What do you mean by "successful"? I've got no problem connecting to netflix via VPN using unifi. Or do you mean streaming TM's hypo tv channels through ATV?

Depending on what you want to do with it .. you can stream movies from your Mac through itunes to the AppleTV. If you want to subscribe to online streaming services in the US, yes, you need either VPN or a mechanism such as unblock-us.com .. |

Apple TV is not your average mediaplayer. I'be been using it for about 2 months now and have stopped buying DVDs or Blurays. Jailbreaking is the way to go to fully utilize this magical little black box. Also AirPlay mirroring will blow you away. Everything on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 will appear on your LCD TV. I can jailbreak the apple TV in less than 40 minutes. I hardly watch astro or iptv nowadays. All latest and old movies, tv shows, music concerts, comedies etc at your fingertips 24 hours a day, for FREE!

[/quote] It's better if u re-jailbreak with season pass for 4.4.4. More stable and much mor bug fixes and features, like AirPlay mirroring. To load icefilms and navi-x, you need to download a program for windows called winscp, google it. And then transfer the zip files for icefilms and navi-x, which you can find very easily via google into the media folder of your apple tv. There are lots guides to do this. I've installed navi-x successfully, downloaded the latest zip file v37_3. Tried icefilms yesterday, for some reason, it download 200MB file. No idea what that one for.. but still need netflix for my son to watch his old-time favourites like power ranges etc.

Astro won't sue Apple since Apple only allows few streaming services, mostly US based one. If Apple decided to go local, they probably will ask Astro to develop an app, just like those Netflix, Hulu etc. that run on the AppleTV.

Ok, now, go to XBMC, videos, files. Add videos, select Browse, scroll down for ZeroConfig browser, add your ip address using:
afp://youripaddress .. it should let you add the path. On mine, my shared Mac machine is listed without me specifying the afp://ipaddress manually.. Ok found the unifi router guide. Go to dhcp server settings, you should be abld to see the dhcp reservation..add your imac name, ip address and mac address there.

Apa punye field engineer daa, unifi router setting is nothing lah, buat malu engineer je .. haha.. (btw, am engineer by qualification but stuck in software development maintaining an ERP system).
For the static IP, better to assign it to lower IP address .. have no idea how that DHCP with manual address work, I believe it will update router's database so the next machine connecting won't get the same IP address as your iMac .. probably .. no idea .. XBMC setting? No idea bro, is there anything within XBMC that will reset it? Resetting the apple tv won't help since XBMC is the one that created the playlist. Probably ssh into your appletv and find the playlist file .. should've within the XBMC directory. May I know if Im using AirPlay from iPad2 or 4s ,5.0.1 into apple tv, will it stream movie with sound into the tv too or stream sound when doing a mirroring mode ?

apple tv comes only with HDMI output. If there is hdmi-to-vga converter, you might be able to.. but haven't tested this myself, so, no idea really.

The new AT2 has never been jailbroken before and I do understand that Tinyumbrella can save the blobs but not sure it can save the blobs on a non jailbroken ATV2 or can it?
Furthermore can I use redsnow to build the patched blobs instead of ifaith to create custom ipsw? And I guess an edit to the hosts file would be required. |

lets me share some info about ATV3 use in malaysia...
- login as US apple ID, n u can enjoy the same UI or apps appear from apple website..I guess if login as Malaysia apple ID the netflix, NBA or bla bla wont appear - airplay are great...when u hav .mkv in ur Idevice it can play smoothly (I use AVplayer HD from my ipad2 n remember to turn on mirror if not it only can hear sound - login with US apple ID u still can watch NBA highlight n so on...but cant login to watch live, NETFLIX not work as it will pop up region error - popcast n radio work fine - i like youtube, u can login n watch ur subscribe channel in HD ( i have hyppTV for me to watch youtube...but ATV can login and the quality are good) - important....u'll only enjoy the apple TV with high broadband speed, especially watch preview or trailer (i'm using UNIFI VIP5 so far so good..) - vimeo apps not that good (but u can use ur Idevice safari go to vimeo n airplay it...great) Thanks, lets rock n share... :-) |

Yup. Correct. I normally catch up old series once a while.Also Netflix on itunes can pay using Itunes gift card. Now the rate is very cheap. (around 1USD = RM2.8 or lower). I terminated by usual Netflix account and use New netflix account on AppleTV. But 1 thing I found out is that the Netflix video quality on AppleTV is slightly worse than Netflix on Roku2 XS. Somehow it is hard for AppleTV Netflix to stream at HD reso. Hopefully either Apple or Netflix can fix it. |

now I got the US itunes acc and free trial Netflix for 1 mth and ofcoz with free trail 1 week for unblock us b4 i buy unblock us for 5usd per month...just want to make sure I can continue on Netflix as well - if I buy itunes card and redeem can continue for Netflix..? - or if I setup my US itune acc with pay pal it will work..? - which 1 is better or any others work around...? in order to use non-jb apple TV, must have at least fast connection and unlimited bandwidth,
Bcoz there is no place for u to choose 480, 720 or 1080HD, it will automatic choose the highest 1080p quality. and it suck up my 20G umobile bandwith easily. |

hi guys,
I've been happily using my PS3 as a media player all this while. Although it plays all my non HD AVIs very well and very sharp (due to the upscaling), I find the whole process of transferring files to and fro my macbook and the PS3's external HDD a pain in the ass. I've tried streaming with Plex but the movies I stream (non HD mind you) always chokes and stutters. I'm not sure if that's because of my stupid Unifi router or is it due to my PS3's Wireless G speed. Will the Apple TV solve my streaming problems? if I can easily stream from my Macbook Pro (connected to my 2TB external HDD where I keep my files), then it would be a great tool to have! otherwise I might look into getting a QNAP or Synology to stream my files BUT I'm still worried about stuttering and choking... so many things to worry about, limited budget, and don't wanna risk buying those stuffs and end up can't work well Thanks so much for reading and I hope someone can provide me with some answers! hi guys, now I'm on unblock-us and netflix trial. But I always need to reactivate the changed ip address on unblock-us once I restart my modem. If I subscribe it, do I need to do that everytime?

yup, everytime you reset your modem, you'll get a new IP address. This IP address need to be updated in unblock-us database. Wonder why you need to restart your modem? My router + modem have been up for many months without a need to restart.

I'm on unifi, it doesn't change the IP address unless I rebooted my modem. Eventhen, it seems unblock-us works just fine .. check on how to use dyndns to trigger IP change, it is available in unblock-us FAQ.

Ice films - does not work for me for x reasons, the links don't show up Pogo plug - once jail broken of course, Pogo plug - in case people does not know, it is a little arm based box that I got from USA for usd99. Once jailbroken, (even without, it's also quite usable), installed Samba as well as some other stuffs, then if becomes a low power (very important to me) streaming, downloading box and 24/7... |

I have both atv2 and atv3. Atv2 jailbroken but atv3 can still be used with Netflix. All u need is VPN and Netflix subscription is only usd7.99 per month!

Yes, the new Apple TV from apple store Malaysia comes with a UK 3-pin power plug. The box is taller to accomodate this. |

i facing a problem that ATV not support for chinese subtitle. Even i convert my MP4 movie and merge together with the subtitle. But i found didn't work on ATV. Work fine with iTunes.

yes for ATV2 coz can JB and you can get ATVFlash which has a media player or my personal favorite Plex (probably the best media organizer today). If ATV3 only can use home sharing on your iTunes.

Airplay if im not mistaken not JB stuffs le
Its where u mirror ur iOS device on TV wirelessly using internet instead of VGA adapter.. Something like doing presentation using TV through the iOS device As for games that support airplay, u need check with the devs themselves.. I know MC3 can airplay |

im abit confused. Airplay mean mirroring? Meaning whatever shown in iphone/ipad will be display at lcd tv via wifi? ATV3 can support this function right or i need to jb first?

if jb already can airplay your whole screen to apple tv... put if play intense games the things will lag... sound also will be played on the tv...

Any idea how to solve the Netflix unavailable in Apple TV? I have been using Netflix via UnBlock Us and watch Netflix for the last 4 days. Suddenly, the Netflix show unavailable yesterday night.

I just used netflix trial and unblock-us trial.Now I really dissapointed in malaysia internet service.I mean REALLY DISSAPOINTED.I just know that netflix will gave the movie based on your internet connection.Since my house only have 4MB streamyx,I only watch lousy quality.Sigh,wish at least can watch HD on appleTV netflix is good enough for me
