Finally, TP-Link TL-WR841ND V7.x compatible issue with Huawei HG655a VDSL has been identified & resolved!! rclxms.gif

I would like to thank the following persons for this whole trouble-shooting effort:

To IceBrew, for your continuous help to test & capture data for many rounds for the past few weeks, truly appreciate your patient & effort! notworthy.gif

To TP-Link, for the special arrangement to purposely fly down 2 engineers just to trouble-shoot on-site. Your company has once again demonstrated strong customer support & full commitment to work with any user closely to resolve localised issue. Honestly, this is something I've never seem before, especially for the current small market like UniFi in Malaysia. My respect to TP-Link, please keep up the great support effort! notworthy.gif

To Rizvanrp, for your in-dept technical knowledge to quickly identify the root cause! Trust me, I was thinking we might have to spend long hours on this, I'm completely lost by looking at your Linux computer screen sweat.gif and yet you can still tell us the root cause in less than an hour, you are really rock man, truly amazing!! notworthy.gif thumbup.gif

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, my layman understanding it was due to some kind of "Echo send ~ Echo receive" issue between the router client & Tm's server end. Actually no modification on the beta firmware is needed, just have to change the following settings:
Network --> WAN --> "Advanced"
Attached Image

Hope this issue can now put to rest, any HG655a VDSL high-rise users if you are not happy with the DIR-615 can now consider this all-in-one complete replacement option.

Once again, thank you all for your great effort, cheers!! biggrin.gif

Why not consider RB750/750G straight?

Thanks klseet!

One question, will TL-WR941ND be supported (TPlink custom firmware) for unifi with IPTV?
*
Unlikely, may be for higher end TL-WR1043ND, their engineers are extremely busy, I'm still pushing them, hope something will come out soon .....

I'd want to if Landasan still has stocks .. but having pfsense ever since streamyx, I would prefer to continue using it wink.gif

edit : btw bro klseet, is this option suppose to be a "keep-alive" parameter?

edit 2 : besides that, still can't guarantee a RB750G could work without encountering this issue sad.gif
*
Sorry I'm not familiar with Pfsense, from my understanding, it's something to do with the PPP client session which need to send the Echo first, then only the server will response, interval seem need to be at around 30 seconds, and if no response around 4mins, the server will kill the session.

I don't have such issue on DD-WRT TL-WR941ND, so I guess the DD-WRT could have already in-build this Echo sending automatically, whereas such setting in TP-Link is under WAN-->Advanced which can be configured manually. I believe RB750/750G should have no problem with this, will do some test later to re-confirm.

Btw, you may also check out Soliton SG for MikroTik product, price list at front page or here nod.gif

Just wanna know whether IPTV is working with ddwrt or not.
*
If I'm not wrong, currently we can use DD-WRT (Atheros or Ralink chip only) to create higher vlan ID 500 and assign to wan port for internet only, still unable to create another vlan 600 for IPTV. Broadcom chip can create multiple vlans and tag to ports, unfortunately the Broadcom chip cannot handle vlan ID more than 2 digits I guess:

Previously when I saw so many people complained about the DIR-615, I equally wonder why, so I tried to dig more info.....

I was referring here
it seem like the DIR-615 has many different models running on both Ralink & Atheros chipset:
C1, C2 = Atheros AR9130@400
D1, D2, D3, D4 = Ralink RT3052F@384
E1, E3, E4 = Atheros AR7241@400

The DIR-615 from TM is model G1 & G2, runs on RT3052F@384
The G1 FCC ID: KA2DIR615G1
Indicated that the antenna gain is only 1.8dBi .... sweat.gif

The TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND runs on Atheros AR7241@400, FCC ID: TE7WR841NXV7
The antenna gain is 5dBi .... smile.gif

This probably explained why the WR841ND can easily out perform the DIR-615 Gx anytime cool.gif

I could be wrong, many said Ralink is already a "sunset" chip whereas Atheros by far is already world no.1 chip.
TP-Link seem to enter some kind of global-pack with Atheros, they are working very closely on both current products in the market as well as R&D new products.
As for Broadcom chip, rather quiet also .....

Well, it appear very clearly that TM only want to deal with D-Link on the rather out-dated & low-performance chip ... cool2.gif

Anywhere, guess that words like "improvement, efficiency, transparency, customer first ...." are always "prohibited" in TM's culture .... whistling.gif

In order for the port forward to work properly, please take note you need to specify the Out-Interfaces on srcnat and In-Interface on dstnat

Well surprisingly my G1 is rather good, I toss all kind of stress, torrent, IPTV at the same time, but it still doesnt wanna break, One day I call TM to check my telephone line problem, that TM technician come "stole" it from me by exchanging it to G2. G2 is working pretty well now. I never really have a chance to use my RB250GS and 750G.  tongue.gif
Bro, don't regret la, IT technology & experience keep evolving ma, who knows later you will also regret on the RB750G tongue.gif
If I really look at my store room, I have many "regrets" then .... wink.gif

I'm sure you find the need for RB250GS, may be like JinXXX's guide on vlans truncking brows.gif

Yes, I'm pretty sure, that's the statistic captured by my RB750.
Actually I didn't download all the time and just leave the uTorrent on, that could be the reason the upload is always higher than download .... hmm.gif

hey guys...

anyone using Tplink WR841ND manage to get their torrent works. i enabled upnp but torrent fails to work. i did port forward also failed
*
Assuming you mean to download, you may need to:

1. assign your PC (which is going to download) with a fix IP
Note: try to assign higher port on your torrent download program, i usually use 50xxx and above

2. setup port forward on the router:
Attached Image

I usually turn-off UPNP

This should work smile.gif

I slept earlier last night, this morning wake up noticed IP changed already, check the log and noticed that:

It seem like UniFi is down around mid-night 1am for about 10min yawn.gif

I thought something BIG is going to happen, worry about TM started some kind of throttling, so quickly check uTorrent:

Phew, nothing happen, "business" still as usual sweat.gif
This month rather busy, so lesser download, only downloaded about 150GB up to now tongue.gif

Strange thing is, I can get 110x IP rather easily, really don't know what happen during that 10min at TM's exchange ... blink.gif

Is the 110 IP range better? Only got it once since my UniFi was installed, after that it was always 175. sweat.gif

I could be wrong, eventhough the 175x routing has been resolved since Dec'10 outbreak, I still prefer 110x as I noticed the overall speed it's more stable compared to 175x where I experienced up & down speed occasionally, especially torrenting.

QUOTE(cannavaro @ May 17 2011, 08:42 PM)
Eh, TM was pissed off with them for releasing that firmware? Do they even have the right to stop any company from coming out with a unifi compatible router anyways?

QUOTE(Neptern @ May 17 2011, 09:04 PM)
Why the hell would tm wanna stop tplink from doing unifi compatible router?
*
Cool down bro, just my guessing only.

Well again, I won't be surprised such thing could happen, judging from the fact that TM insist us to use that DIR-615 Gx without any alternative, even after 1 year of high return rate. Worst, TM still refuse to give any option, that DIR-615 Gx practically been forcing down to us ranging from basic home to corporate. mad.gif

If TM seriously care about users & expanding the market, they could just invite all the manufacturers, give them all the detail spec to manufacture that special UniFi router, may even select top 3 vendors for competitive reason and give few more options for users to choose.

Sadly, TM choose to do it on a rather unusual yet not transparent manner, no street fight, just the D-Link DIR-615 Gx, period. cool2.gif

As I said earlier, router devices can never be TM's core business, they should indeed focus on delivering good & affordable bandwidth to Malaysian, rather than forcing & limit users on choice of equipment, and ends up everyone jamming up & waiting on that chargeable 1300x support hotline, how ridiculously & unreasonably done !!

End of the day, as I said earlier, efficient+transparent+customer first will never be in TM's present culture, we just have to live with it ..... doh.gif

Honestly, I would rather urge TP-Link not to release the official firmware to save the trouble, and at the same time also to urge others to continue sourcing for alternatives rather than depending on TM. icon_rolleyes.gif

What did the log said? (under System Tools --> System Log)

Hard reset the device first, then apply the firmware and default setup file as mentioned in cannavaro's post above.
Please ensure you enter the PPPoE user ID & password correctly, it's case sensitive, assigned from TM upon registration, under the "High Speed Internet - Resident - xx Mbps" section.

Previously only the Huawei HG655a VDSL was having problem, it was resolved by setting the 30 seconds WAN online interval check.
So far I haven't came across Alcatel complaint, I supposed it should work smile.gif

Btw, if you want to use the DIR-615 as bridge, please ensure you hard reset the TL-WR841ND and flash back the stock firmware:

Yes, the TL-Wr841ND custom firmware has been hard-coded with vlan.500 tagging for WAN PPPoE and vlan.600 on Port1 for IPTV.
You don't need to worry about those vlans, just setup the usual PPPoE and SSID will do, all the features & functions still the same as stock firmware smile.gif

oh.. so we can't change the vlan tag from the unit itself? as what i can see from dir-615, we can meddle with the vlan tag and port mapping as it's 1 of the option in the box.

so the tp-link firmware is still under beta testing and not finalize yet?

another question, the huawei (black color) BTU got 4 LAN port, what can we do with the rest of the port? Was thinking of using the port as well, is it possible? and anyone know the default user and password for the box as i would like to go in and have a look on what can be configure there.

thanks...
*
That custom firmware is meant for UniFi only and do not have the option to change the vlan & re-map like the DIR-615.
You may consider the RB250GS or RB750/750G if you want to re-rag or re-map ports.

Well, whether it's beta or custom, that firmware is good to use for UniFi now nod.gif
I don't really bother whether it's released officially by TP-Link and/or certified by TM icon_rolleyes.gif

Assuming you are talking about the Huawei HG850a GPON for landed property, there is really nothing much to play around, it's TM's property, better don't around or mess with it. If you still want to go-in, do some search on past postings wink.gif

@ckboon,

RB250GS is a managed switch:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=6&Itemid=4

RB750/750G is a managed switch + full function router gateway:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=5&Itemid=5

@-zen-
If your WAN router gateway able to support vlan tagging (3 digit) on port level, then you may use it to dial directly through BTU.
If not, then you may consider either:
1. configure the DIR-615 as bridge according to Rizvanrp's guide
2. get a managed switch like RB250GS or others to handle the vlan tagging

...Does it make much difference that my side is biz-5 package.
... so is there anywhere to purchase this DIR-615 router?
The vlan tagging is the same for both VIP (home) & BIZ (company) package, only think it's VIP home has additional vlan.600 for IPTV.

I don't think you can get the DIR-615 Gx at retail market except from TM, I guess that's the reason they are trying to protect their "business" cool2.gif

For me, I personally prefer to go with RB750 or RB750G (Gigabit) for some key reasons:
- the RB750/750G is really robust with tons of features & functions, Linux base, frequent firmware upgrade & it's really easy "drag n drop" through WinBox;
- can just leave it on together with BTU 24hrs permanently;
- use any existing wifi router or buy own prefer wifi to configure as AP, only switch on if needed;
- wifi upgrade may be inevitable, so moving forward only consider wifi bandwidth upgrade without the hassle of re-setup router gateway again, who knows by end of this end the 450~500MB become more popular and affordable ?!

Anywhere, just my personal preference, take your time to evaluate and choose the right combination base on your requirement icon_rolleyes.gif
