Well a bit of details like how to do speedtest , when to complain , information about quota would do. Basically some information about the broadband would also. Dont stress yourself with this information. Since you want to maintain this thread , let it grow first. If someone posts some valuable info , just transfer it to your first post so that it will be easier

Cheers

last time checked Digi, Celcom all don't have HSDPA.
Only U Mobile has HSDPA in there.

umobile download speed is very fast but upload speed is only 50kbs (more or less).
the coverage area also limited.
i often travel around (to johor, penang, kuantan, ...etc)
say in the middle of the highway somewhere near Tangkak or near Taiping (tempat rehat RR) want to check email.....you can do that with Maxis, Celcom or Digi but umobile broadband's coverage not yet there.

if you are heavy downloader, why not getting higher quota, like 6gb/12gb? 3gb is just enough for basic surfer.

P1 modem is also powered by USB?
can bring the modem together with the laptop with us where ever we go?
but no information on upload speed only has download speed (600kb/s for the RM59 package)

The RM89 package is very attractive.
1.5Mb/s download speed and 15GB data quota compare to Digi RM88 explore package which is only 700kb/s and 10GB quota.

around 90% uptime
pretty impressive i would say
*
i used to do that also,
while driving on PLUS highway, have my laptop connected to internet.
With Maxis BB, it will disconnect after the car move several kilometer.
You stop the car reconnect, start driving but it disconnect again after few kilometer driving.

I tried with Digi also, Digi is more stable, seldom disconnect but you can't do much thing under gprs.
Just have the email page loaded.

even small town also has HSDPA coverage and it is above 1.5Mb/s download speed for all package (whether it is RM48/month or RM68/month or RM98/month or RM178/month). rclxms.gif

I suppose the problem is somewhat gone? The speed as of 11.23PM is considerably slower than morning, but is still very much usable, with some refresh in between. smile.gif

I am wondering is it something wrong with the prepaid broadband recently?
sometimes I cannot connect to the prepaid broadband page ~ sometimes this error message :" Error 500: Filter [State Cleanup]: filter is unavailable." will come out. damn frustrated~
*
I have tried prepaid broadband (Hotlink) before also.
very often, although already activate the weekly plan.
when after connect, open browser, it only open the default page that is the prepaid broadband default page.
and no other website can be open.

need to disconnect, reconnect tried many time than only able to access other website.

maxis also stable than celcom..
*
the stability might depend on the USB HSDPA modem?
When i use Huawei E1762 that provided by Maxis, it quite often disconnect by it self.
but when i use ZTE MF100, it is more stable.
I got this ZTE MF100 when i signup U mobile last time but now i have cancel the account.

E1762 is a 3.75G modem max download speed 7.2Mb/s
ZTE MF100 is a 3.5G modem max download speed is 3.6Mb/s

just now i was in TimeSquare 1st floor Starbucks.
no Maxis HSDPA in there, only has Edge.  (noaday i refrain my self from connect free public wifi because of bad experience)
last time checked Digi, Celcom all don't have HSDPA.
Only U Mobile has HSDPA in there.
*
The fact is TimeSquare belong to Tan Sri Vincent Tan who also managing the Umobile.
That's might be the reason. So Umobile the one and only ISP.

modem type/model do play significant role in the stability.
each modem hv different signal strenght/etc.. if u wan to improve the speed/coverage for e1762, you can purchase external antenna for it.

for me, rm48 for 3gb is a good offer if there is no contract for it.. for now, i'm payin rm48 for 1.5GB nia..
to confirmed whether the offer is true or scam, u may call maxis to clarify on this.
just make sure there is no contract for it, and no termination fees if u were to terminate it.

I need some help here.

First I switch over to Maxis new package RM 65 /mth for 6G package in March.

In may, the bill for old package and new package came. I called up and they said the old modem still active. My god, I already returned old modem when I switch.

also when I switch I was completely denied maxis bb for 2 weeks becos they said buzy doing a switch. I complain and complain and nothing happen.

after all this problem, I know how disorganize and how mismanage maxis is.

I hate to go again to maxis centre cos of the waiting and can I know how to lodge a complain about my case and vent my frustration.

we consumers are bullied by this operators and unfair treatment. treat customers with dignity.

i hv been goin to tm for 3 times dy, everytime askin the same thing n they juz photostat my bill/etc and ask me to ignore it..

when the first time you plug in the e1762 to yr nb/pc, it will detect it and then you need to install the driver/etc..
other than this, you don't need to change anything at all.

did it give you any error when you click "connect" on the maxis dashboard?

i know of 2 way u can get the sim number used for the maxis bb.

1st. call to the service center and get from them, but you need to do some verification b4 they give it to u
2nd. put the maxis bb sim into a phone, and then sms to yr own hp using the bb sim.

sing-up in Maxis Centre http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/service/m...entre/index.asp
activate will be faster.

1st time i sign-up they activate my SIM card on the spot. (RM78/month, i cancel this account after 1 month)

than after 1 month i sign-up again (because the subscription fee has reduce and with free modem)
this time my SIM card got activated after 2 hours.

once you sign up, u need to wait for the line to be activated.
most probably few hrs to a day... or u can call to maxis CS to check whether yr line has been activated or not.

if u plan to download a lot of stuff, wireless bb is not a good plan for you as there is the download quota.
6GB plan will need rm98 while 12GB is rm178.

heavy download, pls get wired bb which doesn't have any download/upload quota.
only get wireless bb if you are out of option for wired services or you travel around a lot.

problem is high signals does not mean high throughput (depends on current traffic)

even if u get FULL HSPA bars, you will still get sucky throughout if your area cannot cope with concurrent usage/traffic.

me guess Maxis changed their hardware, but didnt increase concurrent connections. therefore more ppl are fighting to access from the same area (base stations).

don't you all think RM68/month for 3GB data volume is too expensive.
I would rather use it to subscribe astro.
never mind without internet.
maybe get a lower cost one,
one low cost internet account for send/receive email that is all enough.

The cheapest one is Celcom broadband entry package

Celcom broadband entry package is RM38/month,
although speed is 256kb/s only and monthly usage volume is only 500MB
should be enough for send/receive email
but This package can only be subscribed along with any Celcom Voice Plan.

maybe you should read it more carefully about this package.. below is some highlight from yr link.
we need to have celcom voice plan to use this and tethering using mobile phone is very slow.
i rather pay rm48 for 1.5GB. just my 2 cent nia.. smile.gif

If you're always on the move, and your mobile phone is your preferred access for downloads, here's a plan just for you!
This package can only be subscribed along with any Celcom Voice Plan.

yes, absolutely rite!

they r overselling to meeting the target number to show their mgmt!

whereas in fact, their network is limited/unable to cope with surge of demands from users

Maxis is thinking like a road-transport ministry: get ppl to buy cars first, then if so much traffic, expand the roads, add traffic lights, add more cops bribing, etc. ...

agree with you on this.. not just maxis, streamyx/celcom/etc also same shit..
i just wish them to provide me a stable connection, i don't expect them to give me 10mb/etc line.
1mb stable line is more than enough for me.

I know about the usage cap but what I found suspicious about is that they mentioned the speed limit as uncapped. but anyways it doesn't matter as we can't even hit that high rated speed either wink.gif

speed limit uncapped means... if the tower can give 7.2mbps u can get that speed theoretically.. if the tower 3.6mbps so you can get 3.6mbps theoretically

last time.. youth package is capped at 3.6mbps.. so if u use maxisbb n the nearby maxis tower can go 7.2mbps... u only can get upto 3.6mbps

i repetitively mention theoretically because... most of the time you wont get that speed... unless that maxis tower serves very small number of ppl n NO ONE is hogging the network

well for the record...
i did manage to get 6.9mbps HSDPA at 3am-5am at my hometown in Taman Sri Cempaka Muar when they recently commision their new tower 600m from my house

same goes to my wife's hometown when the tower recently put 3G equipments so we did hit 3.5mbps HSDPA during day time at 3pm (coz the tower is located at a very very rural tourist spot - Jeram Pasu, Pasir Puteh)

so... you can hit that rated speed.. if you are lucky enuff whistling.gif

just wanna to ask something. i am the new user for MAXIS broadband and i just receive the bill for the 1st month.
in the bill, i found that my monthly amount is RM 180++!!
then minus with the RM 150 as my payment during the signing for the MAXIS, the 1st month amount that needed to pay is RM 31++

so, my question is, why did the my monthly amount will become so high while the package i signing for is RM 68 package only?
beside that, did i still will enjoy the monthly RM 30 rebate?

any reply is much appreaciated, thanks~

Location : Taman Cheras and Taman Desa Aman .
Package : 1.5GB RM48 (free modem RM150 advance)

Verdict : Crap doh.gif ... don't use in the location above as once you get to cap ... you are goner ... it really really cap around 10% only ... some email also cannot open ...

once you paid the rm150 during the sign up, u will get the modem as free..
only cons of this is you won't get back the rm150 even if you terminate it after 1 months.
best is to use it for the full 5 months as you will be getting rm30 rebate for the 1st 5 months.

last week peak hours only can get 400kbps until now..

as far as broadband users are concern... more than 700kbps is acceptable whistling.gif
if dont complain... of course la they wont upgrade it urgently~

like in TNB.. ada orang compain no electricity then only we know there is a breakdown some where~ whistling.gif whistling.gif

At last i found this topic!!!

er..im trapped in this situation.

i got myself the 5 months contract, free 3G modem package from maxis last month. paid rm150 for everything for the contract and got my modem with the simcard. from my own understanding, it is unlimited 3G for me, but once it reaches 1.5GB quota, i suffer the speed loss.i dun mind.

however, it's 1 month then, and i received this invoice to my fixed address, so i check online again..same statement.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

my question is:
1) i tot it is a 1 time hassle package, where rm150 for 5months is the contract..how come still got unpaid value there?
2) isn't it unlimited usage till 1.5GB or FOC surfing with speed loss then?
3) anyone can explain to me how i elaborate this statement? hmm.gif

just one question...
on this bill you need to pay RM16.20 only rite?
if yes... proceed with my following answer

1) the 1st invoice came out is ur monthly-rebate + modem 150.. so your total 166.20 and you have paid 150. you only need to pay 16.20
2) unlimited means.. usage after your quota will not be charge as pay per use. but you are throttled after the allocated quota
3) refer to 1)

3) anyone can explain to me how i elaborate this statement? hmm.gif
*
as far as i know from the statement, the amount that you have to pay is the total charges minus rm150... because as you can see from the statement, the value of your payment stated there is RM -150..meaning you have paid the amount before the statement came out...thus, you don't have to pay for the "other charges and credit"... anyone please correct me if i'm wrong.. notworthy.gif the amount you have to pay is only rm16.20...

i got confused now..shud'nt it be rm150 package, which i get my rebate rm28 per month every month?consider it deducts from my account of rm150, coz its a 5 month contract, where the rm150 acts like a prepaid coupon to deduct rm48 every month.

howcome my rm28*5 + free modem (limited promo) package still need me to pay extra? i tot the whole thing is unlimited surfing but with 1.5GB of 3G speed and fair use policy after 1.5GB? Is it about within 1.5GB = free; after 1.5GB + fair usage policy = charge me accordingly?

Let say i paid rm16.20 this time, then howabout my next month? still with the rm150 package? or i need pay more already?no more playing with prepaid deductions?

argh!! what the hell is this?? unlimited but with hidden terms????

umobile download speed is very fast but upload speed is only 50kbs (more or less).
the coverage area also limited.
i often travel around (to johor, penang, kuantan, ...etc)
say in the middle of the highway somewhere near Tangkak or near Taiping (tempat rehat RR) want to check email.....you can do that with Maxis, Celcom or Digi but umobile broadband's coverage not yet there.
*
yeah agree, today i just terminated u mobile account coz of limited coverage. Bcoz i always travelling today i just signup maxis 1.5GB. In my living in teluk gadong, klang maxis got Hspda but this is maxis speed

clear up ur mind....

RM150 = upfront fee = RM30*5month deduction
and the maxis bill is like an accountants book... eveything must be there

in their accountants view...
in the bill... RM150 = modem price then will be minus back by your RM150 that u pay when u register so... = RM0
every month u get rebate RM 30 in the 1st 5month... = RM150

note : the reason ur deduction this month RM27 because its a pro rate bill... u use not exactly 1month till the billing date

so next month?
your bill will be like this

1.5GB package RM48
rebate -RM30
total need to pay = RM18

i think i got the direction already.

refering back to my statement above:

rm150 <--ignore it as it is just part of their process of statement.
rm27 <--this should be the deduction of the rebate, which should eventually be rm30, but because the usage is not until 1 month long, so based of days of usage, they recalculate the loss of the deduction through percentage, which is rm27.which means i underutilized rm3 which is actually 3 days?
rm16.20 <--eventually this is a standing amount which i should pay for the previous month. but the full amount should be rm18. as rm30+18 = 48 (which is my package value). but then it only cost me rm16.20 because similar to the case above, i underutilized 3 days, so through percentage, they deduct from rm18 into rm16.20.

am i right?

so it aint fully prepaid style? means i did received unlimited usage, even after 1.5GB, they won't charge me a cent, but as a drill, rm30(upfront fee deduction, so called the rebate) + rm18 (standing amount per month, this is what i should pay everymonth for this package? which it make rm48 per month.

We should write to maxis if we want them to do something or upgrade the bandwidth, that might be much more efficiently than complaining here. I gonna write them a letter soon regarding about the same issue.

a maxisbroadband technical staff once told me.. the Ec/Io reading is the most important.. anything better than -10dBm the error rate is good enough to get stable speed..

i'll try to do an outdoor speedtest 1st to is there any diff.. between full with antenna or fullbar without antenna whistling.gif

yup... only see diff when u r at places with very weak signal (0 or 1 bar).. after cucuk antenna can get 4-5bar signal n lesser data loss.. more stable download speed..

it doesnt make it fast. it makes it stable

389rm only and it has connector for external antenna to gain higher signal. But eventhough without antenna it already gain high signal. I no longer use my USB modem or Iphone/N900 as a modem. Instead I can surf through my laptop, Iphone and N900 at the same time using that reuter from my unlimited maxis broadband simcard.

The B932 is a WiFi 3G modem? It runs on its own battery? If yes then should be fun, just one 3G broadband to power all device, no need to switch sim card and all.
