SATA offers several advantages over the older parallel ATA (PATA) interface: reduced cable-bulk and cost (reduced from 80 wires to seven), faster and more efficient data transfer, and hot swapping.

Speedfan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
HDDScan http://hddscan.com/
Speedfan allows comparing your SMART results to online database for more suggestive informations.
HDDScan, external hard disk cannot retrieve SMART? This software supports all, even monitor your external hard disk temperature, cool? Hell yeah~

These 2 software are the most that I used to retrieve the SMART info from my hard disk. Speedfan even allow you to compare your result to online database for more information.
If you feel performance drop, watch for "Relocated sectors count" or "Pending sectors count", these 2 by far is what make the hard disk slows down, even with fresh installed windows, it still slows down after few hours usage. So don't think SMART is not much of a use, it's a preventive warning to your precious data.

If possible TS please put these information on the first page, thanks  thumbup.gif

For Western Digital, warranties for the Caviar Blue, Caviar Green and Scorpio Blue hard drives will be reduced to two years from three years.

Seagate’s new warranty policies will become effective on Dec. 31, and Western Digital’s changes will begin Jan. 2, 2012. Hard drives bought before those dates will retain their original warranty policies.

Just wait..?
I think there are a few smaller shops hiding around the corner in LYP that may still have a few left, but they'd probably mark up the price to above RM200.

general performance lo, you won't see any much different unless benchmarking,
OS drive, get 7200rpm drive, storage, you can get those Green series drive

generally there isn't any 7200rpm drive for more than 1TB that is non expensive.

WD Blue 500gb (7200rpm) comes with 16mb
WD Green 1tb (5400rpm) comes with 64mb for Advanced Format Drive
WD Black 1tb (7200rpm) also comes with 64mb for Advanced Format Drive
