I have a question.
Since that SSD drives are quite good in reading and writing speed, is it good to use it to store Windows pagefile or Linux swap? some says good, some says it'll worsen and shorten the lifespan of the SSD. if it is good, I'm going to buy a small and good SSD for my gaming rig. |

QUOTE(farizluqman @ Sep 5 2012, 10:54 PM) I have a question. Storing pagefile on SSD won't shorten its lifespan by much (if at all, really).Since that SSD drives are quite good in reading and writing speed, is it good to use it to store Windows pagefile or Linux swap? some says good, some says it'll worsen and shorten the lifespan of the SSD. if it is good, I'm going to buy a small and good SSD for my gaming rig. But realistically, you're just gonna store 512mb - 1024mb... just for programs that uses pagefile, for stability. Doesn't make a difference really. |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Sep 6 2012, 10:16 AM) Go straight a larger capacity if you does not care about bandwidth.RAID0 if you needs the performance that it delivers (twice the bandwidth of one), others such as access time remain the same, Windows might boot up just 1~2 seconds faster. |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Sep 6 2012, 10:49 AM) Bandwidth "hunger" applications such as video encoding and huge graphics rendering require high storage speed will benefit from RAID0, cause it'll double the bandwidth.Take an example normal Intel 330 is 480MB/s (could be higher), double it will reach more than 900MB/s for sequential read/write speed. Or maybe a high I/O server will benefit from the increased I/O as RAID0 increases that as well. In the end, it's all about bandwidth for RAID0, access time still pretty much unchanged, cause it's so darn fast already. This post has been edited by wildwestgoh: Sep 6 2012, 11:16 AM |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Sep 6 2012, 10:16 AM) Just notice when i was looking around the pricelist. Damn cheap! So guys, i already placed an order from Newegg Malaysia for Samsung 830 128GB, RM310+RM25 postage to my place. But this Intel price is just too good. Should i cancel my order and go for Intel? I'd stick with the Samsung 830 if I were you.So guys, i already placed an order from Newegg Malaysia for Samsung 830 128GB, RM310+RM25 postage to my place. But this Intel price is just too good. Should i cancel my order and go for Intel? RM335 for a Samsung 830 128GB is a very good deal, I don't see why you'd want to save RM20 to get an Intel 330 instead. Considering when (even if you don't need it) the Samsung 830 > Intel 330 in performance. |

I'm hoping you guys can answer my question. I've been looking at newegg pricing, 120gb SSDs like Intel 330, neutron, crucial m4 and samsung 830 all have retail price about 120usd but they mostly sell around 100usd now. Plus shipping to malaysia thats only about rm325 more or less, whereas local vendors are selling these, except the intel 330, around rm360-400. So would it be recommended to just ship in from u.s because it sounds like a very good deal? In fact as of right now the OCZ vertex 4 is going for only 99usd from the rrp of 139usd.
Also according to corsair's websites it offers 5 year warranty but the garage sale posts only offer 3 years for their neutrons (not the gtx), is that just because we're Malaysia? |

Intel 330 can be bought for as low as RM310 in LowYat Plaza now btw, not RM360-RM400. The thing with getting from Newegg is, certain manufacturers require that you send your product back to the place of origin for any warranty purposes. Not everyone provides global warranty. The Corsair Neutron comes with 3 years warranty, the Neutron GTX comes with 5 years. No difference from us and the rest of the world. |
