram available after boot up, many bloatwares?
Oh yeah, actually not yet made up my mind either p780 or s820 both very similar hardware apart from LCD size, battery & camera, this phone is for my wife so what you guys advise, still weighing both phone features.

I still haven't got my P780 yet but using A830 which using same chip set so I assume it antutu benchmark similar. For reference and comparison.. RM700 vs RM1800 biggrin.gif
Oh btw, my RM700 got 2sims active while the RM1800 must use 2phones = RM3600 tongue.gif

Add : Cheap phone but very smooth as daily driver. My phone condition bit cacat since ady faceplant 2x on road. doh.gif but still can use.

Yes some ppl already tried on others phone like S920 and A830...
Combine around 3GB...
Actually I never see the free ram but should be more than 200MB, and it is smooth...
For P780 maybe it is a lil heavy for a lady cos it is 175g...
But for the same price, u get different camera, LCD size, and battery...
This applied to S920 also all three around 800-900 and same processor...

She is currently using sharp sh530u start to complain about internal storage full (2 partitions 2GB+ & 14GB+) & lags.
The 1st partition (phone memory) full but the other just 50% & most apps can be moved to 2nd (internal memory) as well, some can't like Facebook, chrome & few others.

S920 a bit larger but look nice, tried before smooth, like I said storage is split into 2, the phone memory is too small unless root & combine with ext storage (>4GB), or else same problem surely re-occur.
Anyway, my budget <1k that's why looking at Lenovo or else I would have bought others (Huawei P6, nexus 4 or S3).

Well depends on personal usage... if u wanna have bigger one then buy Xperia SP, skip S3 and others u mention there...
Bought 1 for my gf not long after the launch, no problem on laggy issue... and the speed and UI smoothness is one of the best for dual core device...
HuaWei chipset is not that fast...
S3 is having a lot of issues, Google for common S3 issue...
Nexus4 also not bad but not worth the money u paying...
Sony Xperia SP is around RM1.1k... so suits ur standard...

Would have taken Xperia SP if the screen at least 4.7".
Tested by wf she said too small.

So any of you guys rooted? There are guides for MTK6589 rooting (applicable to S920 also) & partition resizing.
Not sure can use same method for p780.

BTW some one is asking how many free RAM after start up... just now I double check it is around 40% means 400MB...

Ok after 2 days of weekend usage, or in more precise about 38 hrs my phone battery has drop to 6 percent...

Have to go thru few working days to get an answer how well it last my usage...

S3 and R3 I used to use 2 battery per day...

Just a suggestion...
GSam from playstore is an app I usually used sice it provides more accurate estimation based on average battery performance.
Maybe u can try that.

I think it is not overkill, it is a bonus and differentiator for this device. Battery is one of the major concern of smartphone users.

From my experience with S890 before, 1st SIM is 3G/2G enable, while 2nd SIM only 2G. Wonder if its the same for P780?

yes bro... same case...

My usage yesterday... impressive...
until yesterday 11 plus before i go to bed, it still have 30%...
call time around 1 hr+... rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif
at last i found a phone with GREAT stamina...
although the chipset is nothing to shout about... the UI does lag sometimes...
the internal memory is very lil, so i bought myself a 32GB card instead of using my old 16GB...
but i found it is reasonably priced just below RM900 and it did it's job well... thumbup.gif

battery charging -
must use a 2A charger, then can achieve 4000mah/2000ma = 2 hours

but if use normal kecik miao charger then is 4000mah/500ma = 8 hours

charging is slower when approaching 80% to preserve life of the battery. so actual charging is a bit longer.

Well to be Frank all android will be... u need to know when u need to clear off the cache.... that's all...
When the cache builded up already the system will be less responsive...
But fyi do not expect wonders from P780, cos the chipset of not that superior... it is a older generation of quad core tech...
I bought this becos of the battery which is very marvelous for me at least...
9 hrs plus... and now... refer to the stats below...

Very nice batt performance..
Just for comparison I include my latest GSam reading of my A830.
I duno but it seems this A830 with smaller batt perform almost similar feat. What ur guys think?

Heavy used= approx 8hrsSOT / 15hrs
Normal used = approx 7hrsSOT / 30hrs thumbup.gif

My A830 rooted 4.2.2 jack44.

go to apps manager... click on the app... then u have a clear data or clear cache button there...

clear data means it will erase your account info and stuff...
clear cache means it will erase photo or others data which the apps download from the internet and store within your device...

it just like computer... remember website password or account login and the seperate info like photo, link or others so call needed info to display the website on ur firefox or internet explorer...

planning to get one next week..just bought a706 for my gf last week, and it is awesome..at first i'm worried about the lack of internal storage, but it really didn't affect much..the dual sim also easy to use..

with the huge battery, double capacity compared to a706 i think the p780 price is reasonable..can't wait to buy it next week

Seriously thinking of getting this phone but no demo unit in stock to feel it.

Can anyone tell me if apps can be directly installed or move to the SD Card? Not the internal 4GB memory provided.

My friend bought the A706 but seems cannot move apps to the SD Card so worried the P780 also got this issue.

U set the battery mode to??? Do not set, make it customized...
I also thought like putting it at long or so but ready properly, it will disable something when screen off so pls ensure your battery profile setup does not affect it...

Pls refer to the tap at battery apps... if the lock screen network activity is on then it might affects the connection...

Hi. Just got my Lenovo P780 as well. Seems OK so far. Had mine shipped from China to Dubai...am a bit clueless about this and I feel an answer may be above but I can't really figure it out.
So:
Which would the best ROM be (easy on RAM, with Google Play)?
Does any one know if it is possible to use the 2G sim as the primary sim to make calls and send SMS and the 3G sim slot purely for data? I can't seem to find the options...

it is the 3g speed is limited to 7.2mbps?
*
to be fair on the testing u need to find a place where u have a strong signal...
and some more i have not do any testing on all my new phones on data speeds...

sorry i don really cares as our telco here can't gives u constant speed...
and furthermore i'm not using it to download any big files..
but i find downloading 1MB file near Sunway area is in decent speed... within 15 sec...
sometimes slow... i think u know what i mean... even SG telco can't promise u stable connection...

*
custom ROM on this phone is limited... but u can search around...

as for that it is under Settings > All Settings (TAB) > SIM Management
u can set primary Call and SMS to SIM2 and data for SIM1...

yes bro... same case...

My usage yesterday... impressive...
until yesterday 11 plus before i go to bed, it still have 30%...
call time around 1 hr+...  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif
at last i found a phone with GREAT stamina...
although the chipset is nothing to shout about... the UI does lag sometimes...
the internal memory is very lil, so i bought myself a 32GB card instead of using my old 16GB...
but i found it is reasonably priced just below RM900 and it did it's job well...  thumbup.gif

can use put 3G simcard, with no special data plan as SIM1? meaning that I will not use data plan at all, because very too costly. Or should I direct put this 3G simcard to SIM2?

Hi all. May I know the camera and music quality of this phone? Thanks.
*
Design - Industrial design without the bling2. Really macho black.
UI - Very smooth! Didn't notice any lag. Although I use Dodol launcher cause stock launcher icons not so nice.
GPS - Takes less than 2 minutes to lock.
RAM - Hovers around 50% - 80%.
Screen - Bright. Not sure whether its Gorilla Glass or not.
Gaming - Real Racing 3 not buttery smooth but totally playable. Dead Trigger buttery smooth.
Music & Speaker - Okay I think. Acceptable. Speaker is quite loud.
Camera - Launch almost immediately. Not really great pictures though. Undersaturated / washed out most of the times. And the stock camera app wont save any changes made. Everytime need to fiddle with the saturation setting b4 taking pictures. Need casing to protect the camera bezel because its a little protruding.
Scheduled power on & off works great! Can save battery even more!
Fast bootup although the bootup animation is a little loud.

Overall, I highly recommend this phone for everyone. For the price around RM800, nothing can beat this phone. Go find one!

haywire screen that you were experiencing might happen due to few factors such as :

1)non-original charger
2)not using wall socket (extension cable sometimes delivers unstable current flow)
3)low grade usb cable?

Another thing, my temperate is 45`C when charging from 15% to around 80% then the temperature drops back to around 37`C and it maintains at 37`C until it is charged to 100%. Is this normal again? I have one theory is that to prolong the battery life so that it doesn't overcharge, the battery is charged with high current at low percentage, afterwards it is a slow charge which results in that physical change in temperate that I observed. Can anyone confirm this?

BTW, how to take screenshot on this phone >.<?

Press Power and Down Volume Button together for a few sec... smile.gif
yes it is normal... it will start the slow charge from 80% to 99%... then it will begin another stage to reach 100% which is very very slow...

well u r not heavy user mostly will last you thru the day without hiccup...
if your usage is low... it can last 40 hours without problem... smile.gif
that is my weekend usage... weekdays normally u unplug around 7am when i reach home 7pm i still have 30~40%...
after that i tried before use it to play games, facebook and net surfing from 7pm until mdnite around 1am before it falls to 15%... sometimes it will last to 4am also haha...

my photos are shown in super gallery, videos are not coz they are rmvb files i guess, music are shown in play music, and all files are stored in external storage (memory card)

is play music app is the only bundled music player for this phone?

I tried b4 I asked. But the Helium app in my desktop says it can't detect my device even though I've connected it via cable. That's weird coz my desktop did detect my P780 and i can access my internal and external storage. So I was thinking that Helium might not support lenovo smart phones. I just want to restore my game data in my Nexus 7 to the phone. Not the apk apps. sad.gif Meh there are still a lot for me to learn.

What apps do you remove/move to sdcard to save space?

Depends on your card & your requirement.
To be safe at least 4GB combine with internal, roughly about 4.7GB but will not be shown in settings > storage.
You can view the balance in link2sd storage info

After you installed link2sd, link it to the partition created (ext 2 / ext 4 / fat), then restart.
Open link2sd again, use multi-select in settings, then select all & click action, in action menu, select create link, just press OK.
It will move all selected apps to 2nd partition.
Go to settings & select autolink , just tick on all the options.
That's it, the next time you install any apps, it will automatically store in the 2nd partition.
You will notice that even though many apps are installed, the internal memory still remain as though no new apps are added.

Alright, thanks for the clarification
So far so good, battery life is awesome (obviously)
Normal games running ok, 3D games like Asphalt 8 seems to lag
Not that I use it for gaming much, I've got ipad for that
Only problem I encounter with this phone is that I can't stream videos from my pc/nas
Even small sample clips still won't play, it just keeps on loading but nothing happens..

Has anyone here tried flashing MIUI rom?

still confusing. before set write disk to external storage, there are sdcard0 for internal memory and sdcard1 for MMC. And after set write disk to external, they just exchange the label, sdcard0 for MMC and sdcard1 for internal. other changes is only some applications lost. but my media files (photos, videos and music) at memory card still can't detected by supergallery, video apps and playmusic. already clear data on Media Storage and then rescan that, but still persist. any help please?

ps: moving music files to Music folder and then playmusic will detect it. moving photos to Picture folder also make supergallery detect it. but older photos from my older phone under folder DCIM>Camera and DCIM>100ANDRO still not detected by supergallery.

Took me a few seconds to get GPS lock, was surprised how fast it was since previous post mentioned it took less than 2 minutes to get GPS lock.

Btw, has anyone bought flipcover case for this phone and does it actually turn on/off the display?

Hi everyone. Just got my P780 today. Switching from my old Galaxy S2. Tired of the overheating battery and hangs. Btw, I am a bit confused abt the max sdcard capacity our phone can support. Some are saying 32gb while others are saying 64gb works too. Can anyone help clarify this? Is anyone here using a 64gb sdcard? Thanks guys!

there isn't any official accessories for this i think...
the problem is u need official accessories to make this happen...
i do not think any 3rd party flip will be able to do this... except some one come out a script or apps to make the screen on when the proximity sensor change of value or lights... and this only happen when the screen is off...

Bro, dont know if you know this but there is 2 types of MHL adaptor. I'm not sure how to explain it but one has a longer usb tip than normal and the other one is standard length. The longer one only compatible with Note 2 and S4 phones. The standard one usually ngam with old Samsung like my Galaxy S2.

I use MXplayer, have no issue to play video in my NAS or shared folder in my PC.

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Aug 31 2013, 08:46 PM)
Alright, thanks for the clarification
So far so good, battery life is awesome (obviously)
Normal games running ok, 3D games like Asphalt 8 seems to lag
Not that I use it for gaming much, I've got ipad for that
Only problem I encounter with this phone is that I can't stream videos from my pc/nas
Even small sample clips still won't play, it just keeps on loading but nothing happens..

Has anyone here tried flashing MIUI rom?

i suggest u go back to the shop u purchase, since it's just few days old, try ask for exchange, worst is they will send warranty for u or ask u go sc to claim yourself. btw, what's the screen problem?

I'm using 24/7 on data at least 14HR on 3G, balance on wifi & I manage to squeeze up to 72HR with daily use of 1-2HR browsing 1/2HR calls & about 1HR gaming plus total 1HR on GPS (PPG), also some movies & music listening.
I even boast to most of my friend that I'm tired of waiting to charge my phone. rclxm9.gif
Been using for 1 week only charge this phone for 3rd time.

Have you downloaded and installed the codecs for MX Player? It should work. I'm having no troubles watching streaming videos from my home network or videos stored on my sdcard. biggrin.gif

MX Player allows you to use 3 different rendering methods. HW+, HW and Software. One of them should work.

just back home. mine is P780.
I talk nicely to the seller with several other shop price list for P780 including from lenovo malaysia.
He said rm800 is lower than his cost. He make call to the lenovo/supplier/boss than he said me can change to K900 with additional rm100 or fully refund.

So I take fully refund n buy S3 with SKMM rebate. Good seller, no argument at all just smooth talk.

Yeap...thats rite bro.

btw, I found out Dice Player (with custom plugin) performs better on big file compare to MX player biggrin.gif
I notice a bit lag on MX player when watching 8GB mkv file (dts codec), but Dice player can handle this smoothly.
Just that, dont try to jump/seek time, that would be too much for this phone tongue.gif

Hi bro,

Thanks for the tip on Dice Player. smile.gif Have you tried the custom codecs for MX Player? I tested on some big bdrip files, playback was smooth(software mode) and can pause/seek/ with no issues.

thinking of getting this smartphone..but wondering in terms of the 4GB space..the android OS should take some of the memory for processing..plus some normal app like fb and whatsapp? Wouldn't this affect the performance? And once OS upgrade, from JB to KitKat in the future..it will take more memory for the OS? Any issues on this?

u can use task killer to free up the memory.

But there is argument that more power to be use when u load up a program after kill the task, it is rather to left the task in the memory to save the reload time. By default, android will free up the memory when current task need the memory.

Agreed bro. I think as long as there is no real slowdown and lag when using the phone then better to leave things alone. If not broken why fix it?

Talking from personal experience using my old S2, I can say for certain that it did affect battery life and even though there was more ram, performance suffered as cache aggressively cleared. Just my 2 cents

If u saying p780 vs I8550, what I can think of:

5" IPS 720 x 1280 vs 4.7" TFT 480 x 800
8mp camera vs 5mp camera
4000 mah battery vs 2000 mah battery

The downside of p780 is the low internal memory

4gb vs 8gb

But that is not a problem with some tweaks biggrin.gif

Hmm, i don't see anything wrong with rooting. U can anytime reset the phone to factory settings and root will be gone if u need to send warranty or what ever reason

1. install the driver
2. enable usb debugging
3. connect the phone via usb and let the driver detect your phone
4. run the 'run' in the rooting folder and follow the step
5. done, restart, and congrats

I think rooting & link2sd method should be pin-up in 1st post.

Anyway 2nd week of using this phone (rooted & link2sd), so far so good.
My only regret is transferring the ownership of the phone to my wife as I promised her. cry.gif cry.gif

Either you install the driver as shared by zerohunter or from this link
PDA Net
Download the program & install.
Then copy all the files (one click rooting) as shared by zerohunter into a folder & click on the run.bat file.

where u buy it? i'm oso want to try their demo set, anywhere in kl around maluri can i try the phone?
n lastly, what is the difference between the lenovo casing vs normal niklin casing? is the 'auto screen on' feature available with the niklin casing?

1 yes
2 can reset and unroot back with a single button at the back beneath the cover. So warranty still valid
3 no as long as u have high speed micro sd card.
4 Easily screen on time. Sot 10-12hours. Great .(currently the longest standby 5 inch android phone in the world)

Yes agree. U want lagfree, any 2gb ram phone will do. But this phone wasn't a mainstream. Unless u concern about battery@dual sim.then This phone is perfect for you.

i just wanna ask u guys...

1. if rooting this device will it void the warranty
2. if void, is it worth it to root rather than leave it as it is?
3. will the p780 lag coz of the 4gb rom without rooting?
4. heavy user like me..will the phone make it through the day? my galaxy s2 only last 4 hours now. LOL

tq in advance
*
Well the 4GB rom does not affect the smoothness but the 1GB RAM is not helping... the phone will not lag unless u push too heavy gaming...
I use S3 before and I need at least 2 battery to last me until 6pm... mostly after 8 the second battery will be drained also...

Cm wont come to mtk6589 device yet because mediatek not yet release the source code to any vendor. Pray that it will so we can fully customize the system and kernel.

News. Just now surf and found the kernel source code .
Now wait for lenove to release their code. Then we can start
wait for a good developer to build it.

That's regulation from cm itself. Anyway we can always create vote thread at cm forum ask to build cm for our hp. Sometime we need to fund some money maybe 1-10dollar each to buy 1 phone to give to dev so that they can start dev.

Hi guys .. feel like getting this phone ..

What I need in in this phone is:

1.) Google maps .. must not be lagging ~
2.) Facebook + messenger .. because i got data plan so its on all the time
3.) Whatsapp ..
4.) Making calls (fedup of phone lagging when open a few apps and calls came in .. lag until call is over still cannot pickup LOL)
5.) not a gamer .. i dont play games on phone .. at most also wordsearch or crossword puzzle
6.) Lazy to charge phone haha .. so attracted to the 4000mAh batt

So this is my ultimate question before buying this P780

Will this phone feels thick and bulky for the 5inch display screen ? I mean in ratio la .. if the thickness is ok for the 5inch screen i'm ok ..

Base on your usage, this phone is suitable, the quad core cpu and 1gb ram is just fine. The battery life is superb, in my opinion, a high spec smart phone with lousy battery life is just not right, what for a high end phone but battery is dead in the middle of the day or needing to carry and charge the battery bank and phone all the time.

Yup, talk about superior battery. laugh.gif

Went 60% and start youtube video for Taiwanese drama around 6pm yesterday with my 3G data, finally phone beeps for recharging at 15% around 11.30pm. With 5 1/2 hours of endurance at 80% screen brightness, dont think any phone could beat this. biggrin.gif

Quite a big jump from 3.7 to 5 inch. Ram double. And quadcore. At sub 700-800 price range. It is worth to use ths phone. Unless u are into lte speed. This model doesn't have this feature. Other than that. Prepare yourself try to drain this battery.

why is it like this? let say i start messaging with a contact in message. (the normal one). when that contact replied, it will be in another thread. not at the thread where i started the message. so in order to maintain it under one thread, i replied at the new thread, then it will behave normally

no, i didnt have 2 contact under 1 phone number. have u guys experienced this?

Mika, you only have one color which is metal finishing and if you not use to the weight it might be a lil heavy side...
176g ++ vs 115g ++ is like carrying 150% of your current phone weight...
Link to Comparison of ur old phone n P780

i'm a heavy user and i need daily charge coz it will drop to 30% around 7pm already...
i uses a lot of calls (around 60 minutes per day on the phone)... data will be on 3G or wifi 24/7...
then going to data apps likes whatsapp, facebook, wechat, emails and play some online game also... sometimes camera also...
but for light user 2 days is not a problem...
lagginess... erhmmm so far no problem for me but some times my apps will crash maybe too many things running kua...
so far i'm happy with what i got from a 800++ phone way better than my previous S3 shakehead.gif which swear i will never get samsung again...

*
QUOTE(zerohunter @ Aug 29 2013, 09:35 PM)
my photos are shown in super gallery, videos are not coz they are rmvb files i guess, music are shown in play music, and all files are stored in external storage (memory card)

is play music app is the only bundled music player for this phone?

hi. i just bought P780.
when i run CPU IDENTIFIER (from playstore) to check the specs, it shows 4 cores (quad core).
HOWEVER, out of four, there are just two cores show 1209Mhz. The other 2 cores show 'now inactive'.
i was quite confused looking at that status. is it normal? and how do we activate the other two cores? sorry if my question sounds silly.

i found out some forumers rooted their phones, and they managed to increase the internal memory. it intrigues me to do the same. rclxms.gif
i know we can always unroot it in case the phone need to be sent to the manufacturer for warranty. but i'm damn nervous to do so since i've never done that with my smartphone before. still thinking whether to do it or not (in case i am not able to unroot after rooting it)... btw, my main purpose of rooting is just to enhance its memory. should i just take the risk and root my phone? rclxub.gif

I purchased this phone only after I know it can be rooted.
Root this phone mainly to increase the internal memory (link2sd method).
After using 1 week, unrooted (factory reset).
Then re-root again, before transferring to my wife this phones, till today she is using it without knowing I have rooted for her.
Go ahead & root this phone, don't feel like it then just factory reset to default. icon_rolleyes.gif

I have P770 and this P780 both dual sim i found out that is very convenient when i go oversea.
sim1 got 3G but sim2 only 2G both can work together for call and sms but data can only select either one to use
all setting in sim tools or sim management.

the different between P770 and P780 is
1. GPS problem solve
2. got a cleaner for ram
3. quad core CPU P770 dual core
4. bigger screen 5" P770 4.5" but feeling almost same
5. 8MP Camera P770 5MP
6. 4000mah battery P770 3500mah but performance of battery almost same coz quad core and bigger screen

Yup but china version i didnt try the need rom version...
but coz i flash 3.6G (without build-in storage) rom 1st and miui sit on top of this 3.6G rom so very unstable and the whole phone laggy. specially after flash in google apps.

i recommand you to flash after doing the repartition you need at least some space in build-in storage (now i left only 4.xMB) or you flash miui rom without changing the partition.

by the way may I know the default ROM version for your phone?? you can check it in settings->all settings-> about phone-> version info->build number

and Please take note that our P780 is international version. flashing china ROM sim2 may have problem due to baseband different.

they said got solution from Russian web but i didnt try coz in malaysia i dont have sim2 to try.

Sim1 3g data always on one no problem whatsoever? If use in Malaysia only, different telco. I've no experience with dual-sim phones before this.

it is the same in malaysia too. this phone is dual sim standby εŒε‘εŒεΎ….
My friend p770 using celcom for sim1 (personal line) and maxis for sim2 to call (company line).
his data is always on, coz this phone will cut off data while you connected to wifi and of coz if your wifi week the data will automatically on back... just like normal android phone.

Thanks Gary for sharing this, may i ask a few questions:
1-how the repartition is done, is it part of the ROM it self?
2-after i flash the rom and repartition is done, if i want to recover to stock rom, I just recover by pressing the "reset" at back of phone? or what is the step to restore stock rom+unroot?
3-after recover to stock rom, will the partition goes back to original setup where internal storage = 2.14GB , built in storage = 1.45GB?
4-do you experience any issue with lagging/performance issue by setting only 4.98MB in built-in storage?

BTW, the rom come with the phone I am using currently is P780_ROW_S115_130807, baseband version P780.V20, 2013/07/31 10:51, hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks so much.
