Amazing specs. Pretty sure going to be the next most-talk about Android device after HTC Desire.

1.5Ghz? Snapdragon?
A good move by HTC bringing the GSM flavor of Evo. That phone is going to sold like a hot cake. |

QUOTE(yen223 @ Jul 15 2010, 11:33 AM) These are just rumors. Nothing is confirmed yet. We dont even know the actual ETA for Gingerbread and bear in mind, being an HTC phone, it will be SenseUI+Gingerbread. HTC havent even completed with their SenseUI+FroYo. So take the speculation about the hardware and software specs with a pinch of salt. The only thing that's inevitable is there will be a GSM EVO. |

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Jul 15 2010, 12:56 PM) but bear in mind that HTC MIGHT drop sense UI for the gingerbread phone because google mentioned that UI on gingerbread is beautiful enough and no need other skin on top of vanilla android.. SenseUI is not just a 'skin'. It has a couple of functionality that are otherwise absent on vanilla Android. Try saving widgets placements and settings on a vanilla Android and you'll see what I mean. SenseUI has something called scenes that do just that. Homescreen preview? Not available on pure Android. You'll need a 3rd party launcher to get that. SenseUI is more than just eye candy.so depends on google and htc whether they want to put another skin or not It's not up to Google to decide on skinning. It's up to the users. I get to decide what looks cool on my phone. If I want to be dictated on what my UI should look like, I might as well get an iPhone. QUOTE(EpsilonStar @ Jul 15 2010, 12:56 PM) Android UI is already standard. Will there be anything in Gingerbread that would prevent the phone makers from customizing Android? A new licensing scheme? I seriously dont see Motorola abandoning Motoblur, Sony halting UXP, Samsung ditching TouchWiz or HTC dropping SenseUI just because Gingerbread is aesthetically appealing. How would these manufacturers compete then? Solely by hardware specs and price? As long as Android stays Open Source, there will be UI customizations by the phone manufacturers, regardless of how beautiful Google vouch the next platform will be. Granted that the proprietary tweaks made by these phone manufacturers is the contributing factor to Android fragmentation problems. However, denying these manufacturer from doing their own branding on the software is not the way to address it. Android will risk losing support from the phone makers. If anything, Gingerbread should provide a middle ground solution of minimizing the fragmentation issue due to proprietary UI layers while still allowing the manufacturers the freedom to define how their Android interpretation would be like. A better interface API perhaps? Something that would make it easier for the manufacturers to port their customized works without touching to lower level codes. I'm pretty sure Google is aware of this. |

ya i know, what i was trying to say is UI on gingerbread MAYBE good than enough and doesnt need any other UI on top of nicely done vanilla UI..
and that just MAYBE or MIGHT(like previous post that i stated) and of course there are many launchers out there can replace vanilla UI but who knows vanilla UI is better than others?user got a choice to choose which UI but also depends its worth or not...i guess u wont choose a launcher that worst than vanilla UI itself right? and if i remember correctly,Google said there is no need put manufacturers UI like HTC Sense, etc on top of gingerbread coz its already good enough..so i just say depends whether HTC want to put or not(well,is their signature UI after all) well, just my 2 cents and again, what i was trying to say is just MAYBE..so dont get it serious This post has been edited by hihihehe: Jul 15 2010, 03:25 PM |

Gingerbread UI + HTC sense is pwnage! Htc will perhaps make gingerbread funtionality more superior compared to the vanilla ui. Htc sense is not a total ui btw as i see, its an enhancement. We can still see the apps drawer the same and also the settings etc.
Regardless its 1.5ghz snappy dragonite or dual.core, i really wish adreno gpu is competable to powerVR which is damn powerful now. P/s: might want to rename this thread and merge it with the desire Hd thread i guess.. both r referring to the same phone which is rumored. Hopefully at some point they will think a way to improve the speed on getting gingerbread instead of producing new phones with better hardware day by day, it makes people like me feel outdated man

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Aug 14 2010, 12:37 AM) what u mean new snapdragon chip? im referring to the new 2nd gen or 3rd gen 45nm snapdragon chips.. those chips are ready already for the past few months but no devices received them yet.. htc is expected to launch 4-5 phones in the 4th quarter alone so there must be a phone which have that chip before 2011.. the 1ghz current snapdragon is the old architecture which is 65nm but still manage to perform quite good and consume not much battery power.. the new 45nm would be better in all terms compared to the old one..from the rumored spec,it use the same processor as htc desire/nexus one |

All ARM-based processors are SoC (system on chip) and the GPU is an integral unit to the design. Thats why you can have good performance and yet a power efficient product. Qualcomm has always been stucked with ATI/AMD GPU just like previous HTC products (which uses Qualcomm). You guys still remember the Tilt II do you. All users left without a properly working driver. PowerVR usually is with the TI OMAP, Samsung (and now PA Semi/Intrinsic/Apple) camp. |

abit disappointed if the specs are real. as it is, it's still mostly on par with the sgs which has been out for 3mths already.
better than sgs - camera and led flash, ram. worse than sgs - internal storage, cpu (assuming this is the same as desire), slcd vs samoled. the rest of the specs mostly equal. was hoping for higher screen res and at least a 1.2ghz cpu. |

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Sep 15 2010, 08:26 PM) ya, damn low isnt it? hahahahaha.. its supposed to be above 1400.. at least 1500 would be ok.. desire z definitely well perform better... the new 45nm 800 MHz MSM7230 processor from Qualcomm. One of the major additions is that Qualcomm has finally included a graphics processor, the Adreno 205, that is on par with what we have seen from the PowerVR GPUs found in Samsung and Texas Instrument’s SoCs.
Added on September 15, 2010, 8:31 pmgo search about the new processor u will its mighty.. This post has been edited by whitegoh: Sep 15 2010, 08:32 PM |

QUOTE(whitegoh @ Sep 15 2010, 08:30 PM) definitely well perform better... the new 45nm 800 MHz MSM7230 processor from Qualcomm. One of the major additions is that Qualcomm has finally included a graphics processor, the Adreno 205, that is on par with what we have seen from the PowerVR GPUs found in Samsung and Texas Instrument’s SoCs. that is for Desire Z isnt it? not Desire HD.. i wonder if Desire HD has the same performance..Added on September 15, 2010, 8:31 pmgo search about the new processor u will its mighty.. update : it comes with new Adreno 205, more GPU compared to older snapdragon.. surely a good upgrade for htc lovers This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Sep 15 2010, 08:33 PM |

QUOTE(AbsolutWayne @ Sep 15 2010, 08:40 PM) perhaps only 30+ .. The Evo has a fps cap due to the HDMI output.. Desire HD dosent have hdmi so thanks to adreno 205, it would be around 30+ maybe.. increased compared to the old snapdragonQUOTE(AbsolutWayne @ Sep 15 2010, 08:43 PM) hihihehe, i mean the fps relate to the gaming 1 This is not a gaming phone i guess dude, the GalaxyS still leads the hardware throne.. only the next Orion chipset by samsung would kill the Galaxy S or Nvidia Tegra 2 on this close periodFor instances desire have 20 something and sgs have 50 something thus sgs have better gaming performance. QUOTE(a13solut3 @ Sep 15 2010, 09:24 PM) 2.5k might be a good price range for Desire HD.. its around that pricing i guess.. HTC tends to control their pricing well and the price seems stable for quite a period.. my guess would be 2.4-2.7 for Desire HD.. the Desire Z perhaps is just a lil above current HTC DesireQUOTE(-Teddy- @ Sep 15 2010, 09:26 PM) Indeed, everyone was wondering why such damn small battery capacity, even GalaxyS, DroidX with 45nm chipsets has 1500mAhQUOTE(AbsolutWayne @ Sep 15 2010, 09:29 PM) For pluginbaby video it seems that desire z have better screen color or maybe viewing angle problem??? WHy it's called HD btw... since it's running the same resolution at HTC Desire "SD", and theoretically the ppi for the existing HTC Desire is higher than HTC Desire HD
Btw, it's just too big for me - I think I prefer the current model still |

Perhaps because it can capture 720p out of box? But then it's really no surprise, especially when people start marketing contact lenses as HD. I bet most people don't even know what HD means.

QUOTE(Motorola Rule @ Sep 16 2010, 12:46 AM) its kinda odd actually. I like went to sprint in Lasalle .st when iwas in ChicagoUni and like tested the evo4g. indeed.. but the screen size and total phone size is a different thing.. even some phones with 3.7inch screen has a wide side body making it look almost as huge as 4.3inch phones.. but still its smaller, but just as close to 4inch and above i must say.. Some guys were like laughing at me... they were like, that phone really looks large in ur hands. I was like wtf??? discrimination against chinese??? lol..... But admittedly. It really feels large. My hands are like kinda bigger than the norm, not as big as niggers, but it felt pretty big. Certainly such device would break into 2 if i squeze into my slimfit... I think a moderate size would be around 3.2-3.7. Ive seen some ppl laugh at other ppl when they were using the 4g. they were like, check out that hole holding a calling plastic brick... I laughed at the sarcasm.. and i really felt bad lol.. and oh yes, it really look quite awkward for people with small hards to be holding such device.. unless u hold it like a tablet.. haha |

hi, desire HD is only normal LCD only
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_announces_froy...z-news-1937.php while desire Z is SLCD... and is real that desire HD pack with 1230mah don't think it has different with normal 1300mah right??? is just a different of 70mah.. edit:http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_london_2010-review-512.php here are the more detail news, the new processor is has a new GPU integrated inside the chip, so it will bring much better graphic performance compare to the previous 1GHz processors. what interesting part is Desire Z has Fast Boot – from off to full boot takes 3-4 seconds. both phones are aluminium body... Added on September 16, 2010, 1:54 amaiyo.. phone size can fit yr pocket depend how big is yr pocket la ==some pants have big pocket some have small.. Now waiting for benchmark on those processor and the gaming performance. But I'm still kinda drooling over at N8's camera |

from the early reviews.. the htc desire Z keyboard is one of the best in the market.. even better than e7x series n bb??
im more tempted to get the Z for the qwerty keyboard and sleek (read sexy) design.. hopefully the processing and battery life would at least last 2 days. This post has been edited by blur_goofy: Sep 16 2010, 07:43 AM |

The Desire HD performance should be much better than the older EVO4G/Desire as it has the Adreno 205 GPU which is 3-4 times more powerful than the older one. Also, its processor is based on the 45nm process compared to the older 65nm which means it uses less power too
Previous early benchmark of the Desire Z shows that it is slightly lower than the Samsung Galaxy S, but very close! And we all know, the Samsung Galaxy S is like 4-5 times faster than the old Desire/Evo4G. The Desire Z will be slower slightly than the HD as it has 800mhz only, but still 3-4 times faster than older Desire |

hopefully the price will be slightly more than desire or about same. And those bought desire would actually regret not waiting for this (at least those who bought in recent 1 month).

I dun think those bought the Desire will regret, coz the smaller form factor of Desire is more suitable for girls/ladies, and the Amoled of the older batch of Desire is a gem too. But too bad the HD dun have HDMI output and the awesome kickstand of EVO4G.QUOTE(pluginbaby @ Sep 16 2010, 12:59 PM) Youtube vid didnt appear on my browser.. is it my flash player prob? how bout others? Some new features of the new HTC Sense
Ability to move homescreen around in Leap View (helicopter pinch view) , similar to patched rosie in custom roms HTC Sense skins, includes expresso mod look-alike and other few cool colours.. its no longer dull looking and u can choose which one u prefer Task switcher built into HTC Sense framework, located at the drop down notification bar This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Sep 16 2010, 02:03 PM |

this one look cool.. Hopefully release in Malaysia a.s.a.p.. want to change my SGS.. quite annoying when Samsung didnt implement apps & data backup, where need to install & set all over again every time we upgrade or flashing firmware..

What we are seeing is actually HTC Sense with froyo underneath it.. HTC Sense has really improved quite a lot.. i wonder how gingerbread looks like and how HTC will improve it
QUOTE(monked @ Sep 16 2010, 03:16 PM) not quite.. it enhances the use of the drop down notification bar.. same goes with SGS framework which includes the controls there... surely will be handy, i seldomly use the hold home to see previous apps, looking at this new feature i can say its a great improvisation indeed..iOS multitasking is different, it depends on how u look at it.. same goes with Touchwiz, some people see it as a iOS clone, some see it as a new and more simple version launcher with easier navigation This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Sep 16 2010, 03:20 PM |

Apparently the HD and Z are running the next-gen Snapdragon processors too. Read a comment saying the Z's 800mhz processor outperforms the Desire's 1Ghz processor.
Not sure how true is it though so take this info with a huge pinch of salt. Can't wait for the HD |

why HTC only released it now? it supposed to be a few months ago. it's a bad move. many people would have buy it because it's 4.3" screen.
btw, it attracted me. LOL |

if based on that price then its very reasonable. but i think when reach here would probably be 2.5k - 2.7k. 2299 is slightly more expensive than desire only.

QUOTE(Narako @ Sep 16 2010, 08:11 PM) lol the price is out in europe and its expensive... UK prices tend to be higher. For example a US phone may cost USD$499, UK counterpart may cost GBP460 or so. That's from my simple observation at least. May not apply in this case though but the price does seem logical. I see a lot of new and high end phones costing more than 2.5k these days.http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/09/16/am...icing-revealed/ maybe reach here at around 2299 This post has been edited by exentric_nova: Sep 16 2010, 08:26 PM |

For Desire HD, no official statements yet.. hmm.. its better to be having SLCD compared to the old TFT LCD. I really wish it to have SLCD |

Seems like many people are very looking forward for the front camera.. seems like HTC is not interested in dumping those into their hardware.. the only good phone with a front camera now is GalaxyS, iPhanboy4 and Nokia N8 (if u consider N8 as good)

Hmm it really is too bad that it doesn't have a front-facing camera, especially considering that the EVO 4G had an excellent 1.3Mp front camera. I suppose video calling is going to be a bit tricky.

QUOTE(pooh88 @ Sep 17 2010, 02:06 AM) I heard from Spore forum, it is coming to Telco mid-October, pretty fast. But I am not sure whether I want to be the first batch to get it, may need 1 or 2 months for the users to start the real test then see the response. The phone price will be high too initially when it is first launched. So many get it for X'mas. |

But I am not sure whether I want to be the first batch to get it, may need 1 or 2 months for the users to start the real test then see the response. The phone price will be high too initially when it is first launched. So many get it for X'mas. |

system dump for HTC Ace 1.04.161.2 CL233468 test-keys released.. seems like a dude already has the device for a few weeks and now he realized that it is a good thing to release the system dump.. perhaps we would see some early benchmarks from him

Quite reasonable I'd say. Wonder how much would this affect Desire's price. |

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Sep 17 2010, 09:26 PM) i tot droid x at 30fps too? SGS's camera quality was quite good but people are saying its the best.. maybe its bcuz of the SuperAmoled display.. i snapped pic using my dads SGS, transferred to my pc and i was shocked to see my raya pics are different looking compared to what is on the phone under the super amoled.. i need to manually readjust and add in some contrast and saturation to make the pics looks good.. but in an overall, i guess it was quite good indeed already..ya SGS at 30fps but the camera not really good though that is a nice price i would say(to avoid all the hassle by urself) if u get it from UK by urself, then u need pay tax,etc... HTC Desire's camera was also great minus the HD recording at low fps.. The camera's flash with some additional exposure settings could make some night party photo look good.. How is dual LED is going to be btw, brighter night pics isnt it? Which android phone has the best camera btw? does anyone know... cuz i was wondering which camera (android phone) has the best sensor.. |

Quadrant pro score :
Full score: 1967 Sub scores CPU - 4651 Memory - 1119 IO - 3241 2D - 276 3D - 546 Seems like 2D and 3D scores improved comparing to the previous 1st gen snapdragon.. The results are on par with DroidX but SGS still rules as the quadrant king i guess with its lead in I/O and 2D/3D. What makes this device great is actually the balance i guess. It is quite balanced apart now bout the battery life aspect. Others, seems fine as an early result |

The batter should be able to slide out from the bottom. Because its unibody design, it doesnt have a large battery cover. Same like the HTC Legend

Go google on how the battery slides out from HTC Legend. Its another unibody design, so i reckon it SHOULD be the same with HTC Desire HD |

QUOTE(jeffvip @ Sep 18 2010, 10:29 PM) a good thing is, they will subsidize the phone to maxis users and also, they will sort out the price initial benchmark.. AP sets should go lower compared to the RRP on maxis at start.. and another good thing is, after the exclusive, SIS sets would be less too compare to maxis RRP |

My Comment:
PRO 1. new Sense's feature (offline maps..) 2. new Sense.com (can sync) CONS: 1. Battery 2. No front camera 3. Screen Resolution(remain unknown) 4. Still 1Ghz...though dual core or 1.5Ghz 5. Internal memory, only 1.5G (samsung, se already 8G lah) Maybe put too high expectation before, the results come out is just ordinary, just another HD2 or EVO4G. The software is only surprise. Hopefully Maxis will offer great price |

Hopefully Maxis will offer great price Battery life still unknown, perhaps would be lasting as long as the current htc desire. No front camera is not a letdown, who uses front camera as a major function.. it is consider only as a bonus. Screenresolution is at 800x480 i guess for now. Qualcomm is very slow and playing catching up. Its Qualcomm which is playing catching up, not HTC. If only HTC would go for other proc such as Nvidia Tegra 2 or ST-Ericsson, perhaps it would have a better hardware. The reason htc is still sticking with qualcomm is perhaps their good relationship and bond. And another reason why qualcomm is still acceptable is the current android JIT function is working on Snapdragons since Snapdragon chips as enabled NEON which makes use of the JIT VM compiler. That what makes snapdragon chips calculates and perform CPU functions better. Google loves the Nexus One and the Nexus One is equipped with snapdragon. This is the reason Froyo makes the nexus one fly eventhough the chip has been released for quite a while already compared to the Cortex A8 45nm based chips. The downside of snapdragon now is their GPU which is Adreno. Adreno is still slightly behind PowerVR until today. Even the nest Adreno 220 is expected to be Pwned by the newer PowerVR (above 540 series) Internal memory issue is not a big issue in HTC phones, or for at least HTC. They are pre bundled with MicroSD cards depending on the package. 8Gig in GalaxyS dosent mean 8gig for apps installation. The GalaxyS on stock only has 1.8GB of free space for apps while DesireHD has 1GB for apps install. There is always A2SD to fill up the needs for extra space. Not only you, many expected so much but i guess its not a letdown. It surely is an upgrade for HTC lovers. Those which dislike always have another manufacturer to consider. Seriously with such big screen HTC should think to upgrade the resolution for the screen, take for example, i have both Galaxy S & Iphone 4, & i compared both side by side, eventhough SGS using super amoled screen & Iphone 4 just LCD, but due to the Iphone 4 have higher resolution it really look amazing, you can't find any 'pixel' on the screen.

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Sep 19 2010, 01:06 PM) IMO, android apps doesnt support high resolution screen yet like Galaxy Tab..have a look at Google search widget in Galaxy Tab,it never fit the screen(4 x 4 only) true indeed, the Tegra 2 tablet from Lenovo i guess is not android market supported. Google quoted back saying that the current 2.2 only supports up to 854x480 (not sure actual in droid, droidx but its 8xx X 480). That is why its useless for them to bring out higher res phone for now on android. Soon hopefully will when android supports higher resthats why the tablet for android still early for now... QUOTE(ahtac @ Sep 19 2010, 01:08 PM) That the different They do realize it but do people realize that android does not support high res? Not all for sure. Such higher res android phone cant support current standard apps. Android market support is removed from the Lenovo tablet. That is why people are saying that its useless for now to use that tablet. No market? Not everyone would root, some prefer stock. Out of the box shows the 1st impression.800x400 for 4" (SGS) 800x400 for 4.3" (DHD) 960x640 for 3.5" (IP4) Dont htc realize ab it? Added on September 19, 2010, 1:10 pm Actually would like to wait for DroidX...but they said exclusively in US... QUOTE(jeffvip @ Sep 19 2010, 05:31 PM) Didn't a GPU will also increase the battery usage too? Doubt the battery life of Desire HD will improve QSD8255 is an upgrade from QSD8250. Perhaps it will only drain the same power. They wont build something which will drain more. Technology improvements comes in a wide scope. Surely they took note on the power. Even on cortex A9 which is the dual core coming out soon, it will run at 1.2-1.5Ghz above but it has a higher power efficiency. When it uses a lower nanometer chip, it will have less silicone packing, better heat distribution, faster cooling rate and etc. QSD8255 is a slight improvement over QSD8250 so we will see benefits from it surely. Dont worry too much. I guess it wont be get worse compared to HTC Desire's 1ghz snapdragonU are surely correct about the battery life improvement but it wont be worse.. (i hope too on this.. LOL) QUOTE(xproc @ Sep 19 2010, 04:32 PM) I see that hummingbird is a leap in android phones. It has more codec support and media playback power. When it it bundled up with PowerVR SGX540, it is deadly indeed. The 90million triangle persecond said by them perhaps is true afterall. Its the games which does not come on par yet with the hardware.Another thing to consider is real usage performance and how apps/games take advantage. Ive said earlier to u that SGS wont be a letdown and will be wont be easily outdated isnt it? Its the games and apps now which is not fully taking advantage of the total ability of the phone. Day by day more dev port over to android iPhone high end games and I bet when some higher end games come out, SGS surely will run it smoothly still thanks to its hardware. Iphone 3GS have been using 163ppi, but no body complained about the pixel density, they just complained about the low resolution. Another important factor is screen size. Look at Sony Ericsson X1, a 2 year old phone. It has 310ppi close to the Iphone4's spec, but no body called it Retina Display then, so it wasnt such a big deal. But the small size of the screen was too small for such a high resolution. Retina is just a marketing word, not a technology. its still using LCD only. The 326ppi advantage is only obvious if you start at the phone very very closely, but at normal usage, its not much difference. I rather take large screen with sufficient DPI cause then can watch movies better and surf websites better too =D. This post has been edited by daijoubu: Sep 19 2010, 07:23 PM |

They say that this phone is packed with bigger sound, better quality in bring better media experience. This can be heard from their chief innovation officer in this video at 25:40 onwards : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBkyhKpJ57U Apparently, i noticed that the Verizon rumored Desire HD dosent have a back speaker, the front earpiece looks like the only place for sound output Sorta wierd i guess.. i know it might be stupid but is there any chance there r also sound coming out from the earpiece since they say this song bring better media experience.. |

If the Desire HD is not at least SLCD, then it will be a marketing disaster. I myself for sure will not accept a TFT Desire HD. I think many others will have the same feeling especially current Desire owners who are considering to upgrade to HD. Downgrading from Amoled to SLCD already not sound nice, can't accept at all if the Desire HD screen be downgraded further to TFT.

Awwwww man I'm lusting for this phone. A dev did a benchmark on it and scored 2000+ in Quadrant! That is damn fast! And that 4.3 inch screen, gaming and videos on that thing is gonna be superb. Anybody want to donate me one? Lol.

well ask yourself: if the DHD turns out to be only SLED will you still buy it?
Personally i rather be having a screen that works best under the sun. I cant even remember how many time i was under the sun and cant read my phone. Take the iphone 4 for example, IPS LCD that most ppl use for colour accuracy... I do not remotely know why I would do photo editing (where colour accuracy is the most crucial requirement) on an iphone. |

QUOTE(d3m0n @ Sep 21 2010, 08:48 AM) Here it stated that its using SLCD. If you read through this thread then you will know the argument is not SLCD or AMOLED, some website even saying it is TFT LCD screen, because there is no 4.3in SLCD in the market.http://www.letmedefine.com/htc-desire-hd/ A few other websites also stated that its using SLCD. And if I'm not mistaken, HTC is making a move to use SLCD on all of its future devices due to the AMOLED shortage. |

QUOTE(d3m0n @ Sep 21 2010, 08:33 AM) Holy crap! 56FPS is really smooth. But the thing about SGS is compatibility with some games. A number of games does not support SGS at the moment. Powerful GPU, bad game support. The only thing keeping me from buying this beast is it lack physical keyboard and of course, money. So, anybody with a kind heart and deep pocket wanna buy me one? Hahaha. I believe AMOLED for N8, but for Iphone4, its IPS and not SLCD.Owh yea, SLCD and AMOLED is pretty much on the same level. They reviewed SLCD of Nokia N8 and AMOLED of Iphone 4 on Stuff September, verdict, not much difference. So you guys can drop the arguements. |

from the video around the internet, it's clear Desire HD has the worse color than the Desire Z.
it's either the HD is using SLCD vs Z with Amoled / Super Amoled, or HD is using TFT vs Z using SLCD or it's a camera trick!! Anyway, it's clear that the Z is using SLCD, so there left option 2 and 3 only.. |

QUOTE(a13solut3 @ Sep 21 2010, 09:25 AM) Yeah the ONLY official confirmation that DHD has Super LCD was on its HTC Desire HD - A Closer Look official video which was posted by HTC on their Youtube page.Mysteriously, they have now private the video. There could be a posibility that there is fact mistakes in that video (Just like how it was mentioned 3.6" for Desire Z in the HTC Desire Z - A Closer Look official video) which they are trying to rectify now. Hopefully it isnt the Super LCD. |

My HTC Legend (Amoled) and HD2 (TFT) side by side, HD2 lose kau2. |

QUOTE(daijoubu @ Sep 21 2010, 03:27 AM) Super Amoled -> SLCD not much of a drop not much of drop?not sure about u but its different case to me though Of course you'll loose the color vibrancy/contrast, but you gain in color accuracy You'll loose in side angle view, but gain in vertical And depends, if you watch movie alot you might loose in battery life, but if you surf sites alot, you'll gain battery life Oh and you'll gain in sharpness, since the SLCD doesnt use the pentile matrix layout edit: if its TFT, then that of course is a different story. so cross your fingers the DHD has SLCD! even my friend who own HTC Desire with AMOLED can see the difference once he saw my phone..and from the review of SLCD vs AMOLED,i can see that AMOLED is better than that..well at least from my eyes... |

Amoled vs SLCD has its own strength and weakness. While initially the AMOLED may look nice, in the long run the overblown contrast starts to make everything look too unnatural Of course, amoled has its advantages. Watching movie or anything with lots of dark scenes, and usint dark themes on it, it'll have better battery life than SLCD. And of course, SCLD would fare much better in the sun than normal AMOLED. Not to mention SLCD is sharper than AMOLED. I'd take SLCD over AMOLED anytime. But SAMOLED, that is a different thing altogether |

Good news is you can have Live Wallpaper on and don't have to worry about the battery. My HD2 is on Desire HD rom now and the battery drain for Live Wallpaper while the phone on idle is either 60mA or 10mA. The Live Wallpaper can last a whole day with normal usage.

I feel the Desire Z is more breakthrough than the DHD. Currently its the top GSM keyboarder. Keyboard, SLCD, balance proc+gpu, new sense, 1.5GB ROM. Although once Milestone comes out it'll give HTC a run for its money. And if Samsung decides to bring a GSM flavour of Epic4G, then spec wise it might take the crown. But in all honesty, HTC product never tries to beat in all spec wise. They set themselves apart with their software and UI. When you say HTC, straight away you'll think of the Sense, the modding and hacking community, and its superb build quality. These 3 items are synonymous with HTC. Now with the latest Sense, you get more widgets, you get precached maps, and you get to use their Sense tracking service in case your phone got stolen. Tell me which company offers all of that? Service to track your handphone, or remote wipe your data, once it get stolen. All these softwares is what sets HTC apart, not ultra high specs. And sometimes, its these software improvements that makes your daily usage of it much more practical. Of course if they were to put ultra high specs, they'll slaughther the competition, but at the same time, the price of product will skyrocket. You cant have super good software and super good hardware and not expect it to price close to a gajililon dollar |

i agree with ur statement on HTC strengths.. but maybe here in Malaysia we can forget about pre-cached maps because we r not entitle to use google maps with navigation here .. am i right? so we have to use brut's google maps, and that one has come with pre-cached maps for long time d..
for me, HTC is always no 1 in terms of UI implementation (for me, HTC Sense is super awesome) and it's build quality.. Samsung phone always has the best spec among the devices, but it always has problem with it's software.. look at omnia, and now galaxy S. if everyone can contributes and generate ideas to the developer, definitely the software can be updated and the issue can be fixed. but the problem is, many of the developers are pros to HTC. and in android case, Nexus One. so for now, even with TFT Lcd, if DHD is available right now, while Samsung is still struggling with it's froyo update, I can say DHD is the device to buy. of coz, if budget is not a concern... Who hates htc sense could still go for other launchers, same as in other phones running other custom UI could also use other cool launchers like ADW and launcherpro. HTC uses their Sense UI to improve what is already good in android. In my honest opinion, HTC Sense does not destroy the beauty of android but it enhances the experience. HTC Sense phone still most of the stock widgets and if its not included, the development team will port it Hopefully this phone will have a good modder and developer support. Im very happy to use HTC Desire previously that have a quite number of active devs that develops stable HTC Sense based and stock android based custom ROMs. Not forgetting cyanogenmod too. Those which prefers high end spec should wait for the next samsung phone or just grab the Galaxy S. They seem to focus more on hardware and hopefully they will work out on a good stable UI too which brings a good user experience. Not saying that the TouchWiz is not good but they could improve it more indeed. Every people has their own taste, it differs and this is what phone manufacturers see. They want to differ their product from the others. This is the difference between iOS and Android OS. We are able to choose specs and UIs since phones are manufactured by various companies which they have their own strategy. |

I have emailed HTC about the LCD.
This is the reply I get. Not a very good news I believe. QUOTE Dear Ernest Yong, Thank you for contacting HTC. With reference to your query, we regret to inform you that so far we haven't been informed which kind of LCD will be used on Desire HD. We would suggest that you may check our official website from time to time for any possible update to this model. |

does it seem odd that there is so much confusion on the screen even until now.. especially the official htc video. i didnt manage to see the original vid, but assuming it went from saying it is a SLCD to just high-res could they be hiding something about the 1st batch? they are already 3weeks to their first pre-order shipping which means they would have manufactured at least all the 1st day sales units already. I have a feeling they might actually change the screen type in a future date?

I do not worry about the screen type to much BUT I worry more about the body design of this phone. The design and location of the battery make it difficult or impossible to use high capacity battery. I always use battery with double the capacity of the original in my current and previous phone. The problem is I like the spec of this phone and in fact i'm waiting for this kind of phone spec

Till now without any official notice from htc, one can safely assumed the screen will not be the best amoled or samoled or slcd. Simply if this is so, as a great marketing strategy htc would have highlighted this. They being mum on this, we can deduce it will be just At worst TFT wvga.
Anyway, personally I don't mind as the creen display is not such an important issue. However up graders will be dissapointed This post has been edited by benny888: Sep 22 2010, 09:36 AM |

I have exactly the same thought - HTC will sure highlight the screen quality if it is good. But if they just give a vague description, most likely it will be the worst TFT. Anyway, personally I don't mind as the creen display is not such an important issue. However up graders will be dissapointed Looks like I will need to wait further for upgrading my current Desire. Android on nVidia dual-core Tegra 2 build by HTC early next year, anyone? |

while it's true screen alone is not enuff for us to turn away from this device, it's definitely a concern or sthing to think about for people who is currently using super amoled or amoled devices.. hmm

Need both to balance, Nokia N8 have a good piece of hardware but bad software. |

Hardware and software both must be good.I don't want a good software wrapped by cheap plastic that won't last. Need both to balance, Nokia N8 have a good piece of hardware but bad software. If you have a nice software or OS, you don't have a good processor to run it, it's useless. Similarly, you have a very good hardware built, but you don't have a good OS to run it, it's a waste too. |

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Sep 25 2010, 05:38 PM) LCD display at 800x480 are fine already i guess.. quite sufficient already.. the only 800x480 which is not up to eye level is the one on X10 but i guess thats because the colours which is not on par with the others (Android 1.6 does not support up to 16M). And also, motorola android devices has a sharper display since its 854x480, not 800x480 compared to the rest. |

it is not that easy to get bored with smartphone compared to old time Nokia/SE phones with fixed program installed/installable. As long as there are interesting apps and games for the Android come out very frequently, I think I will get hooked to it quite long.

QUOTE(Cynox @ Sep 28 2010, 12:06 AM) it is not that easy to get bored with smartphone compared to old time Nokia/SE phones with fixed program installed/installable. As long as there are interesting apps and games for the Android come out very frequently, I think I will get hooked to it quite long. Yeap. Since Android is very flexible to end user. |

The estimate price retail RM2500 is plausible, looking at HTC pricing release of the last few Android smartphones. You can get one direct from UK unlock for GBP399 about RM2k. HTC pricing cannot be too high as the new iPhone4 is retailing at RM2.2 to 2.7k, so a RM2.5k price is right and competitive
While awaiting it, I have been playing with the HTC Desire HD rom on my HD2 last few days, would say is close to perfect, except only HTC Likes and HTCSense.com not available yet |

QUOTE(akira de aimbuster @ Oct 2 2010, 04:26 PM) Yea that is my concern too all droid did not give u good battery life except SE x10 more than 8 hours talktime on spec (3G)... My wildfire barely last 8 hours of abuse... That makes me consider iphone4 also if I buy a new phone, as per feedback from my colleague (sales) it still able to last him 2 days without charging n much better than 3gs... Hopefully they give us better battery life on higher end device... for me short battery life device defeat the purpose to have a smartphone on the go... Copied from a comparison review... Talk and standby times The HTC Desire HD boasts talk time up to 320 mins and standby up to 490 hours. The iPhone has a talk time up to 420 mins and standby up to 300 hours. The Samsung Galaxy S has a talk time up to 390 mins and standby up to 576 hours. All these times are for 3G. This post has been edited by michael9413: Oct 2 2010, 05:29 PM |
