Hi everyone!

I graduated with a degree last year, and I worked for a year before deciding to pursue my phd this year. Currently, I'm thinking to apply for MyPhd, which cover my tuition fees and would give a monthly allowance of rm2300 for 3 years.

The thing is, I attended a talk on this MyBrain thingy where the speaker said that those who have worked before might not get the monthly allowance, especially after the government checks your KWSP account and finds out that you have been getting epf (working).

So my question is, is there anyone here who got the MyPhD and at the same time worked before he/she applied for this? I have stopped working of course, but am wondering if this would affect my chances of getting the scholarship. Is it better to declare that I have worked before or should I claim that I have never worked before? (In Borang pengesahan status bagi kategori graduan belum/tidak berpendapatan tetap program biasiswa myphd)

Also, a second question:

Has anyone ever accepted a Fellowship by their university, and a few months later, get offered MyPhD as well? Would the fact that one who has been offered the Felowship have a lower chance or rejected for MyPhd? I know that if one receives both at the same time and has not accepted either one, then this is no prob - just choose which one you prefer.

But what IF I had already accepted the Fellowship, would Mohe be able to find out I have accepted the fellowship offer?
-Once they find out, will they still offer us MyPhd and allow us to choose?
-Or will they immediately reject us?

Ya, i know about this programme but u still need to get a master before you can get into PHD.

Even ur CGPA is 4 also no short cut to skip the master.

in Malaysia, to be a developed country, any first class graduate can be a PhD candidate without examination entry

i dun think a good university (havard,cambridge) will accept that.

Correct me if i am wrong though, but a student with good grades in degree can apply straight to PhD right? One of my friends do that.

But as for what I know, if you're taking master and you perform well, you can also apply to change into PhD as well

A lot of universities are offering direct PhD programmes after your first degree. This is typical for the sciences where you spend about four years working on a research project.

I believe you are allowed to choose, but you can only hold either a fellowship of the MyPhD.

NUS have a fast track program from degree directly to Phd, said by their own uni lecturer. is NUS a bad ranking uni?

Agreed. If you HAVE the ability, then go for it. Otherwise, go for a masters then Phd. Don't try to run when you only know how to crawl.

obviously some who replied in this thread got weak concept of higher education.

those with 1st class honours degree sure no problem to apply straight to phd. but those with 1st class can choose to do master if they want. anything with second class or worst need to go through masters degree.

now government wants more phd holders in malaysia and hence they gives the scholarship and fast track program.

the application period mentioned in the website is from 1st december 2010 to year 2015...means 1st jan 2015 expired or wat?

5 of my friends skipped master and study Ph.D now (fast track program from degree directly to Phd).
Their bachelor degree get first class (with CGPA more then 3.70).

Even one of my friend (master student) is applying to convert to Ph.D candidate.
Provided his performance is outstanding (produce high quality journals), a master candidate without bachelor first class also can apply to convert to a Ph.D candidate.


I went to a Postgraduate fair on 2010, I had been told that NUS, NTU and some other England world top ranking Universities also accept fast track program from degree directly to Ph.D., provided you get first class (with CGPA more then 3.70) from a recognized University.

Yes they do. Usually a first class honors (with a paper published) for your undergrad is the first prerequisite.

The second prerequisite will be the ability to find a supervisor who's willing to take you on with the topic that you wish to do.

MyMaster - as long you are full time student (perhaps got night class?)
MyPhD - as long you are not working

Hi I got offered MyMasters several months ago. The RM10,000 will be allocated to pay for your recurring semester fees, you will never see the money as they pay directly to the university for Masters level. But if there is still any leftovers from the RM10,000 fund you can ask for some money to help with your thesis (max RM3,000) once your proposal has been approved. So yes the RM3,000 is part of the total RM10,000. In order to get the biayaan you need to secure a place in a local institution first for a program approved by the ministry. It's easier for you to go directly to Putrajaya and ask them (if you can), there's a counter at the lobby for pertanyaan. Good luck and apply as soon as you get the offer from the university as it takes a while to process the scholarship. It's very easy to get for as long as you meet the minimum requirements, deadlines and fill in the forms correctly (most people screw this part up, surprisingly).

Hi Linspire,

1. U have to invest the first payment, once the scholar has been approved, they will request for the resit/payslip and you can claim it back via bank islam.

2. as stated in the mybrain15 T&C, proposal page cannot be exceed more than 15pages, however i have seen my colleuges proposal up to 20 pages. As long as you have the paper work that has been verified by your immediate supervisor, it should be ok.

3. As far as i know, mybrain15 open for the entire year. However, the only revising and checking up the application process only 4 month during the years. please refer back to mybrain15 website T&C as they stated there in detailed.

yes..submit your receipt back including your past semesters bills with the mybrain15 form.

Hi, Lyners, I would like to ask some question regarding with guarantor for myphd... My potential supervisor encourages me to apply for myphd while doing phd. May i know if the guarantor can be those who is private employee? family member that work part-time?

even the course she taken not in the list given by KPT but she managed to secure the sponsorship from MyBrain.

But does the course at least relate to the field (as listed by KPT/MOHE)?

May I know what was the course taken?

Even if certifying the cert, I'm sure you still need to scan it with colour, correct? If like that, the file size would be very huge.

No need colour. By the way, use the link provided by the MyBrain to convert your file to the desired size.

Yup. Fortunately, my Master have both Science and Art... Otherwise, will be rejected. Lot of my classmates under MBA have been rejected because of this.

hi, i need some assistance. i am planning to apply for mymasters. i got accepted in a local uni for masters and got the offer letter. i've not studied at a local uni before and i really dont know how things work there. anyway, mine is a mixed mode program and a research proposal is required. the problem is that i dont even have a supervisor to certify or acknowledge my proposal. is it possible to send in the application without the proposal? pls help...

i don't think you need to send a proposal for mix mode. only pure research-based need to send proposal

I read the requirements that even Mix Mode have to submit the research proposal with the approval of the supervisor.

You better call up MyBrain MOHE to check with them whether it is necessary for your case. They can be quite particular with the requirements.

By default the scholarship only will be given three years. No matter what you fill, you'll get three years of scholarship. But I think there's a form in the website to apply for extension when you can't complete your study in three years.

I think they will understand since you're taking coursework.

Yes, you can choose that as long as it is related to your course.

Is it true that there has been a revise done on the allowance and covered tuition fees allocation as stated for MyPHD? According to my colleague, money will only be given out accordingly to what is needed only.

This is what stated in the official MyPhD website:

Pelajar akan dikenakan ikatan Perjanjian dengan Kerajaan bersama seorang penjamin dan pelajar perlu berkhidmat di Malaysia atau mana-mana organisasi yang mempunyai kepentingan kepada Malaysia selama lima (5) tahun.

Recent offer letter dated July 2012 still follow the old rules.

So, I filled in my current semester as the first semester. Then what about baki semester (bulan)?

I have to fill it in semesters remaining or months remaining?

Do I fill in the number of remaining semesters which is 5 semesters or 30 months?

months remaining liao ... a lot of the students have been denied the scholarship because of the less than 12 months to complete the courses

So, that means if I have another 5 more semesters to complete, I should fill in as 30 bulan. Correct?

Those forms are to be filled up only after you secured the scholarship.

I just wanna know certain information. I am offered MyPhD and I have submitted all necessary documents (hard copy). I fall under category P1 (non working). When do we normally get our 1st payment of the allowance?

Besides, I realized that I am only offered the allowance for 30 months beginning February but I only received the offer letter on July. I am not sure whether they would pay me my previous months.

Tried calling them but no answer at the moment. Maybe in Raya and Merdeka mood.

Is there a direct line or we can only call 03-8888 1616??

Thanks. But maybe the question I asked was a bad one. I do understand that all those ranking/accreditation and as a former MBA students before, It seems to me that most of those ranking/accreditations are MOST RELEVANT in BUSINESS SCHOOL AT THE MASTER LEVEL (Master is probably the most marketable education segment). If my impression is not wrong, then my question can be best answered with if there are a leading field expert in the University who can become my supervisor?

Make sure your file is in pdf format or else they won't accept it.

coz OUM only have part time study... so can I apply for mymaster ? for now, i just waiting for my offer letter from UUM taking Msc (IT)...

I manage to get accepted to...may I know where can I submit those perjanjian and kesihatan borang? Where is KPT location in Penang? and I had just started my class too, which mean I have done my kesihatan report for my admission. I wonder it is possible for me to reuse my kesihatan report for my mybrain15 kesihatan borang?

I just called them up and they told me the process will take about 2 to 3 months.

waaa really ???... too many apps indeed.... I had read before someone said it takes only 2 month processing..example :- this month send , so next month he/she got the scholarship[SIZE=7]

2-3 months still alright. As long we get it at the end of the day. Imagine wait wait and wait and negative response

Btw just an add-on in case you guys do not know. I called up MyBrain unit regarding the number of pages for the proposal. It was stated in the website that it has to be 10-15 pages. Through the phone call the officer said, it doesn't matter how many pages (well of course don't go overboard) as long it is attachable online (within 300kb). Mine is 24 pages. Currently waiting for my offer letter from uni before I can apply MyBrain
