I'm hoping you guys can answer my question. I've been looking at newegg pricing, 120gb SSDs like Intel 330, neutron, crucial m4 and samsung 830 all have retail price about 120usd but they mostly sell around 100usd now. Plus shipping to malaysia thats only about rm325 more or less, whereas local vendors are selling these, except the intel 330, around rm360-400. So would it be recommended to just ship in from u.s because it sounds like a very good deal? In fact as of right now the OCZ vertex 4 is going for only 99usd from the rrp of 139usd.

Also according to corsair's websites it offers 5 year warranty but the garage sale posts only offer 3 years for their neutrons (not the gtx), is that just because we're Malaysia? sad.gif

If you can wait for the stuff to arrive, you may go ahead. I'll be abit worry when it comes to RMA claim. About the warranty period, i thought all corsair SSD only have 3 year term, check out the link below.

Under tech specs first thing they say is 5 years. But yeah you guys are probably right about the RMA issue, iirc newegg malaysia told me some warranties are even voided if brought out of US. I have to clarify with them first

Before you buy any item from Newegg, make sure you ask all about the warranty of that item. Because there's an item when it shipped outside US, it will void the warranty. I already asked them (Newegg Malaysia) about Samsung product, they say Samsung didnt state any void of warranty if shipped outside US. And you must know that in order to do RMA, you need to send back the item to US which is quiet a hassle (at least for me). And you need to pay half of the cost for shipping back to US. Idk if I can do RMA through Samsung Malaysia since mine its not local unit. hmm.gif

If you just want to be safe, you better buy here @ local store. But you do need to fork out some money though since the price is quiet higher than offered by Newegg. But look on the bright side, you can 1-to-1 exchange if anything happen to your ssd in a week time & its easier for RMA purpose. icon_rolleyes.gif

Bandwidth "hunger" applications such as video encoding and huge graphics rendering require high storage speed will benefit from RAID0, cause it'll double the bandwidth.
Take an example normal Intel 330 is 480MB/s (could be higher), double it will reach more than 900MB/s for sequential read/write speed.
Or maybe a high I/O server will benefit from the increased I/O as RAID0 increases that as well.
In the end, it's all about bandwidth for RAID0, access time still pretty much unchanged, cause it's so darn fast already. brows.gif (less than 1ms)

just realised my z68 doesnt support trim on raid 0

Alright thanks for all the reply guys. I guess it's just RMA issues for ordering newegg. It just sounded so tempting, the neutron for rm330 that comes with 5 year warranty, I had to come clear doubts biggrin.gif

I'd probably will wait and see for a while more I'm sure SSD prices will just continue to drop and I'm in no hurry to get one until the end of the year. Also gotta wait for the neutron series reliability reviews biggrin.gif

Might want to e-mail corsair and ask about it before you place your payment.

I have a question.

Since that SSD drives are quite good in reading and writing speed, is it good to use it to store Windows pagefile or Linux swap?

some says good, some says it'll worsen and shorten the lifespan of the SSD.

if it is good, I'm going to buy a small and good SSD for my gaming rig.
Speed is what SSD is used for. If you don't put the pagefile in a fast drive, what the use of changing to SSD? biggrin.gif

Pagefiles are created once and usually the size remains if you have enough memory. If you're paranoid, make the pagefile size permanent. Pagefiles are mostly read only activity and would not hurt the SSD

Theoretically, no.
In practice, if your TRIM is activated then you probably won't feel the "slowness", so flip to the first page and have a look on what/how about TRIM. nod.gif
Best practice is always less than 50% of the total capacity, so the SSD has space and time for the TRIM to work efficiently (IMO, correct me on this).
Always buy bigger capacity wink.gif , it's getting cheaper~~ icon_rolleyes.gif

Just got my Intel SSD 520 120gb yesterday. Did a fresh install of Win 7. Running on Sata 6Gb/s port and AHI mode but my benchmark is so low.
Ran Intel SSD Toolbox and confirmed is running latest firmware.
Any idea what's wrong here? icon_question.gif
thanks in advance

Do a benchmark with ATTO. It should be closer to the specs.

I did the test with ATTO. Yes, it looks good but why the other looks so bad and different?
This is normal?

Yes. The benchmark is showing 500 MB/s read/write as expected. The reason for the difference is in how the programs benchmark the SSD and how the SSD works.

CrystalDiskMark and AS-SSD uses random data when writing and reading and ATTO uses non-random data for the same tasks. SandForce-based SSDs, including Intel 330 and 520, uses data compression when reading and writing to the SSD. So SandForce-based SSDs perform poorly on incompressible random data but performs very well on compressible non-random data. This is the reason for the difference.

In short, if you want to test if your SSD is working correctly according to specifications, always use ATTO. Or some other benchmarking tool that can use compressible test data.

I installed Intel 520 180G weeks ago in my MBP 2011 running Mountain Lion. Benchmarking using Black Magic, Read speed is 445MB/s, Write is 195MB/s

I guess it is almost the same as yours. Start up & app launching speed is superb.

For video encoding, you'd want something other than a Sandforce controller.
I'd suggest a Samsung 830.

You can ship from Newegg.
Intel 330 can be bought for as low as RM310 in LowYat Plaza now btw, not RM360-RM400.

Hello Brother,
Do you know which shop at Lowyat Plaza are selling Intel 330 120G at RM310?
I plan to get one for my desktop. Thanks.
