I was informed by the Maybank Service Centre in 1-Utama that for Maybank credit cards (including Amex),  the RM50 service tax will only be charged upon the renewal month of the credit card.

Anyone can confirm this? If yes, then I probably don't have to cancel my cards so fast.

..my Petronas card renewal is Feb.. i guest will be paying my first cc service tax in Feb 2010.. kinda reluctant to cancel though have no commitment to it and seldom use anymore since got Amex cc

hopefully tiger bank would allow service tax payment by off setting treatpoints..5K tp, can ahh.. tiger?

(Actually I'm rather amused that they mentioned that have no problems with credit card cancellations. In fact they are very optimistic with customer base growth for next year)

EON Bank targets 750,000 credit cards next year

KUALA LUMPUR: EON Bank Bhd expects to have 750,000 credit cards in circulation next year against 660,000 cards issued in 2009.

The Group's Chief Executive Officer, Micheal Lor, said the company is now planning more promotions and campaigns to make the target a reality.

"With our best selling GSC-EON Bank Visa Card still growing in terms of circulation, we don't think reaching the target will be a problem," he said.

Speaking to reporters after a prize presentation ceremony for a movie premiere contest, he said there were now 23,000 GSC-EON Bank Visa Cards in circulation since its launch in May.

On a related development, Lor said the bank's credit card business only suffered a slight setback after the government announced that a RM50 service tax would be imposed on each credit card in circulation, next year.

"The most significant impact we experienced since the announcement was a 50 per cent drop in credit card application.

"But, I am sure the announcement impacted all banks offering this service but from my point of view, the RM50 service tax should not pose a threat to consumers as they spend thousands of ringgit every month," Lor added.

He was confident the bank's credit card business would not slow down, despite the service tax, as its cards were value-added products.

Meanwhile, Lor said credit card receivables rose to RM1.4 billion this year and was expected to increase between an average of 10 and 15 per cent in 2010.

EON Bank plans to launch another credit card, next year, for discerning shoppers. - Bernama

DA is very "efficient"... I cancelled my cards at Penang branch 3 weeks ago... yesterday called helpline... need to wait for 5-10 minutes... then they tell me my card is still active. Then I question why so long still have not cancel. Then they tell me I can actually cancel DA by calling in. They will block and then close the card account.

I'll call back again in few days to check the status...

DA has good CS because you can still speak to a real person. I tried to call Alliance 4 times today, got put on hold and then disconnect automatically. I gave up.

Wow, that's bad. What time you call? Usually for my case is that if I call after 10pm the CS know next to nuts and they claim they got 24 hours platinum service.

Email them on how bad their service is and you'll get a call from them the next day.

Any one received the conformation letter that send by the bank after cancel the cc?
I already cut my cc about 2 week, still no letter from the bank.
As far as i am concerned, only Maybank will send out the confirmation letter. All others including American Express will not.

Between 3pm to 4:30pm Tuesday, a normal working day. What gets on my nerve is, when I was put on hold and waiting, they automatically disconnect you so you have to start the whole waiting process again starting from Press 1 for English, Press 1 for Credit card types of irritating stuff. Alliance gold is probably the worst CS of any CC.

In contrast, my DA Platinum get answered by a real person within the first 3 ring. Yes, 3 ring. Not 3 minutes of futile waiting.

what's the use? You should apply the card most suitable to you. Not the most 'popular' one.
It is interesting to know which cards and banks would lose market share because of service tax. Unless you live in your own little world only, then it is not really big deal to you baby. biggrin.gif

No one can give confirmation on this, except the GOVERNMENT.

No surprise. biggrin.gif Yesterday I went to a Maybank branch and I saw a CS officer who was trying to key in the details of card cancellation forms into her computer system. The first form I noticed was dated "26-11-09".

Some banks are too ego to admit weaknesses. They just want to create a feel-good factor to lure customers. Customers nowadays are immune to this kind of news. smile.gif

You may try to call their Platinum hotline.

Some other banks also give confirmation letters, such as HLB, CIMB and Alliance based on my personal experience.

Now what would happen if I am overseas calling back to Alliance Malaysia for urgent matter? This does not look good and must remember not to bring Alliance Gold CC to overseas.

My mom canceled her CIMB Mastercard in July. She didn't get any confirmation letter from CIMB even though she did request for one. CIMB Bank did call in twice to convince her not to cancel though. Anyway, i guess they no longer send out the confirmation letter now.

hi guys,

I'm thinking of changing from my vanilla MBB Visa to a Petronas MBB Visa and also transferring the balance (around 2k) to the new card.

Thing is, I drive a truck, and only use DIESEL. would the 5x treatpoints still apply?

I think it's applicable as the TP is awarded based on the transaction done at Petronas station.

I bought Petronas engine oil from Petronas station and got 5x TP too.

It is the agent's fault obviously - maybe too eager to fulfill application quota. Always remember that in most cases (and especially if you are a new card applicant without reference credit card), you have to submit all documents that the bank wants to get approval. Short cuts would not guarantee approval.

And cc agent are not necessarily the bank's staff as most banks outsource their credit card marketing. Never be too gullible with a cc agent.

Not to jump to conclusions ... the email that you were asked to send your application to ... what was the address after the @ sign ? Would it be the official bank's domain or some web mail address ?

the email is that agent's personal mail. that agent is from alliance, i called alliance said i want to apply their cc and they sent this agent to me. i think my documents are alright, 3 months slip, everything clear, the amount of salary bank in to my account is so easy to read, i just don't understand why they would make such a funny mistake and even claimed it was me who told them...might say i have amnesia next time.
