HornetTek Viper? But it is really not worth to have eSATA enclosure right now, with USB 3.0 is ready for prime time soon

Are you looking at external hard drive? Get the larger cache if possible, if you using for heavy duty

Still manage to get the data? If not, it is pretty much a brick. Data recovery cause an arm and a leg.

Is 500GB going to be enough for what you're going to use it for? sweat.gif You can easily get 1TB or more for around the same price.

hi guys, i need so advise on the hdd setup
im using an old sata Samsung 80GB hdd as my primary OS, and the games folder is installed in 500GB WD Caviar Green.

ran some benchmark, and found out that the Samsung 80GB hdd half the performance of Caviar Green. yea, i know green is already slow, and this Samsung is half of that speed. cry.gif
since games are installed in the Caviar, does replacing the old Samsung to a faster HDD (im thinkin WD Black) improves gaming performance?

i dont think that will help a lot, maybe help in windows loading time, and maybe slightly faster when it accesses some system files while you game, but the main thing is that your games are still in the caviar green. would be better if you move the games to the faster hdd.

Just bought a 1 tera WD Black the other day, with 5 years warranty - sweet. Anyway, it runs hot! 54 celcius if continuous reading/writing in room temperature.
Almost same temperature as my 2 year old WD raptor.

Storelab notes that read/write head failure is somewhat characteristic for WD drives. Failures primarily occur as a result of physical impact or overheating (WD heads can be sensitive at temperatures above 45°C).
