QUOTE(covetous @ Sep 20 2010, 06:20 PM) Some pics of the problem im facing Hi covetous, your house must be semi-D or bungalow where there is no backlane access, hence the telecommunication infrastructure are from the front. Location of the telephone pit: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Location of the underground cables: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Thx for sharing, your house must've been pretty messy after they were done! They said they couldn't.. must hack the road,zzz.. Sigh, now i have to wait for the installers to submit their report to TM, then wait for TM's CS to call me back. Wonder how long that'll be. I really hope they can solve my problem. The damn cables are right in front of my house, not like its few houses away! Their excuse:Need permit. As i said, my neighbours contractor hack his road,no problem. Usually, there should be an underground uPVC or PVC duct connecting telekom manhole/handhole outside your house until telephone pit, so usually there's a draw wire inside the duct to allow TM contractor to tie to the draw wire and draw in the fibre optic cable into the telephone pit and telephone distribution box. Like most of the forumers, fibre optic to home was laid from backlane telephone post (1 block from my house <5 m); two types of fibre optic cables were used, external was black (armour) fibre optic cable mounted on backwall with cable support (hook) and internal was white fibre optic cable laid through first floor ceiling (roof space) and dropped to my 1st floor family room along the edge of wall with u-clip, since the fibre optic is white and tiny, it's hardly noticable. All IT equipment, i.e. Huawei BTU, TM DIR-615, TL-WR941N were installed at corner of family room with a notebook fan connected to USB port of DIR-615. You're right about that PVC duct thingy, unfortunately its blocked by my shoerack (cement n brick put over the thing already). Only way is to hope another TM contractor can drill or create a new passageway for the cables to reach my telephone pit. They could actually make a new lubang to connect the manhole to my drain..but the contractors i had weren't very willing to do the extra work i think Usually, there should be an underground uPVC or PVC duct connecting telekom manhole/handhole outside your house until telephone pit, so usually there's a draw wire inside the duct to allow TM contractor to tie to the draw wire and draw in the fibre optic cable into the telephone pit and telephone distribution box. QUOTE Is telephone lines are underground also? how about power line? As far as I know for houses that have telephone lines and power lines underground, pass underground directly to inside ur house powerbox. If you are this kind of house just follow the path of telephone line. Thats what the contractors do in my house. I got a dry sewer, they pull the cable following telephone cables to the telephone hub in my storeroom.According to the pic, there is no other way, u need to figure out how to remove ur shoe-rack, you need a place for the cables to come out from underground. From the pic, looks like u need to figure out how. because that hole is the only hole coming out. I never reno my house blocking those sewer holes. Prepare 8hours for this kind of installation it is quite headache. mine is 9hours I hope it is not highest record in Malaysia lol When my parents made the shoe-rack, the contractor said no problem! its not blocking anything!.. lol gg. Now i cant remove it unless I destroy it |

I had mine 'surprise' with good negotiation with them as my fibre optic cable was supposed to come from the ground floor and hacking involved which is not possible at all. Usually those cabinet type shoe rack or book rack are easily removable and get it fixed back, even they can move and reinstalled at new house/room. |

I have set up the Mikrotik RB250GS per rizvanrp's instructions. Everything is working fine, except the IPTV is jerky. Is it my wrong setting or is it because the RB250GS is not powerful enough for the IPTV bandwidth?

I think it has nothing todo with RB250GS performance, RB250GS is a gigabit switch, you only need 8mbps out of 1000mbps that RB250GS has for IPTV. Something must be wrong at your side. |

Something must be wrong at your side. I notice that port 2 (configured for IPTV) will flash and then stop intermittently, but the BTU keeps flashing rapidly. It looks like it is not switching quick enough? When I switched back to the DIR-615 everything back to normal. Can anyone using RB250GS comment if they face the same issue? My HP switch got jerk when watching IPTV, but its very minor and doesn't always happen. Can anyone using RB250GS comment if they face the same issue? |

QUOTE(pinkeeywave @ Sep 20 2010, 03:30 PM) dudes.. i got one question. read all the posting in this thread and bough the retail DIR 615. I tried to flash it the other day, to the TM 615's 7.05 firmware... the router immediately crashed. Which revision do you have?then knowing something is wrong, then only i tried to flash that with DD-WRT, but it didn't work. then gave up, brought back to shop, the fella flashed it back to 3.03 WW. Now i can start fresh. here comes my question. Now that i wanna flash it to DD-WRT, can i just use the one posted in (http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=65)?? item #2 below? it says here it's for rev D, what does it mean? the retail i bought is C2, will it work? all these version is making me Prerequisites : 1. Original TM DIR-615 G1 firmware - http://unifi.athena.my/downloads/DIR615G1_FIRMWARE_705.rar 2. Brainslayer's DD-WRT DIR-615 REV D factory webflash - ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlay...ry-webflash.bin 3. Balls of steel actually, i don't really care about the IPTV la.. i jsut want the freaking internet. my TM 615 died-ded.... bros, please advise Mine is C2 I have also done a D1 for a friend Depends on the revision number, sometimes you need to edit the bin file with a hex editor so that the router will take the firmware. |

Got my unifi VIP5 today... speed is pretty good.
Test download commonly shared torrent ( debian netinstall 150MB).. Was d/l at around 4Mbps constantly... One thing I notice is that the BTU is very hot compared to the Wireless Router when I touch it ... Is this normal ?? Thanks |

QUOTE(kaiser_falco @ Sep 20 2010, 08:23 AM) hmmm been 5 days connection down, and all they did was transferring my call here and there...getting piss day by day....izzit so hard to send 1 technician to trouble shoot one issue?? Mine was down since a week or so before Raya! Still waiting from someone on their side to call me up and come fix whatever problems I'm having. Called them up last week on Wednesday(already made a report before raya), and until now still nothing even though it's twice now I've seen the TM van in my area going out from it. Kinda frustrating but I'll wait a bit more and see how things go in the next few days. |

QUOTE(yoda @ Sep 20 2010, 02:33 PM) not sure if it helps...just sharing....it was known issue that DIR 615 having issue with wifi n-mode. It doesn't strike me since i am using wired and old Notebook which only support b,g mode and my DIR mode is set to all b,g,n enable . I just got new notebook last weekend which has the n-mode. Any disadvantage of switching off the n mode then?It took me a while to sort out..was forgotten it was mentioned here before....all sort of problem came...firstly, no connection to internet, wifi status show no internet access... after a few time restting here and there a few times i manage to get connected. but everything is not running smoothly. Youtube bufferring, Local ping 200+ms (vs ~10ms normally), Speedtest show only 1.5M at most. It really puzzling as everything is fine on the pc... after change the setting b,g mode only on the DIR 615....voilaa....the connection was back to normal.. conclusion...DIR 615 is useless for Wifi-n mode |
