Hi, anyone successfully use Apple TV with unifi?

What do you mean by "successful"? I've got no problem connecting to netflix via VPN using unifi. Or do you mean streaming TM's hypo tv channels through ATV?

Means if I buy Apple TV must setup VPN then only can use the device?..

Depending on what you want to do with it .. you can stream movies from your Mac through itunes to the AppleTV. If you want to subscribe to online streaming services in the US, yes, you need either VPN or a mechanism such as unblock-us.com ..

Sad to say, no you can't use appletv to watch those channels streamed by Unifi's IPTV. Read more about it here:

Just that, without jailbreaking it, you can only stream movies through itunes. There are few other services offered which are free like youtube etc. which I've never try them.

Apple TV is not your average mediaplayer. I'be been using it for about 2 months now and have stopped buying DVDs or Blurays. Jailbreaking is the way to go to fully utilize this magical little black box. Also AirPlay mirroring will blow you away. Everything on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 will appear on your LCD TV. I can jailbreak the apple TV in less than 40 minutes. I hardly watch astro or iptv nowadays. All latest and old movies, tv shows, music concerts, comedies etc at your fingertips 24 hours a day, for FREE!

For FREE? That's what I want! .. currently using paid netflix service, care to share what services that I could stream for free? I've install XBMC and streaming some services, but they're not all latest tho'.

Yes, literally everything on your iPhone 4s and iPad 2 will be on your screen. There will be black bars at the sides but it will appear full screen for movies, photos and certain games. AirPlay mirroring works without jailbreak as well. U have to update to the latest 5.0.1 software.

I guess you've the Apple TV 1st generation instead of the new black box. The black box is not as powerful as the old AppleTV and I couldn't find those media streaming service from my XBMC list.

Anyone here can guide me through how can i install icefilm ?
i already jailbreaked and XBMC installed.

No mate, I'm using Apple TV2, just got it about 3 months ago. Icefilms and navi-x are very easy to install and streams beautifully. U have to install the repository and addons manually. It's not built in to xbmc. I cannot explain how to do it here as the mods might remove the thread. U can actually do it in less than 5 mins.

Do you need a vpn to stream the netflix? AFAIK it required vpn since its geoblock right?

Either VPN or unblock-us.com should work.

forget about it, unless you have unifi running
streamy speed just doesn't work.

It's better if u re-jailbreak with season pass for 4.4.4. More stable and much mor bug fixes and features, like AirPlay mirroring.
To load icefilms and navi-x, you need to download a program for windows called winscp, google it. And then transfer the zip files for icefilms and navi-x, which you can find very easily via google into the media folder of your apple tv. There are lots guides to do this. I've installed navi-x successfully, downloaded the latest zip file v37_3. Tried icefilms yesterday, for some reason, it download 200MB file. No idea what that one for.. but still need netflix for my son to watch his old-time favourites like power ranges etc.

Astro won't sue Apple since Apple only allows few streaming services, mostly US based one. If Apple decided to go local, they probably will ask Astro to develop an app, just like those Netflix, Hulu etc. that run on the AppleTV.

Apple tv can play.mkv and h.264 format up to 720p, .avi 720p file will result in stuttering as the A4 chip in the apple tv can't handle it.

I got my apple tv from the west 54th st. apple store in new York. After conversion it's about RM340 or so. Anyone needs help jail breaking and installing all the addons, give me a holler if ur in the klang valley. I'll do it for you for the cost of a Teh Tarik! There are quite a number of guides out there, search for 'firecore seas0npass' on google and you'll get what you wanted

To JB, make sure you've the AppleTV connected via micro-USB and it shouldn't be connected to A/C power. The rest of the guide can be found in firecore's website.

There is easier method to install XBMC but you need to pay for it.. to install XBMC through ssh, here is the guide:

No idea what smarttv is, but with appletv, you can install xbmc .. and as aceedburn, you can do a lot of thing with it .. I couldn't play much with mine since my son's have the sole ownership of the appletv + tv .. can't watch astro too .. need to get another tv

Jailbreaking is no longer considered as piracy, there are one thread each in iphone, ipad and ipod sub-forums. I believe admins are okay with this. There is no piracy discussion anyway on AppleTV since no commercial applications are allowed on it.

How to play movie (avi and mvk) from my imac?

Two ways:

1) I believe XBMC can play avi and mkv (haven't test this), if yes, you can mount your iMac filesystem from xbmc. Activate file sharing and use the guide here to get afp running on apple tv2:

Ok, now, go to XBMC, videos, files. Add videos, select Browse, scroll down for ZeroConfig browser, add your ip address using:

afp://youripaddress .. it should let you add the path.

On mine, my shared Mac machine is listed without me specifying the afp://ipaddress manually..

Have a static ip address assigned to your imac. This can be done in your router.

Nope, my server has a fixed ip. I'm no longer using my tm provided router. Do you have access to the router? If yes, check under network and see if you can have a static ip address there. Otherwise, just change your imac ip from dhcp to static (on your imac setting that it)..
