If too scared then nowhere is completely safe, there'll always be risks. If not thugs, can get run over by cars, motorbikes, etc. Sometimes it's just an excuse. But I guess tht's the case nowadays. Ppl got robbed, beaten up, raped & murdered while running... sad.gif

Well, after 4 years of running this is my tips on running safety:
1. Do not run in isolated areas, poorly lit areas, remote areas.
2. Run facing the traffic, if possible even when Ur running on a running/bike path (like the ones in Putrajaya)
3. Dun bring or wear valuables or blings when U run. Only bring what is necessary. Heck, I dun even bring my phone when I run.
4. Always let ppl (Ur spouse, housemate, etc) where Ur running for tht session. In case anything happen they'll know where to look.
5. Wear bright-colored clothing, especially when running on the road.
6. Face up & always anticipate.

Good luck.

Apart from the above, do not wear earphone especially running on the road. Always alert on your surrounding.

This one I didn't include becoz I run with music on.... tongue.gif But my earphone is a sports earphone that still allows me to listen to ambient sounds, like engine sound or horn.. & I run on the road facing the traffic... & I dun crank up the sound to the max..

hard to say it is safe or not but we just have to a bit more alert. There are runners who started as early as 5am during the weekend whilst for normal days, it will be less ppl. usually by 6:30 am, there are a lot of uncles & auntied who came to polo ground for their morning walk.

I also run in morning, especially in weekend for my LSD. As I'm a slow runner, I start early, sometime 5am. Before that always got excuse no time, with family commitment etc ... only choice is early morning.

Start running since May 2012, and finally join mine first race last week, MPSP Green Run HM with 2H23minute

During my run in morning:
1) I always wear white t-shirt
2) Road ID
3) Hydration belt with a blinking light
4) Face traffic
2) Don't carry any valuble item (eg handphone, wallet)

Added on August 30, 2012, 1:35 pmI also listen to music, using Ipod Nano with Nike+ sensor (to measure my distant). Have no problem with outside sound, make sure headphone not those insert into the ear canal type / noise canceling type. and like Tenno say - not too loud

My powersong is - All American Reject - Move Along

Senheiser Adidas MX6 series.... had it since 2010, now the cables start to show signs of wear & tear, my bad, I sweat buckets & I never really take care of those earphones, after use just shove back into its carry pouch. Now cable's outer casing start to break edi..but still works just fine, sound's really top notch... I think in the previous thread version we discussed about this, with photos & all... MX680 maybe the model...

Thanks! By complete the half, I felt great sense of achievement (as just start running seriously a bit). Overall, the route is very flat, weather is nice. In my training, I have confident with a slow pace at around 7:20mins/km. So, my strategy is don't rush out of starting line, and actually try follow some lady gang blush.gif , keep my pace above 7:00mins/km till 11km. After that, feel still strong (own self also surpise), then pick up my pace to around 6:50mins/km till around the end. However, struggle around 18km but carry on and manage to complete it!!!!

what work:
1) Hydration
2) take 1 gel in half way
3) start slow
4) knee support work

what not work
1) iPod keep falling out - never happened in LSD. Strange rclxub.gif

Next month, will try the Taiping IM, also HM. Any advice, cause I think there are hills. All my training in my taman very flat, and no chance / have time to go other area to run. Should I go slower?

Couldn't agree more. Especially point 2. I've seen a few runners around my neighbourhood running along the traffic, damn scary, but IMHO should bring along phone (use your good ol' nokia if they are still lying around somewhere biggrin.gif), in case of any emergency (SPI belt really holds them tight to your back/belly biggrin.gif)

Bro tenno, should put these 6 points at front post, it might and will save life!! thumbup.gif

266K,

I also plan to go there on race day, from Butterworth (I stay) to Taiping should not be that far.

All,

Anyone run Taiping before, is it really hilly? And asking all sifu, do we need hill training?

My main concern in PBIM in Nov, there are 2 big "hill" in the middle of the bridge.

Running hills will be useful, even if there's no hill in Ur next race. If U have intervals in Ur training program, doing hillsprints/intervals on hills will add variety to Ur program. The 2 big hills in the middle of the Penang bridge only looks steep from the outside, once U've run on it, believe me... U won't even notice it's there. The same goes to the hill behind PICC Putrajaya... honestly, I dunno why ppl are so scared of that hill... Once U've run the Ammah Hill or double hill in Jln Duta, everything else will seem... well, much less steep... tongue.gif
