Well there was a big applause by the press audience when Nokia CEO said "this will be Nokia's first WP7 device". Check 2.32mins, the applause went on for more than 10secs and Nokia CEO had to interrupt to stop the applause and get with the press conference

from Endgadget:

Ok, this one's odd. In fact, we didn't believe the images until a video just surfaced showing Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop, foolishly asking a crowd of people to "put away their cameras" for the unveiling of something "super confidential," codenamed "Sea Ray." Naturally, a few people ignored the plea for "no pictures please" and, indeed, someone leaked what appears to be a Nokia-produced video of the unveiling to the blogosphere. What is it? Why, it's Nokia's first Windows Phone. While it looks nearly identical to the just announced N9, the different LED placement on the back (in line with the same 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens) confirms it's a new device as does the additional hardware button (for shutter release, we presume) along the side. And the fact that it's running Windows Phone 7 Mango seals the deal. See a few more shots and the full uncut video (and relevant snippet) after the break.

Look what we've found! This is the first image you'll see anywhere of the early fruit of Microsoft and Nokia's budding new partnership. We have it on good authority that the technicolor phones on show are conceptual devices produced by the two companies. You shouldn't, therefore, go jumping to conclusions about retail hardware just yet, but hearts should be warmed by the familiarity of Nokia's new design -- the shape of these handsets is somewhere between its recent N8 and C7 Symbian devices and there is, as usual for Nokia, a choice of sprightly colors. The trio of keys adorning the new concept's bottom give away its Windows Phone 7 ties, but also remind us that the N8 and E7 are highly unlikely to receive any WP7 upgrade love. The best part about this whole discovery, however, might be that it confirms Steve Ballmer's assertion that the engineers of both companies have "spent a lot of time on this already." So, who else is excited about owning an Engadget-blue Microkia device?

Edited May 26:

http://www.i4u.com/46740/nokia-swamp-2012-windows-phones

It has been already over a half year since the first wave of Windows Phone 7 devices launched. There are actually no signs that there will be new Windows Phones until the release of Windows Phone 7 Mango in early fall. Nokia's VP of Smart Devices Jo Harlow says to change that once Nokia gets started with the first Windows Phone 7. In an interview with PCMag she said that Nokia plans to release new Windows Phones every three months.

That would be good thing for getting traction in the crowded smartphone market space. It feels like there is every other week a new Android phone coming out.

Nokia is rumored to launch the first two Windows Phone 7 devices in Q4. Of course Nokia needs to do more than just release lots of new handsets. Microsoft and Nokia need to get the eco-system for the Windows Phones up to the levels where Apple and Google are.

I saw Nokia news today that "their 1st priorty is to beat android", thus it might not entering android platform.

This sucks, they should make both platform instead annoucing war to android, I mean, look on how successful korean LG and Samsung makes for both OS

Nokia has always emphasized on different platform than LG/Samsung/HTC/. Thee three companies including Motorola Eriksson are all banking on Android. All three have only announced one WP7 model per country. Nokia wants to be the break out WP7 hardware maker for WP7. Thats how they differentiate the brand with other brands.

lol..nokia might only able to release WP7 phone after 2 years..

Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 devices won’t hit the market for another two years, and the company’s partnership with Microsoft carries some wide-ranging and systemic risks.

That comes from Nokia’s publicly released Form 20-F 2010 report, a massive tome submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and posted on Nokia’s Website.

rumors has it that Nokia will dish out four WP7 handset models. Two with chasis 1 (min 1gh processor) and two with chasis 2 = 0.8gh processor. Current chasis one model are all with the SRP of above RM2000 in Malaysia. With the introduction of chasis 2, it will drastically reduce the price point of WP7 models.

There has been a lot of debate over the Nokia and Microsoft Partnership, especially regarding when Nokia will start the production of the Windows Phone 7 devices. While the exact dates are yet to be announced, Mobile Review revealed that we can expect at least 4 devices in early 2012.

Another area Nokia and Microsoft are having a challenge in agreeing is the naming convention of the new phones. It will be difficult for both to modify their existing conventions to please the other, but at large the Nokia Windows Phone devices will be carrying a "W" prefix. This will be the link factor for the Nokia phones running on the Windows operating system.

As per the details made available, Nokia will be releasing the first handset in early 2012, which will be a modified version of the Nokia X7. It will have an 8MP camera, a Qualcomm QSD8250 chipset and a WVGA screen. A Windows Phone version of the Nokia N8 will also be in the markets towards the end of the first quarter or early in the second one. It will, like the N8 have a 12MP camera and also boast a Dual-Core Qualcomm processor.

From the specifications of the sets mentioned, it appears that Microsoft and Nokia are both in harmony to continue with the focus on camera phones. One interesting thing to note here is how Nokia is being made to adopt the Qualcomm processor to power its devices, the credit of which largely goes to Microsoft.

There are two more, one that will be a touch screen QWERTY phone and another low priced model aimed to cater to the lower tier of the smartphone market. While the 4 are just the beginning, Nokia will be releasing at least a dozen Windows Phone 7 devices. There is a lot more to come from this Nokia/Microsoft handshake for sure. Let's wait and see how 2012 shapes for both the giants and how they can benefit from each others’ position.

rumours - at least two Microkia handsets to arrive in the fourth quarter. One with keyboard the other one - touchscreen

http://nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspap...ch-Window-phone

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Nokia planned to launch its first smartphone using Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 at the end of the year, according to Taiwan’s Commercial Times, which did not identify a source.

The newspaper also said Taiwanese handset contract maker Compal Communications was the sole company to receive orders for Nokia’s Window phones and would start shipment in the fourth quarter. Two models of Window phones were on Nokia’s plan — one with a full touch screen and another sleek one with a keypad.

The world’s largest handset maker announced in February it would use Microsoft’s Windows phone software in all of its smartphones, and said it would start volume shipments of these smartphones in 2012.

interesting thing to note that the phone they showed was essentially an N9 running WP7 right?

The N9 doesn't have front buttons, you need 3 for WP7 (back, windows, search)

then on a site that posted specs, the video resolution of the screen is 480x854 that's 54 pixels taller than the standard 480x800... I just hope it's not being used to display some soft buttons.

In any case I'd have to say the front cover design should be different for the final unit.

I never understood the rationale of putting the camera at the top end of a phone. They should put it at the center so that my fat fingers won't accidently block the lens, or affect the flash!

hmm true also, it is mandatory to have the three buttons on a WP7 phone. One one thing about the N9 is, there is no physical button.
The additional pixels maybe for the placement of three touchscreen buttons.. hmmm

I sure hope that is NOT the case, it would mean the device would waste cycles drawing the touch buttons there

Not sure whether you are unlucky or others are lucky. I tried over 3 HTC products and 2 of them works over 2 years(and still working). The 3rd one is my mozart now which also run at maximum smoothness(or may be 98% whistling.gif ).

I suggest you give them another try or go claim your warranty as most of us here just got well with our HTC, wondering why you being so ''unlucky''... wink.gif

My own devices were fine, and my main problem with them is their INCONSISTENCY of quality. First batch ok, next batch not so ok, next batch hey.. ok agian.. etc. etc. I have been a dedicated HTC owner since the TANAGER, so I know where they came from, and after all these years they STILL haven't bucked up yet.

Your HTC works fine for you, that's great. But guess what happens when you recommend it to your friends and THEIR batch ends up being the shitz.? Sure.. he can claim warranty, but tell me.. would YOU want to be without your phone for a few days?

Pluh, I've been anti HTC for over 2 years. First is because they butchered up windows mobile. Now is because they use cheap components on their WP7s.

I demoed the N9 and I must say I'm extremely impressed with the construction, the glass & body is seamless. no bump or visible gap.

Yeah, looking at the pictures and videos I am really impressed too.

It makes no sense for Nokia to fall back on lower quality hardware for their WP7 handsets after releasing the N9. Cross fingers, hope it's as good as N9 or even better! Planning to buy one if it can be unlocked easily to sideload apps haha

the only thing that attracts me is the design and nokia maps...free offline maps around the world!!

but other than that, cant c any difference between HTC/Samsung/Nokia that run on WP7 as the OS lacks customization...

N9 retailed for $650 but in Malaysia it is only retailed at RM1.8k. Is it possible for Lumia 800 to be lower than RM1.8k since it's going to be retailed at about $585? Hopefully so biggrin.gif

With the new ecosystem that Stephen Elop is introducing, I hope the reduction of cost will eventually profits Nokia. Hence I hope it will be less than RM1.8k. If not, then I will have to project that Symbian & Meego lost might actually influence the Financial Status of Nokia which eventually affect consumer like us.

Am I going too far? Hahaha... Let's have our fingers cross.

Something to add on, as per GSM Arena's Source (Lumia 800 @ £440) it is priced at an estimation of 440 pound in the UK. Expensive lehhh...

Now that Nokia World 2011 is over. We now know that the birth of Lumia & Asha has been given to Nokia Fans. So now, are we anticipating more news or what? Cause I am reading and reading on their new Windows Platform OS and it's really turning me ON!

Price = We can't control unless Nokia Asia has it's final quotations with HQ.
Locations = This is to determine the launch date for each country. I thin we might get some hint on this matter.
Specs = GSM Arena can spell all for us.

Anymore? anymore?

If only they don't just release the "exclusive" white N9 to itself.
I'd get one white for 800. :/
Though, I'd say the audio equipments looks wicked paired together. nod.gif
Not really a fan of beats but for look alone, they're funky.

The fact that I can use the phone 'as it is' without any casing is a joy. Unlike my Mozart, I'd have some fright over dropping it since I'm sure there's gonna be a kink and it gets slippery in my hands.

The form factor is a plus too although I'd admit the specs are just normal. But that alone won't defeat me from considering 800. tongue.gif

played the NL800 today and the screen is SMALL !! I'm not sure is it me to look at it being small (maybe i'm used to 4.3" screen). Looks nice, feel nice everything nice just the screen. And when I go into web omg the word is freaking small (desktop view). I cant take it, need to zoom zoom scroll left and right. LOL.. I think if the NL800 is 4.3" i will definitely get it on the spot. sad.gif

Guess they're just using what designs they have to fit WP7 and come out with one 'soon'. N9 had similar sized screen right?

The big one will come on that rumoured 'Ace' I guess.

I might just jump my blackberry right into this.

I just hope it has pen support. I find W7 phones's excel, word and PP to be one of the best compared to the phones that I have owned before.

But i really hope they will allow pen support, because i need the precision when doin jobs on excel.

Lets hope they do a good job this time!!

nokia Ace ? i think it'll kill the lumia 800 and 710.

so,

Sabre = nokia 710
Searay = nokia 800
Ace = nokia 900

the spec for Ace is a killer too.

but if nokia lumia 800 is price at RM1800 or so, then ace would cost ... ??? rolleyes.gif

Nokia users tend to be less hardcore, that's why you'll seldom find them here.

I have a feeling that this phone will sell really really well in Europe, Nokia branding + aggressive marketing campaign by Nokia.

Nokia phones will also get free games from EA on top of the maps and music apps. So that's some nice value added there too.

I don't see iPhone 4S as a threat to Nokia, I think Nokia is benchmarking iPhones with their own Smartphones. Moreover, they are still maintaining their diversity of their phones not only to iUsers but people from all demographics. I take it as Nokia's challenge to be a world-class mobile provider. However, if they are not cautious about the future, well Nokia can be down under anytime with just a snap.

Windows Phone is still raw and still searching for it's market here in Malaysia. Til now, I still have yet to encounter a Windows Phone 7 user. Maybe my circular are not so tech/gadget savvy. But I do hope with their (Nokia) vision/mission about the new ecosystem that Microsoft has developed/developing cum Stephen's sharing, to be a great success in the mere future.

I'm still waiting anxiously for both Nokia Lumia 800 & 710 to be in Malaysia for user's preference on the new phone OS with Nokia well-known hardware and the new feature Windows Phone Mango.

Sadly in Malaysia, there's no App marketplace here. A lot of Microsoft's other services for WP7 aren't available here either. I guess it's no surprise that it isn't very popular in Malaysia even though it's such a good OS.

Sadly in Malaysia, there's no App marketplace here. A lot of Microsoft's other services for WP7 aren't available here either. I guess it's no surprise that it isn't very popular in Malaysia even though it's such a good OS.
*
yeah sad no marketplace in Msia, but still can use marketplace from another country. for services that can be used in Msia, lets hope our local dev make it for us. nod.gif

I hope Nokia will eventually implement the Swipe-UI into their WP7. Personally, I think the N9's Swipe-UI would mesh very very very well with WP7 OS, since a lot of WP7 apps already incorporate virtual buttons within the Panorama style swiping for apps.

The homescreen can perhaps look something like this.

Nokia is Olympic Brand in India, mah... Over 60% market share in mobile phone market.

Plus India is rich and poor enough for Nokia to execute both the Smartphone and Feature Phone strategy at once.

Though I'm still annoyed that we can't get Lumia 800 this year... What's worse is that it will likely won't even be January, but maybe February or March instead.

If you noticed, Nokia will not release N9 in important market areas. Like the U.S, they do not have the N9, because Nokia wants to push Windows Phone kao kao in those important markets. They only reserve N9 to not-so-important markets... like Malaysia sweat.gif

Added on November 19, 2011, 9:27 pmLumia 800 released in HK for around 4400HKD, that works out to be about RM1800. Pretty sure that's the price we'll see in Malaysia if they ever release it here.

If you don't mind to get it from Singapore, you can wait till around December. During the 800 launch I'm pretty sure (but not 100%) that it is announced Singapore will get the phone by end of this year.

Added on November 21, 2011, 10:05 amActually if you think about it, RM1800 for such a good build quality is considered cheap already. You have to understand that what makes a phone cheap or expensive is the build quality, the specifications such as dual-core chips etc don't cost the manufacturers a lot of money. That's why you'll see that most Android phones do not compete with the Iphone4 in terms of build quality, because it's too expensive for them. They just put more powerful chips to compete, which cost less.

The 800's build quality is really superb with its price, considering that the build quality is just as good as Iphone4. If Nokia can put dual core inside, they will definitely do it at the same price, but problem is WP7.5 still doesn't support dual core. Need to wait at least until middle next year I believe, but most probably WP8 will come with Windows 8, around Q3/4 next year.

So what does it mean that Malaysia doesn't have the XBOX Market place? Means that we cannot buy app as they block our phonebill or credit card?

What about this er....pirated apps for WP7? Very uncommon?

I'm tempted to buy a Lumia...but I will have to wait for reviews first

FIXED. Tegra 3 phone is cumming on Android.... tongue.gif

Anyway, this is do or die for NOKIA...if they failed this one, it's bye-bye NOKIA. Seriously, Windows Phone already lost all the momentum with the lack lustre sales....i don't see how NOKIA can reignite the fire no matter how many laser light shows they put up....once people grab their hands on one...it'll be basically almost the same thing they saw on other WP phones last year with some minor difference, since MS dun allow for OS customization.

there is no point to have a faster hardware to cater your OS to run smoother. even a single core hardware wp7 device can run smoother than a quad core device.

my custom wp7 OS running on 1GHz with 512MB RAM perform smoother and faster than a SGS II.

cmon, do not simply assume when u have never experience it before. u have to compare side by side to get a result. not mouth by mouth.

if you dont know, do not voice out. do some google. the first customizable ROM with customizable Metro UI is out there. see below to believe it.

Attached Image

there is less customization due to wp7 are designed to be clean and ease to obtain all information instantly. their tile can design to flip and contain updated information which it will alert the user even not opening the app.

user just want something simple, clean, easy and informative from wp7.

Agree.

Nokia is going ahead with Windows Phone to the mass market where most users prefer clean, simple and task-effective design. Information and option could be tweak and accessed easily.

I had tried Android. It is a good OS. Very customizable = many options however it may be confusing for most users who just wish above.

However, I choose Windows Phone due to its simplicity, as I am a simple smartphone user. Email, Song, Apps
It is true that the current WP lacks several vital features, but it had progressed a lot with Mango updates in a short time.

nope. u need data to startup for the first route. later on u can turn it off and it will still work. but it become less responsive.

It's the design of the android Os that requires it to need such a powerful processor to match the fluidity of IOS and wp7. You'll never notice any stutter on wp7 and ios no matter how busy the processor is. This is why ms never bothered to support dual core because wp7 really doesn't need it yet

windows doesnt allow dual core or whatever core processor..

its only 1ghz single core now.. so no need to blame nokia for that.

with single core it can perform better than android with single core so i dun see the problem here

Check out the Nokia Lumia Launch Party in Singapore at Read Bridge, Clarke Quay

A giant Lumia 800 was displayed!

windows doesnt allow dual core or whatever core processor..

its only 1ghz single core now.. so no need to blame nokia for that.

with single core it can perform better than android with single core so i dun see the problem here
*
Yes! I've tested it out at Singapore. It runs fluidly and fast although is a single core. FYI Lumia 800 & 710 runs on 1.4Ghz single core. smile.gif

ya.. so why need to dual core or even quad core? never the less more core mean more battery suxking.

i tried out my hd7 with a droid dual core device running side by side yesterday. both device rebooted at the same time. hd7 boot time out run droid dual core by at least 5sec. when come to run a a games called "burn the rope" hd7 finish loading than droid dual core by 2-3 sec ahead.

no doubt droid on stock ROM by manufacturer. not what droid user claims the fastest MUI version. but it still doest make sense to me a more powerful device running on such a so call more powerful and highly customised OS. it still run slower than a lowest spec device and what they claim buggiest OS on earth.

As for now, the OS is still at a growing stage and we might be seeing multi-core support in the future. However, what I personally thinks is MS is trying to put in more features for now, and more juice for the phone? Not necessary.

Sadly, they're kinda late to miss the train which the Droid & Apple has conquered most of the market.

*

Whats with these obsession to differenciate? There's nothing wrong with the UI. It's fast, fluid and classy looking. It's easy to understand. Yes, every device look the same so why would anyone opt for a specific brand rather than the others. But that's where these manufacturers have to build phones that looks different from the others. Nokia N9/Lumia 800 is one such device.

I rather WPx stays the same than seeing the manufacturers have their own say on how the UI should look on their own devices. That new Sense UI..carousel looks horrible IMO. By it being the same across the board, it's easier for the user to get used to their phones should they change phones. Less bloatware too.

And when the time comes to update the OS, there really is no excuse not to give out updates like what we see on Android.

Microsoft really should be doing better to market WP7 though. There's still no marketplace for us. Nokia will help them with that hopefully.

Disappointed by the price tag for lumia 800.
Followed this phone for quite some time now and here i was thinking that since w7m os is not really that popular and nokia is desperate to get back on it's feet, i thought they'd push the phone out at a very competitive price. I was so wrong. Was thinking of recommending my sis, after seeing the price....no thx
Rationally when your trying to compete for market share and promote the w7m os, you should lower the price to try to convert android or ios user, call it a long term investment. But...no, seem like the ceo still prefer the "burning platform" and try to carved a niche market.

It's hard to trust Monster after trying their crappy Solo HD. But I guess it's good for those who want the hype though.

Maybe the crap is due to Beats. tongue.gif This is a Monster-Nokia team-up.
Besides, Monster-Beats have decided to not continue their team-up. rclxms.gif

I got a unit from Singapore. Found 2 problems with this phone so far. The micro SIM sits loosely in the micro SIM holder. So sometimes when receiving calls, due to the vibrator, the SIM contact gets loose and the phone reboots itself. Fixed it by placing a small piece of paper behind the SIM card. 2nd problem is sometimes when making calls, you can't end the call and the phone hangs. Have to do a reboot to fix it. Otherwise, it is a really nice phone.

1 more thing. The first time I tried to use the phone's WiFi to connect to my WiFi router, it always cannot connect. Even after a phone reset. You need to turn on the battery saver mode first, then it will connect successfully. Its probably due to some missing registry entries.

I can fully agree with you on the hardware side of Samsung despite their advancement for their display screen (which they are promoting heavily). I'm not so into HTC myself, it isn't fair for me to comment though. As for Nokia, how can the rest fight with Nokia in terms of Hardware? Since back in the late 90s & early 2000 hay-days, their phone is considered one of the toughest one out there. I can knock my 3310 on a person's head until bleed man... tongue.gif

Nokia's hardware is good, but I think Windows Phone OS needs to be more beautiful and functional. Make it more like desktop Windows: let me change the wallpaper, add screensaver, file manager, etc.

Yeah that is what I am afraid of. Lack of file manager and whatnot. I don't really need to change the wallpaper or

screensaver (I have my Nexus One to do that, and I don't think I need that kind of customisation anymore). All I

want is better battery life (I miss my E72) and better basic functionality (emails, texting, Whatsapp, Viber). To each

his own I guess, but I really like the design on Nokia and Sony's phone (the latest ones).

I thought that the win phone os was ugly at first, but after a while you'll find that it's so functional that all the customisations are just unnecessary distractions. You can however customise more if you jailbreak or unlock the phone. I've never found a file manager necessary on my phone, just the same as i never needed a file manager on my ipad either.

My wishlist for Windows Phone
- Copy music without using Zune. Use open standard like USB or even Microsoft's MTP. I mean even iPhone supports MTP, a Microsoft format, to transfer images.
- Support more media formats natively. Since Microsoft likes to boast that it integrates a lot of built-in funtionality, they should make Windows Phone a media powerhouse that can play almost any format (OGG, MP3, FLV, WAV, AVI).
- I want more customization options for the homescreen at least. Otherwise my phone doesn't feel as personal, since it's like everybody else's phone. I mean even my iPhone 4 lets me change wallpaper.
- Free and open SDK. Microsoft wants more developers? They should give an Express version of their compiler/SDK for free (like their desktop Windows) and let people write and install their own applications on their phone without needing jailbreak/chevron.

I'm not sure if they started selling it but display units are already available at Nokia Suria KLCC. Was just there today. Was so busy trying it out i forgot to ask anyone for price and stuff lol.

GUYS, you have to understand, the beauty of Windows Phone OS is it's simplicity itself. Yes a lot of people have difficulty understanding that and some will hate it because of it. But that's how it's made to be. Simple, typography based. I wouldn't change anything about the UI at all honestly.

As far as customization is concerned, you can change the wallpaper of the lockscreen and tile colours. You can set the tiles in any way you want as well. You're never gonna find 2 windows phones that look exactly the same.

Loved the smoothness in the UI of the Lumia 800. Could tell the difference from my Radar immediately. hahaha.

I think the only thing that Lumia 800 lacks is a front facing camera. Otherwise it would be perfect.

Yes the tools are free but the developer and market license to deploy to devices is not. Since it is essential to test on hardware, Microsoft should just give that ability for free.

One reason why Google's Android grew so fast is that you can create your own programs and deploy to your any phone for free by just copying the program APK to your phone via USB/Bluetooth.

Developer can install onto iOS devices too after jailbreaking. That is why these two can have so many apps.
But again. Symbian can install too right using .sis files but look where it is. doh.gif

I do still think it's still generally early to get a WP7. Still has a lot of room to grow. Kinda like when iPhone 1st gen came out. hahaha.

That being said, i don't regret getting my Radar. I didn't bother waiting for the Lumia because of the price point and the lack of front facing camera.
Still a bloody good phone though.

It'll be a nice surprise if we see Marketplace launching at the same time, but I'm gonna say there's no way that's gonna happen!

The lady at the Nokia store in Pyramid hinted there would be freebies, she mentioned point blank that in sg got give out xboxes... but wouldn't say if we get anything like that :S

I'd still like to be there for the launch, would be fun smile.gif

With Maxis supporting Windows Phone Marketplace, customers can now purchase from over 60,000 apps and will be charged via the Maxis phone bill.

Support Marketplace but don't support the OS itself?

I think Maxis (and all the other carriers) should seriously create web versions of their VSC/USM/Star code thingy, since *100# completely doesn't work on WinPho. (and won't work on iPad too since you can't dial)

QUOTE
The official retail price of the Nokia Lumia 800 is RM1650 and the Nokia Lumia 710 is priced at RM999. Please ignore the estimated pricing that we revealed previously.

RM1650 does seem like a very competitive price. The old estimate was definitely too high, because if they ever introduce the Lumia 900, it would have to be priced well above that of the iPhone.

Carrier biling information sounds weird, shouldn't be enabled just like that without MAlaysia being a valid country. Oh well.. we'll see.

Not as good as a free xbox : /

It's really too bad that the Lumias still don't have Internet sharing enabled. Renders it quite worthless for me since my phone is my only source of Internet connectivity. (my roommate never paid the unifi bill)

I never attempted to Bluetooth pair my phone with the laptop. Seems kinda pointless. I also have an iPad though so it needs my phones hotspot to go online. either way I'll wait for Gen 3 windows phone before upgrading

From the demo, it seems better? As I know, the SiRi seems to be having problems understanding non-american accent thing? But the demo seems it can pickup easily and accurately, but that was shot demo with short speech-lah; Have to do extensive test to find out.

Even google's voice recognition don't do so well.

I compared solely to N9 yea, cause it looks the same and also priced very similar =)

The N9 has 3 main page which you could swipe from right to left and left to right, as in, can swipe left-left-left and get back to the same page..zoom zoom..LoL happy.gif but for the 800 which I tested at Pyramid, only 2 main pages yet it kinda gets a little stuck when swiping to the next page =)

When the phone is lock/sleep mode, press and hold the shutter button for few seconds, the phone will activate camera app, focus and capture. The entire process is estimated to take around 7 seconds.

and uploading doesn't really count, some time you get a drop connections during upload.

if only capturing photo from phone lock surely wp7 will win.

wp7 - Power Off stage > press hold cam button > aim and shot = only 3sec

if ip4s - Power off stage > slide to unlock > open cam apps > aim and shot = ??

Point is all you need to do is hold the camera button the nokia lumia 800 will take the photo without going thru the process of double press home button then snap photo.

Is it officially confirmed the price for Lumia 800 and 710 are RM1650 and RM999 respectively? Are there any official or reliable source to back this claim?

Don't really matter if IP4S can do faster by incorporating camera short-cut in the lock screen, in terms of smoothness and stable, WP7 is already on par, if not better. With WP7, there's also voice recognition and command, which is not built into or available to previous IP.

Now the best yet, WP7 have people hub, which is social networks integration feature found similar in Maemo/MeeGo. It's something revolutionary, actually Nokia started it first in their Maemo OS, but because it's a Nokia, it's didn't become famous. If this invention is introduced by the famous fruit, it'll be a total different story, where they can even make something old, new and famous/special.

Android tried these kind of integration but it just didn't work as it should be, it was not truly integrated in Android and it's actually making things pretty messy and bad. I guess this is due to no standardization and not officially introduced into the core OS itself.

It was posted out as an insider info so it should be around that range and wouldn't be too much of a difference when it's launched (even if it's not as what the rumors said).

If you remember right Windows Mobile slow down few years back and suddenly came back because they took 3 years to rewrite everything again to make it fully integrated of their new Windows Phone OS

right now target is to take down RIM market share then compete with Google and Apple.

after that acquire Yahoo/Nokia/RIM and focus on better integration to windows 8 and thru Skype/Live,conquer IM market

then focus Xbox Live/Xbox 720 and beat Sony and Nintendo

Bing still have to work harder for local scout(i mean Malaysia)

Never even consider the Nokia phone until I passed by Nokia Garden and decided to just test with the Lumia 800... I was amazed by its beautiful and buttery smooth UI.

Aesthetically... this is the best for me... even compare to Iphone & any android phones ..Inside out. It is out of the box beauty. Yes I can customise it with android.. but I think I will end up customize it to follow how the windows UI look like (with lots of trouble).

Now just kinda worry if im able to live with the new OS.. I have used windows phone yearsss ago .. (O2 Mini generation tongue.gif), Then the very early Android... HTC Hero which Im still using. Then IOS Ipad...

The thing that prevents me from leaving Android is how well it integrate & sync my contacts into my Gmail account... I never have to worry about loosing my contacts... and everything is kept under just one system. and I can manage my contacts/mail directly from Gmail.

Can anyone advice how the Windows 7.5 manage its contacts? I can live with less available applications/games (ios/android) since I can play games & browsing on my ipad. Now I need a phone that works much more like a phone.. in a good way...so social integration and contacts become the major concern.

@clivengu,

the best OS i've ever use in my entire smartphone history.. i can 100% assure you Windows Phone 7 work much much much better than WinMo.

the true is, since day 1 i use my HD7 and it only hang after 9month while i try to messing up with the jailbreak things and now HTC Titan!! its been 2month No Hang or laggy.

Yes, All contact will sync to gmail or live mail, and can edit using your desktop, can even add country calender ..etc
many more..

me, i have 2 group of contact
Gmail Primary Contact
Live Mail Secondary Contact

i even link my wife contact to my wp7, who know 1 day she forgot to bring her phone while all her contact are link with my wp7 she can simply call her friends family using my wp7.

the speciality of the Nokia phones is the contact sync i tested. It can sync your contact from any of your device you named it android, iOS, blackberry and etc.

The new windows phone is totally strip from complex to simplify thats why it doesnt need a dual core for a start.

WP7 its Windows Phone. so, Only Windows Live going to be your primary login to WP7, Gmail secondary
no need to import, just signing in your gmail all your gmail contact will sync to wp7.

I'm using Gmail to store all my contacts (coz my Hotmail is screwed up with a lot of inaccurate infos created by my friends and also I added a lot of people I don't really know in WLM). I can confirm everything syncs nicely and perfectly, whatever you do on your phone will reflect nicely back into your gmail account.

Using Gmail with the native email client on WP7 is a bliss too, so no worries there. The amazing thing is I switch on push notifications for 4 emails accounts + around 10 apps for my battery life will always last me the entire day with about 2 hours of heavy web browsing. Using Samsung Omnia 7, which is a 1st generation phone which is supposedly less battery-efficient compared to the new generation WP7 like Nokia Lumia.

Indeed, only Blackberries have 'true' push technology. But that doesn't mean that Microsoft's push system is bad, in fact it is very close to Blackberries in terms of speed and battery life. Though maybe it could work a little bit more on its reliability (sometimes gotta wait for 2nd email before the 1st email is pushed).

All Android and iPhones use Microsoft's push technology.

question is simple how does it know when there is a new mail? from my understanding its interval so when it sync there no mail and when there mail it only sync.

Only blackberry have the instantly push
*
If you connect to a standard Email server, the refresh will be interval based. If you connect to a server which using the proper Exchange sync method, then you get Push notification.

that a lady hand, for man should be fine L900 carry 4.3", my Titan 4.7" doesn't even feel large in my hand. any size within 4 ~ 4.7" still acceptable as smartphone, beyond 5" is tab.

WP7 its Windows Phone. so, Only Windows Live going to be your primary login to WP7, Gmail secondary
no need to import, just signing in your gmail all your gmail contact will sync to wp7.
*
QUOTE(xcen @ Feb 6 2012, 06:43 PM)

*
This is GREAT hearing it from someone with the same case! I have abandoned my hotmail a decade ago due to too many spam and I dont even remember my login/password.

*
For Nokia's WP smartphone, currently, there will be 2 EXCLUSIVE app integrated into all Nokia WP smartphone, which is:
1. Nokia Drive
2. Contacts Transfer - Nokia claims this allows you to connect to ANY device via bluetooth to sync and transfer all the contacts.

As for social integration, that you need to worry LEAST. Android social integration is a failure, messy and complicated. The first one who done this and properly is actually Nokia, in the Maemo OS. The integration was the best, everything in 1 place.... Now, WP7 has done similar integration as well, where they call it People Hub. I haven't truly tested this one yet, but should be similar concept, unlike Android.
I believe Android problem is there's no standardization, and it's not actually introduced and done in the core OS itself. They allow others to add it, thus it become too many variants, messy and complicated; Even the contacts feature itself, you have different variants, functions/features between different providers (Sony, HTC, Samsung). This is not a good thing, example: HTC Contacts have many functions/features, but Sony has like very very basic one (cannot even customize the contact display)... this is just such a simple thing... It should've been implemented properly to the core OS itself as a standard.

advanced payment must be paid no matter what.

Conclusion advance payment is how much the difference between the phone and RRP price you need to pay

They afraid you might run away with the phone or do something watever. So you must pay they will slowly deduct the advance payment monthly until its finish

yup, everymonth digi will deduct 68 + your call usage..etc . But if your bill usage exceed 250 Digi will 100% waive the internet 68 from your bill.

or bill usage reach 150 they will also discount 50% from your internet 68.

The Radar's a pretty good device. You just need to ask yourself do you want to give up the front camera for more storage space, 8MP camera and a nicer screen.

Do note that Lumia's still can't perform internet sharing though.

I think it would be quite competitive between AP and Ori price.. now that the Lumia800 is out, so tempted to jump-ship to Lumia800..but from what I tested the other day at Pyramid's Nokia store, N9's is more fluid..

Which part of Lumia 800 is not fluid? Through my experience all of the native apps included are 100% smooth and fluid. It's just 3rd party apps sometimes not as smooth as I expect it to be.

in term of speed, it is smooth as iphone 4S. but in term of raw performance, SII and 4S is better. screen size, SII>Nokia 800>i4S. in term of application, windows marketplace is catching up app store and android market, but you can find famous apps like Whatsapp. What Nokia 800 have is Nokia Drive, unlike its competitor that need 3rd party apps gps navigation to install

Depends what you want. iPhone 4s If u are an app person.

Windows phone have something all this phones never have is their fully integration and tile screen with simplicity. The people hub integrates everything you have into your contacts shows everything about one person rather than you need different apps to display it

That's my opinion

You take photo of text and it will convert them to digital text. There two lumia 710 estimates below 1k and lumia 800 about 1.5 to 1.7k

Lumnia is basically a BETTER iPhone, stable, smooth and reliable like iOS, but offer more feature than iOS, with social networks integration found in Maemo/MeeGo (People Hub), homescreen, more customization; Basically, it's a better iPhone with almost the same restrictions and limitation, it's just lacking in Apps/Games.

SII running Android, it's very different from iPhone/Lumnia. It's better to compare against Symbian. It provides flexibility, customization and many other things.

So, it depends what you want. Simplicity, smoothness, reliability, easy to use? Or Flexibility, Customization?
With Android, you need to first learn how to use it (but you only learn once, even if you find it hard at first); You also need to bear with the issues and problems and understand what's going on, e.g. as you customize and add more things, it may cause your device to slow down or lag, you need to understand what's wrong, etc. Basically, you need to be a more educated or better user.

If you need something that's less issue, easy, simple and smooth, and don't bother about the OS capability/restriction; the Windows Phone is a very good choice. In any way, it's better than the iPhone, except the Apps/Games department for now... and possibly, the "brand" name if you're brand conscious type of person.

The Radar's a pretty good device. You just need to ask yourself do you want to give up the front camera for more storage space, 8MP camera and a nicer screen.

Do note that Lumia's still can't perform internet sharing though.
*

I have no complaints at all about Radar. It does what I need it to well enough which is mainly browsing. I'm not fussed on the screen size/quality because I'm happy enough with the Radar's. Hardly used the main camera let alone the FFC. It's the look of Lumia which is winning me over ever since I held that N9 in my hands. Now that I think about it, I might as well wait for Apollo devices to come out since aside from looks, its not much of an upgrade.

Indeed, Apollo will be a huge upgrade compared to 1st gen -> 2nd gen. What more compared to your 2nd gen -> 2nd gen in your case.

But if Nokia Drive is important for you, then you might want to consider it because I don't think Radar can currently sideload devices and ChevronLive tokens have sold out.

Maybe have to wait a while before commiting, until a fix is released by Nokia. There is still unresolved problem with battery drain on Lumia 800 and problems with not be able to end a call on Lumia 700 & 800

I believe it was taken down due to Nokia's request. No other telco is doing the sale as of yet. Also It was put up on a rush. U only see the link from the Promo flash - the link is no where to be found elsewhere. Digi only list one Nokia phone at its website. The N9. if you filter by OS - Windows Phone is no where to be found. Its actually embarassing. Hopefully Digi will do better now they are saying the following:

"Stay tuned for its GRAND arrival to digi online store"

I wonder how grand it could be - revamping digi's website to have yellow and blue boxes? tongue.gif

Yes, 4G license was awarded last year but the licensee can only exercise it come 2013. So in the meantime they only can do trail run.

But buy from the selected Nokia stores can still get other good free gift like In-Ear Purity Earphone and Microsoft Office Home + Student.

Not as 'canggih' as Purity HD Headset, but not everyone can go to queue up for the launch.

But buy from the selected Nokia stores can still get other good free gift like In-Ear Purity Earphone and Microsoft Office Home + Student.

Not as 'canggih' as Purity HD Headset, but not everyone can go to queue up for the launch.

Just got my Lumia 800.

Few questions, how to make sure my marketplace is in AU ?

2nd.
There is some problem with my back arrow. Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Wanted to go myself, but got last work minute appointment. Don't want to last minute pull my friends to queue for me.

I'll lose out this time, but the consolation gifts aren't bad too.

Me think they will have it due to the time chosen for the event. 5.30PM going to the evening. People dont normally launch product at that hour

and also the fact that Pavilion was chosen as the venue - the grand entrance - fountain area has plenty of place for a Live Tile setup
