Very true. However, not all have good deinterlacers.

One good example would be the Panny X and S series. They do not handle interlaced signals well....And most people in Malaysia have these sets and will complain when they get the Astro HD saying that the image is not as sharp as the expected....

Waahhh.. i'm so excited to finally be able to watch sports in HD.. hehe.. biggrin.gif anyway, mr anfieldude, about the interlaced signal thingy, do u know how my system will perform, good/normal/poor? i'm using samsung series 5, 37" full hd set. thanks dude! thumbup.gif

Just got my b.yond this afternoon at around 1:30pm. Apply last tuesday, got a call from astro on wednesday, got a call from installer on friday ask me whether i will be at home on saturday which sadly I wasn't, sunday and monday as well. So they came today. which is good rclxms.gif

Anyway, when i set to dolby digital 5.1, no sound at all on HD channels, anybody know why? is it because of the audio cable? I thought with HDMI, it supposed to support both video & audio? ( i got pioneer home theather system, also connected with HDMI and it support audio + video ), so what's actually i've done wrong?

what did you hook your HDMI cable to?
avr?tv?
*
HDMI from astro box to lcd tv (HDMI 3),
HDMI from pioneer system to lcd tv (HDMI 1)

now i just noticed there's normal audio cable (red&white) from the pioneer to astro box. when unplugged, no sound at all. what should i do to get 5.1 sound from astro HD channels? thanks!

if your pioneer system accepts HDMI INPUT, plug the astro HDMI into the pioneer unit.
then take the pioneer OUTPUT HDMI cable, and plug that into the tv.

if your pioneer does NOT accept HDMI INPUT, then you cant use HDMI.

look behind your pioneer unit, see if there's a coaxial digital input port.

if there is, you'll have to go out and buy a coaxial cable and plug one end of that cable into the astro decoder and the other end into your pioneer.

ps.what do you mean by HDMI 1 & 3?
1 & 3 HDMI cables?
or you plugged the cables into HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 (eg: AV1 & AV2)?
*
No luck. my pioneery doesnt support HDMI input. just one for output only. and no coaxial digital input port as well. looks like i'm stuck with stereo sound for astro HD. doh.gif

btw, HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 is like AV1 n AV3, yes.

Btw, just to mention, the installer that came to install my byond, he doesn't even know there are dedicated channels for HD!! it shocked me when he show me the 811 channel and say it's HD! i picked up the remote and press 831, then he looked surprised and even marvel at the details of the HD display.. then he asked me what the other 4 channels and wrote it on a piece of paper.. sigh

since you already have a HDTV, personally i would recommend you upgrade to a stand alone AVR.
around RM1.8k depending on model.

you already have the speakers,so for now you can use those.
just get the AVR to connect the astro/speakers to one another and you're all set icon_rolleyes.gif

the reason why i recommend you to buy a AVR straight away, is because at the end of the day if you were to buy a new home theater in a box, your current speakers will go to waste sweat.gif

thanks dude! will go and survey for a new AVR soon! biggrin.gif
