went to a LFS for window shopping just now... saw they are selling 1L of Eheim Substrate Pro for rm70 only, the cheapest i have seen so far. 1L ADA bio rio for RM50. but the boxes are a bit old and dusty already. i think they are old stocks.

just wondering, will they actually "expired"? :S

thanks...

ahhaha tarak chui sui lar bro, betui betui flip through but i dont have teh excat idea what should i buy.. i dont wunna get conned ..
anyway for the co2 tank .. i was quoted rm160 for 1L aluminium tank and the solenoid type regulator at rm300 sweat.gif i think i'm gonna go for a low tech manual version regulator .. how much it gonna cost eh ?

speaking of those riccia ... any one wunna "donate" some to me ? ahhaha gua buy you teh o ais limau ! biggrin.gif
*
rm160 for 1l aluminium id say thats a very good price.. u can get a manual regulator from about rm60 - 80! rm250 all in all is a good price!

rm250 + 15(bubblcounter) + rm18(diffusor) + rm5(afew checkvalves) + rm2 (tubing) = rm290 and maybe a lil bit lesser.. maybe 260 la if u get a good price for the regulator

maybe people wont really donate.. the would sell at a cheaper price..i sold like rm100 worth of riccia for rm20 nia hahaha needed money to buy surface skimmer laugh.gif

went to a LFS for window shopping just now... saw they are selling 1L of Eheim Substrate Pro for rm70 only, the cheapest i have seen so far. 1L ADA bio rio for RM50. but the boxes are a bit old and dusty already. i think they are old stocks.

just wondering, will they actually "expired"? :S

thanks...

some people using their substrate pro for so many years no prob.. wont expired lar

its a good product.. but not as efficient la..

most people i know use this for algae removal or when their co2tank kasi hantar refill so use the excel for few days until the co2tank gets back!

one capfull every 3 - 4 days oso ok since ur plants are somewhat low maintanence plants

Excel is an organic carbon can supply carbon source for plants.
If use together with Co2 supplier it will bring a nice effect for your tank.

Not advise over use because will affect your shrimp even ur fish skin also can affect too.

hi, i am trying to get in use with this planted tank hobby

but not sure if the planted tank must have co2 tank? unsure.gif

coz i see got some people can grow the plant without co2 tank, so how he/she do it? only use special soil and some lighting?

helangkawi,
every plant need co2, as we human need o2..
it just matter about abit or alot... in planted tank if did not inject co2 in the water still have co2 but not as much as you inject in it for photosynthesis
co2 is one of the important thing to let plant grow healthy and fast...

congrats on V5..

helangkawi -> all planted tank must have co2 supply as for the plant to perform photosnthesis.... the only different is on plant type + amount of co2 needed for them to grow... if u go for low tech low light plant eg moss, u can get to ignore co2 supply or u can just diy... but if u r looking for nice plants, co2 is a must and presurised co2 is the way to go for long term saving...

Yup thats true.. but shrimp is unique...it matches the planted tank environment.. they are gentle too.. compared to fish..

I think nerite snail is the better algae eater

Keeping shrimps is way more difficult then keeping fish.

Fishes are so easy to keep.

It took me about 1 month plus to see the shrimplets swimming on my soil.

I will start selling when there is more, now i got 8 pregnant.

Just wondering what do you guys use for ferts? Is the norm just to use the off the shelf ferts?

Anyone using EI or PPS dosing? Seems like dry ferts are pretty hard to come by in KL/PJ. Am interested in trying EI or PPS but having a real challenge finding the dry ferts ...... short of going all the way to Camerons!!

ok. this is for those who are using ur T8 tube flourescent lamp and wants to convert over to T5 lamp tubes. there is a way to do this without changing ur lamp fixtures(casing, stand).

U wud need:

1) T5 tube itself
2) conversion kit
3) Stainless steel tube holding clip( this is only for those casing that secures the bulb with a clip)

I just did this. and ordered the conversion kit. here with i'll attach the instruction on how the kit is installed. it cost me RM 28 each. i had 4 bulbs. so RM124 includind shipping. the price doesn't include the T5 bulbs. the bulb is RM35 each. so in total i spent about RM 264 and saved my 500 ringgit casings(fixture). same may feel it's costly. but for someone like me who don't wanna spend another RM500 on changing the whole casing, it's worth it. even if u change a new casing, it doesn't come with the 6500K bulbs. u still have to change bulbs. so, do the math. it may just work out for u too.

my fixture is 4 feet. so, i'm guessing 3 feet tube. but tube i bought in East Aqua. the price was RM 35 for a 3 feet 6500K T5 tube. anywhere i can cheaper?

so yes, with the price above i think it's RM63 for kit and 3ft tube.

ok. since i'm getting lotsa useful infos in here.. theres another thing i was thinkin bout..

the eheim filter has different inlet and different outlet hose. inlet being 17mm and outlet being 13 mm.. is there anyway to make it standard to all 17 mm? any hose adapter i can find.. coz the one hardware shop is too big le.. cannot fit the 13 mm wan..

maybe this type would help.

for me it doesnt matter about the ballast, just ask the shop owner you want light bulb and all accessories to make the light switch on... they will suggest you... you dont need to know about the ballast thing... you only needed to know trying get the best price will do haha !!
then ask them show you which one fit which 1 then if can ask them try light once for you see then you will know =)

look in side google. i remember i saw some on somewhere. they use a small water pump + fan with heatsink. but that way can reduce to 25Celcius max only. not really efficient and will have great trouble fixing water leakage. get a 2nd hand chiller might be easier i think ? icon_idea.gif

want to ask sifu, i'm currently starting planted tank (2x1x1) and now considering buying Eheim canister since they have promotion. seems like 2213 is suitable for my tank.

But i have a future plan, i.e., if i get addicted, then i'll upgrade to my 4x2x2 tank which i used for my arowana (which dead already). Then 2213 is too small for it.

My questions are:
1. shall I go for 2217 which is suitable for 4 ft tank?
2. is 2217 too powerful for 2 ft tank?
3. is 2215 the best solution for me?

matrix,
my opinion is buy 2215, after you upgrade to 4 feet, buy another 2215 =)
as 4 feet tank only one 2217 i feel still low current...

Hmmm ....... if that is the case, then looks like EI or PPS is out of the question sad.gif
*
EI / PMDD it still can be use... i would suggest you get KNO3 will do as Potassium Nitrate... the another 2 will kill your shrimp... the P and N you can get from ur fish food =)
oh ya... ( remember if you over dosing, dead fish or etc problem happen... dont blame us not telling you 1st... you know what i mean dont ya? ) tongue.gif

Can DIY Co2 produce enough pressure for the inline diffuser to work???

my aircond 2metre away from my tank.. so atnight kasi on and shoot direct to tank!!

wake up 9am ur telur frozen liao then u see ur tank temp at 19'c!

u fast fast off aircond on lights and co2 and siam out of the room for 8hours..

the temp of the room still cold after 8hours and ur tank temp will rise just up to 23 -24'c

by the time it wana reach 25'c and above already 8hours light period so u kasi on itu aircond and shoot it straight to the tank.

repeat daily is recipe to successsss

my newbie tank biggrin.gif 1 month old. Just trimmed and replanted...biggrin.gif

Tank Spec:

Tank size : standard 2ft x 1ft x 1ft
Soil : Amazonia II + bacter100 + penac W + Penac P
Fliteration : Hydro Prime10 (I know it's not enough tongue.gif) with some bio ring, sponges and bacterballx3
lighting : 24wx2 + 55wx1
CO2: CO2 tank + manual regulator ( around 2~3bps)
Lighting period : 10am to 4pm (6 hours)
Flora: HC, dwarf HG, Round Pelia, E-tenullus, Moss (I forgot is taiwan or peacock or mix of both because i mixed those together in other tank), and I don't know what is my background plant. Anyone care to help? hehehe
Fauna : None.
Temp : 26c ~28c (With Fan)

Water parameter : GH (180ppm), KH (0ppm), pH (between 7 ~7.5, the color falls between both), NO2 (0ppm), N03 (40ppm)

So it that possible?? GH so high and KH so low? hmmm...maybe my test kit spoilt....ahha..long time nvr use already.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

HC is doing slow but good. Creeping all around and pearls too. HG is doing slow. I wonder why. and moss too but moss is a slow grower. And is making progress though. MY background plants are growing like crazy. Well, I'll wait another month to get the whole tank mature anyway. smile.gifsmile.gif

I'm looking for Mini riccia and Fissiden actually but by looking at my tank...i wonder where to put those 2 plants.

Comments are welcomed icon_rolleyes.gif

want to ask sifu again:

what is the tank size for yr CO2 system?

How long can it last?

I read from previous threads, some ppl said 2L tank can last for 6 mths or longer. But a LFS told me can only last for 2-3 mths (open 8-10 hrs a day)?

Sugar price already up high (and going to up again if our poor BN still ruling the country), so i consider buying a CO2 tank.

a good rule to follow for 2feet tanks or smaller is using only afew plants.. if too much plants then sure rojak and messy! Hehe

moss is actually fast growing plant btw lols! iur hc is doing good then ill say everything else will follow.. everything looks lush and heathy.. after a couple of trimmings im sure the backgrond plants will look beter and thicker! about gh kh all that dunno lol!

evrything looks good haha

I use super glue before and after a while, the glued part becomes white....
If i use cotton thread, will the moss eventually stick to the DW?

rm400? so d mahal unless it includes solenoid regulator.. 0.5liter tank should be priced around 180+- and a manual rgulator u can find for rm80+-
east aqua midvalley abit mahal cuz big shop in shpping mall..try go to a shop not in a shopping mall ull get cheaper prces

nope.. it wont stick.. some will.. but most of it wont stick at all.. once u tie with cotton thread or fishing line, when the moss grow u wont be able to see the thread also.. so no reason for u to remove the thread later on

My guppy keep die in last few days. I lost 18 of them. Any idea?

It is because of the Neon Rosy Barbs fish bully them? or too many fish in my tank?

I've 20 guppy and 10 Neon Rosy in my tank.

From animal-world.com >> A minimum of 20 gallons is recommended for a school of these fish.

your tank is too pack i think. but neon rosy is rated as peaceful fish. lack of food? or u put too much of deco inside the 1feet tank?

I had that before, it works but some time the CO2 dissolved to quickly..
making your fauna suffocate.. Cheap and last a while to... but kindly high maintainance coz you need to monitor it everyday.

im shocked with the diy thing you doing... but i dont encourage you to screw the driftwood to the stainless steel plate... as they might rust... i know you will say STAINLESS STEEL... for a long period of Chemistry Dosing AKA Fertilizer it will RUST... and if doesnt... it will affect your water ph or condition too.. if im you i wont take the risk... it will have alot of dilemma happen later..

about soaking the driftwood, i dont think you need as you bought from fish shop... they have soaked it already...
except you get it from wild you need soak urself... =)

oh, ppl call me the man of DIY. maybe because i just have the resources. i'm lucky in that sense. here's my other DIY outta so many i've made.

snake hooks. top quality.

Thanks for the feedback brother..
We are machine manufacturer. one of the machine that we make is a cryogenic blasting machine. this particular machine need to be fully stainless steel, made with chemical resistant grade stainless steel. there's two grades of stainless steel. there's 304 and 315 grades. the 304 is the regular grade and the 315's are chemical resistant. this is the grade we use to make our machine. the pieces that i use are extra laser cut pieces from makin the machine. even the screws are special ordered 315 grade. i'm more than confident that the fertiliser won't cause any corrosion on the SS pieces.

so, i guess we're good to go. thumbup.gif but anyhow that's for the concern. sorry i had to be a smarty-art and get all technical. i just wanted to make sure that u know that i'm aware. thanks again. icon_rolleyes.gif

yes. as michanz said. i'd rather be safe than sorry. i'll just soak the wood just to satisfy my conscience. hmm.gif

Hahahaa. i actually never thot of DIY lily pipes. but by the looks of it, it requires much more resources than what i currently possess. i believe it requires mass manufacturing to lower the costing. then, it won't be DIY anymore. other than working with flat glasses, i don't think shapy glasses can DIY. period. blush.gif such a bummer isn't it.

but RM 150 for a set of lily pipes isn't too bad now, is it?

ive seen people diy lily pipes using acrylic tubings.. lazy to google the site..

first they take a small acrylic tube, burn the end close, then from one end blown air while u heat up the acrylic tube and the acrylic expands into a bubble.. from there on he cuts it at an angle and POOFF! become lilly pipe lol!

ive seen people diy lily pipes using acrylic tubings.. lazy to google the site..

first they take a  small acrylic tube,  burn the end close, then from one end blown air while u heat up the acrylic tube and the acrylic expands into a bubble.. from there on he cuts it at an angle and POOFF! become lilly pipe lol!
usually planted aquariums dont play background image punya.. lol!! well if u cant find any out there i suggest u photoshop watever color and howmany tone u want and go kedai print to the size u need.. lolz

Well, usually when i DIY something, i'd like it to look very professional, almost up to perfection. I'm sure making lily pipes outta acrylic tubing would show some blemishes and imperfection. it defeats the reason of using lily pipes in the first place(to have a very classy and sleek look). and unlike glass, acrylic can stain( become milky) after a long period..for that very reason i dun see any harm in getting the rm150 glass immitation lily pipe. laugh.gif

hmm, bout the background. if u say so. then ai-ai captain. will stick to no background for now. i'll see what i feel like doin later on.

arh ? bubble counter is easy to make nia.
and you must use check valve or the pressure wont be strong enough to push the air out from bubble counter to diffuser. flex.gif

2) i already have GEX soil in my current tank. but when i transfer it to my new tank, i was thinkin maybe i need more soil? what soil wud be a good addition? perhaps amazonia?

3) where can i buy riccia? i last 3 lfs's i checked, they didn't have it. 88 petsmart and east aqua ikano. and also i'll need some ferns too.

thanks in advance.

1) About the products that u mention: for me im using ADA 5 elements to maintain my tank...so far so good...glosso growing like mad...no algae problem...maintain dosage for half year...

2) Top up ADA amazonia will be good...but becareful....dont add those soil immediately as it will lowered your ph in a dangerous rate which might be harmful for your fauna.

3)why not try to get some fissiden?

pic will be helpful...i guess it is hair algae...

I went there 2 days ago. It's not very difficult to find it if u familiar with that area.

From Alam Damai u go towards Damai Perdana.

At Balai Polis Alam Damai traffic light, GO STRAIGHT. Next traffic light is Damai Perdana traffic light. LEFT TURN.

Go straight about 200m, you will meet another traffic light (u see 2 storey terrace house on yr left and some shop lots on yr right). GO STRAIGHT.

You should keep in right lane because you must TURN RIGHT 50m after traffic light. NPA is at intermediate shop lot in 2nd row.

Hope u can find it. They have good stuffs.

3)fissiden is good too. i wanna tie some on my layer rocks.. where u think i can aquaire them? any lfs u know?

yes. it is hair algae. i googled it. i'll read up on how to rid it..

The 5 Elements, you dun need so much so no need to buy the bottle. Just buy by scoops, only RM2 to RM3 per scoop.

no point of going DIY chiller... as you DIY it will cost more than you buy a proper chiller... the only DIY thing you cannot do is the Chiller...

for 2nd Hand Chiller rm 600 for 2 feet tank...

what's the point of buying expensive thing as it can hike up to RM100++ for DIY chiller?

the cons of it might be short circuit or not sustain or etc problem happen latter on... why not just invest in a proper chiller? lolz... well i just give out point of view... =) no offence...

good luck in DIYing CHiller

haha yeah! but i mean if u dont put oso its ok.. but if u put its always better ;D
but for me i think wats the most important is the bacter100 + super clear!

bacter 100 is all the goodie bacteria in powder form waiting to be kick started to life!
and super clear is actually the food for the bacter100 to grow!! interesting right! haha

you took the words directly outta my mouth! hhahahhaha
everytime people ask for cheap this and that i dunno how to answer.. so many variaables! maybe cheap but not goood or very good but expensive but actually cheaper cuz higher worth of the product..

like c02 tank.. an aluminium tank could be priced at rm200 - 300 considered cheap becoz its an aluminium

and the fire extinguishr tank is rm120 considered cheap for some.. but expensive becoz u get a crap tank! lol

Added on July 23, 2010, 7:59 pmto u guys wana diy chiller jangan memandai la.. straight go and buy off the shelf!

unless u have so much free time and extra money to test test here there then oni go ahead lol

u dont wana spend rm100 - 150 for all the materials and end up it all doesnt work right!

Try keeping RCS first.

with manual regulator or auto regulator?

coz in east aqua ikano, the 3L tank alone is RM 280 only. and in a shop nearby my house, manual regulator is RM 30, auto regulator is RM 120. and also in east aqua ikano in-line CO2 diffuser is RM48. anymore extra thing u need is a bubble counter and 2 check valves which will total to about RM 10. now let's do the calculation:

manual setup:

tank: RM 280
man reg: RM 30
diff: RM 48
misc: RM 10
TOTAL: RM 368

auto setup:

total + RM 90(difference between the reg price) = RM 458

so..........

damn this google map is darn confusing.. but somehow i managed to add the location on google map.

search for 'Five fish Trading selayang jaya' in google maps. if can probably add it to the first page la..

note: well, he doesn't offer any warranty la. but he has one that he's been using for two years and he claims no issue.

on another note: the only thing that can go caput in a auto regulator is the solenoid valve. i just asked my purchasing manager to source for a cheap one-way solenoid valve. we actually use a three-way miman solenoid valve for one of our machine. but that's a branded three-way valve. even that is only 115. i believe a non branded one-way valve can get for 30-40 bucks. but i'll wait my my manager to get back to me and then i'll update here.. so, even if the solenoid valve gone, can get a replacement.

Already updated wat. i put up the map to the lfs on google. he's selling the solenoid regulator for RM 120 la. the other sourcing i'm doin is for future. just incase the solenoid valve alone gets spoiled in the regulator. then we can replce the solenoid valve alone instead of changing the whole regulator. you get it? thumbup.gif

guys how do i solve pesty snail problem. i'm not sure what type of snail are they. but i noticed about3 of them in my tank? are they of any good use? will they eat hair algae? if they're just merely pests, how do i get rid of em?

better not, if not making the water very unstable and acidic. coz usually when u add ADA soil to the water the pH value will drop

removing water and fish into another holding tank is good.. but the new soil mixed in + new water means that hafto recycle the tank all over again..if too much new water the beneficial bacteria in ur filter will too die off a little bit.. u need to get the balance right.. alot of ways to do it..

tak siok la buy decorated already.. ull only get the satisfaction when u do it urself..

1ft tank - rm30 - 40
filter - what type? hob? a good HOB lah lets say rm25 - 30
soil - rm38 u siok edi good slope
lights - diy rm50 enuff.. got extra i think
- if LFS beli there rm50 for lampa light.. but looks good.. lower wattage from diy also..

total cost - rm150 roughly..

rm300? not really that worth it la.. that extra rm150 u can buy super kao beautiful rocks/driftwood + expensive plants!

puffer? not smart at all! u pay rm3 for a mini puffer, they eat 3 snail in 2hours.. then they will kacau ur fish, eat ur shrimps if u have any. end up not only ur snails gone.. ur fish all also gone haha left 1 puffer inside.. xD

pick them 1by1! crush them and let ur fish or shrimp have a little snack!

smarter way? boiled cucumber or fresh cucumber campak inside on the floor leave it for a couple of hours come back ull see all the snails munching on the cucumber u pick up the cucumber with the snails and go campak into sAMpah! heheheehe

er..Off topic...now Apple allow jailbreaking already..haha....so it's legal instead of illegal....

back to topic...

agree with michanz...dun put dwaft puffer into the tank but if you have a dedicate tank for dwaft puffer then you can put it in the tank..kill all the snails..then transfer back to its tank..

another way is to pick up one by one....or put cucumber...as suggested by michanz. I failed to do so because i dunnu why my cucumber with sink no matter wat i do..haha

another one will be assasin snail!! Antentome Helena. But i personally nvr seen the real one before here. Asked around lfs around my house but dun have. So cant give much info on real experience. biggrin.gif

ya, screw the puffer.
Just pick it up 1 by 1.. sometimes the cucumber not working. But if want to use, put the cucumber in those plastic bottle that cut in half, easier to pick it up.
Usually i only pick up snail when i do water changes.

You could try no planaria... it will kill planaria and some snails.. it wont harm fish and snail.. the downside is.. it is too expensive... You can find asssasin snails in NA subang jaya.. they got plenty of it.

You should soak it in hot water for a week or so... that will help to reduce the tannins.
or you could use purigen smile.gif

There will be more mid range plants (any suggestion?) added later on to cover the rotala stems. hope the rotala can grow longer fast so can act as a background. whistling.gif

since i didn't add any new soil, and i used the same filter and same water. 24 hours after setting up i put the fauna in. they seem ok. hopefully none dies. hmm.gif

now my hand are really itchy for a chiller shakehead.gif

moe81,
Just some opinion no offense ok?

1, should use different size of rock to separate the white sand smaller rocks better looks natural

2.one mistake that every aquascaper does.. 3:1 golden ratio is apply wrongly as the river should not in the MIDDLE...

3.Planting Rotala is wrong too... should not plant red, green , red ,green... concentrate the red one in the ratio (golden thinggy) as your eye will catch attraction on that place...

3.arrangement of wood should be follow the natural feel as the the wood bending should be natural not you go make it other way round ( this hard to explain in words for me , if i able to show you face to face easier to understand )

4.should not plant it flat... i mean make behind soil higher "Slope"

5.Dont put in fauna yet as your cycle haven complete...
you may put fish after a week if you using cycle bacteria

Good Luck...

if the wood makes your water look yellow it tends to have ammonia on them, drift to use those with smooth edges rather than those whihc are rough and texture

Yea u're right.. but then i was thinkin if the rocks are smaller, woudn't it get burried in the deep soil? so, i was hoping the moss will outgrow and cover most part of the stone. let's just hope it works.

2.one mistake that every aquascaper does.. 3:1 golden ratio is apply wrongly as the river should not in the MIDDLE...

well i wouldn't say it's a mistake. it may not look as aesthetically pleasing. it's not by any book. and it's not ruining anything by drastic measure. Fyi, i've seen lotsa price winning aquascapes with river in the middle. i believe it's merely preference that became a standard for grading. so, just because something isn't to another ones preference, it's wrong? only if doing something in one way that it's detrimenting another, it's wrong.

3.Planting Rotala is wrong too... should not plant red, green , red ,green... concentrate the red one in the ratio (golden thinggy) as your eye will catch attraction on that place...

well another wrong here. ok i get ur point here. but i hope you get mine!

3.arrangement of wood should be follow the natural feel as the  the wood bending should be natural not you go make it other way round ( this hard to explain in words for me , if i able to show you face to face easier to understand )

4.should not plant it flat... i mean make behind soil higher "Slope"

it actually has a 4 to 2 inch slope from behind.

5.Dont put in fauna yet as your cycle haven complete...
you may put fish after a week if you using cycle bacteria

well, i guess it's too late now. we'll just have to wait and see if the fauna survives.

Good Luck...

Kenneth

I'm not mad at anyone brother. Precisely my point. we're in a forum. so we discuss and advice.. there's a thin line between advising and scrutinizing. carelessly constructed words may offend many. I've been foruming for more that 10 years now. tho i'm new to lowyat. i've been on international forms. those are: kingsnake.com, ukmuscle.com, the late malaysiafauna.com, docserpent.com, so many more pitbull forums. i've experienced how ppl from all around the world advices. sometimes, ppl get well over their head and need to be put to their place. i'm still not mad at anyone. observe carefully, i construct my words with care. making sure points get delivered. i can choose to be a nutbag and start flamming but that won't be very civilized, now would it?

come on ppl. nobody is born pro on anything. this life is a learning process. if u can't be politely constructive to those beginners, then y bother.

relax relax...

maybe the rephase the statement to "If for me, I'd go for side river instead of middle because I feel it's more eye catching"

or

" I'd plant rotala red and green individually so tat they will look more outstanding compare to red, green, red, green"

just opinion...hehe

btw.....

i guess my otto is dem hungry, my tank is almost clean now....and i couldn't find my RCS. I wonder my filter inlet suck them into my filter already as i nvr close up my inlet for shrimp.....but my inlet is "inside" my background plant..wonder okay or not...

hmmm

this week going to KW or CTY to buy more otto and those potassium and stuff..

one thing people... if i dose JBL ferropol, will it be the same?

Very happening here hor while I was away lol!!.... wahahahaha.

1st, it's plainly his personal opinion and I agree on all statements where this is a forum, discussions are open. Some way get heated up but in the end its still up to the tank owner. So what if some people like Algae LOL.

these are my opinion to your opinions and views

1. The looking natural part of the dividing rocks. It's more of a common practice. Since we dont (expect) any growth on the white sand, what can block your straight view from the front to the back? well Personally I would place bigger ones in the front while slowly getting smaller to the back while zigzagging each other out. shows depth. Again, personal tastes.

2. As Moe81 mentioned, the 3:1 rule is never a must. as long as the FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL is there. or you get that tingly sensation when you do your scape. well, youre the owner, u syok, can d lo. but of course, sometimes winning other's overall syokness can boost self ego (LOL)

3. Planting of rotala.. the colouration and mix is definitely , again personal choice. Uniform would be easiest to give power to it ( as kenneth mentioned )Personally, I wouldn't plant it that way too. I dont mean colour schemes but I will back achingly plant 2-3 stems per bunch only having 0.5cm apart from each other. Trust me, the work is worth it.

= ALSO, ill avoid planting the rotala towards the middle exactly behind the white sand unless you know what youre doing ( religious trimming and proper trimming method)

4. Well, i have to say his wood placement is Simple and Nice IMHO. I'm not very good with wood. so I won't go on further.

5. ahh.. SLOPE. my favourite. A little slope is always a great addition to any tank. but never a must, If you can create the depth without the use of slope. then memang pro leh. ( aka. master simmy) otherwise, the utilization of SLOPE is more emphasized on IWAGUMI or rock scapes. woody. can or can not to withotu depending on scape. I personally would add more for your tank but not too much.

6. Agree on the fauna comment. thats it.

END OF constructive(?) COMMENT
===============

BEGINNING OF RANT

Come one you guys. I like where this forum kakis are growing up to. not to say Im a sifu or pioneer or god knows what but LOL!

No point frying asses here and there. Just have a nice looking scape. Take pic. and shareeee.. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Peace Out.
Andrew

I like your tank, simple and nice... And most importantly no algae thumbup.gif , but mine is covered with them... cry.gif . And is that an eheim HOB filter???

I'm also starting shrimp tank, but I'm starting with RCS, lost the first batch of 30 cause my shrimps were eaten by my harlequins, now I removed them and I'm on my way to getting the next batch.

From what I read about, you need to cover the filter inlet with sponge, if not the shrimps will get sucked in. I covered mine but some still went in the filter through the surface skimmer inlet on the water surface. tongue.gif I tune down the suction on top and it solved it.

And for CRS you need to keep the temperature low, less then 26 degrees I think, so their color will be more vibrant and they'll breed. How much your tank temperature??? You keep your tank in an air conditioned room???
Someone mention before that if you keep CRS at high temperature their color will turn to almost transparent and they won't breed.

Concerning CRS I am no expert, I read about them and found out they are out of my budget. Hope someone can verify and correct the CRS facts that I posted. notworthy.gif

And is the foreground plant glosso??? IMO, you should plant them in small patches so they will sent runners and propagate faster and also plant them deeper until only the leaves are exposed on the surface. I tried them once, my lighting wasn't bright enough so they grew taller but no runners. Haiz... blush.gif

Ottos are safe because theyre primarily , vegetarians.

Go ahead why not add some more moss.

Also, I would take more notice about the temperature in the afternoon as it may spike well over 30c.

Wow! uncle drew finally appeared ! biggrin.gif! in order to get into CRS, the key is temperature for me, if no budget go for a chiller or air-conditioner room like ME, back to RCS.

+1 for uncle drew !
Seriuosly how u plant, how u trim, how u scape is very subjective, go for it as long as you FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL nice & satisfied. Of cause if you wants/willing to improve your skillsssss, you can decide to listen to other & do some research about the aquascaping.

p/s: im just a little fella who just own a 1ft cube + some BBA+MOSS+Hairgrass + few humble RCS. just to share out some of my opinion. DONT SHOOOOT ME sad.gif

your tank is small, mind share the dimension of your tank ? quite difficult for the CRS to breed in the tank, unless you just wants some CRS as eye candy. biggrin.gif Red Cherry Also not bad mah. tongue.gif

@booby: with the tank size you have, you gotta be very careful if you were to keep shrimps because all the parameters in ur tank will flactuate easily. the bigger tank the more stable water parameter u'll have but nvm, i have successfully breed RCS in 1.5ft tank. They are hardy. And maybe you should introduce a fan for it. Set timer and on the fan whenever your aircon is off.

add more moss. I heard shrimps snack on moss as well. Hehehe. but dun get jawa moss. Too normal looking, go mac and look for other type of moss...heheehehh

oh yea.. i forgot to get back on this issue. i'm not kidding you guys. i bought mine for RM 120 from that very shop. Even my cost price is 200 and ppl are selling it for 300+ outside." shakehead.gif hmm, what can say.. my intetion was never to deceive anyone. just so that u guys know.

for those who want to keep CRS. well we have CRS keepers like michanz who keeps them without chiller by using the air con and shut the room door technique. I use to do that last time, but the inconsistency of temperature when the air con is switch off will caused fluctuate of the tank's temperature. Well thats from my exp. That imbalance will caused the CRS to either die or no pregnant.

so i got myself a chiller. still die. so i added some NA carbon from ADA directly into the tank, where i heard this from? ADA salesman in msia, he keeps CRS as well and they are beautiful.

then after a while, my CRS started to get pregnant, more n more, now after 2 months after i inserted the chiller, i have more then 100 shrimplets.

but even with chiller, from what i read, the ideal temp isnt 20-23, but its at 25. if its 26 the eggs hatch faster. but i set my chiller to 23-25 range. so it will be always around there.

beware of the type of drift wood you put into ur tanks as well, from what i heard from the ADA salesman, the drift wood which have lots of texture which tend to make the water yellowish tends to secrete ammonia which is harmful for CRS. no no good.

Here guys and gurls, hereby i share my CRS tank, consists of HC, glosso, fissidens, philia or spelled that way. some stem plant to help absorb nutrients and break down dangerous ammonia. also some snow hites, no entry, near mosura, and 2 otto of not to miss my old old cherry shrimps

hmmm, from what the ADA sales man said, it help to absorb all the bad stuff like ammonia and creates a save living environment for ur CRS. well maybe he was trying to sell me his ADA products. but it works for me la. i am not sure it will do the same with others.

Bro, dont worry le, i also try so many times. die n die n die.

when started i put the whole pack into the tank. then after 40days, i bought another pack open it, and put into smaller nets. split the serving heheh save money but still put lo

Added on July 29, 2010, 4:46 pmother brand i have tried, but i put into my friends cherry shrimp tank, but dunno le, i only tried ADA ones. but they are really priceyyyy.

others half the price nia.

Wow! uncle drew finally appeared ! biggrin.gif! in order to get into CRS, the key is temperature for me, if no budget go for a chiller or air-conditioner room like ME, back to RCS.

Added on July 29, 2010, 1:05 am
your tank is small, mind share the dimension of your tank ? quite difficult for the CRS to breed in the tank, unless you just wants some CRS as eye candy.  biggrin.gif Red Cherry Also not bad mah.  tongue.gif
*
haha yea small tank brows.gif actually just want CRS as eye candy, since so many CRS lovers here, make me wanna try out too haha brows.gif

about the carbon ah, should wash first before put in filter? seems like very black the water when i tried to rinse it, don't dare put in my filter yet ...

puffer? not smart at all! u pay rm3 for a mini puffer, they eat 3 snail in 2hours.. then they will kacau ur fish, eat ur shrimps if u have any. end up not only ur snails gone.. ur fish all also gone haha left 1 puffer inside.. xD

pick them 1by1! crush them and let ur fish or shrimp have a little snack!

smarter way? boiled cucumber or fresh cucumber campak inside on the floor leave it for a couple of hours come back ull see all the snails munching on the cucumber u pick up the cucumber with the snails and go campak into sAMpah! heheheehe

I have a spare tank, (just can't fit my custom design shelf), it is a 3L tank made in Taiwan (not China), I can sell it to you at rm 250, and a basic regulator at rm 30, as is basis (last use is 2 weeks from today - almost finish)

And a lot of clearance lah

And about how long will a 0.5L last?, it depends on how many bubbles/sec you release, for my 2 ft (11G), a 3L lasts for almost 6 months, considering that I use a very good reactor.

GEX is cheaper, of course there are other brands which I have never heard off, about substrate what really matters is the cleanliness, about fertility, you can always use powersand or fertilisers (non liquid type)
