Hey guys , im using a Mac Book Pro 15"inch 256MB graphic card i5 processor < this spec MBP
and was wondering whether any of you are having a freezing of softwares (or even the os) problems ?
I found mine quite annoying when my VLC keeps freezing and had to quit and reopen it.
Is it VLC prob or MBP prob? <<if yes any solutions? wink.gif will be very greatful

btw, is there any relation between the lagging of comp with the specs?

*if this thread (related) had been posted before, kindly give me the link for the solutions thanks wink.gif

have a great day

My VLC crashes occasionally too, mine's an i7 15" so I guess it has nothing to do with the hardware. I think it's more of an issue with the OS, software incompatibility or buggy maybe?

Lagging how? General use or gaming? If you open up too many of the memory consuming programs it will inevitably lag. Also check if your hard disk is more than 80% full (most of the lags happen because of this) Gaming should be ok as long as you set it to medium or lower. Mine runs SC2 on high and it's working fine.

Thrash (aka delete) the VLC.app and download a new copy. Also try Reset Preferences.

and i thought i was the only one..smile.gif
but after fixing the zagg it doesnt happen to me anymore..
my bro's mbp, zagg-less however still gives that static ting..
*
What is zagg? I'm also experiencing the same thing. 'Electrical shock' thru the edges of my MBP.

@Moutzu Why don't you try downloading and using Open Office as well as Google Docs first? That's what I'm doing. Getting by fine. No need to pay money for either iWork or MS Office.

But unfortunately my macbook was accidentally dented after the 3 pin plug fell over its body *cursing myself for being bloody reckless*.

Currently using speck satin purple, but unfortunately the case scratches too easily. sad.gif

Any recommendation on the case? anyone tried the carbon thingy case?

Thx. smile.gif

Macbook is actually a PC. You may install Windows with ease and even dual boot with it. Not a problem at all

Hv thought about using Open Office but iWork has got some powerful features such as adding & editing photos in documents etc. Ultimately, it boils down to my needs and the pros and cons of investing in an iWork vis-a-vis the free Open Software Open Office.

Thx for your suggestions. Will definitely give it serious thought and I might PM you for more info.

Light photo editing can be done in iPhoto. What for buy iWork for photo editing features? What other 'powerful features' are attracting you towards iWork?

why are you discouraging him? there is a trial for iworks let him do his own comparison, IMHO there are many other pros using iworks compared to the free options let him discover it for himself, ultimately its his money that decides the purchase.

Not discouraging him. Just saying that for photo editing, one can use other applications like iPhoto. But you're right. He should try out the 60-day trial and decide for himself.

some people juz want decent photo editing features built right into a word processor, just so they dont have to launch another app, export/import for every small editing. nothing wrong with that

was thinking of getting a Macbook Air to replace my MacBook unibody. Major aspect is because of the weight and I dun use the optical drive much. but since getting the iPad I'm having 2nd thoughts. might not be prefect but get most of the job done anyway.
