Anyone tried applying any of the Hong Leong CC using their online application? If yes, is the online application status (to check) really works e.g. it will display 'pre-approved', 'unsuccessful' or 'successful' after number of days of applying and documents submission?
Just wondering as I'm planning to use the online application by HLB for a gold card. I know I can do a walk-in application but if online application works, it'll be great to hear any experience. TIA!

Edit to add: Never mind. I just tried their service to apply a CC using online application. And found the answer which says "approved-in-principle". Now.. the waiting stage whether it'll be approve or not biggrin.gif

Guys, i am about to buy a new SONY VAIO CW26 series laptop and i have a question about the 0% installment scheme offered by some banks. The computer shop i went to told me that they do not impose any additional charges for payment by credit card. I was also told that if i have credit card from either Maybank, HSBC or Public Bank, i am entitled for the 0% installment scheme.

The laptop i plan to buy is priced at RM3,999 and if divided by 12-month (interest free), it means i'll have to pay RM333.25/month. But how come the SONY magazine and even Best Denki quoted that i'll have to pay RM334/month instead ? If i have to pay RM334/month as advertised in SONY magazine and Best Denki's flyer, the total sum is RM4,008 instead of RM3,999, which is RM9 more. How can that be called 0% interest then ?

For certain banks ... yes. Some even managed to get the annual fee waived without using the cards at all in the last one year. This was mentioned in the earlier versions of credit card thread.

Yes. SONY STYLE has 0% installment plan with selected banks but as you can see in their quarterly magazine, it stated there that the monthly repayment is RM334 instead of RM333.25. There are also many other computer shops now offer 0% installment plan.

By the way guys, one good news is that even all those small computer shops in Kota Kinabalu no longer impose any additional charges for computer purchases using credit card thumbup.gif So when the price tag is RM3,999, only RM3,999 will be charged to your card and you will still be entitled for all the freebies they are giving out rclxms.gif

As for my case, 2 to 3 calls from the HLBB will introduce themselves before asking particulars from me to verify the application.

haha, sorry bringing this up after 2 pages, but yeah, they introduced themselves. everything seems fine for now. thanks biggrin.gif

RM334 in the brochure is rounded up figure...
rest assure if you add all your 12-month installments, you will get RM3,999.
It will be written clearly on the credit card slip you sign on.

Just curious, i applied for a cimb gold (petronas) credit card near the end of last week. Today, I got a phone call from a 'blocked' (anonymous) number asking for mother's maiden name and my latest cimb savings account transaction supposedly to confirm my particulars. Is this typical for them to ask it even though the card haven't been issued yet?
*
I thought I read something like this in the newspaper. Some guy got a call which requested his mother's maiden name. He gave it, and in the end the name was used to activate his credit card which has fallen into the caller's hands.

Yours might be a genuine case, of course.

The credit card charges for RM 3,999 is almost RM 100, and i dun think the shop will absorb the charges. However, it will be shouldered by the customers and then marketing as NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES! doh.gif

see HLB website here

You can receive a minimum of 0.2% cash return on all your monthly purchases. Depending on your outstanding balance for the month, HLBwill give you an incentive of different cash rebate rates. So, I think basically u need to have an outstanding rm50,000 of credit card debt before u can enjoy the 2%... but doesn't that mean u need to pay a late payment charge of rm50 + interest too... if so, doesn't worth it lor...

There is still no late payment charge as long as credit card holder make payment on time (doesn't matter his card carrying huge outstanding balance).
But huge outstanding balance will incur a lot of interest.

No. It's been confirmed multiple times that if the computer selling price is RM3,999, then only RM3,999 will be charged to the card even if the customer is going to pay by credit card. There is also no sign saying that there will be no additional charges if one were to pay by credit card. I actually asked all to all the employees all the shops i went to and all confirmed no extra % will be charged.

Just a few months ago, the shops here only stopped imposing extra charge on certain items if one were to pay using a credit card such as ink toner, anti-virus software etc. I am glad to learn that now all the extra charge has been removed for all items thumbup.gif

Sorry came in late.

Here's how the installment system works.
The merchant need to key in the item value which is RM3,999 and the terminal will ask whether the merchant wish to have it on 12 months installment. If yes, the system will divide the payment equally. Nothing to be worried about actually so long the merchant key in RM3,999 and not RM4,008 as the value.

If I'm not mistaken ... all this info will be reflected in your cc slip that you sign. Check that out as well.
Yes ... likely the brochure uses a rounded up figure.
