If you mean the unit where the fiber/VDSL copper terminates, there's no use at the moment but the ports will be allocated to other ISPs in the future (Maxis, etc.)

i see, thanks

btw, i need a network switch if i want to connect to 5 pcs right? since the router can only support 4 pc
*
For wired, yes. The DIR-615 only support 3 PCs (4 if you remap the IPTV port back to 'WAN connection 1' I guess).

Is that true??? Can that thingy handle so many massive connection at once? Lol...
*
It's operating in bridge mode so it doesn't handle any connections really. Just Ethernet frame tagging/untagging and some SIP.

Story seems inaccurate? Not sure if the blog owner was actually at the meeting or if he copypasta'd from Prasys and MX510's discussion here : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1681516/+740

You can do so by using the forwarder made by rizvanrp. Find it in the unifi guidebook. See first page. But that sort of connection if not stable as the software is just for testing purpose. Not nicely done as it's not done by any company. You get dc quite frequently if u use the software (actually just a command line program). Still recommended to go through the router. You need to do vlan tagging on all the bits sent by ur pc and received by ur pc in order to connect to the internet.

Not nicely done as I finished it under 3 hours as a proof of concept for emergency situations and PPPoE protocol debugging tongue.gif Lol, just buy a VLAN capable switch really.

I had been using unifi for almost a year, I was using a linksys rvs4000 as a bridge. Lately my linksys fail to do vlan tag for the Internet part, iptv and VoIP are ok. I checked my linksys configuration all ok, I also check my router and the modem all are work fine. I switch back to the TM dlink router to see if it work, and to my surprise it works fine. Now I m confuse, which part of the setup goes wrong? Anyone facing this kin of problem?

Which router are you bridging the linksys with?

I was using Airport Extreme doing PPPOE with my RVS4000. It was working for about 4 to 5 months until recently. Before the Airport Extreme, I was using the Buffalo AP also doing PPPOE with the RVS4000. I checked the log on the Airport Extreme, the log didn't show much about the PPPOE. This is damn frustrating.
Now I m using the TM Dlink to do IPTV and PPPOE but without WiFi on, I let my Airport Extreme to do WiFi.

PS: Just replace my TM Dlink router, my old one got fried, now the firmware for the Dlink router is 7.09 which is sux.  tongue.gif

All 3 people who have experienced this bridging issue so far have been using Apple routers, I'm wondering why it's only affecting you guys rclxub.gif Does bridging still work with the Buffalo?

@radiikal

If you're having issues with the bridge, the easiest way to test if it's working is to hook up your computer to the DIR-615 rather than your router's WAN port. Most operating systems have an inbuilt PPPoE dialer that you can set up. If the connection works, the router has mapped the physical port to VLAN500 successfully.

QUOTE(ASAP @ May 28 2011, 11:40 PM)
Hi all,

Just installed Unifi VIP20 and have a question regarding IPTV.

Currently I can watch IPTV with direct connection to Port 4 on my Dlink 615. If I connect the Port 4 Dlink to my switches on at 2nd floor and link it to ground floor, I cannot access to IPTV anymore. My house is fully linked with Cat6 cables and link to 2nd floor switches.

Is there any solution to watch the IPTV thru switches? Thanks
*
IPTV works fine through switches. If you're connecting it to your existing wired network, what I'm guessing is .. IPTV utilizes its own private network on VLAN600 which is mapped out on port 4. You have a DHCP server running for your private LAN on your wired network, STB picks up the private IP from the DHCP server on your network rather than at the TM side and it doesn't connect.

You need internal VLAN tagging + VLAN capable switches to run IPTV + Internet over the same wired network.

Dear Rizvanrp,

Thanks for the information and I am sure it is useful. Could explain more about the VLAN tagging + VLAN capable switches? Which switches is suitable eg: TP Link? What feature I need to aware when buying the switches. Currently I am using this model from TP http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/prodeta...03030403&id=768 . Please advise.

Or is there any workaround on the setting in STP or router? Thanks
*
Hey ASAP,

That particular switch is a basic layer 2 switch without any VLAN capability. You're probably going to want to look for a setup like this : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1733801

That setup utilizes the RB750 + RB250GS smart switch but it should also be possible with any other switch that has 802.1q support and tagged VLAN management options. They cost more than the standard switch you're using at the moment. Basically, you keep the IPTV traffic encapsulated in VLAN600 on your home network then untag it next to the STB + TV. Other users just use homeplugs so send the IPTV data around.

---

As for workarounds.. I don't think there are any other workarounds that you could perform on the DIR-615 router to enable you to use your current setup.
