The lower the number the better.
The size of a camera sensor will have a big impact on the quality of your pictures. The lens gathers light and directs it towards the sensor, and the sensor records the light to create the image. Large sensor produces better images
All things being equal, a larger sensor will receive more light than a smaller one, and produce better images. This is especially important in low light photography.
When light levels are low, a smaller sensor will generate a higher amount of noise, which will decrease the quality of the images. This is why the best low-light setups include a camera with a large sensor (usually a DSLR) and a lens with a large aperture.

If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. Plug in the USB (connect the phone through USB to the PC), wait for a minute then un-plug the USB (repeat a few times would help), then try to boot up. This is for weird "DEAD N8" scenario
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

My Nokia N8 Review
Just a humble review
Homescreen
The new home screen is very nicely put together with some very nice features. The default all-in-one reminder for calls, smses etc is a really helpful one. Each page allows a maximum of 6 rows of widgets and you can either select a full row widget or 4 shortcuts. There's even an option to turn off the data usage for these widgets.
Multi-tasking preview looks good rite? Not all the time. I would say 2 out of 5 times when I actually get into multi-tasking preview, it will show just MENU, WEB ETC with no preview at all. There's more work needed in this app.
Complaint : I really not fancy of those webtv stuffs, therefore those widgets is pretty close to useless to me, ontop of being a battery eater for always looking for data to update itself. With the exception of Facebook widget which is scrollable, others were pretty much useless and only show a few words. Perhaps there is a need for more flexibility to the widgets like half/full page mode and the ability to insert empty space into the 4shortcuts widget instead of the mandatory four when you just want an extra only.
User Interface
Once you get into the menu, nothing much changed except the side bar has been relocated down to the bottom in landscape mode. You probably feel a little disappointed. However, they do make it up with slight changes with user interaction to the touch screen. I really like that they implement this HOLD-and-SELECT thing, which really minimise the overall movement you need to do, in comparison with S60V5. They also fix the annoying problem with the MENU ORGANIZER whenever you start moving apps from folder to folder. It no longer jump to the destination folder like it did in S60V5.
Contacts, SMS
Contacts remains the same but with the added Facebook connection to each contact. The best tweak is the inclusion of alphabetical scroll when you scroll with the scrollbar. You can even get to Contact from Keypad now, awesome.
With the SMSes, you get the usual SMS app plus a conversation mode SMS app. I still prefer the usual one as I usually delete spam messages quite frequently and only saves those that are relevant BUT is a pretty nice app nonetheless.
Complaints : The kinetic scrolling really sucks here... It was like a turtle crawling. It was saved by the alphabetical scrolling but what a mess. Even so, the default mode which shows the contact's number is lagging to show up.
Browser
The loading time is pretty good and it even plays GIF animation which is a plus. It now support Flash Lite and works better than the stock Flash Lite on my Legend too. It seem pretty faultless until you zoom it with pinch and zoom or double tap as usual. There appear to be simple rendering error or just simply the font is too big to accomodate itself suddenly.
But I do really encounter a strange thing with it. What happen was if I didnt close the web, and lock the phone the by side-lock, the 3G connection still goes on and my phone went from full bar (maybe not 100%, 90% or so) to just 30% when I realised it 1hr+ later.
Complaints : KS sucks again here when in ZOOM mode. The browser was not very good at picking up CLICKS, which is perhaps a different variation of programming. On a normal webpage with huge button for SELECTION, this was not a problem. However, it was most apparent in forum like LYN. Moreover, there is a keyboard bug with the browser. Double space when you press space once which inturn also make auto-cap after fullstop non-existent. Still no fit-text-to-width implemented.
Sometimes the 3G connection will hang and not responding. How to fix? Need to disconnect the 3G and let it reconnect again.
The downloads stop when you switching to other app like MENU... What was that for?
Multimedia
I think I do not need to say much here. Classy GPU providing acceleration for both games and HD video (yeah, HD is possible, I learned something new). The camera even more so classy with its BIG sensor producing breath-taking photos and videos. There's an option to upload them to Fb as well which is nice (although FB compress pic so much).
Coverflow animation is nice too, but I had to say not my cup of tea. I really dont organise my mp3 much. But the headphone is slightly underpower perhaps? It plays quite awfully with mylar1b and I had to use a headamp to compensate for it. 5800 had much better output if my mind serve me well.
Complaints : Just one, FAT32 limitation. Not your fault but Im hoping that you could possibly design/code your own 64bit file system to satisfy us? Or at least include movie splitter in your Ovi Suite?
Keyboard
HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY DONT GIVE US A POTRAIT KEYBOARD???? WHY~~~~???? (Oh yeah, Glen reminded me there will be Swype, thanks you... but I never like them even with Android)
OK, I have to admit I really cant shake this off in a matter of days. I never really like them at all, those keypad. Why? If I type wrong spelling with the keyboard, and still continue typing, it will offer a suggestion. But if Im with the keypad, straight away it will come up with a ? and ask me what I want and cant goes any further (I will just be honest here and what I was trying to spell was satellite and I was going satte, which the both keyboard and keypad dont understand but if I continue with 'lite' on the keyboard, it will suggest satellite). Ultimately I have to force myself to rotate the phone especially when Im using the browser. And I have to be content with the double space bug. And I had to be content with the even worse scrolling in landscape mode.
Anyway, there's credit where its due. There is an option to make the word suggestion become default and your wrong spelling become suggestion.. which means you can just continue with your space instead of having to move your hand over to choose the suggestion.
Battery
I usually dont comment on this but I start my phone at 8am and even with little usage, it gets to about 30-40% by noon. I mean, I thought Android is worse and I had even more widgets which rely on internet connection but its not even this bad.
Overall Impression
In this, I had to include some comparison with my current phone. I wished I could had Desire and it play the 720P just fine, it had full flash, much better gaming, but no, all I got is a Legend.
So, the gaming and video playback is not really comparable to N8, and with the N8 taking such beautiful pics/videos, it would be stupid to say Im not tempted.
However, there is just too much to take for me right now. It will be much easier to read in point form.
1) Battery life is nowhere as poor as N8 even with 3G always on. 2) N8 widgets is really not much of use except FB.. Legend has much better widgets. 3) Browser, I dont even want to compare them... just annoying on N8 4) Keyboard, in landscape and portrait, but what makes it fun to use is the automatic word completion. Type a few characters and if the suggestion is correct, just type space and viola... With N8, you had to move your hand over to choose the word or continue typing till it finish. 5) Contact and Call (Keypad) integration... type a few number or character using the keypad and it will offer suggestion on the keypad based on your contact, no such option in N8. The scrolling bug in N8 on top of that.
P.S. Will you let N8 keyboard designer know that he sucks... the BACKSPACE key is in the position of ENTER key in QWERTY and without color to better distinguish them... it sucks. Hard to choose... but for me, I had to say Legend...
It feels really cool showing the pic/video quality to others, it feels really cool showing the HD video, and the good looking games.
But thats not what I do daily, what I cant live without is Internet for even a day. Do let me know if Nokia released an updated firmware to address some of these problems. I will re-evaluate them of course.

I connected to Ovi suite and then saw there are updates for maps data. Then I update it but Ovi suite wiped all maps data from the phone first, then only I can choose the maps data to install... so I chose Malaysia and a Voice (female UK) files ... total about 50MB.
I didn't see the original maps data on the phone but I think it was well over 400MB.... so what am I missing now??? From over 400MB down to 50MB now haha.

Yes, the N8 is comparable to digicams, but shouldn't be to compared to DSLR or even Micro Four Thirds.

The LX series quality is good; Sometimes sensor may not be everything although having a bigger sensor should be better and have better advantage especially for low light photography; I'm surprise of the GF1 quality over Sony NEX in one of the sample I saw in YouTube. But the Sony NEX does have many very nice functions.

Haha, actually I got the Digi 3GS on May this year, then from early this month still undecided whether to get Digi iPhone 4, and when N8 released striaght away bought it.

oh well apps sure lose to apple but since i not really wan play apps in phone so ....(n8 got gps and browse facebook and lyn and google mail smoothly i already happy liao)

err..as far as i know, phones doesnt have international warranty, so anything happen, u'll have to travel back to SG..not too much problem if you're from JB i suppose

The agent is not aware of this and in the system, the warranty end at 8 Nov 2011 since the extended warranty was not mentioned anywhere in the warranty card and nothing written on the receipt.. wondering how can we further confirm the extended warranty...

I dun online on a phone just to watch vids and use any flash related content so i think it should be fine for me at the moment (Not a heavy internet user... hello Opera!). I wanna this phone despite the complaints (which i usually hear) bout Symbian because i need the hardwares more - camera. I need it for photoshooting on collectibles that i do critical reviews in my blog. Not a heavy app user too i wouldnt expect too much hanging from multitasking.

bluetooth dongle is for pc that doesn't come with bluetooth, N8 have bluetooth built-in, hence it doesn't need the dongle, you can try to pair the bluetooth mouse directly

There seem to be more Godlike owner here than N8. Godlike fcam is so much better, so why worry about the stupid sensor on N8. Fcam already surpassed dslr liao, why brought it down to earth to compare with N8.

Ya, my hands sweat also made my old Dell XPS M1530 aluminium ion the palm rest corrode. =.= I prefer Inspiron's gloss plastic on palm rest. Finger prints prine, but at least more durable.

At first I tried to upload the pic to imageshack. No problem to upload using N8, but then another problem starts when I need to copy the very long URL link to the uploaded image.
This I had to resort uploading directly using lowyat add attachment feature!

just like satio... satio looks slimmer in black instead of silver but due to plastic battery cover, the black is more visible finger print more than silver.

FCam is merely to fix N900's bad internal camera software's shortcomings.It may utilize few things from DSLR type of software but ultimately it's not DSLR.

Have any of you tried taking out the sticker behind the phone? I read from earlier post that it can be taken out and stick it on warranty card. However when I wanted to try I noticed the sirim and warranty sticker is stick on the phone and not the nokia sticker... If anything happens to the phone and they don't let me claim warranty I'll screw them. They can easily check the phone whether it's ori or not right? And just keep the warranty card and receipt.

Sounds like all rich ppl here, dun care phone drop. I used to drop my N73 like, a few times a day until now still tough like batu, except got scratch. That phone now has the auto restart problem (old phone la, dun care, unless i can hard reset, but dunno how) gallery and music player cannot read the contents of memory card and can open from file manager only (guess have to format the card). My N95 never drop before.
Aluminum isn't Titanium. It will scratch, but color will remain.

But compared to all those phones, i scared to drop a touchscreen phone. Summor the phone @134g is considered heavy. Prone to damage although Nokia did their work in toughening the phone.

The oxidized layer and color-dye is still only at near the top surface and for the N8, not very deep... as I've earlier said, I have tried with a pen-knife.. now i have a small exposed aluminum color scratch on my dark grey set.
I tried with a KNIFE, not hand or fingernail .. so I can't confirm how well the color dye and oxidized layer will withstand normal use... maybe very good, but be careful of knives and sharp metals

Guys, h/p supplies macam macam ada. The retailer confirmed he get for me already. Now the problem, if we go out buy N8 after this week, the retailers will jack up the price to 1.8k, 1.9k. Because, now suppliers purposely don wan supply ori phone already cuz next year h/p no more tax (they keeping the phone, create stock deficiency, then jack up price). The supplier want to push the sales of AP until stock finish andthey wont sell ori, unless u pay premium price. Motherf**ker.
Those who want to buy, better buy from Nokia store (but there is a possibility they will jack up the price). So, even if you want to avoid first batch stock and wait a few months till next year, you are likely to get first batch stock also. I pretend go ask other shops they give high price, because lack stock. The retailer i order from finally told me the reason.

Anodize mean it using the aluminium as a anod(+) to attract the cathod(-) colour to stick to the anod(+)... Is it a very thin layer of color.... All chrome colour u see r mostly using this process to have the colour.... So the thin layer remove, the colour still remove...

The oxidized layer and color-dye is still only at near the top surface and for the N8, not very deep... as I've earlier said, I have tried with a pen-knife.. now i have a small exposed aluminum color scratch on my dark grey set.
I tried with a KNIFE, not hand or fingernail .. so I can't confirm how well the color dye and oxidized layer will withstand normal use... maybe very good, but be careful of knives and sharp metals

Cant recommend any for Sym^3, but S60 apps for battery indicator there are a few from 3rd part app developer. I dun dare install inappropriate apps even if it is supported on new symbian, later the restart issue come IF you are unlucky...

Do you believe that the battery indicator lag? Sometimes after a restart/reboot, battery suddenly drop 2-3 bars.
That might explain why bars drop suddenly. I think we need a separate app that displays everything - battery indicator, memory, Ram available etc. I think i've seen an app like that b4.

Yes. I've used N70, N73 and N95 all also like that. When got 3 bars left you have to watch out already (total is 7 i think). You have approx 6 hours of average usage left.

yes, can garmin must install at memory either card / storage..
I have restarted the phone twice, and the default battery indicator as well as 2 widget indicates that the batery is still full.
The last I charged was this morning at 7.40am. Then I used it to answer a few calls and sms with downloading some applications using wifi at the same time. I dont think the battery will still be at 100%

T9 is meant to be used on keypads (portrait). Why would it be used in landscape QWERTY?

Sorry, it's available in landscape but not activated by default (quite rightly so, in qwerty, there's no need for T9 haha). It's kinda stranger why the NCC say "the predictive text input is especially designed for use in the landscape mode" ???? T9 is designed for keypad!
Anyway, as for the T9 in portrait mode, it works just fine on my set.

hi all, i just got my N8 dark grey yesterday...awesome phone...but still i have a question...about the gps using ovi maps...you guys said free...but when i set the connectivity using only wlan(which there are no wireless)..the gps didnt work..somehow i need to use internet to use the gps...i hope you guys understand what im trying to say here..really new to smartphone...before this only using n81..
and 2nd..my headphone also sound like not plugged in properly...damn..

Guys, h/p supplies macam macam ada. The retailer confirmed he get for me already. Now the problem, if we go out buy N8 after this week, the retailers will jack up the price to 1.8k, 1.9k. Because, now suppliers purposely don wan supply ori phone already cuz next year h/p no more tax (they keeping the phone, create stock deficiency, then jack up price). The supplier want to push the sales of AP until stock finish andthey wont sell ori, unless u pay premium price. Motherf**ker.
Those who want to buy, better buy from Nokia store (but there is a possibility they will jack up the price). So, even if you want to avoid first batch stock and wait a few months till next year, you are likely to get first batch stock also. I pretend go ask other shops they give high price, because lack stock. The retailer i order from finally told me the reason.

Nokia also hopping mad at the retailers, some of which decides to play around with the price. Even retailers listed in the Nokia adverts sometime plays with price, I know of one guy here that regularly charges 100 more than the normal retail price for his phones. Used to buy from him because he used to take in high trade ins - but since I found lowyat, and since his trade in price drop like rock already, stopped buying from him already.
Nokia's strategy is just to paste the RRP on the newspapers, and make sure the retail channels they control, especially the Hello stations do comform to the retail price. Paid a visit to three Nokia Hello stations today, and all of them are selling the N8 at the RRP price of RM1690. I do wish they would open one at Seremban though, may stop the crazy price plays retailers here are playing.
I think most retailers are longing for the good old days, where customers were dumb a bit on phones. Now I just laugh when clueless sales kids tell me to charge the phone 8 hours.

not many OUTRIGHT suppliers take N8 now got also the COST is very high very near the RRP.. now waiting for AP price adjustment to mayb below 1.4k... since this model just expansive to the n900 little bit only..

I've discovered that the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 buttons in portrait inputs, W,E,R,T,Y,U,I,O,P respectively. Only one letter for each number. This certainly must be a software problem.

Nokia has proved that they has not intended to dump N900 by offering us PR1.3 update and mosy importantly Meego 1.1 & 1.2 is cleared to be on N900 with dualboot

In fact, many retailer consider N8 as high end.
Yes, because there are ignorant people who buy phone for the look cool and "i have the best" thinking, people who never bother to check for firmware updates online, compare specifications and so on -they just want the so called latest and best available (thats what u guys call godlike phone). Sony ericsson loyalists so for SE phone, Nokia loyalists go for Nokia phone, and the rich one go for iPhone. I have a group of female frens here, all got iPhone -bcos fren influence, and so called the best. But, when i ask them about apps, firmware updates, they give me a blank "what is that" look. They know how to use it to make call, sms, internet, camera and music, nothing else. The only apps they know is GAMES. My dad is another example, last time when N95 is new, go and buy because it is the best back then, but he only use it for phone calls, sms, music player and camera. Nothing bout GPS, internet, bla bla bla
Face the reality. There are many ignorant people out there. N8 and C7 may not beat N900 on specification and performance, but in sales volume it will beat N900.

I would say android browser is better than n900 microB.
But if only N900 have capacitive multitouch, it would add experiences in browsing on N900, I would say even.
Many rich uncles also just buy Nokia 1100. No sms sms one, you want anything call.

i also wanted everyday eat maggi liao....but i m not under JPA..i under MCA. (actually working in MCA building lol)
No offense but I feels like like whole "multi touch" gesture is time consuming. Easier for me to browse with single tap to zoom.
The pusing pusing zoom feature of N900 is also very innovative but time consuming as well? Actually the problem is resistive la... I think after using capacitive, many wont want to turn back to resistive unless really need to work with a stylus.
I lazy to surf back page.. lazy to reply a lot of post liao....
N8 better spec than N900.. then fact tell already.. N8 outsell N900...
the list can go on if arguement keep going....
beside, forget about N8 getting full flash.. A4 running on 600Mhz also stressing already... ARM11... tata....
then u can see someone reply u.. what for FullFlash.. not require... yada yada.. u don't need it.. I very much appreciate to view everything in a page than jumping out to another program to watch video...

There was almost no promotion for N900. N8 getting way more promotion.Obviously people will know N8 better & buy it.

need help here.. Is it possible to download the apps. from ovi store using desktop & transfer to the phone?
-my wifi cannot be configure for n8, so, i attach the phone to desktop using USB cable (ovi suite)-
(online via LAN desktop)
I don't really know if u could download apps using a desktop, why don't you try it out? I think there is ovi store, but it will only send the link to download the app to your phone. Don't know if its different now.
Yup, that ca be done. Download the installer from Ovi store, transfer to phone by bluetooth/cable, then just execute the installer.

no.. it cant.. becoz it only show "send to cell" & "send to friend"... but nvm, i already find the conclusion.. but didnt try it yet.. if this method possible, i will share with other..

well apps in apple i also rarely download now... i use ipad surfing and drawing and light gaming only...
because even i connect wifi using my netbook, i need to setting the IP address & DNS manually.. So, i didn't know how to manually config. N8 IP & DNS.. the solution that i can choose is using my desktop (which connect using LAN).. & download the apps from the ovi store, and then transfer to my phone.. -if using netbook, a little bit slow..-

Try reset your modem.What type of modem are you using?
that's why i also aim n8 ( after i get my ipad for drawing in september)

Did you use auto mode or night mode when taking those genting pic? Not much, but A bit out focus. I recommend u use landscape mode, and switch on flash manually (In default, flash is off when u select landscape).

full auto mode with off flash coz that time i compare with other camera with auto mode too

btw today i surf net with maxis 3g.highly recommend u all sign digi instead if u wanna get data plan for ur n8.i'll definitely sign i4 plan for the unlimited data.the maxis is extremely slow!
Hmm , About the N8 Consumer workshops being held. Are they going to be n8's being sold?
I think not... I think it's just only the workshop with sample phones with them. I don't think they are people selling. We should ask and see whether their sales personnel are there to sell some of their units during their workshop session eh... Thanks for highlighting.
