You still need HDMI splitter. Don't think the Astro decoder has 2 HDMI output.

QUOTE(MyDevil @ Dec 10 2009, 05:18 PM) Yeah seems to be the case. Either way, looks like more drilling and wiring casing. Just found out the price of a wireless HDMI extender and it's 800 USD |

QUOTE(neb @ Dec 10 2009, 05:23 PM) it is a package deal, HD decoder + bigger dish + better quality rg6 coaxial cable Thanks for the info. I guess I will continue using my old cable as I dont want to pay extra money to hack my wall to put the new cable in I think you can still use the old RG6 cable if the cable condition is still good |

QUOTE(kobe24bryant @ Dec 10 2009, 04:46 PM) But still, with the new decoder, Astro will have to change my wiring and.....where to find few hundred feet of HDMI cable? I refuse to pay for a second decoder even if it is 50 percent off. dont think need to change cables ( astro using 75ohms same as coaxial ady), even RTM does their HD broadcast test using existing aerial, and RF cablesQUOTE(MyDevil @ Dec 10 2009, 05:18 PM) i really think serve no purpose having 2HDMI outs,If no HDMI receiver also cant do anything think no one will hook one to TV and the other to AVR if your receiver have HDMI input, means you can bypass your astro HDMI thru existing AVR enven if the AVR is "switched OFF" |

QUOTE(Lord_Ashe @ Dec 10 2009, 05:03 PM) so people in condos who share a single dish are screwed eh. u sure the entire condo block shares one dish? i remember last time when the Astro installer came & installed my 2nd decoder (current 2storey house) he told me one dish is good for up to 6 decoder nia..not sure if its different for condo/apartment application..Oh well, looks like I'll need to get my HD fix from other sources. one question if anyone knows, the new HD dish, can still receive SD broadcast right? i mean even if change the dish, change to the new HD set up top box, i still can receive current SD channels...not necessary to subs to HD channels right?? or another scenario, change the dish, but maintained old decoder, can still receive current SD broadcast? reason am i asking is if that's the case, at least i can propose to the management to replace the dish at my apartment & it wont cause any disruption to others not keen on migrating to HD....or if there's a few dish on the roof, they can identify which is mine and can change that particular one only (quite unlikely but one never knows) yes, i'm really quite excited over this whole Astro HD thingy...been waiting for it so long and it sucks that i live in apartment and have no direct control over the Astro dish....hopefully some kinda solution will be announce by Astro tomorrow too for all condo/apartment subscribers.. |

The Edge's view on astro going HD from financial angle, the bottom line is that astro is targeting RM80 revenue per subscriber

first, maxis relisted on BSKL...they got billions of cash...
then, Astro plans to sells off 580m worth of shares in India... i wonder if something wrong with AK? the news report emphasis on Astro 'accelerated' introduction of HD content..means they may not be ready for it?? or means they weren't suppose to launch it so soon?? another concern, the bloody decoder so expensive mehh?? needs subsidy of RM500 per unit?? means ori price is much much higher?? geeshhh....but looking at it long term, they will surely make their monies back from Astro subs... is there like a contract period for signing up Astro package? if like maxis, 2years contract for iphone, they make few iphones worth of profit per customer in return in 2 years.. |

About half of it.QUOTE(simon82 @ Dec 9 2009, 03:51 PM) Mayb not here... but in US.. Yo bro, on demand lah. not real time. you connect ur record box to internet or leave it on standby for it to download the video. 1 1080p channel in real time will require about 24 to 28Mbps bandwidth. So 1 transponder can only have 1 or 2 channel and if 1 satellite have 10 transponder, u can only get 10 or 20 channel. 1 transponder is about 48Mbps rate.http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:URN1q...lient=firefox-a "1080p: The Ultimate HD Experience As the leader in HD, DIRECTV now brings you the latest in HD technology: 1080p. The same HD format as Blu-ray Discs, 1080p delivers a picture that's even sharper and smoother than 1080i, especially for movies. The hottest titles are now available in 1080p on DIRECTV on DEMAND. Have a bad feeling cables needs to be changed too...anyways guess we'll find out tomorrow or at least can start sending astro questions after tomorrow |
