how many maximum lan cable can plug in to stock router ?

If I'm not mistaken it's 4 LAN cables (minimum 3), but if you need more you can always hook it up to a network switch.

Hi all,

Just installed Unifi VIP20 and have a question regarding IPTV.

Currently I can watch IPTV with direct connection to Port 4 on my Dlink 615. If I connect the Port 4 Dlink to my switches on at 2nd floor and link it to ground floor, I cannot access to IPTV anymore. My house is fully linked with Cat6 cables and link to 2nd floor switches.

Is there any solution to watch the IPTV thru switches? Thanks

IPTV works fine through switches. If you're connecting it to your existing wired network, what I'm guessing is .. IPTV utilizes its own private network on VLAN600 which is mapped out on port 4. You have a DHCP server running for your private LAN on your wired network, STB picks up the private IP from the DHCP server on your network rather than at the TM side and it doesn't connect.

You need internal VLAN tagging + VLAN capable switches to run IPTV + Internet over the same wired network.

Dear Rizvanrp,

Thanks for the information and I am sure it is useful. Could explain more about the VLAN tagging + VLAN capable switches? Which switches is suitable eg: TP Link? What feature I need to aware when buying the switches. Currently I am using this model from TP http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/prodeta...03030403&id=768 . Please advise.

Or is there any workaround on the setting in STP or router? Thanks

Hey ASAP,

That particular switch is a basic layer 2 switch without any VLAN capability. You're probably going to want to look for a setup like this : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1733801

That setup utilizes the RB750 + RB250GS smart switch but it should also be possible with any other switch that has 802.1q support and tagged VLAN management options. They cost more than the standard switch you're using at the moment. Basically, you keep the IPTV traffic encapsulated in VLAN600 on your home network then untag it next to the STB + TV. Other users just use homeplugs so send the IPTV data around.

---

As for workarounds.. I don't think there are any other workarounds that you could perform on the DIR-615 router to enable you to use your current setup.

u only connect dlink port 4 to the switch? or there are other port from dlink(1,2,3) connect to the same switch as well? if on port 4 is connected then the switch should be running on vlan 600 only. It should be able to transfer the vlan over. Are u able to connect to your PC using the switch port? By default u shouldn't since port 4 from dlink had been separated for other vlan 500 port, unless there are other port connected on the switch and running on DHCP server as mention from riz, then ur IPTV won't know how to get the exact IP from vlan 600.

Nice, very nice. I understand that Asus is coming up with dual-band routers. Is there, if you would happen to know, an Asus model that supports dual-band? 5ghz is kind of necessary with so many 802.1b/g/n around and the fact that 2.4ghz has only 3 usable channels don't help.

Hi,

Could you show me a switch in this website can do the trick, http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/prolist.aspx?mid=01030304? Basically I need 24 ports, gigabit and link aggregation for my NAS and of course VLAN capability. Thanks.

I have one question. I have two Unifi IPTV. Can I watch IPTV at the same time? Thanks

u just need to buy/get a switch that says "Managed Switch" .. prefer to have the word Fully/Full Managed Switch.. or a

"Web Smart Gigabit Switch" for tplink.. not sure whey their managed switch in divided into websmart n manage...

another keyword to search is "Supports Port-Based VLAN and IEEE 802.1Q Tag VLAN " on the switch...

please know as we dont know the product we do nt know how the configuration will be.. it will be up to you... to fiddle it urself..

regarding ur IPTV.. possible for SDTV but not for HDTV as i think unifi iptv channel is 8mbits top... and hdtv is already taking 8mbits
