Hey guys,

Wanna ask something regarding network

(Group A)
BTU <---Router A(NAT/firewall)--->
<---LAN port 1---> Desktop 1
<---LAN port 2---> HTPC/Desktop 2
<---LAN port 3---> WAN port of switch/bridge with wifi - (was a router with disabled DHCP)
<---LAN port 4---> IPTV

(Group B)
Switch/bridge with wifi
<---LAN port 1---> Desktop 3
<---LAN port 2---> Desktop 4
<---Wifi ---> a couple of Notebooks

Is it possible for setup like this? with all PCs/notebooks with internet accesses and also able to network up each other in both direction?

You mean you want to pull a Cat cable from RouterA[LAN3] to RouterB?
Is RouterA DIR-615 and RouterB your own?

Currently my setup as follows:
HuaweiBTU[LAN1] ----> WHR-G300N (see below)
HuaweiBTU[LAN2] ----> [WAN]DIR-615[LAN4] ----> IPTV

WHR-G300N[LAN1] ----> 8-port switech ----> computers/notebook/etc
WHR-G300N[LAN2] ----> [LAN]TP-Link-TL941ND ~~wireless access point~~ bridging with ASUS RT-N10 & Buffalo WCR-GN

TL941ND it's just a AP with firewall & HDCP turn off.

*

I assume that you connect the WHR-G300N to one of the LAN on TL941ND instead of WAN?

yes I did a test yest make DIR615 as main router/switch, my own router change to bridge. It work flawlessly even I connect to the WAN port. All PCs on main router and the secondary bridge/switch/AP able t o connect to Internet.

The only problem is the PCs connected on the main router(615) could not connect to the secondary bridge/switch/AP.

Desktop 1/2 cannot access Desktop 3/4 at all.

I suppose it is related to WAN port, can ur computers on the main router WHR-G300N able to connect to notebook that is on to TL-Link-TL941ND

BTU <---Router A(NAT/firewall/DHCP on/Wifi off/unifi pppoe Dial)--->
<---LAN port 1---> Desktop 1
<---LAN port 2---> HTPC/Desktop 2
<---LAN port 3---> WAN port of Router B
<---LAN port 4---> IPTV

(Group B)
Router B (Disabled DHCP/Wifi On)
<---LAN port 1---> Desktop 3
<---LAN port 2---> Desktop 4
<---Wifi ---> a couple of Notebooks

I did a setup like this yesterday.

All PCs is able to connect to internet. But the problem is the computers on Group A & B do not talk each other. For ex, I cannot Ping Desktop 3 from Desktop 1.

Why I wondering all these mess?

because I if it work I might go for the full fledged router RB750G.

You should connect A's LAN3 to B's LAN, not WAN.
Assuming your A's IP is 192.168.1.1
You should give B's IP as 192.168.1.2 and gateway setup to 192.168.1.1
then all computers can see each other!

Btw, this is assuming you are using A PPPoE to dial, not B
There can only be 1 PPPoE connection.
*

So I guess with all that, it should work?

Looks like I am going RB750G, Well please drop me from the RB250GS list smile.gif

Er, I'm not sure what do you means by "...it should work? Looks like I am going RB750G..."? blink.gif
I thought we were discussing A & B routers? I don't know about RB750G at all so no comment ....
Ok I'll remove you from the list ! nod.gif
*

Well the thing is I was using router A(DIR-615) + Router B to do testing to see if this kind of concept work or not, b4 I go and purchase RB750G.

if router A/B work, then RB750G should work, because it will be my router A smile.gif

Sorry for the RB250GS list.

It is the same thing, if u guys wanna view all the datasheet it is here

Cisco product range
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/solutions/s...ters/index.html

Data sheet
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9923...heets_list.html

Infact the non-gigabit version RB120w can map Vlan tag up to 4094 (base on conversion it is about RM450+)

RVS4000 is a good choice too

WRVS4400N is ridiculous pricing. It is the same thing over RVS4000 but it cost so much extra, the difference is enough for you to get a decent wireless N router to convert into AP.

RVS4000 not even N.... why not couple a mikrotek with an N router like tp link? it would cost less than that... we are just home users... dont need such an advanced router lol
*

the different is about RM100 only. Mikrotik RB750G is about RM310. It still more powerful, but it's routerOS advance features dealing with command line base. doh.gif

but still, the manage switch from mikrotik RB250GS is the cheapest of the cheapest solution. Nothing beat this one.

RSV4000 don't have WiFi feature, it is just a smart switch  tongue.gif
*

Just curious did you connect your FTTH BTU to the WAN port mapped with Vlan 500 tagging pppoe dialing like 615 or you are making RSV400 a switch? sweat.gif

The RVS4000 supports VLAN management and PPPoE but it doesn't support PPPoE over VLAN AFAIK. It can only be used as a switch for Unifi, much like the RB250GS or the Procurve.
*

Do you have any suggestion of router for pppoe over vlan? or these thing doesnt exist? sweat.gif

Really want a router like 615 with pppoe + vlan.

EDIT: the only other solution I can think of right now is swift my router to sit side my side with RB250GS, and turn another router to switch/ or add another switch in my room. sweat.gif

According to the RB250GS guide, this RB250GS job is only splitting the vlan, I am guessing it probably can support up to 2 Unifi Internet link, as it got 5 port to do the job, 2x BTU, 2xVlan500, 1xIPTV. Problem is not sure how to map those 2 internet link as separate link,atm i am guessing the forwarding tab in the Web UI.

Hey guys, what are some of the recommended wireless routers to use together with the DIR-615 as a VLAN bridge?

Something that's easily available in LowYat Plaza, about ~RM200 price range.

Also, what are the most obvious benefits of this arrangement?

I'm referring to this setup:

*

Any router that can dial pppoe via RJ45 WAN port.

Thanks, i'm a bit of a noob, so i was hoping for actual brand/model recommendations.

Something i can walk into a shop and say, "I want X brand, Y model, pls"

Something the LYN community recommends. smile.gif
*

I am currently re-using my 3years old Aztech WL830RT4, it is about RM45 only, not a powerful router, more like a basic router but even all that it is still more resilient than the 615 doh.gif

for RM200, u might wanna try Linksys brand routers or the TL-link ones. I cant give u any specific models as I never use all these.

General rule of thumb is most RJ45 WAN port router should work.

I will strongly recommend Asus RT-N16. It is a very powerful wireless router at entry level pricing.

It has 480MHz CPU, 128MB RAM & 32MB Flash. BTW, it also support 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT and Tomato.

It has 2 USB which can be an alternative NAS and all in one printer server.
*

Same here, but his budget is only RM200. tongue.gif

infact I still need comparison between its cpu with Atheros 680Mhz ones.

Unless there is buyer willing to swap with you, honestly I really hope there won't be any drop-out at this junction ..... sweat.gif

Dont worry buddy, I'll bring another RM140 during collecting my RB250GS in-case if that problem exist. I got 1 more unifi user under me that might want it.

Just make sure the details you PM are 100% correct. *double check lol smile.gif

Happy that you picked Curve as Collection location quite near to my place. tongue.gif

Should be ok, just download the original TM DIR-615 factory firmware 7.05 from my site before you start.
*

I am curious does this 7.05 firmware work in other router, especially the retail version 615. tongue.gif

You could try, you will need to edit the bin file with a hex editor. Let us know if its a success smile.gif
