QUOTE(azxel @ Dec 10 2010, 02:25 PM) Well, someone said here Amazon did ship it using UPS (although was said not recommended).Still, the last time my package was held by DHL (years ago), I talk to them and told them it is movies and its for my own personal viewing. I told them if they want to tax it, go ahead but in the end, I was not charge for a tax and they release it and deliver it to me. Last I heard someone else also have the same problem. You can read it here. I am sure there is a way around it (but that is for standard packages that is being held by the kastams). But lately, this FINAS bullsh*t is just adding extra cost to your problems and hassle... and they have no right to hold your items (unless they are banned) because of own personal viewing. |

Yeah, to go there paying Petrol and toll fee is taxing and takes almost two hours (or more, depending how long spending time there) to finish everything at one go. There was a time I did use courier service to clear my packages without me going, but I have to pay RM 80 to help me get my packages and delivered to me. I did try using Pos Laju to clear for me as well ~ it cost me RM 120 (which was ridiculous) and I thought they were cheap! |

QUOTE(dariofoo @ Dec 10 2010, 10:40 AM) Watched this one last night. You got it for premium price did you? Its was like $29 bucks during pre-order and after release. I wanted to get this movie after reading the entire review at least 2-3 times, but price factor stopped me from getting this movie sooner. Might just get it anytime as i want to watch this movie badly. Yep..you're right, there's loads of French movies are far better than commercial Hollywood movies. Just action pack stuff is boring.Un Prophete (A Prophet) Academy Award 2009 nominee for Best Foreign Film. Highly-rated French movie. Critics compare it even to The Godfather. I'd agree. It was fantastic. Those who love foreign movies (non-kinky kind Something with strong story line and good play will be much interesting. Excellent short review there. Would want to see longer review of it QUOTE(valho @ Dec 10 2010, 04:34 PM) You might wanna re-post the link. Its an affiliate link. I've seen this in video shops where they display those anime DVD's. Seen this in Kotaraya & S&M. This looks like customized for shops. You can try asking them for contact. |

Just reached home after watching a "gorgeous" looking animation from Disney, "Rapunzel A Tangled Tale".
Before i start the review, i would like to recommend every blu-ray collector's to not miss this animation when it opened up for sale.Although i do not fancy 3D movies, but i have to say this movie has changed my "have no faith" on 3D movies. It was visually stunning. It dazzled me. The story, as everyone familiar with.., completely takes beyond the actual fairy tale.Maximus, the palace horse was lively and kicked a**. Eugene / Flynn character had made everyone in the hall to laugh about. Those thugs were cool with the dance and singing performance. Its entertaining and this one of a kind animation i have seen. Hats off to Disney for delivering yet another breathtaking animated movie without a fail this time. This is a VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED movie for the year 2010. A blu-ray should not be missed as well. QUOTE(maskedchan @ Dec 10 2010, 09:17 PM) It has been long since i been there.QUOTE(valho @ Dec 10 2010, 09:15 PM) They closed down couple of months ago. But i was told Kotaraya shops still alive. QUOTE(sKyWiR3pT3lTd @ Dec 11 2010, 05:02 AM) QUOTE(hairyLGS @ Dec 11 2010, 08:42 AM) I think it's worth getting, it comes with both the extended and the original cut of the movie, both in its own disc. PQ is good for such an old movie, though certain scene looks a bit grainier than others, but otherwise it looks good. AQ is good too, especially the surround sound during Regan possession part, quite freaky. Highly recommended for fans of the movie |

Very much interested in the Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy. Low98944, 9.30am, 17th Dec, our time is approximately 4.30pm 17th Dec rite? Guys, just double check, suddenly 3 of my BF shipments unable to use the 'tracking information', any idea why? Does it means it's in somewhere M'sia? My order date is 26th Nov & shipping is 29th Nov.

Mine too, I think cause it's already out of US, so untrackable. Should be in Malaysia already. |

First time I see them use envelop, but those envelope got bubble wrap inside so it's quite safe, Play-Asia always use that.
All my single BD comes in a box though, just nicely fit the BD kinda box, no padding what so ever, so if something heavy fall on top the BD case definitely will break |

I never have to bear the cost for returning item to Amazon, but if the cost of returning is high, they will need a receipt though. Like my BGS, have to send them a copy of the receipt before they refund me.

Just to share... Knight & Day is a crap movie, good that I watched a 720p version, deleted. From my colllection, I recommend: Matrix box set Pirates box set Planet Earth box set Avatar Extended box set Pearl Harbor Black Hawk Down Will get Inception in due time. Road to Perdition in my books is one of the most underrated Blu-rays released in 2010. It's an amazing film on an amazing transfer and should be in every collection for four reasons:
1. Paul Newman's last major film appearance 2. Conrad Hall's last film 3. Tom Hanks last great dramatic role 4. One of the best non-superhero graphic novel adaptations of all-time Hall was and still is the best black and white cinematographer working in color. But the other four: 1. Avatar: Special Edition 2. Saving Private Ryan 3. Seven Samurai 4. To be reserved for Inception This post has been edited by kobe8byrant: Dec 15 2010, 07:05 PM |

Want to ask all the BD sifus here since new to the BD world. How to bypass the trailers that autoplay when loading some BD? For some, pressing the menu button has no effect. In such cases I have to press Next repeatedly so for those with many trailers this because very tiring.

Bet it looks great on blu-ray Added on December 16, 2010, 10:27 am QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Dec 15 2010, 07:01 PM) Road to Perdition in my books is one of the most underrated Blu-rays released in 2010. It's an amazing film on an amazing transfer and should be in every collection for four reasons: Conrad Hall won the Oscars for Best Cinematography for Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and also for American Beauty, if i'm not mistaken.1. Paul Newman's last major film appearance 2. Conrad Hall's last film 3. Tom Hanks last great dramatic role 4. One of the best non-superhero graphic novel adaptations of all-time Hall was and still is the best black and white cinematographer working in color. Still waiting for my DHL package..........so slow as compared to standard shipping. All my later std shipping has arrived first.
Asked the DHL courier guy and he said he can't help without the tracking number. But the tracking number is no longer available. |

QUOTE(sKyWiR3pT3lTd @ Dec 16 2010, 11:19 AM) Hmm, is that the case for all other blu-ray discs as well? In that case it could be the players functionality. Certain discs go straight to the main menu - like Doomsday. Having said that, Doomsday doesn't have any trailers, etc so basically there's nothing else to pop up apart from the main menu itself.Others will start playing trailers or that extremely irritating 'COMING SOON TO BLU-RAY' feature |

QUOTE(refnulf @ Dec 16 2010, 03:44 PM) Mine arrived today morning The Emperor of Slipcovers has arrived Beautiful slip box, thick as ever and the cover art is amazing. Packaging is amazing. The slip box is bigger than the usual blu-ray box sets (think of spiderman, bourne trilogy, etc) and it's split into 5. Theatrical cut, director's cut, special features, comic & postcards and booklets. Just when I thought you had slipped away |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Dec 16 2010, 09:13 PM) Word of warning - 300 has a lot of film grain. It's not crystal-clear and sharp as most BDs are. It is however deliberately done and is not due to poor transfer quality or anything. You might want to read a review or two before deciding. |

My post BF order arrived today but where is my other BF orders
amazon shipped 10 December thru DHL eventhough I chose standard shipping. It arrived on Tuesday but as usual a stupid DHL staff called me and asked me to get FINAS approval after some argument, the staff will try to clear it first That night wrote a very long email to amazon complaining about DHL service and asked them to check the integrity of DHL. Today they send it over ![]() |

QUOTE(Jenn77 @ Dec 17 2010, 11:35 AM) Thanks for the concern Hairy, I'm getting the normal edition. Normal edition is good enough bro. Price is also good at the moment. Haven't watched Black Hawk Down yet though, so I don't know if it's the same. But as I said earlier and as you can see from the other posts here (and also if you read the reviews), the film grain is deliberately done by the director/producers to give the film an aesthetic difference. It's still a great movie, no doubt, but in my opinion, the clarity and sharpness one would normally associate with a BD would not be there with 300. Watch it and let us know what you think. |

Thanks Valho and Dario, will share my experience once I got the chance to watch 300, IMHO I'm not into slipcovers, digibooks, digipak etc.. just a amateur who enjoy watching good movies.

QUOTE(valho @ Dec 17 2010, 11:49 AM) Its hard to justify the similarity of grains present on each different movies , i assume? For example, Predator and re-release of Predator or Gladiator and re-release version of Gladiator, they had differences i believe (although i could be wrong that its all about grain or other aspect) but , are these having similar grains present on each? How do you describe them as similar? Just wanted to know |

I don't think those movie will feel the same if it's for example made like Aeon Flux, completely free of grain and smooth For example, Predator and re-release of Predator or Gladiator and re-release version of Gladiator, they had differences i believe (although i could be wrong that its all about grain or other aspect) but , are these having similar grains present on each? As long as the deep & vibrant color, vivid details are intact, its always nice to enjoy every frame of it.Sometimes, i do feel some movies which are without grains present, i feel the quality as if its been deeply washed out and blurry as well as loses its colors. |

The picture details were completely overshadowed by utter grains. In fact, i gave it away to someone that movie, cause the picture quality was so bad. Also , noticeably the colors were bad. I think the DVD version that i had was far watchable than the blu-ray ones. The re-release review states as following :- "There is almost NO FILM GRAIN TO BE FOUND HERE". "The black level is solid, there is some detail in some close-ups and such when things aren’t totally smoothed over, the color palette is vibrant (especially through the thermal imaging of the Predator vision) and flesh tones are accurate." Question to everyone:- Yesterday I watched Kick-Ass BD version. Has anyone encounter any part of the special features or easter eggs for deleted scenes? Or is there even "deleted scenes" for that matter? Read from director Matthew Vaugh said there will be some but I can't seem to find them. |

Sorry to bring up the issue of grain again, but think there's a few misunderstanding:
1) Grain is inherent in film... I mean the ACTUAL 35mm film. It is not a digital process but a chemical one. Hence it is a byprouct of that film-making process. Hence make sense CGI or animations u see no grain. 2) Because we are so used to grain in films for decades, hence some directors like to have some grain purposely to have a more film feel. 3) However problem with HD and BD is that because the resolution practically more than doubled from SD, we can see the grain much more clearly. It will be worse for older films remastered for BD so they have to "scrub" the grain away My question for Sifus here is what is the big deal about criterion releases (besides a lot of B&W and arty shows) that they can charge premium? Are they better mastered? This post has been edited by specuvestor: Dec 17 2010, 01:07 PM |

Care to share? not really, film like 300, Black Hawk Down are meant to be grainy but still retain the sharpness, the color, everything. As for Predator Ultimate Edition, it was heavily DNR, which totally removed certain detail and makes the movie smooth as hell. You removed grain by applying DNR, DNR in turns do remove certain details and sometimes might cause it to be a bit blurry so I won't say movie without grain will be shaper coz it all depends on how excessive DNR is being apply. Well I am not an expect in this matter, just my humble opinion since I do a lot of photo editing and yeah it involve removing grain as well or making model look as smooth as marble |
