Just bought my MBP 15-inch from friendly seller, tabs, yesterday. Last nite I charged it up and now I am using it first. I have been a Windows user for many years and since I bought an iPhone, thought it logical to move to a Mac. Now being a first time user, when I launch Safari, instead of getting a full screen I get a minimised screen. How do I get the full screen?

Safari opens a website according to the size the webmaster intended it to be viewed typically 800x600 resolution is the defaults, if you want to make the safari window to fill the entirety of your screen, look at the bottom right of the safari window right below the vertical scroller, you can adjust that.

Good evening nimrod323,

Thx 4 ur quick response. Do you mean the inverted triangle icon at the bottom right of the safari window vertical scroller? If it is, can you pls show me how to adjust? BTW, do you forumers view the page @ 800x600 reso?

erm.. i think it should be normal.. because it is aluminium.. and it takes a short while to cool down too..
as a new mac user.. it is something that we hardly get used to it when we moved from PC tongue.gif that Mac way of maximize stuff is like tat smile.gif but there is way to tweak it, one way is using Divvy which is not free.. but there are several ways to do.. i forgot d.. hv to google..

a few more things that u will realize soon are:
1) the delete = backspace... to use delete in mac.. must press FN + delete
2) there is no CUT in mac, got copy only..
3) no CTRL + F5 / F5 to refresh, just Cmd + Shift + R / Cmd + R

erm.. thats what i can think of at the moment.. i m new mac user since May too tongue.gif

Added on August 19, 2010, 12:01 amyea.. and just in case u will ask.. if u want to uninstall a program, u can just drag it and throw into dustbin.. but it is recommended that u use program like AppZapper to completely delete the related files smile.gif

ha.....ha.....ha....... mememe12 many thx for sharing. I greatly appreciate this. Well, I just learnt that backspace=delete b4 you highlighted it. I did not know that to delete, one must press fn + delete. hv learnt a few functions from your tips. Hope you can keep them coming.

O-I-C. Thx for the info.

BTW, if I use iWork, is it necessary for me to use MS Office? Cos' still adjusting to using a Mac and loving it every moment of it as I explore more of MBP features. I hope by reading Switch 101 - Migrate to Mac, I will learn more about maximising usage of MBP.

Hi,

What do you guys mean when you say there's no full screen on Safari? Mine looks like this.

user posted image

Have you tried clicking on the three diagonal lines at the bottom right of the window and dragging it all the way to fit your screen?
*
U mean those 3 diagonal lines @ the bottom right hand corner of window? If that is the place, we I had tried doing it but it doesn't drag at all? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif Can it be there's a problem with my MBP? vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

There are also reasons as to why Apple did not implement the full-screen feature... useful to me for multitasking and drag-and-drop feature...
*
Hmm.....makes sense why Apple does this. Smart of them ppl in Cupertino. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Now I understand why those former Windows users, after using a Mac, never move back to using Windows again.

@Moutzu, try going to system preferences-->trackpad. Under the One Finger section check Tap to click and Dragging. Now go to Safari, double tap on the three diagonal lines and drag. When double tapping make sure you don't let go after the second tap. Which means tap once, tap twice and drag straight away without letting go.

Hi Howard, problem solved with your very useful tip and also thanks to Eithanius for his also very useful tip. Together with both your tips, I have now managed to expand the web page to the full screen. Now more appreciative and really enjoying using the Mac. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif I am now a hardcore Mac and also Apple user.

Once again, thanks to both of you. I find LYN forumers are very helpful in every topics I participate. Keep it up guys and gals. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

What is zagg? I'm also experiencing the same thing. 'Electrical shock' thru the edges of my MBP.

@Moutzu Why don't you try downloading and using Open Office as well as Google Docs first? That's what I'm doing. Getting by fine. No need to pay money for either iWork or MS Office.
*
Hv thought about using Open Office but iWork has got some powerful features such as adding & editing photos in documents etc. Ultimately, it boils down to my needs and the pros and cons of investing in an iWork vis-a-vis the free Open Software Open Office.

Thx for your suggestions. Will definitely give it serious thought and I might PM you for more info.

Thx guys for your helpful feedbacks. I guess ultimately it boils down to cost-benefit consideration and also familliarity with using the softwares. Will bear all your comments when making up my decision.

Really appreciate very much.

I dunno whether this had been asked b4 or not. I am new to Mac. Previously when I was using a Dell lappy, I will connect it direct to an AC outlet, thus bypassing using the battery. Can I do this with my MBP by connecting the Magsafe Power Adaptor to an AC power outlet? Will this be bypassing the battery in the MBP?

This means it's ok for me to keep the Magsafe Power Adaptor plug in to the AC outlet and with switch turn "on"?

You got a point here. Nightly, I surf 3 - 4 hours and thus 1 charge cycle can hardly last me 2 nits surfing. Was trying to avoid hassle of charging the battery. By the time I finished surfing, it will be close to 1am. Don't wanna wait for battery to be fully charged b4 switching off power as not sure whether can let the MBP charge throught the whole nite until next morning. That'll be some 5 hours of charging. Wonder it's ok to let it charge over night.

Of late, the discussion in this Thread is oft times about the latest MBA which is an an interesting read.

I have a question which I dunno whether ever raised b4. My question is, MBP comes with iSight camera? It can be used for video chat, right? If this is the case, how to start a video chat? Can I chat with the person who is not an MBP user?

Many thx Benny888 and wiraone for the quick replies. Will try Skype since I have an account. To do this, I guess the party I am going to video chat with must also hv a Skype account, right?

Using Skype to video chat seems a lot easier instead of having to open an iChat account. [I asked uncle Google].

Just installed a Corsair 240GB SSD into my 15" MacBook Pro. Very impressed with the speed. Previously I was using Seagate Momentus XT which was already a step up from the stock 500GB internal HD.

Also try Facetime for Mac, can video chat with iPhone 4 users.

My understanding is the other party must also have this application. Correct me if I am incorrect.

Thx bro

Unlike Windows-based systems, MAC OS does not come with an Add/Remove Programs feature that will help you uninstall programs on Mac. However, it is quite simple to uninstall applications on MAC OS; you just move the application to the trash bin. Doing this, however, does not completely take care of uninstalling programs on Mac.

To understand why, you need to know that programs on Mac computers are of two types; the bundled programs, which can be uninstalled just by moving them to the Trash bin, and the non-bundled programs, which can be uninstalled using the same method, but additional manual work is required to clean up after them. Many programs leave behind settings and other small files that continue to take up space on your hard drive. These must be cleared out as well to ensure that you efficiently uninstall programs on Mac.

Removing the program preferences, shortcuts, and support files that were installed along with the program is a manual process in your Mac. If you do not want to be bothered with all this, it is best to use third-party uninstaller tools to uninstall both the non-bundled programs on Mac and clear associated files from your hard disk at the same time. Some of these tools are easy to use and come with search features that let you view a list of programs from which you can select the ones you want to delete, similar to the Windows Add/Remove Programs tool. While considering third-party tools for this purpose, do a search for freeware and open source tools. Some of these tools achieve excellent results and help you uninstall programs on Mac without draining your wallet.

Here are some third-party uninstallers for your Mac, and their features:

AppCleaner Uninstaller Software (Freeware)
AppTrap Uninstaller Software (Open Source Freeware)
AppZapper Uninstaller Software (Not Freeware)
*
I am using Permanent Eraser. A really easy to use and effective tool.
