ASUS RT-N13U Ver B1

If I'm not wrong, the custom firmware is still not release anywhere yet, still in testing stage, so I believe those units out there are still stock, NOT for UniFi yet.

I'm probably one of them who is helping to test out based on my Huawei HG850a BTU, need more time to play around further and feedback to ASUS engineer, so please be patient !  nod.gif

For those who sincerely want to help out testing, you may email me and take it offline: klseet@gmail.com

Please take note I don't own the firmware and I don't sell the product either, you buy & use it completely at your own risk. smile.gif

My whole intention is to source for as many alternatives as possible rather being forced & limit by TM on just 1 particular supplier with just 1 particular model only.
I personally don't welcome such no-value yet dirty monopoly tactic, I simply don't like to be told what meat to eat only shakehead.gif

Hope others will also try to source and share experiences around !  icon_rolleyes.gif

That's really good to know. I really like the feature it has.

For those who are still using the ugly stock router , here are some tips on making it somewhat stable

1. Disable Firewall (yep , both SPI inbound and outbound)
I've found that that by disabling the firewall , the router runs faster and heavy downloads no longer causes it to hang. However it comes with a heavy cost - being naked in the Internet. Software Firewall can come into play such as Zone Alarm

2. Disabling 802.11n and making it 802.11b/g only
802.11n just does not work well at all. Ive noticed that some of my ancient devices such as my Palm handheld (it only has a 802.11b card) does not work with the router at all (despite setting it to WEP). After making it 802.11b/g , things are just bit faster when connecting from WiFi

These are just some tips. I highly recommend you turning off the crappy firewall. Its just horrible

Have firewall on and don't see any issues despite heavy usage by a number of computers. But then again DIR-615 is bridged to my own router who handles the wireless clients. I suspect the wireless side to take a toll on the DIR-615 and seems to contribute noticeably to some of the problems reported here. With wireless off DIR-615 seems fine so far tongue.gif

U meant dat casing for internal fiber or RJ45?
*
i'm more concern of the fiber as RJ45 is cheap compared to fiber. Anyhow, the contractor did not install single inch of casing for either of them.

Would be great if someone can make a comparison and pros and cons between the tp link and asus router.

Does the asus download manager for torrent support download only or both downloading and seeding(uploading)? Can use a usb hub to expand the usage of the usb port?

Is the wireless range of the asus router comparable to the tp link router?
*
You can use a USB hub, but a powered hub is preferred to prevent over-drawn power from the router. I'm more interested in RT-16N with 2 USB port and 300k connection session ability.

RT-16N looks awesome and hope to see a custom unifi firmware for it if possible someday.Definitely suitable for heavy users.

The RT-N13U has internal antenna so will be be weaker than external antenna a bit or by a wide margin?

The RT-N13U's pricing still quite competitive but the RT-16N and above are actually quite pricey. sweat.gif

what sort of rebate?
*
maybe unifi can be better service to waive my first month bill after their faulty configuration that causes interrupted srvice . for almost a month long i spent some time trying to figr out the prob. tm support even suggested to upgrade new booster. miraculously, i didnt waste extra money to buy new booster or router after i got some help from lowyat members n googling. the contractor did not do a proper config by understanding the client requirement thus they set my router to fail. Now my stock router have not disconnected or interrupted ever since.

My only disappointment with RT13 is the Ralink chip inside couldn't do custom firmware. But at the price of RM180 with 3G, USB storage, download station and Asus' effort to come out with custom Unifi firmware, i guess there's nothing to complain tongue.gif

Hi Guys,

I am planning to get my place fixed with Unifi. It is an apartment block. Therefore now I am checking the coverage for my apartment unit.

I went to check for coverage but my unit is not listed in there. Some other units including the one beside mine is listed. Does that mean that I "might" have coverage as well ? For example Unit 1, 2, 4, 7 is listed in the coverage but Unit 3, 5, 6 is not. Would like to know if anyone had experience with this issue.

I don' think casing is provided for the any type of the cables.

I just wondering if there is free long LAN cable provided as mention in the form up to 15m of Ethernet cable given.. wink.gif

Ok, let say I bought the full manage switch 16 ports installed on the 2nd floor but I have another small 5 port gigabit switch downstair in living room supporting few devices. Do I need to change that switch as well to full manage 5 port switch? Thanks.
*
u needa do it the other way round. un-managed switch first then to managed switch. from the managed switch configure IPTV port to tag to vlan 600, the rest on the port should rest on the default vlan, else just configure the rest of the port as vlan 500. your un-managed now is acting as a trunk port, thought it's not. smile.gif

this is 1 of the many solution...

No need custom fw if Asus can come out with a firmware that can support UniFi. IMO

got my VIP5 installed yesterday, and configured the DIR-615 according to risvanrp and KLseet's guides. Performance seems okay with the default hardware setup, with my Synology NAS dling stuff via HTTP links >24 hours. Plan to get a HL110EP set for the STB for now, and eventually the WR1043ND to bridge to the DIR-615 and eventually replace the DIR-615 with the RB750GL...

i'm not talking bout unifi custom firmware, i do appreciate effort from manufacturer from Asus and TP-Link to come out with firmware that can support unifi natively. But open source custom firmware like DD-WRT on broadcom chips can unleash a whole new level of performance with those routers. But again, firmware like DD-WRT cant do VLAN tagging that render it useless as unifi router replacement
