is there any 3gb ddr3 sodimm? i thought the 3gb modules are only for desktop

u can get the faster ones but it will be downclocked to 1067mhz, so no point paying for premium price. go for 2+4gb lah
*
urm 2+4 shud b ok too. but would it be ok if i were to get 1333mhz or 1600mhz considering its running on 1066mhz now? notworthy.gif

Hmm, new owner of macbook pro 13. biggrin.gif
But unfortunately my macbook was accidentally dented after the 3 pin plug fell over its body *cursing myself for being bloody reckless*.

Currently using speck satin purple, but unfortunately the case scratches too easily. sad.gif

Any recommendation on the case? anyone tried the carbon thingy case?

Thx. smile.gif
*
dude theres a thread for cases. post your query there. icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah. currently my problems i have to open the lid while the wireless connection is connected, if i closed the lip the wireless aint work. If you do a knows, after connected with external display, you try turn up the lid it's blank.

so i just do not want to open the lid, as usual people said, closed lid still connected to wireless, but mine are not =[
*
mm weird issue. wireless works fine on mine.

but wanna ask, does closing the lid of the mbp while connected to an external display prevent heat dissipation? will it increase the temp? notworthy.gif

u have a few options

1) use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone ur current hdd to the new one, then swap. the new hdd will be exactly like the old one, juz bigger smile.gif

2) u can Restore ur current hdd to the new hdd too, using Disk Utility but need to boot from the OSX dvd

3) *if u have a time machine backup* install the new hdd, boot from OSX dvd n restore from time machine drive

i would recommend hitachi travelstar 7k500 500gb (~rm220) or faster seagate momentus XT 500gb (~rm460) hybrid drive. i bought the latter and will be upgrading tonight using method (3) bcuz only my time machine drive has a firewire800 port tongue.gif

try using time machine. i've did an upgrade on my macbook recently and it's painless. it's so easy as mentioned by dvlzplayground. if u useSuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner, it's a paid software. if u don't have time machine back up yet, now is the time to do. just do a time machine back up on your ext hdd (u need to format it to hfs), then once u've install the new drive, just put in the os x dvd, boot, then do a restore. it will restore everything just like before on your previous hdd. no need to reinstall all the software.

hey guys. thanks alot for the feedback. really appreciate it. notworthy.gif for the hdd that you have recommended, its 500gb, but im looking to upgrade to 1gb considering the price is quite reasonable lately. i think with the right ratio of ram, the computer shud handle it just fine right?

what type of wireless router are you using? if you are using a wireless G router, mayb you can consider changing it to a wireless N router as it give better connection speed and also coverage area.
*
using belkin modem + router 2in1. not sure whether its G or N. so N can go further?
*sorry if im discussing about modem here. notworthy.gif

the above 2 sentences makes much sense in their own context...but at the same time they are contradictory hahaha tongue.gif. i like your conclusion, although i was hoping to read something like "keep the mac, chicks dig em" whistling.gif

but on a more serious note, i guess apple products do carry their premium price through the years eh? people just rate it highly, which is a good thing for resale. hmm...i guess it's a keeper? hmm.gif
*
i guess geeky chicks to kinda dig it. it definitely has more appeal to the ladies compare to most laptops. (most, try bringing an hp envy and the mac seems not wanted tongue.gif) but frankly, i wud advice you to keep the mac, and sell off your acer as high as you can. like someone said earlier, you can dual boot the mac with windows and osX. so whats there to lose keeping the mac? thumbup.gif

Hi guys anyone here bought a MacBook using the education discount? Wta you must own a credit card to buy or can you just call up order what you want then just bank the money to apple?
*
orders must be made online (apple store). can use anyone's credit card, dont have to b the same name as the buyer. and most of the time they wont check whether you are a real student or not. biggrin.gif

i use the ed discount because honestly, I am a student. But Apple doesn't check at all. I thought I have to send identification or something. I used credit card.

hahha im proly using this method on my next mac purchase. cheaper by 200+ right, if im not mistaken. but have to wait. i kinda like the feeling of buying from shop: pay and get product straight. tongue.gif

yes. it's like so much cheaper. don't know why Apple use DHL. DHL not very efficient, esp. the operators. two op say two different things.

how long does it usually take anyways?
