What do you mean by "successful"? I've got no problem connecting to netflix via VPN using unifi. Or do you mean streaming TM's hypo tv channels through ATV?

Depending on what you want to do with it .. you can stream movies from your Mac through itunes to the AppleTV. If you want to subscribe to online streaming services in the US, yes, you need either VPN or a mechanism such as unblock-us.com ..

Sad to say, no you can't use appletv to watch those channels streamed by Unifi's IPTV. Read more about it here:

Just that, without jailbreaking it, you can only stream movies through itunes. There are few other services offered which are free like youtube etc. which I've never try them.

For FREE? That's what I want! .. currently using paid netflix service, care to share what services that I could stream for free? I've install XBMC and streaming some services, but they're not all latest tho'.

I guess you've the Apple TV 1st generation instead of the new black box. The black box is not as powerful as the old AppleTV and I couldn't find those media streaming service from my XBMC list.

Either VPN or unblock-us.com should work.

I've installed navi-x successfully, downloaded the latest zip file v37_3. Tried icefilms yesterday, for some reason, it download 200MB file. No idea what that one for.. but still need netflix for my son to watch his old-time favourites like power ranges etc.

Astro won't sue Apple since Apple only allows few streaming services, mostly US based one. If Apple decided to go local, they probably will ask Astro to develop an app, just like those Netflix, Hulu etc. that run on the AppleTV.

There are quite a number of guides out there, search for 'firecore seas0npass' on google and you'll get what you wanted

To JB, make sure you've the AppleTV connected via micro-USB and it shouldn't be connected to A/C power. The rest of the guide can be found in firecore's website.

There is easier method to install XBMC but you need to pay for it.. to install XBMC through ssh, here is the guide:

No idea what smarttv is, but with appletv, you can install xbmc .. and as aceedburn, you can do a lot of thing with it .. I couldn't play much with mine since my son's have the sole ownership of the appletv + tv .. can't watch astro too .. need to get another tv

Just wondering if the topic starter is still active, probably we could do a first page FAQ and guides on how to install xbmc, navi-x, or on how to subscribe to the streaming services.

Jailbreaking is no longer considered as piracy, there are one thread each in iphone, ipad and ipod sub-forums. I believe admins are okay with this. There is no piracy discussion anyway on AppleTV since no commercial applications are allowed on it.

Two ways:

1) I believe XBMC can play avi and mkv (haven't test this), if yes, you can mount your iMac filesystem from xbmc. Activate file sharing and use the guide here to get afp running on apple tv2:

Have you install XBMC? Go and add the add-ons .. navi-x etc.. or wait for the guide from aceedburn tonight
