HDD reliability doesn't concern the brand or model.
Mostly luck and usage, bad luck bought already got problem, high usage and no proper cooling will result shorter life as well.
But if the product doesn't condem, the manufacturer will slowly bankrupt as well... no people will go for new product cause it'll last forever =.="

What was the firmware that actually have that freaky problem again? SD15??
If it's still the same firmware, go ahead and ask Seagate to flash it for free, and your data still retain for some reason, or you can flash it yourself. (Do backup before proceed)
If you're still wary... then do backup daily or weekly for that hard disk, or you could just sell it off at cheap price brows.gif see if anyone willing to pick it up. wink.gif

Ah that... you might need to save your SMART info and let Seagate see if that's eligible, they might not warranty some part of the hard disk, it all depends.

I'm using one of the earlier model, F3EG 2TB, coolest hard disk in all my hard disk setup, might consider F4EG 2TB this Saturday if the shop still stock it.

You mean the WD Smartware software?
You can try downloading the software update or firmware update from here:

There isn't any other software inside besides the smartware. Unless what she meant was the data inside the hard disk. Come to think of it, the smartware software is in a virtual cd, and i think it's hidden inside the hard disk, so maybe she might have deleted something else.

What kind of enclosure? Better check the enclosure whether support it or not. Try WD? Since it is quite common available now. Around 170myr?
