if astro is going to broadcast in 1080i instead of 720p, then all the more reason for me to skip it although i still hate to see the aspect-ratio distortion (fat and short people like me).
no distortion, all mentioned in same ratio 16:9 (the TV, the 720p and 1080i)

what i mean to say, ar188, is that since i will still stick to the non-hd astro, i will still see the stinking distorted 4:3 playing on my 16:9 plasma tv.

I thougt the PV80 shd have a "Just" mode that does the stretching quite well to fit the screen. As long as you do not select the Full Mode u shd be fine.

anfield,
this 'just' mode helps a little but the peope remain short and fat, definitely not the correct aspect ratio. it's only when i set it to 4:3 that i get the correct a-r with the 2 empty blue/grey bars on the sides.

you can always keep it in 4:3 mode on your plasma (just ignore the black bars on the left/right side and if able to try not to worry about IR biggrin.gif ), it looks really good.. try it and see.. reminds me of watching astro on 34inch 4:3 CRT 100HZ TV...

same here oso,
i dont mind watching the 4:3 in 16:9 in wide zoom, really get a full 16:9 50" feel, but my HM prefer 4:3 mad.gif

huhuhu, this proves that some people here don't know sh1t and just trying to act pro. Finger point to ecam. 720p is always better than 1080i. That's the fact.

i called astro this morning around 10.45am to ask if i can change my philip decoder to thompson with component output... then dat lady mentioned astro b-yond just launch... here the details i got from her...

theres 3 options if want to convert to astro b-yond...

1) astro take back all the old decoder components (decoder, dish, remote control, card) and replace with the new astro b-yond and its cabling for free.
2) we can keep the old decoder and register for the new astro b-yond with rm80 payment... this option will allow us to use astro b-yond and also the old decoder to view astro... meaning we have 2 cards...
3) we can keep the old decoder for sentimental value and get the new astro b-yond for rm80... but we need to give back the astro card...

* the new astro b-yond card cannot work with the old decoder...
* the old decoder cannot work with the new astro b-yond dish...
* theres one year contract if we accept the astro b-yond... need to subscribe to at least one of the HD channel...

Astro SuperSport HD
National Geographic Channel HD
History HD
HBO HD

Is it? you'll be surprised in future. whistling.gif

I read in this thread it says:

2. What is Astro B.yond?
Astro B.yond is the future of entertainment. It is a brand new offering in television broadcast
which offers the first ever High-Definition broadcast in Malaysia. For a start, five exclusive high
definition channels will be introduced at the time of launch, with more to come in the future.
With Astro B.yond, employees will be able to enjoy true high definition details such as with
superior resolution, sound and clarity. Astro B.yond will have future interactive features like
Personal Video Recording (PVR), new Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) and internet
connectivity.

Very true. However, not all have good deinterlacers.

One good example would be the Panny X and S series. They do not handle interlaced signals well....And most people in Malaysia have these sets and will complain when they get the Astro HD saying that the image is not as sharp as the expected....
*
Waahhh.. i'm so excited to finally be able to watch sports in HD.. hehe.. biggrin.gif anyway, mr anfieldude, about the interlaced signal thingy, do u know how my system will perform, good/normal/poor? i'm using samsung series 5, 37" full hd set. thanks dude! thumbup.gif
