so are we getting dvb-s2 decoder? hopefully we can use it to receive free-to-air HD channels

Astro will hv to compete wit TM IPTV early next yr...which is good to us, as Astro already teamed up with Maxis to provide data services, which i assume it will intergrate in part of Astro offerring later on.

One word to add to the 1080i vs 720p debate.

If u have a good deinterlacer 1080i can produce a stunning picture as well. Deinterlacing 1080i is not as easy as it seems. Given a good deinterlacing chip (ie, ABT2010, HQV Reon) you would be hard pressed to tell which is better. Where it is normally seen as better for 720p broadcasts would be for fast moving sports. For movies, if your display has a good deinterlacing chip, u shd be good to go. Or of course if u have a AVR or external scaler/deinterlacer (Lumagen, Crystalio, DVDO) it would yield very good results.

The main problem with all HD broadcasts are bit rate compression. That is what you guys/gal shd worry abt. Astro is notorious for that....

Maybe just launch for registration only.

National Geographic Channel HD
History HD
HBO HD

while ESPN HD will be on air January 2010.

We'll also be the only one to broadcast all World Cup 2010 matches next year!

As one of the 'loyal' and 'pioneer' subscribers, Astro should give a 'no extra fee' on HD as credit to their support and loyalty.

Please tell me if it is fair as following:

1) Existing Astro subscriber (One month ago) - Free upgrade to Astro B.yond and RM 20 per months (12 months contract)

2) Existing Astro subscriber (Three years ago) - Free upgrade to Astro B.yond and RM 20 per months (12 months contract)

3) Existing Astro subscriber (Five years ago) - Free upgrade to Astro B.yond and RM 20 per months (12 months contract)

Please put some serious thought on the above.

i don think we can get better quality of IPTV from TMNut,
nowadays we even cant get a satisfy speed from them for normal download..

is it we can watch all programme on HBO HD,
or only for the selected HD movies,
the rest we have to turn back to HBO SD channel?

and i wonder,
RM20 is for all HD channels,
or the price will increase if Astro provide more HD channels in the future?

Astro b.yond is limited channel only. So i will wait until more channel open up on that HD then is worth it.

You can use the AV to RF converter which normally you can find at electronic stores. Astro Byond decoder still got the good old AV output.

Buy slingbox.
Don't need to change the cablelah. I test with my old dish and cable and it still works. No problemo.
Component can support high res (up till 1080i if I'm not mistaken) but astro box will output 576i only so better use HDMI to component and you get the about the same as HD.

Congrat. Now u know what I see. So anybody who still decide whether want to subscribe or not, subscribe fast or you'll be in a vely vely long waiting list.

Its not easy woo to change all the cable and splitter. U'll need a new switch to split all the signal. The higher the building and the more unit in it the longer it take for upgrade. You are lucky if they manage to install it in 18 month.

Start the petition, get all owner to sign and give it to management. Don't forget petition Astro too to upgrade ur building first.

Just call them only la, fill form wasting time! 

I just received call today, they will start charging the RM20 from April 2010 onwards.

Installation will be done within 10 days from today

I asked the customer service rep who called me about the Astro B.yond. If you keep the sd decoder, you cannot use it as your current account will be upgraded to Astro B.yond account and will be registered to the new Astro B.yond Smart Card, thus you cannot use your old decoder and Smart Card unless I guess you register for a new account.

yesterday astro called me up to confirm whether i want to upgrade to HD decorder,
and i have got the call by today,
it is quite fast...

maybe have too many subscribers want to upgrade,
so have to wait?

I still havent received my 2nd call, last they called me on Sunday 13/12/2009. And i'll supposed to get a call back on 15/12/2009 for installation and T&C. Are they able to track if i check with their customer service. Anyone have similiar experience.
