Credit Card v9, RM50 GST dilemma

Just curious, i applied for a cimb gold (petronas) credit card near the end of last week. Today, I got a phone call from a 'blocked' (anonymous) number asking for mother's maiden name and my latest cimb savings account transaction supposedly to confirm my particulars. Is this typical for them to ask it even though the card haven't been issued yet?
