Solution: Go back P2 SC and get everything changed free

COMMON ISSUES

Dirty Front Rims / Noisy Front Brake
Cause: Lousy brake pad that produces too much of brake powder
Solution: Change BrakePad (If you can't find Alza model, go for Waja Model)
Cost: Example Bosch PowerPlus RM55 or others, Labour outside RM20
Other Comment: Some users complaint Bosch PowerPlus makes funny noise after sometime, choose a brand that you like/confident with..

Wind Noise on Driver Side/Front Left Passenger Windows
Cause: <80km/j - improper rubber lining at windows/door; >110km/j - aerodynamic problem
Solution: complaint to P2 SC, or DIY refer HERE
Cost: If under warranty - FOC from P2

Rear Break Noise
Cause: Dirty Drum Break
Solution: Ask P2/ garage outside to clean for you
Cost: Depending how good your relationship with the foreman is

Noisy Cabin
Cause: Bad Soundproofing and Noisy Stock Tyre
Solution: Change Tyre and Install Sound proof
Cost: For tyre, can try Continental CC5 195/55/R15, RM200+/pcs; Soundproof starting from hundreds to thousands depending on material and the area covered.
Other Comment: Effectiveness: (1) Tyre (2) Soundproof 4 doors>roof>front bonnet/back trunk door>flooring

Rattling sound everywhere
Cause: Uneven joint of the plastic or metal due to low quality plastic/workmanship
Solution: If you got time - rectify the area, send to P2, wait long long/ or pay your foreman/soundproof specialist to settle it
Cost: It is FOC if you got time to go P2

Steering Rack Rust
Cause: Water from aircon host direct drip onto the steering rack (Same as Myvi)
Solution: Go any P2 SC and they'll add the extra hose pipe for free
Cost: FOC by P2

Rusted Car Battery Surrounding - Click Here
Cause: Car Battery Water Leaking
Solution: Change to Maintenance Free Battery
Cost: You can DIY/ask your foreman do it/ or claim from P2 (Took 3 days)

Vibration Sound From Steering Column On Uneven Road, Especially Turning
Cause: Steering Column Problem
Solution: Only Subang Jaya P2 SC (USJ 1) acknowledge this issue.. I was referred to En.Fauzi (Sales person) & En.Padil (Technician)
Cost: FOC if they acknowledge you, so don't be so lansi when talk to them ..
Other Comment: If no parts, you have wait very long because it is ordered from technical side, is not a common parts.. you can read my post HERE

Front Bumper doesn't clip well (near headlight)
Cause: Imperfect design of front bumper joint/clip
Solution: Send back to P2 SC (Not dealer) to do adjustment. They need to open the whole bumper and adjust.
Cost: FOC by P2 or ask your foreman

Interior Car Roof Light Not Working/Slow Response
Cause: Ajar Sensor aka Door Sensor Rosak,
Solution: Get it change for free at P2 SC
Cost: FOC, I have change a few times throughout these 2 years
Other Comment: Each door has its own sensor, make sure you check all doors

Soft Car Horn
Cause: Cheap horn by P2
Solution: Change horn at car accessories shop
Cost: You got to survey yourself becoz this is not a problem for me

Loose number plate on rear trunk door
Cause: Doesn't install properly?
Solution: Screw it back yourself please, or ask P2 do it
Cost: Screw only also mau charge?

Underpower/Slow Pick Up (Cause 1)
Cause: Loosen/Too Long Throttle Cable
Solution: Tighten the throttle cable, DIYers please refer below
Cost: File complaint to P2, no charge

Idle engine torque is ~800rpm after warming up without aircon.
(Too low, engine may stop; Too high, higher petrol consumption)

3 ways to adjust (OFF YOUR ENGINE FIRST!)

1) From Engine
- This is the first solution and it is the easiest. Only go to further solutions if the result can't be achieve.
- First, touch the 1mm play string (2nd picture). If there are many rooms for it, means your car is underpower.
- Adjust the 2 screws to tighten it up.
- What if too tight? you'll see your engine idle rpm going up.




2) From Pedals
- If adjusting from engine doesn't work, go the the top of the pedals at the driver seat.
- Add whatever rubber or anything you can think off (which is safe) to tighten it up here.


3) From Floor
- Last resolve and most troublesome for me
- Open up the floor at the driver seat and cut/modify the board.


Don't speed, drive safe!

Underpower/Slow Pick Up (Cause 2)
Cause: Weak Grounding Cable Distribution
Solution: Adding Voltage Stabilizer (VS) + Grounding Cable (GC) will stabilize the electron flow among the engines and response better
Other Comment: You can try to play with petrol brand, I personally prefer BHP for it's smoothness and quietness

Underpower/Slow Pick Up (Cause 3)
Cause: Too many carbon inside your engine? Is your car already clocked 50,000km & more?
Solution: I want to try this Engine Conditioner & Engine Flush
Other Comment: I haven't use the product before.. So please try them at your own risk

Annoying Air-Con compressor, Obvious HeadLight Dims
Cause: Small battery, Weak Grounding & Alternator
Solution: VS + GC + Positive (+ve) Cable can help to reduce frequent kick in, however, note that +ve cable may void the warranty on your alternator..
Cost: Depending which brand you choose
Other Comment: I am personally using Edge VS & GC & +ve cable, you can read my comment over HERE

Gear Shift Shock
Cause: Gearbox problem. This is different from normal jerk. When engaging D or R, there's a delay of 1-2 second for gearbox to react. The gear change is very loud.
Solution: There's a batch has this problem as told by SC
Cost: FOC under warranty, not sure take how many weeks




RECOMMENDED UPGRADE (OPTIONAL)

1) Denso Iridium Spark Plug (IXU22) - P2 recommend this too
Description: Save cost in the long run. Normal spark plug (lifespan 20,000km)- RM52 (P2 SC), Denso Iridium Spark Plug (lifespan 100,000km)- RM180 (P2 SC)
Cost: RM155 with postage, Labour from P2 - FOC

2) Coil Spring Buffer - Reference Click Here
Description: To prevent rear spring reach bottom on full load, and if you think your suspension is too soft, it is the cheapest way to make it feel firmer
Cost: Around RM70/set (front & back), labour excluded

3) Front Strut Bar - Reference Click here
Description: If you want to improve handing (easier to control car movement), this is the cheapest and most effective. Personally tested. On the other hand, rear anti roll bar has no much effect, since our rear spring is torsion beam. Other bars may help but you may sacrifice passenger's comfort.
Cost: Ultra Racing Front Strut Bar - Around RM120 with installation



OTHER ISSUE (Keep in view, no harm yet) mileage up to date 70,000km
1) Sudden jerk when engaging D or reverse gear
- 40,000km and still happen sometimes, no harm yet

2) Soft engine tapping noise
- Often notice this when I just got car, only happens when 0-20kph. 40,000km now and still persist. No harm yet.


PERSONAL THOUGHT AS AN ALZA OWNER
A simple mechanism car. A lot of minor issues as listed above, but no major problem (except older batch has gearbox issue). Fun for city driving becoz of the immediate pickup (4AT gearbox), comfortable headroom & leg room, and driving vision.

Like
- Head room, leg room, driving vision, immediate pick up (4AT gearbox), handling like sedan, easy to mod

Dislike
- Rattling noise, narrow 3rd seat (this is a mini mpv), NVH is average only even after modding

For Alza forum, more members r using borsch powerplus, but I want to try ceramic nao for a change kekeke, though i never used the brakepad before

We all know that the dirty front rim is caused by the cheap brake pads P2 used. My brake pads are almost finish, any suggestion on what brake pad to use?

Just noticed got sound coming from front suspension when going over speed breakers... Endless problems...

Guys, just now this happens to me:

1. Reverse from parking lot, gear at R, press break.
2. Car stops, change from R to N. Break is still being pressed.
3. Waited a while for passenger to get in, then change from N to D4.
4. A sudden loud sound and jerk is heard. Like the gear forcefully changed from N to D4.
5. Passengers were shock, it sound so loud and jerk that all of them thought that we are hit by a car. But are no moving car in vicinity.
6. Car can move normally.

Anyone had this, or experience similar problem as this?

V2 for Alza consider not fast, not much Alza owner here in Lowyat.net

No. I tried on the spot many times. But could not reproduce it. This concerns me as I heard that alza have some issues with its gearbox, and since now it is warranty period.

What issue, i am not so sure. Sorry for my ignorance, but could anyone please tell me what is the issue? Any way to remedy this? I am overly concerned right now.

mmm very discouraging and scary reviews on the alza, i hear lotsa negatives more than positives from forumers and users.... i think ima gonna hold back on it for a little while maybe wait till next year see how, then only dare to even consider.

coz not all Alza users will get online, not all users dare to complaint or dare to give good comment, or just like to read not like to post.

this will happened to any other brand of car users also.

at least for me, this car serve its right to me .. for now lah.

tyenfei, it seems like you're not confident enough with this car...? don't get offended by my statement though...

anyhow, my conclusion stands, DO NOT BUY AN ALZA unless you have plenty of time to waste getting it stranded at Perodua SC to fix this and that, and plenty of money to fix their plunders and replace poor quality and missing parts.

My Alza has been giving me endless problems. I've already spent 4k on improving sound insulation and ride comfort (read sound insulation and ride comfort ONLY). I have to admit I'm not a DIY kinda person to do sound insulation like some of the members here, I really respect them for their efforts. But so far I'm close to achieving what I've got on this car (it means I'm gonna spend more on this guinea pig), but with 4k it can be used on something more useful. This 4k of mine is used to fix what Perodua failed to offer for an overpriced 60 grand tin can. Even a Naza Citra now going for 70 grand offers better insulation and comfort with a bigger engine capacity albeit the fuel consumption.

If you see the list of problems on the first post, my car has 80% of the issues on the list. And more coming on the way and yet to be rectified. Just look at the lousy brake pads that causes dirty rims. Perodua said it's normal, that all cars has it. Granted it's true, but is it to that extent that the rims gets charcoal black in a matter of days..? Since they offer no better solution, we poor saps have to fork out just to get better grade brake pads.

I can be sure the maintenance for this car will skyrocket once the warranty goes out. I'll be rushing to sell this piece of junk once it does, not betting on high resale value though, coz by then many people will know how lousy this car is.

I hate the pads! I spend almost 10mins just to wash em, cant imagine if they install rear disc brakes.. that will be like 20mins of scrubing of the wheels!

quite a number of ppl around me driving Alza.

2 are 1st batch, 2 are last year batch, me this year May, 1 this july (others not so close so no ideal when/ how is their car)

so far no serious problem like Eithanius = =" (touch wood ..)

the wind sound is the comment among us, my installed the isolator at SC ( but might take out when DIY sound proof ) ..

front brake pad same like my 2005 iswara easy dirty, looks like change the brake pad is the only way.

Eithanius, we shall thank Alza aren't we? troublesome but fun, or else it'll be a dead boring car

Fun for those who has the time and skills for DIYs... Unfortunately it's not me, my type of fun is the urge to drive a quiet car for no reason, and no specific destination...

Exora quiet ?? hm.... I seat at 3rd low from KL to Melaka, then from Melaka back KL... OK loh, can't really remember.

But got 1 secondary school mate bought new Exora last year end ... she complaint a lot will ask my wife what she complaint actually.

my rattling sounds came from the side of the front passenger seat's door pillar it's freaking annoying... I knw it's a hopeless battle if it is being rectified at our SC, but I will try...

by the way, our car is just less than a month...

Curious though... I read from here that more torque can be achieve by increasing the height of the gas pedal.

Has anyone else done this minor mod before...?

I did notice my sister's myvi is so torquey that it accelerates like a 2l engine with a somewhat heightened pedal - everytime I drive her car, my foot goes AWOL after extended drive...

Yes, it's a common problem I will try to find some accessory shops that can help us... it's kinda hard to find some decent shop if your a stranger

Btw, if you're the DIY type, you can get some Insulflex and dampened the B-pilar yourself... I've seen them did it, it's not so difficult actually...

At the same time you can also refer to some pics posted by wtm0325 on the previous thread, use some of the Insulflex material and fill some of the gaps that may cause rattling noises.

2. quickly switch on the aircon to 2 or 3, you'll hear a sound like when the engine is already running, we try to turn the ignition key again.


This is annoying, and it sounds like something is going to break. Anyone got this before?

I got a questions about the Alarm System.
Normally, when we lock our car it will shut down the lock &
there is a Lights blinking that shows the car is armed.

I saw there is only 1 light in the meter blinking (red), is this the indicator of my alarm is armed?

Buy my concern is, even I just switch Off the engine (while I'm still in the car), the light already start blinking. I was thinking, I'm not even press my alarm to shut the door, it already start blinking.

So, is this the Alarm Armed indicator? If not, where is the indicator?
or this car has no indicator at all?
Then, what is this light blinking about ???!!!

I too had this kind of problem before especially 10k-20k, after 20k service changing the gear oil and new plug the car doesn't jerk so frequent, will keep in view

Too big and underpowered...

Normal Spark Plug cost ard RM52 at P2 SC which can last for 20,000km, iridium spark plug can last for 100,000km which cost RM180 at P2 SC. Buy at LYN garage sales cost you RM155, do the maths yourself

Yes my alza do have this symptom. No need quick switch to 2/3, just switch on the aircon immediately from 0 to 1 when car starts (if engine is cold). The compressor sound is like very hard to breath, not sure if this normal? What says about Myvi user?

RM 155 + RM 20 for installation already RM 175...

You kat mana, me ask you do for me...

It sounded quite scary. I thought I was the only one. I am not sure it is even from the compressor, but it sounds like the sound came from the driver's side in the hood.

Just tested.
Once Switch Off the Engine Key, the ALARM LED Armed (inside the meter area) indicator started to blinking. Then move outside the car & press the Alarm remote, it is also blinking the same speed.

So, is the Alarm Indicator faulty ?

To correct my previous post, mine is the same, so no worries

Increase pedal will increase torque... that is a first...quickly patent it and sell it back to Toyota/P2 for lots of money...

Too bad, I did not think of such first otherwise I will also patent it... haiya... opps...I just realise my brain is still functional...

Some of the Alza are underpower becoz the string that connects to engine (I dunno wat u guys called) are too long. It is not meant to increase the torque from the specification, but to make the car more responsive.

Here's an updated list of problems plaguing my car:

1 Wind sound in excess of 70kph = Problem recurs

2 Loose number plate on the rear trunk door. Rattles when close = Problem recurs

3 Engine noisy inside cabin when speed in excess of 110kph = No solution provided, sound proofing issue

4 Steering veers to the left, slightly off axis at straight road = Resolved

5 Roof noisy when rains = Resolved but not satisfactory

6 Soft horn sound = No solution provided

7 Power window on driver side not smooth when in operation, jerky motion = Resolved

8 a) Gear shift from 3rd to 4th gear not smooth = Problem recurs
b) Reverse gear sometimes produces sudden strong vibration on car = Resolved

9 Low whining/whistling sound when engine is idle = No solution provided, problem not present upon testing

10 Cabin light not always turned on when car doors are opened = Resolved

11 Rattling sound of loose part near driver seatbelts on B-pillar = Problem recurs. Fixed outside

12 Rattling sound on dashboard = Problem recurs

13 Rattling sound from rear seatbelts when going over uneven roads = Resolved

14 Bluetooth not working = Resolved

15 Long distance/high speed braking not smooth, car jerky. No hard braking = Problem recurs

16 Dirty front rims (possibly caused by low-grade brake pads) = No solution provided, lousy brake pads

17 Noisy tyres = No solution provided, supplier sucks

18 Leaking water from engine compartment and exhaust, when air-cond turned on = Resolved

19 Air-cond takes time to cool cabin, not cold enough = Not solved. Cabin still not as cool as before

20 Soft knocking/tapping sound on engine when accelerating between 1 - 1.5k rpm after driving for some distance. Noise is also present when car is stationary and engine revved at the same rpm range = Problem recurs

21 Air-cond knob can get stuck between "1" and "2" = No solution provided, common problem

22 Rubber frame on left side front door does not fit perfectly = Resolved

23 External door handles too stiff = Resolved

24 Scratches on surface of car on every sides = New problem from Service Center

25 Rattling sound from third row seat, loose board on back of seat = New problem

26 Stationary and speed brake pedal vibrates when front wiper is running = New problem

27 Steering rack vibrates and noise on uneven roads, especially when turning = New problem

28 Front suspension noise when going over speed breakers = New problem

29 Loud burst sound, kinda like farting or sneezing sound when turned on air-cond. Happens when the car strolls for about 2 minutes from a minute-long engine warm up with fan running at level 2 low cooling factor. Can feel the car vibrates with the burst sound = New problem (So far only 1 instance)

If I am not wrong, the red light usually indicate that the immobiliser part of the alarm is on. Do check if your car has an immobiliser.

For Honda cars, you will get this red light blinking due to the arming of the immobiliser. You do not need to turn on the alarm.

8 - it does not... Alza forum member say it may have something to do with tightening the pedal string... :blur:

BTW, how is the average FC for alza? I'm looking between this and the Myvi 1.5.

My wife Myvi EZI now is going to be 6yrs old soon and FC is about 9-10KM/L or RM50 for 250km. 90% for residential area drive ie to/from school and lots of idle and waiting time. Everyday almost 45m to 1hr waiting. If I drive it to highway, it get pretty decent about 12km/l.

So if the Alza able to hit above 12km/l on normal city drive, at least it should be better than Myvi 1.3 otherwise I will get the Myvi 1.5

As for all the problem listed for Alza, I say a lot of them you having wrong expectation....You will most of the problem even for 200-300k car...

Then perhaps you can find me a car with that price range that exhibits all of my 28 problems above...

and I don't think a car with that price will have that problem on the very top of the list...

This is about QC issue here, don't compare with expensive cars...

BTW, does the Alza come with a DVD/GPS system? Some months ago, I remember they have this little detachable GPS cum reverse camera on the driver side glovebox which I find a bit silly. I rather have something like the Mvyi version..

I can find many expensive car that have more than 28 problems you listed... some are a lot more serious than your 28. Some of the issue you highlight is childish....wind noise, roof noise from rain, dirty front wheels, ac not cold enough, tyre noise,....

You have a choice...if you hate it so much, just go to consumer tribunal and ask for a refund and replacement since you seem have so intune on what wrong with your alza...

or top up and get another car...

Oopss... step on some nerve.... dude... take a chill pill and just look at your Alza problem objectively and perhaps you will understand why you come across as being childish. You may not think you are, but the way you put it across certainly come as one...

Then I seriously suggest you consider other models, better still other brands of cars. Who knows, if you get an Alza, very likely you will encounter my problems, and then you'll start becoming childish like me...? Being a family man like yourself, I'm sure you can afford something better for your wife and children (if you have them). Unlike me a childish kid who cannot afford big cars, I can only afford lousy cars, hence a lousy childish attitude...

Don't say I didn't save your ass from plunging your money for god-knows-what...

I have owned almost all P2 car except for Rusa, Kembara, and Alza for last 15 yrs. Some bought for sister, mom, and wife.. and they have never failed me.

Wife only wanted small car for easy parking and low maint. I love the Myvi too when I go pasar malam or KL downtown where too many fender bender...

For the price, and having own many other car, you have a more realistic view on what is reasonable expectation and what not. I have seen my buddy BMW needed a new engine, GB, and what not... and constant niggling factors... ECU failure, ratting pillar, creaking seats,..... horrible ride for the family and what not...

I have always received great service and repair from P2. They even replaced my front disc on the 4th year... when I ask them to...

Given the history and ownership record, I'm sure no issue but they always lemon anyway. Heck even in Myvi forum there are plenty of whiners too...but why they still buying it... same goes with Alza...

If you wanna compare, yes I have also owned and driven 4 other Perodua car for the last 8 years, starting with the Kembara, and 3 MyVis, two of the pre-FL, and the recent FL version. If you doubt my story, you can check my previous posts. I have no or less problems with those cars. My Alza is the fifth, so as you can see, it is because of my previous purchase history (and like you) that I went for the Alza in CASH.

Boy imagine how wrong I was when the problems came cropping up one by one. It has given me nightmares, worse was the gearbox change that left my car stranded for more than a month. And I'm not alone, read around and you get same problems with other Alza owners. My fifth car with Perodua, I felt like my trust for Perodua has been misplaced.

I've even heard rumors that Alza QC suffered because Perodua rush production just to meet datelines to compete with Exora. If that's the case, then Perodua owes us an explanation for that poor QC on the Alza. I would even wanna bet on the QC for the 2nd-gen Myvis suffers as well. Both me and Perodua tech guys have grown tired of each other over my endless complaints now that they tell to return only when my third service comes, and that comes from those people in Perodua HQ Rawang. Is that the kind of service you expect...?

If you wanna buy Alza, reconsider. If you are adamant about it, welcome to your worse nightmare. People say forget about Perodua fixing your problems, and mod or DIY to perfection. How much are you willing to spend on that...? I've spent 4 grands on sound-proofing alone coz I have sensitive ears, I'm a major in audio...

+1 to the BMW part. Peace of crap. And the particular BMW I've experience is a sports series... but cacat when driving and seriously lots of wear and tear. Every month something breaks down.

300km mainly in KL city drive
if special jam (concert/soccer times) case & wait till nuts, i think around 250km

em.. my counting about RM0.15~RM0.188/ KM .. depends on city drive or highway.

Let compare with exora. but at least half of the Eithanius small QC problem doesnt exist. and both are 60k+/- car oso.
Currently mileage at 18k age 8months+ headlamp burn driver side. I cant blame QC problem coz is wear n tear. jz i no luck. it is under warranty? or change butt by my cost?

I believe luck is an issue ... but QC is a must ..

so far another 4 close friends around me with their Alza no serious problem like bro Eithanius. 2 units very 1st batch, 2 units last year bath and my is this year May. But mainly are wind sound issue.

Do understand the frustrating after bought something and totally out of expectation.. really sorry to hear that from Eithanius, but also thanks for the sharing.

don't go for any MPV if want fuel saver still city vios are better in term of FC.

RM60K range mini MPV? em .. Alza, Citra ... only these i check before I purchase. Other will be Exora (auto ), Avanza ( 70k +/- ) and Livina ( RM85K +/- )

Wait for the EV cars, but surely they won't be 60k price lo. We all alza drivers, help one another. Those without problems, try to stand in those with problems and feel for them. And those with problems, fair enough you voice your issues here and we all try to help out, but all readers are humans, sometimes we don't like seeing others write too many bad stuff, harsh stuff about the things we like.

Cut long story short, there is no point in arguing whether the sky is dark or the sun is out. It depends on your angle. Love our brothers and sisters, write with more sensitivity in mind. Perhaps spitting out how you feel is not wrong, but others might not like your tone. So be kind to one another, writer or reader. Peace!!

If it is anybody's fault, it is the govt's fault for wanting to produce national cars and therefore imposing high taxes on foreign brands. After 20 over years, we still have no enjoy any low cost cars. So blame it on the person who started the national car project. You know who is the person?

if want best QC, get a japan car which assembled in japan itself. All the old toyota, where got so much complaint 1? They were assembled in japan and fully imported, until they set factories here and all the problems start

Btw Eithanius, when you want to change to CC5? it's ard RM200/donut for 195/55/R15, klang might can get cheaper

Going to be in between jobs by next month... Hopefully next month got extra funds for all 4 donuts... else have to wait end of the year...
