recently , my internet has been really really slow and my packet loss is like crazy...when i ping to any site , i have loads of request time out..i called and complain to tm , after troubleshooting ( pinging to my own router etc etc ) , the service technician say that 'because ur speedtest show that ur still downloading at 5mbps , then its ok!' then i ask him about my request time out and he answered 'sir , that one is ur computer la sir' ... and when i told him that i use another com and tried it out as well he answered 'that computer also la sir' ... WTF?!

installed unifi vip 20 on thurs. left everything on...FRI morning DIR 615 DIED!!!! It's really a crap router. So here is my plan

BTU--->RB250GS--->Router---->Cisco AP 1252g--->PC

RB250GS configured as per http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=co...id=55&Itemid=67

I only need data to work. Not interested in IPTV.

Any PPPOE router to recommend?

Can the above configuration work for my case?

Any idea where to get the RB250GS from Malaysia?

The RVS4000 supports VLAN management and PPPoE but it doesn't support PPPoE over VLAN AFAIK. It can only be used as a switch for Unifi, much like the RB250GS or the Procurve.

I've already disabled the remote management and added the security features as per your guideline in unifi.athena.my, is it still possible that they can hack the DIR-615? Already logged a request asking them to change my PPPoE password. Hopefully this can happen soon though.

Is there any way to tap into the Unifi network directly without the routers for the time being? Tried setting up dialup on my laptop but didn't work. Thanks for any help!

I am curious does this 7.05 firmware work in other router, especially the retail version 615.

I hope i dont get cursed anything this but after 2 replacement routers first one lasted about less then 24 after the day of installation and 2nd one was replaced about 6 days later. since then for 1 and a half months this particular TM 615 has been excellent. can put heavy load constant torrent and gaming at same time no lag plus some browsing and IPTV tested to perform well. so for me now i come to the conclusion that it a fault with the batch of routers given out not the actual router itself. It is not like TM trying to give poor quality ones out in my opinion. I even setup wireless printer/scanner and scan at high resolution therefore sending data at max 54 Mb G standard still ok.

I just hope this will last years. This is my 3rd router is exceed my expectations.

the 2nd times it broke, i had to call everyday for many days until scolding so many of the call center until some1 come here to replace. Such a pain.

I think TM need to find out why certain number of their dlink is like this.

If all TM routers performs like mine i can tell u don t really need to get alternative routers or firmwares as this is just fine.

That's right, if you have a Huawei BTU and planning to get another router and flash with dd-wrt [either Ralink or Atheros base], in the absent of RB250GS, you can configure as:

Huawei BTU[LAN1] ----> [WAN]dd-wrt router (create vlan?.500 & PPPoE dial-up) ----> computers
Huawei BTU[LAN2] ----> [WAN] DIR-165 (configure as bridge)[LAN4] ----> IPTV

i don't think got matter with your dir-615 as mine run fine. usually is connection problem which you need to call tm though about why your upload slower than usual. with your package, upload should be around 6-7 mbps.

Yes maybe not TM fault for faulty router but more of their fault of not accepting that routers are failing and to investigate. I call them everyday for 6 days only they send some1 to replace. The problem was known in my case (faulty router) but they did not accept that and keep saying we send your case to 2nd level to investigate even when i tell them its the router. They ask me do things like on remove management to see if its incorrect settings which i cant even access they router page as it already crash when any device try to connect to it. TM need to wake up. I will have been fine if they send new one straight away next day when one breaks but they were stubborn. 

When my 3rd one came i make sure this time they replace even the power socket.

Yes i noticed some people with very high speed test sometimes hard to believe. Maybe our speed is capped in the firmware of the TM 615. Any confirmations from others as well using non TM router and able to get higher speed?

i always think is capped from account level so wat ever equipment u use will result in same speed.

I have the following, i bought just to test if it can work with Unifi. It was successful. So now want to sell.

New D-Link DIR825 for sale @ RM300, flashed with DD-WRT can be used with Unifi (PPPoE only, I can setup IPTV for you with additional 5port switch). Has USB port can be used as print server, NAS or backup 3G USB Modem connection.

dudes.. i got one question. read all the posting in this thread and bough the retail DIR 615. I tried to flash it the other day, to the TM 615's 7.05 firmware... the router immediately crashed.

then knowing something is wrong, then only i tried to flash that with DD-WRT, but it didn't work. then gave up, brought back to shop, the fella flashed it back to 3.03 WW. Now i can start fresh.

here comes my question. Now that i wanna flash it to DD-WRT, can i just use the one posted in (http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=65)?? item #2 below? it says here it's for rev D, what does it mean? the retail i bought is C2, will it work? all these version is making me      dunwan my retail router to crash again la
