What to ask those people who has corrupted download, are you still using DIR-615?

about the DIR-615 survey, what does 1 mean and what does 10 means?

yushin, for your asus router, did you flash with dd-wrt or just remain with the bundled firmware?

no direct vlan tagging for this router?
*
Original Asus firmware, no dd-wrt.
I don't think the router has direct vlan tagging. well, I can't find it. That is why the HP switch is there doing the VLAN work.

Hi Bro,

May I know how much & where u bought the Asus RT-N16? How was it performance as compare to the current TM Dlink DIR 615 or any other wireless router that u had used before.
*
Bought it from compuzone in Digital mall PJ, I think the price was RM390.
I dunno how to measure performance as I only use wired LAN. Stability wise, it is much better than DIR-615.

I bought the Microtik as a backup in case my HP Procurve dies.
Good to know the COD place is the curve.
Much easier to find parking.

Thanks klseet for organizing the bulk.

Jerk in IPTV also happens but not often.

Can't avoid that. The cable connection of the HP switch is at the front.

I notice that port 2 (configured for IPTV) will flash and then stop intermittently, but the BTU keeps flashing rapidly. It looks like it is not switching quick enough? When I switched back to the DIR-615 everything back to normal.
Can anyone using RB250GS comment if they face the same issue?
*
I will do a comparison when I receive my RB250GS next week. My HP switch got jerk when watching IPTV, but its very minor and doesn't always happen.

yushin, where did you get your hp Procurve 1700-8? If the Mikrotik RB250GS turns out useless for IPTV, I may want to buy a hp Procurve 1700-8.
*
I got it from Ingram Micro through my company account. How lag is your IPTV lag? Is it so bad until unwatcable?
My IPTV got a bit of jerking when I switch channel and occationally while watching. Not really big deal lor.

The IPTV lag between DIR-615 and RB250GS very noticable?

Unwatchable, the error message came out saying "Service is temporarily not available", after 2-3 times it just totally freeze. I will try again tonight to disable the Auto Negotiation and force Full Duplex, not sure it will help. But anyway, last night I couldn't get live TV through both DIR-615 and RB250GS, so there was already line problem. But DIR-615 can play VOD ok but not RB250GS. So, I am not sure if it is a line problem or hardware problem, or just a configuration problem. However, RB250GS only has 96KB RAM, is it too small and caused the buffering problem?
*
Sounds more like line problem. I already 3 days not using the IPTV. Will switch on tonight and see how is the movie stream.

Just got my Microtik RB250GD from klseet. Will be comparing with my HP procurve on the IPTV performance.

Thanks to klseet for organizing the bulk buy.

Got the whole thing up within 30 minutes. The guide really helps a lot. No need to read the user manual. rclxms.gif

Wah bro, you really looks like running a mini server room !  tongue.gif
Btw, didn't see your NAS?!  biggrin.gif
The NAS is at the other end on the row along with the color laser printer. I need to tidy up everything first before showing to people.
hahaha. Colorful cables heh smile.gif

Btw, I have tested the IPTV performance between Procurve and Microtik RB250GS by watching some channels and switching channels. They feel the same on my 29 inch old round CRT TV.

QUOTE(Tentris @ Oct 11 2010, 09:10 AM)
Not All Unifi Installations Are Born Equal

This is what my installer told me (very nice guy, a TM supervisor-level fella, not just a random installer).

The first time they came to my house, they checked the signal strength at the telephone pole and found the DB to be at 39 points. (i have no idea what DB stands for, i assume it has something to do with signal quality from the main exchange which is about 500m from my house).

The second time they came, the signal was still 38 points despite them already having checked and made some minor adjustments at the main exchange.

Both times, they cannot proceed with the installation because the maximum signal threshold is 28 points -- any higher than that and the signal quality will be so poor that unifi will be unstable and/or have very poor performance.

Then TM checked what the problem really is and found that some fiber cables were waterlogged and had to be replaced. So they replaced it.

Then the third installation attempt, the signal was 15 points. This is considered very very good.

And after using Unifi for the last few days, the quality has been excellent. Very stable, constantly hovering 4.9UP/4.9DOWN. Played xbox360 FIFA11 and Halo Reach online like crazy over the weekend, and it was perfect every game. Downloads hitting max 500-600 and averaging 450+ via BolehVPN. IPTV is perfect too, while i'm gaming wife is watching SyFy, and dad is Skyping with sister.

This is on VIP5. Landed property, not an apartment. Kota Damansara, Section 5 (near the mosque).

So consider that 15 points is quite a difference from the 28 point maximum before installation will proceed. This may explain why some of us have no problems, and others have unreliable service.

Say your signal strength is 27.5 points -- the installer will still proceed with the work. But that's damn close to the 28 point threshold already, and could indicate that there are problems with your line and/or problems at the main exchange.

So, i think this is something the community needs to be aware of -- the installer will sometimes write in the signal strength numbers on the top of your Unifi installation receipt (the one you sign to accept that the installation is successful). See what your DB signal strength is.

I'm not sure if we can insist on a signal strength below 20 points, since their standards is 28 points. But what i can say for sure is signal strength of 15 points is really god-like. Super stable, consistent and enjoyable. I don't feel like a single sen of my rm149 is being wasted.

Hope this info helps you all, especially new installers.

Yes, its true.
My first unifi installation was not successful because the BTU can't establish connection even tho to SN is only 27db.
After 3 weeks TM come back and this time the SN is around 21db inside my house. The BTU connected right away after powering up.
I never encounter any data corruption problem.
The speed is usually around 17Mb at night and 22Mb at 6am.
Did have some problem with the vmad.gif DIR-615 but its solved now.
I downloaded a lot of thing after I got my unifi.
Now dunno what to download already. 20Mb line idling sweat.gif
