Lowyat.Net Unofficial FAQ
1. Can I upgrade from my existing streamyx?
According to official TM response, it is possible to upgrade smoothly as long as the applicant is eligible. However as our experiences tell, it is not always possible.
Situation 1: The streamyx belongs to an eligible student's name. Smooth upgrade is possible. No termination, no quarantine, no downtime. Conclusion: GOOD
Situation 2: The streamyx belongs to dad/mom/bro/sis/whoever who is not eligible. Upgrade may NOT possible.

2. What should I do if I fall into "Situation 2"?
Solution 1: Terminate both homeline and streamyx. Reapply both again using an eligible student's name. You will lose your existing phone number but negligible downtime.
Solution 2: Terminate only streamyx and wait for 30 days quarantine. Then, reapply. Estimated downtime: 1-2 month. Existing phone number unchanged.
Solution 3: Subscribe for another set of homeline and streamyx. You will then have 2 homeline.

3. What if the existing streamyx has remaining contract months with TM?
If you fall into "Situation 2", you will have to pay the penalty (remaining subscription fees) to terminate, before you can resubscribe Cool Uni Pack. Your only possible option is to subscribe for an additional set of homeline and streamyx.

4. Does it matter if the existing homeline does not belong to the eligible student?
Not a problem. If the homeline isn't yours, you need to provide photocopied IC and signature of the homeline owner on the application form.

5. Does early subscriber enjoy RM12 reduction of subscription fee?
All subscriber enjoy the new rate from 1st April 2010.

6. What is the Netbook model?
HP Mini 210-1073TU worth of RM1100 (MSRP)

7. What is the Netbook quota?
According to Bernama news, there are 100 000 netbook to be given away

8. When will this package end?
No one will know. First come first serve basis.

9. Are the mentioned subscription fee inclusive of monthly rental?
Yes

1. What is Streamyx Cool Uni Pack™?
Streamyx Cool Uni Pack™ provides UNLIMITED Streamyx Broadband together with a Netbook, FREE WiFi Modem, Netbook delivery, songs download @ Hypptunes and also Streamyx Zone ID with 0 entry cost!
2. Who is eligible to subscribe to Streamyx Cool Uni Pack™?
The package is only eligible to 1st or 2nd year IPTA/IPTS with endorsement from the respective universities.
3. What is the basic requirement for me to subscribe the package?
You must have a TM Homeline or TM Home Prepaid before subscribing to this package.
4. Can I apply for this package if the TM Homeline is not under my name?
Yes, you may to apply for this package. However, the owner of the TM Homeline has to give authorisation for you to use the line for the Streamyx installation.
5. Is there any special offers on new TM Homeline application with this package?
Yes, you can enjoy the FREE installation fee worth RM50. A deposit of RM75 will be chargeable in your bill. You will also need to pay for the internal wiring during the installation of TM Homeline which will be paid by the student direct to the installer.
6. How do I subscribe to this package?
To subcribe, you just need to visit any TMpoint or TM Consumer Sales.
7. How long is the delivery period for this package?
For TM Homeline that is already activated, it will take approximately 7 days to install & activate Streamyx. Upon successful activation of Streamyx, the Netbook will be delivered to you within 14 working days.
8. Will I be entitled for any discount on the package since the Netbook is only delivered within 14 working days after
activation of Streamyx?
You will get 50% discount on the 1st month subscription fee.
9. Can the Netbook be delivered to a different place?
For security reasons, the Netbook will only be delivered to the Streamyx installation address. If customer is not contactable for Netbook delivery within 1 month after Streamyx installation, then TM has the right to terminate the Streamyx service or change to other Streamyx package.
10. How will I be charged for this package?
The monthly subscription fee of this package will be charged to you via 'Bil Telefon & Multimedia' issued by TM.
11. Is there any minimum contract period applicable for this package?
The minimum subscription period of 2 years upon successful activation of Streamyx is applicable for this package. For any premature termination, an administrative fee of RM600 will be chargeable.
12. What happen if the ADSL port is not available for the TM Homeline number?
For any unsuccessful application of this package, you are allowed to nominate another TM Homeline or TM Home Prepaid line by filling up new application form.
13. Who will get the FREE Streamyx Zone ID in this package?
The student who has successfully subscribed to this package will be given a FREE Streamyx Zone ID which can
be used at all Streamyx Zone locations.
14. What happens if the Netbook is stolen or missing within the warranty period?
The Netbook will not be replaced as the warranty only covers the maintenance of the Netbook. However, you will still be charged the monthly subscription fees.

Terms & Condition

* For IPTA/IPTS students preferably 1st or 2nd year.
* Minimum subscription period of 24 months. Customer are not allowed to terminate during the contract period .
* Netbook warranty will be 2 years.
* Student are not allowed to make last minute changes on the delivery and installation address.
* This promotion is open for Malaysian student only.
* Netbook will be delivered upon successful of Streamyx activation.
* Installation and Delivery address must be same.
* TM will issue a monthly bill upon successful of service activation.
* Netbook vendor will responsible for any defects of the netbook during warranty period
* Delivery of netbook requires approximately 14 working days from date of successful registration.
* If netbook lost within subscription period , payment still needed until end of subscription period.
* After 24 months , student still enjoy monthly fee of RM50 according to their packages.
* This special packages valid for SUCCESSFUL Streamyx installation and activation ONLY. Thus, TM Homeline subscription before the said event is treated separately and subject to TM Homeline Terms & Conditions.
* Customer will be provided FREE wireless modem with 12 months warranty from the date of installation.
* If customer is not contactable or unreachable within 1 month after Streamyx installation , then TM has the right to terminate the Streamyx service or change to other Streamyx package.
* For the 1st month, student will get 50% off from the subscription fee.
* Online registration is not applicable.
* Administrative fee of RM600 will be charged if student terminate within the subscription period.
* Connection fee of RM50 for new TM Homeline will be excluded.
* Deposit fee of RM75 will be charged for TM Homeline.
* Internal Wiring for TM Homeline is chargeable (RM30- RM50).
* Subject to Streamyx service standard Terms & Conditions.

Nice one for students, really cheap stuff.

By the way, I've just found a potential loophole, subscribe to it for about 1 month, cut off the line, and if my maths is correct:

1st month Bill: RM25
potong charge : RM600
deposit : RM75
Wiring Charge : RM30

If i didn't misread anything, that means a netbook for RM730 - RM750.
Too Bad I'm 3rd year next semester.

Wow! If this is applicable, then it is great! Hope Tmnet employees didn't surf Lowyat forum. BTW, it didn't mention which brand of netbook it is providing to the students.

Its the same as lets say, you bought a notebook in Lowyat with an installment plan for 12 months, let say before you habis bayar, on month number 2, you notebook got stolen, installment plan still need to pay.

So if I lose my netbook, I just need to potong without admitting the fact, to get free of paying the subscription fees until the end, just like the potong trick you said. Don't you think that rules are really unnecessary???

Ahh, now that I've read that, it appears this is like the old, buy HP PC get 1Mb line promotion.

Which in that case, was RM99 per month, for some HP desktop, and 1Mb line, pretty much the same. Plus, these packages doesn't come with line rental, which is about, IIRC Rm25 per month. So whatever price they advertised, you have to sum up the line rental.

So, it's pretty much nothing new from TM. Old package, new PC, that's about it.

If you fulfill the contract to 24months, for a 1Mbps line, the netbook should cost you (RM25 phone rental + Rm11 difference RM88 package) x 24 = RM888. Cheaper from market price nonetheless.

Guys,why dont just apply student package?
contract 1 year, 1mbps only for RM100 and 512kbs for RM50....
even 512kbps is better than 384Kbs...LOL....

Although cant get the netbook..mayb 2 years more the netbook only cost few hundred bucks only and need not to STICK with the contract! Am i right?LOL...

I've talked to someone from TM Point and did some research on my own.

There's no phone rental charge for this package as this is a Streamyx Combo package. It's strictly RM50/mth for 2 years and you get a wifi modem and HP Mini 210.

This package is in line with Najib's Budget 2010 announcement. It uses government's funding to help the poor and to increase our broadband penetration.

How can it not be a good package then?

It's the best broadband package in the market now. I'm getting my sister to sign up for it asap.

the gradpack which offer to student is also RM50, in other words this netbook you get it for free. What you expect from TM ?

If they provide a bad netbook, maybe you can complaint TM to offer such a bad netbook

Everyone wants to get this package BUT are you able to certify RM3000 or below income?

how come i dont see from the list any public university like UM, UTM and many more... did i missed it...???

this is government project and should be open to all student not just year 1 and 2....

i think 3 and 4 year also want to apply....for me its a good bargain but sadly, already in third year....

I went to another TM point. I have difficulties because the phone line and streamyx is under my father's account. I will have to terminate the streamyx, wait cool down period of 1 month, then reapply Cool Uni pack.

I wasn't in favour of this method, and I insisted that they have to give me a better solution. 1 hour after some negotiation, they were able to assist me terminate existing streamyx without quarantine period, and then reapply Cool Uni pack again. The max downtime suggested was just about 2 weeks, which I can definitely survive on my mobile 3G connection.

Well, my friend was not required to include his parents' income and he was successful in applying for this package. His uni is not on the list either.

The T&C for the Cool Uni Pack has been very poorly laid out, in my opinion.

Anyone has the specific model number of the offered HP mini 210?

There are different variants of HP Mini 210 in terms of:
- screen resolution
- bluetooth
- wifi b/g or n
- 3 cell or 6 cell battery
- colour

just what few post back someone said that if we got the HPmini already for 1 month & terminate the second month we get the HPmini for RM655 is that possible? anybody tried that? will they blacklist your name?

Cool down period is applicable if your existing streamyx is not under your name. So it has to terminate the old account. If the existing account has remaining contract, there is no way to do it. You can rewire another new telephone line though.

hey i wanna ask, an agent just approached me now at my doorstep asking me whether i wanna upgrade my streamyx or not but im still using the Grad Package (student package) and it cost me RM100 (1 Mpbs) per month. I have been using for 2 months now since i subscribed on last year on December 2009 and the freebies they're providing now are similar to mine just that this new is giving a netbook. They gave me a brochure about the package. The package state that the accumulated amount payment is RM110 for 1 Mbps which means another extra RM10 for a netbook is not a bad deal. The package im subscribing now gave me an Man U Shirt but nevertheless i was thinking of upgrading to 2 Mpbs for RM130 but total would be RM140. However i was thinking is it possible to terminate my current student package then apply for a new 1 since im paying RM100 for every month also and im having Streamyx Zone ID as well as Hypp free downloads, i might as well terminate and apply a new one? Or would there be a penalty of extra charges?

Besides that, i wanna know whether it only applies to Year 1 and Year 2 students of IPTA/IPTS, does it mean Degree Year 1 or Year 2, or Pre-U is also considered Year 1 too?

if the account under your name and u are the student going to apply for this package. U dont have to terminate your existing acc.

abount 10 days frm the day i submit my form...
5days to get my streamyx activated, another 5days for the netbook to deliver.
can be shorter i guess, bcoz i have wasted 3 days to wait for nothings, they forget to key in my application when i submit until i remind them.

That is quick. I've waited for about 10 days (including weekends) but not a single news about the netbook or the modem.

i subscribed on last wed,probably will get it after cny.

It has been 2 weeks since I applied. Went back to TMPoint today. Checked and they say no record of application, only termination. They gave me option:

1. New TM homeline, new Streamyx (faster)
2. Continue waiting...

haiz , my case even more complicated ~

old line register under my bro's name, because i can't live through the waiting period of 1 month without internet , so aiming to open a new line.

however, during my application , they say the phone line around my area being full !!!! now after 1 week, still waiting for response frm TM. cry....

ok, my case is like this...
im staying with my GF and the streamyx combo 60 is under her name. now i have the optional way?? either i upgrade the package to UNI, but the name still under her, can or not? Coz her company is paying our streamyx RM60 per month, or i register a new phone line?
we cant change the homeline owner name due to my gf company policy....
so what is the faster and best way to obtain this cool package?
