it have not one but two dvb-s2 tuner, and optinal dvb-t and dvb-c tuner car can be install also. and the best part is this is also a pvr and got internal hard disk and even dvd drive. and running linux which give you a few firmware to choose from.

the problem is the output is DVI to HDMI which mean audio need to use S/PDIF, and also it cost $1300+ USD

i may have broke the law just by taking about this kind of hardware. tongue.gif

But still, with the new decoder, Astro will have to change my wiring and.....where to find few hundred feet of HDMI cable? I refuse to pay for a second decoder even if it is 50 percent off.
*
why do you need several hundred feet of hdmi cable? your decoder so far away from tv??

got this reply on the FB page

AstroHello Adrian, we'll give you a new HD capable dish, decoder, and smartcard called B.yond in exchange for your old box for an additional RM 20 HD service fee per month. On other words, we'll change your entire setup for you.

you have to understand one thing, yes tmnut introduces IPTV... but what will be the contents/channels that they could offer? So many channels were taken by astro as exclusive broadcast rights in Malaysia. If they offer similar channel line up like MiTV....then its as good as bye bye...

HSBB wise... i wonder how fast and where is it available...if they are using HSBB to broadcast IPTV, their potential customers will be limited by the available service area, which is quite limited for now.

if TM cannot get some popular sport live broadcast and quality movie and tv channel they can close shop in a few month. the sport broadcast are more tricky where as movie and tv programming can be done by the station themself even they cannot get HBO or AXN

recording hdtv with those? its as good as breaking it lol... if you want to record hdtv without DRM embedded, your current best bet is Hauppauge HD PVR.... though of course it isnt digitally saving the stream, but resampling the video...kinda wasted....  better work on how to extract out the DRM protected video files from recorded hdds
*
better just go to torrent site to find the episode unless it is local content.

yeah lol, most likely will be resampling to higher resolution lol... but its kinda wasting bandwidth if they really do so, black and white, lots of dots/noise/snow around the video.... doh.gif
*
there is a lot of noise but all the video are in colour and many never been show on tv before. this is the best quality that those video will be seen in.
